[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 92599] Re: Incorrect (low/stuttering) refresh rate with NVIDIA driver

2011-10-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Ron, if the xorg.conf workaround doesn't work for you either then you're
experiencing a different bug. Please log a new one.

Please also log a separate bug for the Tux Racer corruption issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 870874] [NEW] LDAP user with automounted nfs homedir cannot login

2011-10-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After installing Ubuntu (Oneiric, development branch) I followed two
guides to setup LDAP authentication and automounting of home directories
using autofs-ldap. This setup was working properly for older Ubuntu
releases (just to be sure I also tried with a fresh, up to date 11.04
installation).

The following steps were executed to setup LDAP authentication:
https://help.ubuntu.com/11.04/serverguide/C/openldap-server.html (section: LDAP
Authentication)

These steps were executed to setup Autofs-ldap:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AutofsLDAP

LDAP users properly login from the terminal (Ctrl-Alt-F1), in that case
they can browse their automounted homedirs etc.

When I try to login using LightDM the user seems to be logged in
properly; the login widget disappears from the screen but other than
that nothing is happening (the login screen background is still visible,
but the login widget is gone). I still can move the mouse pointer but
the user is not logged on. When taking a look at the user's .xsession-
errors file there is not much to see, nothing that seems worrying to me.
I can't find anything that obviously looks like an error in /var/log/*.

I tried several things:
- removed all files/directories starting with a . (dot) in the user's home
directory
- using LightDM and the default Ubuntu window manager
- using LightDM with Gnome
- using GDM with Gnome

In all cases the same behavior was observed.
Logging in with a local user works like a charm.

This is what /var/log/lightdm/lightdm.log says:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 870188] Re: Multiple monitors - Strange crashes

2011-10-09 Thread RobinJ
I just tried 11.04, it's also using the nouveau drivers (though without Unity,
so no 3D support) and it works like a charm.
Not sure though if this means it's a problem with Nouveau or with LightDM...

** Description changed:

(Not sure if I chose the right package for this bug.)

My dads laptop (Dell Latitude D630) is usually in a docking station, wich is
connected to a big external monitor, while his laptop's screen is shut.
- I booted the 11.10 daily live cd (7th of October, 2011) on my dads laptop
(laptop screen shut, external monitor connected via dock) and got a BusyBox...
+ I booted the 11.10 (AMD64) daily live cd (7th of October, 2011) on my dads
laptop (laptop screen shut, external monitor connected via dock) and got a
BusyBox...
I tried again, this time with the laptop screen opened as well (still
connected to the external monitor through the dock). I got a mirrored screen,
the chosen resolution wasn't right for either of the monitors. I disabled the
laptop's screen using gnome-control-center and set the resolution right for the
external monitor. I opened the Unity Dash and... everything flickered and went
black.
I tried again, once more with the laptop in the dock, connected with the
external monitor, and the laptop's own screen shut. I got the wallpaper, I
heard the login sound, then the last 2 seconds of the login sound kept
repeating. None of the hardware connected to the dock (appart from the screen)
seemed to work. I opened the laptop's screen, wich was empty, and tried to move
the cursor using the trackpad, wich worked. However, no keyboard shutcuts
worked, on neither of the keyboards, not even CTRL+ALT+F1.
I held the power button once more to shut down the laptop, took the laptop
out of the docking station, and booted the CD once more... It worked perfectly!
It's blazing fast, stable, compiz works (wich it didn't with 11.04), ...
The problem seems to be the second screen (or the driver? nouveau in this
case). I'm not sure what this laptop's graphics card is, I only know it's an
NVidia Quadro NVS (I think 135M).
This is a really annoying problem as many people like to connect an external
monitor (eventually through a dock station).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 870874] Re: LDAP user with automounted nfs homedir cannot login

2011-10-09 Thread Heiko Harders
Probably final comment from me, I found a workaround that solves the problem
for me.
If you don't need QT Accessibility:

Edit `/etc/X11/Xsession.d/90qt-a11y', put a `#' in front of all lines:

# -*- sh -*-
# Xsession.d script to set the QT_ACCESSIBILITY env variable when accessibility
# is enabled.
#
# This file is sourced by Xsession(5), not executed.

#if [ -x /usr/bin/gsettings ]; then
# a11y_enabled=$(gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface
toolkit-accessibility)
#   if $a11y_enabled = true ]; then
# export QT_ACCESSIBILITY=1
# fi
#fi

This work around might break with updates.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 868684] Re: Xorg freeze

The problem occurs for me while I wasn't using my computer. Gnome put the
monitor into standby.
After moving my mouse the screen came back but it was like frozen. I could
click on a launcher but it showed no reaction.
Then I switched to tty1 and back to graphical desktop and the screen was alive
again.

But everything was slow, If I take a look at Xorg.0.log I see the
following messages.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 586243] Re: Xorg freeze: Failed to schedule IB Radeon X1200

2011-10-09 Thread Justin
I've been getting this same issue starting about a week ago (~Oct. 1
2011) on Ubuntu 11.04 with Unity. I can't remember it occurring any
other time except when I have Gnome Terminal maximized (which has often
been the case recently), and it seems to happen about every few hours.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 566433] Re: psb driver not available on Lucid. Uses -vesa at max 1024x768 resolution

2011-10-09 Thread Sebastien Andre
Following duplicate https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/814583

The EMGD driver from http://ppa.launchpad.net/gma500/emgd/ubuntu solved
the problem for me (Dell mini 1010 with Poulsbo on Natty).

The resolution is now 1366x768 and it's even possible to play full
screen videos with totem.

Only the adobe flash plugin is still slow.

Don't know if it also works on Acer Aspire One.

This also affects 11.04 and 11.10, so maybe its better to remove the
10.04 from the subject, as this is still a current and annoying bug

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 871286] [NEW] Brightness does not stay fixed

2011-10-09 Thread Sketches
Public bug reported:

Sorry for the late reporting of the bug. I forgot about it.

If I turn down the brightness and only move the mouse cursor 10 seconds
later. It brightens up as if it was in a 'not being used' mode to
conserve battery power and my input has no relevance to that.

It can't be used in lectures for this because if it brightens (when I
haven't touched it for a 10 second interval and I then do so) it
obviously distracts everyone.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 871241] [NEW] No keyboard input after logging in

2011-10-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After recent updates in Oneiric Beta, I lose all keyboard input after
logging in. (Keyboard input works in LDM, and will work in a recovery
session, but as soon as I log in to Unity or Unity 2D, the computer will
not respond to any keyboard input.) I can't switch to a TTY terminal,
Ctr+Alt+Backspace and Ctr+Alt+Delete don't work...no keyboard input
whatsoever. If I switch to a Guest Session (using the GUI) and then
switch back to my account, however, the keyboard will then work. Of
course, if Unity/Compiz aren't working, there is nothing I can do but
use the power button to restart the computer.

Following a suggestion in an older post, I tried renaming /run/udev to
/run/udev.old, and deleting all files in /run, but neither seemed to
help. Apparently that problem was fixed by an update in July, but I
experienced this problem for the first time in the last day or so.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 870707] Re: Cant find xorg.conf in /etc/X11/

2011-10-09 Thread Dave Gilbert
Hi Jasper,
By default Ubuntu doesn't have an xorg.conf - it works stuff out
automagically. You can create one and add sections in that you need. There is
also /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d which is a directory where you can add
fractions of config file.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 871241] Re: No keyboard input after logging in

2011-10-09 Thread James M. Roche
Oops, my mistake. I made a script to disable my touchpad and set it run
on startup:

xinput set-prop 11 Device Enabled 0

But the id for my touchpad keeps changing, I guess based on whether I
have my USB mouse plugged in or not, making 11 the id for my keyboard
instead of my touchpad.

2011-10-09 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
I know Opinion is confusing and all, but I hope we can agree that in
one of the comments somebody proposed a solution that is now obsolete
is nowhere near what it means.

That said, it's not clear what the bug is here. The description refers
to Ubuntu 7.10, which is long past its use-by date. If the bug still
exists in 11.10 beta, please update the description with steps to
reproduce the problem, and reopen the report. Thanks.

essentially, the bug is that someone decided to prevent xterm from

switch. The KVM switch is a Zonet KVM3324, 4 port USB KVM Switch. I have

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 129041] Re: xterm icon available by default

2011-10-09 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

- In the system menu there are Xterm and UXTerm icons by default on Gutsy.
+ In Ubuntu 11.10 desktop by default, there are three terminals in the
+ Dash labeled respectively as: Terminal, XTerm, and UXTerm. This is
+ rather confusing for users who are told to just run a terminal. XTerm
+ and UXTerm share a rather old, outdated icon and very few users will
+ prefer using them to using the standard, full-featured GNOME Terminal.

- This is wrong because:
- 1. There is already gnome-terminal
- 2. They belong in the Accesories-menu
-
- Why offer 3 terminal programs in the gnome menu by default anyway?
+ XTerm apparently is used by Ubuntu's failsafe mode and so must be
+ present by default.
+
+ My Proposed fix:
+ 1.Add NoDisplay=true to the end of these 2 files:
+ sudoedit /usr/share/applications/debian-xterm.desktop
+ sudoedit /usr/share/applications/debian-xterm.desktop
+ 2. Run sudo update-desktop-database
+ 3. Log out and log back in.
+ 4. Type term into the Dash, xterm and uxterm should not show.
+ 5. Close the dash and type Alt+F2, now type xterm and uxterm. The app
shows with its icon. When run, the icon will show in the launcher and the
Alt-Tab switcher.
+
+ This should be a good compromise between most users who don't need the
+ clutter of the extra terminals and the ones who actually do want to run
+ xterm.

UXTerm share a rather old, outdated icon and very few users will prefer
using them to using the standard, full-featured GNOME Terminal.

XTerm apparently is used by Ubuntu's failsafe mode and so must be
  present by default.

  My Proposed fix:
1.Add NoDisplay=true to the end of these 2 files:
    sudoedit /usr/share/applications/debian-xterm.desktop
    sudoedit /usr/share/applications/debian-xterm.desktop
  2. Run sudo update-desktop-database
  3. Log out and log back in.
  4. Type term into the Dash, xterm and uxterm should not show.
  5. Close the dash and type Alt+F2, now type xterm and uxterm. The app
shows with its icon. When run, the icon will show in the launcher and the
Alt-Tab switcher.

This should be a good compromise between most users who don't need the
clutter of the extra terminals and the ones who actually do want to run
- xterm.
+ xterm. Also xterm has been hidden by default for many releases now and I
+ personally consider their presence now a UI regression, not an
+ improvement.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 700646] Re: nVIDIA 425M (with Optimus) is not detected

2011-10-09 Thread Lekensteyn
There is no match. If you're interested, I'm working on an ACPI tables database
(mainly for Bumblebee) which will allow users to submit their tables. This does
not include dynamic tables though, just the tables retrieved using acpidump.
https://github.com/Bumblebee-Project/acpi-www
Bumblebee itself: https://github.com/Bumblebee-Project/Bumblebee (do not use
the one from MrMEEE, that is outdated and very buggy (both in (un)installation
and PM)

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This seems to be the same as Bug #455954 on the same laptop (Averatec
3280) as the previous report on earlier versions of Ubuntu. I am running
xubuntu 11.10 beta updated through today.

Once the system locked up, after selecting the AntSpotlight screensaver,
I had to power off, reboot, enter a text console, and remove the
xscreensaver-gl package, in order to disable this screensaver. I re-
installed xscreensaver-gl in order to create this report with ubuntu-
bug. I am currently running xscreensaver but not gnome-screensaver.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 830949] Re: [Intel N10 Graphics] Plugging in external monitor to VGA port makes both displays corrupted with thick slanted lines

2011-10-09 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
It doesn't (or shouldn't) work fine in Natty - the same limitations
should apply. Or, it might work by crashing Compiz which autospawns
Metacity, which doesn't have this limitation.

Unity2d will work fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 871344] [NEW] Jockey cannot install FGLRX (AMD Graphics Driver)

2011-10-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After installing the latest build of Oneric and updating my system, I am
unable to install the FGLRX driver through jockey. It simply tells me:

Sorry, installation of this driver failed.
Please have a look at the log file for details: /var/log/jockey.log

Because there are two separate drivers, there are two error sections in
my jockey.log. Please find it attached.

Other relevant information:
Using a mostly clean system. I copied my home directory over from 10.10.
Fully updated to the latest program versions residing on the standard
repositories.
My video card is an AMD Radeon 6670 HD.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 871344] Re: Jockey cannot install FGLRX (AMD Graphics Driver)

2011-10-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It's likely this failure to install is caused by a DKMS build failure.
Could you please find the make.log file using this command in a
terminal?:

find /var/lib/dkms/fglrx -name make.log

Then please attach the file to this bug and change the status back to
New. Thanks in advance...
