[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 870874] [NEW] LDAP user with automounted nfs homedir cannot login
You have been subscribed to a public bug: After installing Ubuntu (Oneiric, development branch) I followed two guides to setup LDAP authentication and automounting of home directories using autofs-ldap. This setup was working properly for older Ubuntu releases (just to be sure I also tried with a fresh, up to date 11.04 installation). The following steps were executed to setup LDAP authentication: https://help.ubuntu.com/11.04/serverguide/C/openldap-server.html (section: LDAP Authentication) These steps were executed to setup Autofs-ldap: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AutofsLDAP LDAP users properly login from the terminal (Ctrl-Alt-F1), in that case they can browse their automounted homedirs etc. When I try to login using LightDM the user seems to be logged in properly; the login widget disappears from the screen but other than that nothing is happening (the login screen background is still visible, but the login widget is gone). I still can move the mouse pointer but the user is not logged on. When taking a look at the user's .xsession- errors file there is not much to see, nothing that seems worrying to me. I can't find anything that obviously looks like an error in /var/log/*. I tried several things: - removed all files/directories starting with a . (dot) in the user's home directory - using LightDM and the default Ubuntu window manager - using LightDM with Gnome - using GDM with Gnome In all cases the same behavior was observed. Logging in with a local user works like a charm. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 870188] Re: Multiple monitors - Strange crashes
I just tried 11.04, it's also using the nouveau drivers (though without Unity, so no 3D support) and it works like a charm. Not sure though if this means it's a problem with Nouveau or with LightDM... ** Description changed: (Not sure if I chose the right package for this bug.) My dads laptop (Dell Latitude D630) is usually in a docking station, wich is connected to a big external monitor, while his laptop's screen is shut. - I booted the 11.10 daily live cd (7th of October, 2011) on my dads laptop (laptop screen shut, external monitor connected via dock) and got a BusyBox... + I booted the 11.10 (AMD64) daily live cd (7th of October, 2011) on my dads laptop (laptop screen shut, external monitor connected via dock) and got a BusyBox... I tried again, this time with the laptop screen opened as well (still connected to the external monitor through the dock). I got a mirrored screen, the chosen resolution wasn't right for either of the monitors. I disabled the laptop's screen using gnome-control-center and set the resolution right for the external monitor. I opened the Unity Dash and... everything flickered and went black. I tried again, once more with the laptop in the dock, connected with the external monitor, and the laptop's own screen shut. I got the wallpaper, I heard the login sound, then the last 2 seconds of the login sound kept repeating. None of the hardware connected to the dock (appart from the screen) seemed to work. I opened the laptop's screen, wich was empty, and tried to move the cursor using the trackpad, wich worked. However, no keyboard shutcuts worked, on neither of the keyboards, not even CTRL+ALT+F1. I held the power button once more to shut down the laptop, took the laptop out of the docking station, and booted the CD once more... It worked perfectly! It's blazing fast, stable, compiz works (wich it didn't with 11.04), ... The problem seems to be the second screen (or the driver? nouveau in this case). I'm not sure what this laptop's graphics card is, I only know it's an NVidia Quadro NVS (I think 135M). This is a really annoying problem as many people like to connect an external monitor (eventually through a dock station). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/870188 Title: Multiple monitors - Strange crashes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/870188/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 870874] Re: LDAP user with automounted nfs homedir cannot login
Probably final comment from me, I found a workaround that solves the problem for me. If you don't need QT Accessibility: Edit `/etc/X11/Xsession.d/90qt-a11y', put a `#' in front of all lines: # -*- sh -*- # Xsession.d script to set the QT_ACCESSIBILITY env variable when accessibility # is enabled. # # This file is sourced by Xsession(5), not executed. #if [ -x /usr/bin/gsettings ]; then # a11y_enabled=$(gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface toolkit-accessibility) # if $a11y_enabled = true ]; then # export QT_ACCESSIBILITY=1 # fi #fi This work around might break with updates. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/870874 Title: LDAP user with automounted nfs homedir cannot login To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/870874/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 871286] [NEW] Brightness does not stay fixed
Public bug reported: Sorry for the late reporting of the bug. I forgot about it. If I turn down the brightness and only move the mouse cursor 10 seconds later. It brightens up as if it was in a 'not being used' mode to conserve battery power and my input has no relevance to that. It can't be used in lectures for this because if it brightens (when I haven't touched it for a 10 second interval and I then do so) it obviously distracts everyone. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 871241] [NEW] No keyboard input after logging in
You have been subscribed to a public bug: After recent updates in Oneiric Beta, I lose all keyboard input after logging in. (Keyboard input works in LDM, and will work in a recovery session, but as soon as I log in to Unity or Unity 2D, the computer will not respond to any keyboard input.) I can't switch to a TTY terminal, Ctr+Alt+Backspace and Ctr+Alt+Delete don't work...no keyboard input whatsoever. If I switch to a Guest Session (using the GUI) and then switch back to my account, however, the keyboard will then work. Of course, if Unity/Compiz aren't working, there is nothing I can do but use the power button to restart the computer. Following a suggestion in an older post, I tried renaming /run/udev to /run/udev.old, and deleting all files in /run, but neither seemed to help. Apparently that problem was fixed by an update in July, but I experienced this problem for the first time in the last day or so. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- No keyboard input after logging in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/871241 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 129041] Re: xterm icon available by default
I know Opinion is confusing and all, but I hope we can agree that in one of the comments somebody proposed a solution that is now obsolete is nowhere near what it means. That said, it's not clear what the bug is here. The description refers to Ubuntu 7.10, which is long past its use-by date. If the bug still exists in 11.10 beta, please update the description with steps to reproduce the problem, and reopen the report. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 129041] Re: xterm icon available by default
** Description changed: - In the system menu there are Xterm and UXTerm icons by default on Gutsy. + In Ubuntu 11.10 desktop by default, there are three terminals in the + Dash labeled respectively as: Terminal, XTerm, and UXTerm. This is + rather confusing for users who are told to just run a terminal. XTerm + and UXTerm share a rather old, outdated icon and very few users will + prefer using them to using the standard, full-featured GNOME Terminal. - This is wrong because: - 1. There is already gnome-terminal - 2. They belong in the Accesories-menu - - Why offer 3 terminal programs in the gnome menu by default anyway? + XTerm apparently is used by Ubuntu's failsafe mode and so must be + present by default. + + My Proposed fix: + 1.Add NoDisplay=true to the end of these 2 files: + sudoedit /usr/share/applications/debian-xterm.desktop + sudoedit /usr/share/applications/debian-xterm.desktop + 2. Run sudo update-desktop-database + 3. Log out and log back in. + 4. Type term into the Dash, xterm and uxterm should not show. + 5. Close the dash and type Alt+F2, now type xterm and uxterm. The app shows with its icon. When run, the icon will show in the launcher and the Alt-Tab switcher. + + This should be a good compromise between most users who don't need the + clutter of the extra terminals and the ones who actually do want to run + xterm. + + --Jeremy Bicha ** Description changed: - In Ubuntu 11.10 desktop by default, there are three terminals in the - Dash labeled respectively as: Terminal, XTerm, and UXTerm. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 871471] [NEW] AntSpotlight screensaver causes xbuntu 11.10 beta to lock up on Averatec 3280
You have been subscribed to a public bug: This seems to be the same as Bug #455954 on the same laptop (Averatec 3280) as the previous report on earlier versions of Ubuntu. I am running xubuntu 11.10 beta updated through today. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 830949] Re: [Intel N10 Graphics] Plugging in external monitor to VGA port makes both displays corrupted with thick slanted lines
It doesn't (or shouldn't) work fine in Natty - the same limitations should apply. Or, it might work by crashing Compiz which autospawns Metacity, which doesn't have this limitation.
