[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763005] Re: Compiz's Sync to Vblank makes display stutter/slow with some drivers (like fglrx)

2011-09-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
That's strange. The fix [1] is definitely in upstream compiz [2] and has
been for a couple of weeks. But it's missing from the core-0.9.6
release [3] and missing in the latest snapshots pulled into oneiric [4].

Sam, Didier, any idea why this fix didn't get pulled into core-0.9.6
or oneiric?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 863006] [NEW] Display problems after updates

2011-09-30 Thread James Pursey
Public bug reported:

Hi

After this morning's extensive updates I rebooted my computer and found
that X seems to now have crashed on this system. I have included a
photograph as an attachment. I then logged in and logged out and the
problem remained, although slightly more psychedelic this time! (2nd
photo). Just to be sure, I rebooted again and the display was exactly
the same as in the first photo. Another thing of note is that the
network icon shows there to be no Internet connection whereas there is
one (I don't know if this is a separate issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 863117] [NEW] [i945gm] Desktop does not show wallpaper correct (upside an left are wide black stripes) plus compiz crashes a lot

2011-09-30 Thread benske
Public bug reported:

First log in and the desktop wallpaper dows not look right. It seems to me,
that ubuntu whants to show the desktop in a different area. The wallpaper is
centerd at the bottom right corner an an the left side and upside are wide
black stripes. When I move a windows in this area, a lot of single windows are
shown (images of my window, that dows diasapear). There are no problem in the
windows itself, so browsing just work normaly.
The top and side panels are shown correctly and compiz is crashing a lot.

I'm affected by the same, on a Radeon system. Sounds like it's more
desktop related than the graphics driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work

2011-09-30 Thread aa-hcl
System: Dell Latitude E6520

Configuration: ALPS Touchpad (2 buttons) and Stick (3 buttons)

List of touchpad problems for Win7/linux:

1. Windows 7 64 bit, old DELL driver v7.1208.101.116

1.1 middle stick button does NOT work as scrolling
1.2 the zooming (designed as left-side scrolling) does not work well, zooming
is jumpy, it look like that the sensitivity of this tool is very low and I had
to really press hard my finger to get it at least somehow working
1.3 it is NOT possible to change the speed and sensitivity of the touchpad and
the stick independently

2. Windows 7 64 bit, latest DELL driver (A08)

2.1 same as 1.1
2.2 same as 1.2
(problem 1.3 is fixed in a new driver)

3. Linux ubuntu 11.04, all latest updates, latest Seth's driver

issues:
3.1 when changing sensitivity of the touchpad and the stick, it apparently does
not have any noticable effect (unlike in windows)
3.2 the same problem as in early windows driver: touchpad and stick speed can
not be changed independently.

4. General comments on comparison:

4.1 Both in win7 and linux the touchpad and stick are working fine, it is
possible to work.
4.2.in BOTH systems it is possible to enable/disable touchpad and stick
independently
4.3 Irritating in Windows: vertical scrolling is very bad/insensitive and it
is not possible to tune well; Works fine in linux
4.4 in linux, however it is not effectively possible to change the sensitivity
of the touchpad and stick and it would be nice to have an opportunity to change
that separately as in latest Windows driver.

Conclusions:  I personally like performance under linux (because of scrolling);
it is now possible to disable touchpad and use the stick only (the left and
right stick buttons now work; the middle stick button seems not working, but
this also does not work under windows)

MANY-MANY thanks Seth !!!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 805303] Re: Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_widget_style_get: assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed with the default qt4 gui

2011-09-30 Thread Aurélien Gâteau
My mistake.

TL;DR: Qt patch was wrong. This new version should work.

Longer explanation:
I first added a function named ubuntu_gtk_disable_overlay_scrollbars() to GTK2,
and this is what the current Qt patch uses. Later I decided it was more elegant
to instead expose two functions: ubuntu_gtk_set_use_overlay_scrollbars() and
ubuntu_gtk_get_use_overlay_scrollbars(). I correctly updated my build of Qt to
use these new functions, but forgot to refresh the patch before attaching it.

If you look for me I will be under that large brown paper bag in the
corner.

LT31 with the ATI Radeon X1270 (RS690M) graphics card. The system is
unusable due to video corruption. As a side note, this problem was
fixed in earlier releases of Ubuntu but its back now and results in a
totally unusable system.

drivers, event installing it the ATI card will not work since I do not have an
easy way to switch between the cards ... and or disable to Intel card (which is
fine most of the times, but not when running on battery!)
Is there anyway to be able to switch between the two?

As well there are side effects intalling the ATI proprietary driver:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 676166] Re: Screen corruption when resuming from suspend/hibernate

2011-09-30 Thread Damian Beltrami
I am no longer experiencing any screen corruption, either at the desktop
or the launcher. So this bug appears to be fixed for me. I also
changed to running the Nvidia Version-Current drivers (not the post-
release driver). Not sure if this is part of the fix but everything
looks good now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 858357] [NEW] external monitor turns off on laptop

2011-09-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I tried Oneiric beta 2 recently.
I use a Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook S7210 laptop with a Dell monitor connected via
DVI. First, when Ubuntu starts with the Try/Install Ubuntu window, only
laptop screen is working (the monitor screen is blank even when I don't open
the laptop lid while loading). I can only turn on the external monitor after
booting into desktop using System Settings. But when I try to turn off the
laptop screen and keep only the monitor turned on the monitor turns off too.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 850904] [NEW] Non-mirrored displays fails to align monitors, 'required virtual size does not fit available'

2011-09-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When using the gnome display config, I used to be able to have my
monitors in a non-mirrored display setup. However, now when I select the
non-mirrored variety, I get the following error:

'The selected configuration for displays could not be applied
required virtual size does not fit available size: requested=(2560, 1024),
minimum=(320,200), maximum(1280, 1280)'

This has always worked in the past, but now I can't have my dual monitor
setup side-by-side which is clearly a regression.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work

2011-09-30 Thread Seth Forshee
On Fri, Sep 30, 2011 at 02:06:03AM -, Andrew Skalski wrote:
 Hi Seth,

Thanks for your work on this. I'm trying out 0.9 right now, and ran
into a problem (Dell Precision M4600). It was working fine for about 40
minutes, until the driver (apparently) lost synchronization with the
event data. The mouse pointer began jittering slightly, without me
touching the touchpad. Putting my finger on the touchpad generated
stray click events and wild movement of the pointer.

Doing an rmmod+modprobe restored it to proper behavior. Nothing
interesting was written to the kernel log.

That's strange. I kind of doubt it truly lost sync, as there's code
there to reject packets if (byte_0 0x8f) != 0x8f or bit 7 is set in
any subsequent byte of the packet. This just doesn't make sense -- the
pointer shouldn't move at all if you aren't touching the touchpad
because the hardware shouldn't be sending any data.

If you can get this to happen again, could you please write 1 to
/sys/module/psmouse/parameters/alps_dump_packets. Let it sit for a few
seconds, then run 'dmesg -c dmesg-notouch.txt', then move your finger
around on the touchpad again and run 'dmesg -c dmesg-touch.txt'. Give
me both of the files so I can take a look.

Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 856312] Re: Cant set resolution with two monitors

2011-09-30 Thread Sebastien Bacher
it seems that your issue is that your driver limit the virtual
resolution to 1680x1680 and the settings you try to apply go over than,
could you add Xorg.0.log to the bug? The limitation seems a driver one,
g-c-c could still have a better error message but I'm not sure it can do
a lot about the limitation

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 445056] Re: [i945] Xorg freezes

2011-09-30 Thread Nick Zotov
As a newcomer to Ubnuntu, and using 11.04, I am unclear about why this
bug is thought to be fixed. I am running a 945GME chipset. The
usr/lib/dri folder does not have i945, nor does dri_alternates. By
default, Ubuntu loaded i915. With that I am getting complete freezes
form time to time with no discernible pattern.

If this bug has been fixed, I suggest that it should be available for
download in the Additional Drives.
