[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 544525] Re: [RV380] dual monitor not working - M24 1P [Radeon Mobility X600]

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 557829] Re: [RS780MC] overheats computer
Here's what upstream has told me about this bug: 557829 27705 RS780 Overheats computer I suppose the new radeon pm stuff I'm working on should help. The oem's are supposed to design the system to deal with the default clocks, but it appears perhaps they have not. This also might be an acpi issue. It's likely the oem uses a acpi controlled fan for both the GPU and CPU so the fan control is out of our control. I've updated the comments. My latest pm patches are here: http://people.freedesktop.org/~agd5f/pm3/ you can either enable dynpm (where the driver changes the engine clock on the fly) or you can manually set a lower power mode. Hopefully we can get a preliminary version in for 2.6.35. As an alternative which may also be useful in other cases, I've attached a patch to disable acceleration in the drm. This should keep temperatures down as it doesn't use the engine. It may also be useful for some of the other bugs with accel/gart related issues. It uses shadowfb when X starts, so performance is pretty good. Basically boot with radeon.accel=0 to disable accel. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/557829 Title: [RS780MC] overheats computer To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-driver-ati/+bug/557829/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Picard works for me with the ppa _if_ I first move the old config away. With it, it'll start in fullscreen mode and works fine until I put it in windowed mode. Then I need to kill picard, which results in compiz crashing and needing a restart. Haven't been able to reproduce it with a clean config. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 556782] Re: [rs690m] Graphics corruption with ati x1200
UPDATE: The mods suggested above sadly did not help with Natty. I've done a total, clean install of 10.04 LTS UbuntuStudio (as I wanted the low-latency kernel for music apps). With UbuntuStudio 10.04: * Video so far works now without a hitch, straight out of the box with my ATI RV370 [Radeon X300] PCI card! * What I think is OpenGL content now works just as well as anything, and I haven't seen any rendering issues yet. Overall, video seems much more solid and stable. No further command-line mods or workarounds needed at this point in time. Not only that, but with the addition of just the Medibuntu package and alsa-firmware on top, I can even drive my EMU (Creative Labs) 0404 PCI soundcard for audio and MIDI as well! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 781353] Re: libgl1-mesa-dri: display inverted (upside-down) in startkde after natty upgrade
Ok probably I specify the problem wrong. So it is a problem with libGL version of NVidia proprietary driver and the open source one. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 195982] Re: Shift key (and caps lock) stop working when using VMWare
I have no problem with Shift or Alt, but with Ctrl, everytime when I leave the vmware player on natty (Kubuntu, no Unity or the like here). (I am using the Neo keyboard layout, so I have no CapsLock key to test.) Unfortunately, this bugreport seems to be a big mess: * People having problems with different keys, * with or without(?) varying(?) virtualization solutions, * sometimes mentioning new HID hardware (applies to me, too [1]), * sometimes mentioning graphics drivers (closed-source NVidia for me, too), * with varying software and kernel versions, * and with different proposed workarounds (calling 'setxkbmap' being the most efficient one AFAICS). And for me, I can only say that I did not have this problem in the past, but I am not sure which of the many things that changed in the meantime caused this: * upgrading from Maverick to Natty * installing the new keyboard [1] * performing daily Ubuntu software updates * updating VMWare player * /not/ using Unity ;-) but KDE (half-jokingly, after all vmware-player has an Enter Unity menu entry) * using Ctrl-Alt to release the kbd grab The latter seems to be the most likely to me; in the past, I just moved the mouse to the top to reveal and focus the menubar and then used Ctrl-F2 to change the virtual desktop, but that does not work anymore. So I had to learn about Ctrl-Alt, but now I have the problem with Ctrl stopping to work. (It's always Ctrl, but never Alt, independent of the order in which I press or release the two.) [1] Got a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic keyboard recently. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/195982 Title: Shift key (and caps lock) stop working when using VMWare To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/195982/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 805303] Re: Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_widget_style_get: assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed with the default qt4 gui
@Aurélien Gâteau: just tried with ubuntu-desktop ppa. Seems to be same behavior as before. thg icon displays in the unity sidebar - but doesn't bring up the workbench window. Then the desktop or other applications doesn't respond to mouse clicks until thg is killed. It seems the thg is receiving the mouse events - but the window isn't painting. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 675114] Re: left-handed mouse and wacom
Hello Bryce, Thanks for your inquire. Wacom pen have buttons which function just like mouse buttons, but they are arranged vertically, lower button acts like left-click, upper means right-click. I'm using a left-handed mouse with my left hand, which means left and right buttons mirrored so that I do left-clicks with forefinger and right-clicks with middle finger. Sorry for extra details here. The issue here is that Wacom pen buttons are swapped as well. Which is, as far as pen buttons are lower and upper instead of left and right, incorrect. I hope I clarified the issue. Sincerely, Dmitry. On Wed, Sep 21, 2011 at 5:29 AM, Bryce Harrington 675...@bugs.launchpad.net wrote: Hi Dmitry Yamaykin, Hmm... [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 799202] Re: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core
The Krita code that deals with tablet events seems to be this in kis_canvas_controller.cpp: - void KisCanvasController::Private::emitPointerPositionChangedSignals(QEvent *event) { if (!coordinatesConverter) return; QPoint pointerPos; QMouseEvent *mouseEvent = dynamic_castQMouseEvent*(event); if (mouseEvent) { pointerPos = mouseEvent-pos(); } else { QTabletEvent *tabletEvent = dynamic_castQTabletEvent*(event); if (tabletEvent) { pointerPos = tabletEvent-pos(); } } The obvious failure point being that if the argument is neither a mouse nor a tablet event, then pointerPos is uninitialized. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 799202] Re: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core
I had a look at the Krita sources, as pointed out by Jussi, and the problem does not come from the kis_canvas_controller code, but seems to come from kis_canvas_widget_base.cpp. There, we have the following code: void KisCanvasWidgetBase::processTabletEvent(QTabletEvent *e) { widget()-setFocus(Qt::OtherFocusReason); m_d-blockMouseEvent.start(100); const QPointF pos = e-hiResGlobalPos() - widget()-mapToGlobal(QPoint(0, 0)); m_d-toolProxy-tabletEvent(e, m_d-coordinatesConverter-widgetToDocument(pos)); // HACK e-ignore(); m_d-ignorenextMouseEventExceptRightMiddleClick = true; // HACK } My debugging shows that the problem is in the Qt hiResGlobalPos method from QTabletEvent. event-pos() seems to give correct results for the QTabletEvent, but event-hiResGlobalPos() sometimes gives strange results that cause the random lines. For exemple, I have the following values from hiResGlobalPos (the x coordinate): (...) 453.731 453.682 453.779 12.4536--- weird value 453.633 453.487 (...) So my guess is that Qt has problem getting the correct values for this hiResGlobalPos, if anybody with a better inside knowledge of Qt can have a look... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/799202 Title: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/799202/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 854049] Re: [i965gm] False GPU lockup
Hi David, Could you elaborate your problem description further? The logs that were collected simply indicate this lockup was a false alarm (so just a dupe of #828684), but perhaps you have an actual issue you're trying to report? ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/854049 Title: [i965gm] False GPU lockup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/854049/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 852918] Re: [sandybridge-m-gt2] False GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x02000004
Hi mholzapfel, Looking at your dmesg I notice that the GPU hung error is the last entry in your log, which makes me wonder if your machine hung during shutdown of your previous session? Near as I can tell this is not a dupe of bug #828684 (the general False GPU lockup), so this may be worth further investigation. Is it possible your system had hung on the prior boot and you power cycled it? Or, perhaps it hung during shutdown and you just powered it off? ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/852918 Title: [sandybridge-m-gt2] False GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x0204 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/852918/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hi Michael, Just to confirm - on your previous boot before this crash dialog appeared, did your system lockup, or did it shutdown cleanly? Looking at your dmesg, there is a GPU Hung error at the end of the log, which suggests to me your system really did crash and burn, and it looks like you had a real GPU lockup, not a false one. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 852918] Re: [sandybridge-m-gt2] False GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x02000004
Hi Bruce, I cannot confirm that. The system did not show any sign of error exept for the Report the Bug popup. I did not hang and I had not powered down or rebooted the system by hard until that time. Unfortunately I can't login any more since todays upgrades. I'm hoping that that bug be fixed with the next upgrades. Then I will keep my eyes open for this bug to happen again. Best regards Am 21.09.2011 21:16, schrieb Bryce Harrington: Hi mholzapfel, Looking at your dmesg I notice that the GPU hung error is the last entry in your log, which makes me wonder if your machine hung during shutdown of your previous session?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 608434] Re: [915gm] Dual monitor instability - reverts to low graphics mode
Seems to happen only running VirtualBox with Microsoft XP guest. I run dual monitors (Dell Latitude D820 and a Dell external monitor. Machine will crash no matter which display VirtualBox is running on. I made a similar report on Bug 577487. Workaround: Do not leave computer idle with VirtualBox display visible. Since this does not happen when running Fedora 15 (native boot), I conclude that it is a display driver problem with Ubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/608434 Title: [915gm] Dual monitor instability - reverts to low graphics mode To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/608434/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 577487] Re: display crashes leaving me in low-resolution mode
I experience a similar bug. I run VirtualBox with a Microsoft XP guest under Ubuntu 10.04 (Gnome). When I leave the machine idle, the screensaver will appear (no problem) then the monitor shuts off (as expected). Then inexplicably I get a dialogue Ubuntu is in low graphic mode. The dialogue (reported above) appears; I have to shut down and restart the entire computer to restore operation. When this happens, all active applications are dismissed (tantamount to a complete system crash). Workaround: do not leave the computer idle with the VirtualBox application visible. I originally thought this was a VirtualBox problem. This crashing does not happen under Fedora 15 (Gnome), thus I conclude it has something to do with Ubuntu display driver. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/577487 Title: display crashes leaving me in low-resolution mode To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/577487/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Public bug reported: I was attempting to test this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/781384 by installing FGLRX via jockey- gtk. After I found that there were no fixes (still), I went back to jockey and uninstalled FGLRX. However, upon rebooting, I found that Unity would not load. Applications had their title bars, however and were able to be moved. I ran a terminal and ran unity and was received various Compiz couldn't load plugin X : could not locate libgl.so.1 etc. I checked on a live USB of mine and this file doesn't exist in a standard install. The only way I could find to fix it was to reinstall the FGLRX driver to get things to work temporarily. (Which i did not want to do because of aforementioned bug).
