[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work

2011-09-25 Thread Ed S
Hi,
  jzachariou at comment #182
  adrian-wechner at comment #341

I notice you both see
  E7 report: 10 00 64
and the fix doesn't work for you. This report matches bug 755518 - please
could you add your observations to that bug?

(I think there's a Synaptics touchpad hardware version which also needs
a driver fix, affecting Dell Inspiron N5110 / 15R amongst others)

Thanks
Ed

I've just subscribed Chase because he may have lost track of this

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 805303] Re: Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_widget_style_get: assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed with the default qt4 gui

2011-09-25 Thread dmitry
Try opening a playlist window or toggle advanced preferences.
I have deleted the entire vlc configuration directory but as soon as playlist
is toggled vlc does not start.
And it it happens on 2 different computers: one with Intel card and another one
with Nvidia card, both updated to the latest qt4-x11.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 805303] Re: Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_widget_style_get: assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed with the default qt4 gui

2011-09-25 Thread pablomme
The easiest way to trigger the bug is to open a non-existing file from
the command line, e.g.,

$ vlc i-do-not-exist.avi

I can confirm that

$ LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR=0 vlc i-do-not-exist.avi

works fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 809396] Re: screen corruption on changing desktops

2011-09-25 Thread Rkimber
Having experimented with KDE plasma, I can say that KDE does not suffer
the above screen corruption. KDE is also snappier and does not suffer
from the sluggishness that appeared recently in classic Ubuntu.

The only problem I can see with KDE plasma is that when you play with
the panel settings a black rectangle sometimes appears in the top left
of the screen. This goes away when you finalise the panel settings.

The conclusion I draw from this is that the problem might not be with
xserver-xorg-video-nv (Ubuntu) per se, but was likely introduced when
Unity was introduced (assuming that xserver-xorg-video-nv wasn't changed
to accommodate Unity - I don't know how these things interact).

I don't think using Gnome shell or Unity 2D work around this issue,

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 754000] Re: 3 finger touch interferes with 3 finger click (middle click)

2011-09-25 Thread shane
@ Ian,
I didn't think you were being sarcastic as this is a very frustrating issue for
people who are used to the normal 3 finger middle-click behaviour.

But yes, neither gnome shell or unity 2d suffer from this problem (at
least they didn't last time I checked a couple of weeks ago), it is only
the compiz enabled unity 3d.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 764200] Re: wine didn't find opengl drivers after reinstalling nvidia-current

2011-09-25 Thread Zuzkins
I just want to add, that the proposed solution works for me as a
workaround with a tiny modification. Since /usr/lib32/nvidia-
current/libGL.so is a symlink on my system, I needed to substitute it
with an actual file which on my system is: /usr/lib32/nvidia-
current/libGL.so.280.13

Now it works fine.

Thank you for finding this workaround

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 463067] Re: Dell D600 doesn't see mouse button1 up events

2011-09-25 Thread Glen Ditchfield
This bug definitely _does_ still affect other releases, particularly the
LTS, which is more suitable for computers of this vintage. Oneiric B2 in
particular is unusable for me because of other bugs.

I'm not familiar with your internal work flows, but do you really want
me to file new bug reports for Lucid and Maveric, and probably Natty?
Won't they just be marked as duplicates of this bug?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 686216] Re: [arrandale] Brightness is all the way down at login screen on HP Pavilion dm4

2011-09-25 Thread shane
I am getting this problem on kubuntu 11.10 64-bit (Testing), fully up
to date as of today.

Same thing, the boot process is dimmed (one can just make out the boot
logo and login screen in a dark room) and have to turn up the brightness
at login screen.

HP Pavillion dm4-1150ea

Only had the laptop a couple of days so not messed around with it much
to try workarounds/experiments.

Any information I can provide to help?

2011-09-25 Thread pablomme
How about adding vlc to overlay-scrollbar's internal blacklist? I.e.
insert:

vlc, /*
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qt4-x11/+bug/805303 */

at line 52 of os/os-utils.c in package overlay-scrollbar. This should
have the same effect as LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR=0 (unless something is
breaking just by loading the overlay-scrollbar library, if that makes
any sense).

A task for ayatana-scrollbar should be added to this bug in any case.

2011-09-25 Thread Ubuntu QA's Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The version of update-initramfs that you likely have
installed is unable to work on a persistent usb stick. You can resolve
this issue by upgrading the version of casper on your system. This can
be done via the commands:

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install casper

Then performing the software update or installation that you were
originally trying. If this does not resolve your bug please set its
status back to New. Thanks in advance!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745112] Re: [arrandale] desktop is messed up with external monitors (x86_64)

2011-09-25 Thread Martin Pool
This bug, or one a lot like it, seems to have regressed on oneiric
(3.0.0-11). If I boot up my x201 with the external monitor connected,
it normally but not always works. When it comes back from the
screensaver, normally the external screen will be blank but switching to
vt1 and back does get the screen back (showing the unlock dialog.) If I
connect the screen after the machine has booted, both the internal and
external display are persistently black. In this case switching to vt1
does show a text login prompt, but switching back to vt7 just makes them
both black again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 754000] Re: 3 finger touch interferes with 3 finger click (middle click)

2011-09-25 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This bug is only a problem when there is multitouch geis/grail code
active, which is unity. When there is no such multitouch code active
then the normal 3 finger click support in Xorg works. So the bug does
not happen in regular Gnome (Ubuntu Classic) and KDE. If Unity-2D is
safe too then that's good news.

Note the simple workaround that Alex mentioned in the Bug Description,
so you can kind-of use middle click in Unity still.

Also note, you can a full fix for natty from ppa:vanvugt/unity
https://launchpad.net/~vanvugt/+archive/unity
That is the fix currently being discussed and refined for release.
