[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 871628] [NEW] Brightness doesn't work correctly on iMac5, 1

2011-10-10 Thread zenitraM
Public bug reported:

The brightness slider on an iMac5,1 doesn't work correctly, that is,
when moved it flickers through higher and lower brightness levels, some
of then even turning the screen off while the slider is on the higher
values.

Also, when the screen sleeps the brightness goes off and the screen
doesn't turn on again when I move the mouse, even though the system
still works (is accessible via VNC).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 854967] Re: boot to rescue mode in Oneiric

2011-10-10 Thread Alberto Milone
Hi Steve, sorry for my late reply (I was at a sprint). I agree with your
conclusions but I'd like to partially revert your changes.

You removed a feature which allowed packagers to blacklist single card
ids to prevent them from using the boot splash in case of nasty
interactions with the NVIDIA driver.

While the result is the same (i.e. the framebuffer is on by default), I
restored the feature by putting back the relevant slave link which would
simply point to a blacklist file that only shows how to disable nvidia
cards (it's all commented out).

** Patch added: 0001-Restore-slave-link-to-grub-gfxpayload-file.patch

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer-updates/+bug/854967/+attachment/2534427/+files/0001-Restore-slave-link-to-grub-gfxpayload-file.patch

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 871665] [NEW] Mouse pointer does not move correctly from a screen to another in a dual-head config - jumps too far

2011-10-10 Thread Heikki Hannikainen
Public bug reported:

I have two displays on my Ubuntu 10.04 LTS system, ATI Radeon RV620 LE,
configured as individual screens (no xinerama). One is new and wide-
screen, 1920x1200, and the other is older, running in 1600x1200.

When I move the mouse cursor over the right edge of the left (1920x1200)
screen, it appears on the right screen (1600x1200), but not at it's left
edge, but at quite exactly 320 pixels (1920-1600!) away from the left
edge. The same happens when I move the cursor back to the left screen -
the cursor appears 320 pixels away from it's right edge. Here's a little
video which shows the effect:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luk00_3XTpU

The offset is quite exactly 320 pixels (I verified by creating a 320px
wide image in gimp and using it as a scale in 1:1 mode).

I am not sure which package I should point to, xorg, xserver-xorg-video-
ati, or compiz. The problem appeared when I last upgraded to a new
Ubuntu release, it used to work fine before that.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 871683] [NEW] Random crash, displaying single flashing window

2011-10-10 Thread Connor Wood
Public bug reported:

Every so often (intermittent, random, and long intervals between), X
will crash, giving a lone window, in the middle of the screen, about the
size of a standard dialog box (don't know the exact dimensions), which
is flashing. That is to say, the window repeatedly closes and opens
again, several times a second. The desktop background appears untouched,
however the only fix I have found is to go into another TTY, and
manually kill the X server from the command line, and restart. Note that
this must start in another TTY (or does for me anyway), as the old TTY
is now displaying status info.

I am unsure how to replicate this bug, as I had only just booted, and
was in the process of starting Chromium, as I normally do, when it
happened.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 870813] [NEW] Failure to detect monitor and set correct resolution

2011-10-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The Sharp 19 analogue monitor is connected to Intel sandy-bridge
graphics using DVI-I. It is detected as Unknown and the maximum
resolution is 1024x768. The same monitor connected using D-Sub to a
different PC (with Intel graphics) is detected correctly under 10.04,
10.10, 11.04 and 11.10. A Liyama 19 monitor is correctly detected on
this second PC using 10.04, and is Unknown under 11.04. However, the
correct 1280x1024 resolution is set. The problem appears to be
associated with either the sandy-bridge graphics and/or the need to a
DVI-I connector, as the motherboard has no D-Sub connector.

2011-10-10 Thread John Pye
FWIW there is a thread that points to this bug here:

Quite a few Lenovo users reporting the problem. I have the problem with
a Lenovo X1, but with Calc, not Impress. Presume it's still the same
though.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 792183] Re: split screen, small, reflections of desktop on screen

2011-10-10 Thread Dmitri Bachtin
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this issue
does not affect gnome-system-monitor, but seems to be a display issue.
I'm reassigning this report for the package xorg-server.

Please run the command 'apport-collect 792183' which will attach
necessary information for debugging this as an Xorg problem. Thanks in
advance.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 816075] Re: X crashes when Impress antialiasing on

2011-10-10 Thread Mario S.
Hi,
as far as I can guess this, this is not a Lenovo issue, but a problem of the
implementation of the graphic drivers. (i am SM666AT in the above mentioned
ubuntuforum-thread) My PC is a HP Elitebook and uses the Intel(R) Sandybridge
drivers, that are also used in the Lenovos. And as soon as I turn of
anti-aliasing in Libreoffice, I experience no more freezes ...

thanx,

I'd like to let you guys know that I am experiencing the same bug. It
doesn't *always* crash when pressing the '2' key on the alphanumeric
part of my keyboard, nor does it *always* crash when pressing enter, but
it does so often enough (I've had it happen 50 times already today) that
it makes me want to scream. In fact, is currently getting in my way of
getting work done, something my employee certainly won't appreciate.

I'm running Lubuntu 11.04. This behavior started today (I've been
running this setup for a few weeks now).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 700646] Re: nVIDIA 425M (with Optimus) is not detected

2011-10-10 Thread madbiologist
Excellent! You may wish to consider collaborating with Ben Skeggs - see
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/nouveau/2011-October/009368.html

I presume that where he says If this isn't present he means If this
is present.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 798509] Re: pressing 2 or Enter terminates X server on live CD

2011-10-10 Thread Eliah Kagan
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 802271 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/802271

@Richard Stellingwerff
This bug is a duplicate of bug 802271, so you should post there instead. Your
post here will likely be unseen, and ignored to the extent to which it is seen.
It is strange that you are getting this on Natty, as this bug was specific to
Oneiric (and was also fixed), so it might turn out to be a subtly different
bug, but posting in bug 802271 is a good first step. I recommend against
changing bug 802271's status without consulting others first (i.e., do not
reopen that bug), because your issue may be more properly handled in a separate
bug report. Hopefully you'll be advised by people who know best, after posting
in bug 802271.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 871809] [NEW] MacBook: Backlight doesn't turn on at (or after) unlock screen

2011-10-10 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Public bug reported:

MacBook early 2008 model, Intel® 965GM x86/MMX/SSE2

Problem occurs with: Ubuntu 11.10 beta
Does not occur with: Ubuntu 11.04, Ubuntu 10.10, Ubuntu 10.04, etc

1. Choose “Lock Screen”.
2. Wait for the backlight to turn off.
3. Press a key or touch a pointing device.
4. Press one of the brightness keys on the keyboard.
5. Enter your password at the unlock screen.
6. Press one of the brightness keys on the keyboard.

What happens:
3. The unlock screen appears, but it is almost invisible, because the backlight
has not turned back on.
4. The backlight still does not turn on.
5. The backlight still does not turn on.
6. When you choose to increase/decrease the brightness, the backlight finally
turns on.

What should happen:
3. The backlight turns on immediately.

This looks similar to bug 580225, except that that bug was occurring
with Ubuntu 10.04, whereas this bug was not.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 850923] Re: Two-finger scrolling is off by default

2011-10-10 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Not only has edge scrolling never been the default on Mac OS, it hasn't
even been an option. It wouldn't really even make sense on the Magic
Trackpad, firstly because it's so wide, and secondly because your finger
would constantly be at risk of falling off the edge onto the desk.

I'm not an expert on Windows trackpads. It may well be that they are so
much smaller that edge scrolling makes more sense there.

This problem was reported again in bug 861446 for MacBooks specifically.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 591954] Re: Touchpad aspect ratio changes with TwinView

2011-10-10 Thread gpothier
I'm observing this problem on a Dell Vostro V13 with Oneiric.
The comments of bug #327428 mention that there is an option configurable
through xinput that should disable the scaling, but either it doesn't work or I
am not using xinput properly:
gpothier@tadzim:adkintun$ xinput --list-props 12 |grep 'Resolution Detect'
Synaptics Resolution Detect (305): 1
gpothier@tadzim:adkintun$ xinput --set-prop 12 305 0
gpothier@tadzim:adkintun$ xinput --list-props 12 |grep 'Resolution Detect'
Synaptics Resolution Detect (305): 0

Where device 12 is my touchpad:

gpothier@tadzim:adkintun$ xinput --list |grep Touch
⎜ ↳ SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPadid=12 [slave pointer (2)]

So it does look like I successfully disabled the option, but I cannot
see any change in touchpad behavior (horizontal sensitivity is still
about 3 times as much as vertical sensitivity).

2011-10-10 Thread Peter Belew
For comparison, I just booted an 11.04 'natty' live CD and tried the
AntSpotlight screensaver on that. The same thing happens - the system
locks up a few seconds after the ant rotates around 60 degrees. I then
installed apt-show-versions to see what versions of xscreensaver-gl and
the openchrome display driver are installed from the 11.04 CD:

root@ubuntu:~# apt-show-versions xscreensaver-gl
xscreensaver-gl/natty uptodate 5.12-0ubuntu3
root@ubuntu:~# apt-show-versions | grep openchrome
xserver-xorg-video-openchrome/natty uptodate 1:0.2.904+svn916-1build1

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 872107] [NEW] nvidia-xconfig creates an unusable xorg.conf file

2011-10-10 Thread Laurence Nagel
Public bug reported:

This has got to be a stupid question. I'm installing Ubuntu 11.04 on a
new computer that has a Dell 19 monitor plugged into the motherboard
and a Dell 22 monitor plugged into an nVidia Quadro 600 video card. I
cannot get both monitors to work at the same time. If both monitors are
plugged in, only the 19 monitor works. If I unplug the 19 monitor,
then the 22 monitor works. Both monitors work fine with Windows 7
(dual boot). What am I doing wrong???

** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-nv (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 872107] Re: nvidia-xconfig creates an unusable xorg.conf file

2011-10-10 Thread Laurence Nagel
When I attempt to change NVIDIA options using nvidia-settings, I get the
message You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit
your configuration file (Just run 'nvidia-xconfig' as root) and restart
the X-server. When I do this, nvidia-xconfig creates a xorg.conf file
which causes the computer to hang on reboot and I have to logon under
safe mode and remove the offending xorg.conf file to get the computer to
boot. The contents of the xorg.conf file created by nvidia-xconfig are:

# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig
# nvidia-xconfig: version 270.41.06

I have been unable to determine, given my limited knowledge of
xorg.conf, what is wrong here.
