[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 710762] Re: Middle mouse button no longer works

2011-10-20 Thread Jimmy Guo
I have a Microsoft PS/2 mouse with track wheel. After upgrading from
Ubuntu 9.10 to Lubuntu 11.10, I had to apply the evdev Emulate3Buttons
change to /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/ to get the middle button back.

There you go ... sameo sameo for Oneiric. Strongly agree with a
substantial fix, aka not in the form of release notes. I don't read
release notes, but just out of curiosity, it's only in the 11.04 release
notes, not 11.10. It may seem old news to maintainers but users do not
follow release notes, esp. older releases'. But I guess this brings up
another request: verify and carry over known issues from past releases
if they are still relevant!

2011-10-20 Thread Snake Plissken
I updated but I still can not enable desktop effects.
My desktop machine is equipped with a Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L motherboard and it
has a VGA output.
I have removed the graphics card (ATI Radeon HD5550) so I have not tested that.

Then I try to enable desktop effects it searches for drivers and the
screen gets scrambled.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 877905] Re: [lucid] glx regression after upgrading xorg-server packages to versions in USN-1232-1

2011-10-20 Thread Pertti Seppänen
I am facing this issue on Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick, too. Qt 4.7.0 running on
Ubuntu 10.10 is no more able to find OpenGL after the X server update to
1.9.0-0ubuntu7.5, which I did on Oct 19, 2011. I reported a bug on Qt, too,
but would like to open discussion if there are other SW that are affected by
the X server update on other versions of Ubuntu but 10.04.
Because the issue was targeted only to 10.04 Lucid and fixes done only to it I
do not see any easy way out of the situation.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 676166] Re: Unity Launcher corruption when resuming from suspend/hibernate

2011-10-20 Thread Jancis
I solved this by switching to open source driver. Have to use DVI now, VGA
doesn't work, but at least it's WAY easier to switch screens using ubuntu
built-in switcher (it happens automatically!).
Actually, screen switching is why I don't like nvidia driver. It's complicated
and requires to open configurator manually :(

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 876762] Re: KDE crashes at login with desktop effects enabled

2011-10-20 Thread Sergio Callegari
To #6 (though I guess that Boban's answer was probably enough)

edit /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc

look for

# Restart instead of resetting the local X-server after session exit.
# Use it if the server leaks memory etc.
# Default is false
#TerminateServer=true

should be in the Core config for local displays
[X-:*-Core] section.

Uncomment the TerminateServer=true option. If you do not have the
prefilled option commented, just add it in the section above.

Hope this helps

2011-10-20 Thread George DeKatt
Thanks Marc. Downgraded by installing the debs. Rebooted Didn't not help.
Then I reinstalled the Nvidia drivers again which rebuilds the kernel modules
and the issue is resolved.
I don't know which did the trick. Perhaps I should try updating x via Update
Manager again and then reinstalling the Nvidia drivers?

The Nvidia driver was downloaded from Nvidia's website.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 877905] Re: [lucid] glx regression after upgrading xorg-server packages to versions in USN-1232-1

2011-10-20 Thread Pertti Seppänen
@Marc: I downloaded versions ...7.3 from the web page you mentioned in
your message #55. When trying to install them Ubuntu claims that there
already are newer versions installed and refuses to continue. When using
Synaptic for removing the ...7.5 versions the tool picks up that long a
list of other xserver packages to be removed that I don't dare to go on.

Is there any elegant way to get ...7.3 versions installed without
risking too much?

Regards,
Pertti - not any expert in Ubuntu

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 873482] Re: elantech: Touchpad always reports 3 finger tap as 1 finger tap

2011-10-20 Thread bwat47
Patch seems to work sort of here (asus u52f). For some reason it seems
to be really finicky detecting 3 fingers, but I don't know if thats due
to your patch or something else though. Other distros detected 3 fine.
When I use 4 fingers it works fine though (which is still a big
usability improvement lol)

Works for me, Lucid 10.04, Intel onboard graphics card (see above for
details).

Thanks for the work guys, kind of ironic that the only version affected
was the latest LTS!

Thank you again...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 649809] Re: the session settings manager can try starting before the login screen one exits

2011-10-20 Thread tekstr1der
Logged in today to see the good 'ol gnome icon set appear on unity.

This is a fully u-t-d Natty 11.04 with Unity only. This bug is sporadic
and infrequent for me, but definitely exists.

Is there any chance of a fix for Natty? Or, are we just moving on ahead
now with gnome 3 only?

2011-10-20 Thread Pertti Seppänen
Thanks George, your guidance 'sudo dpkg -i package.deb' worked.
But unfortunately replacing version 2:1.9.0-0ubuntu7.5 with 2:1.9.0-0ubuntu7.3
did not make my Qt working. It still does not find OpenGL.
Is there any log somewhere in Ubuntu where I could check what version of X
server I had when it worked? If found I possibly could dig it out and install
back.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 838577] Re: GNOME Shell display problems with FGLRX

2011-10-20 Thread Didier Fort
Same issue here. Here is my context:

$ fglrxinfo
display: :0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: AMD Radeon HD 6350
OpenGL version string: 4.1.11005 Compatibility Profile Context

$ lspci| grep -i radeon
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Cedar PRO [Radeon HD

$ sudo aptitude show fglrx
Package: fglrx
New: yes
State: installed
Automatically installed: no
Version: 2:8.881-0ubuntu4
Priority: extra
Section: restricted/misc

I have tried more than one suggestion and I had multiple failures and
reboots.

Please note the discrepancy between the Radeon version number.

Thanks.

2011-10-20 Thread Ahmed Shams
Hello Lilleman,
Thank you for reporting this bug and help making Ubuntu better. Please try to
do the following workaround and see if it fixes it temporarily:
Please put your laptop to sleep, then while your Touchpad is stopped please,
1. Open Terminal by pressing Ctrl+Alt+T
2. Copy the following command:
sudo rmmod psmouse sudo modprobe psmouse
3. Paste it into Terminal by pressing Ctrl+Shift+V, and press Enter.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 879092] [NEW] cannot switch users if 3 or more users are logged in

2011-10-20 Thread Nicolas Avrutin
Public bug reported:

When three (or presumably more) users (local or LDAP) are logged in,
locking the screen and pressing the Switch User button on the unlock
screen dialog causes the screen to flash several times (similar to what
occurs when changing monitor resolution), then going blank. Moving the
mouse or pressing keys causes the switch user dialog to come up again
for the same user, making it impossible to switch users. This is
consistently reproducible. Sometimes, instead of dropping back to the
switch user dialog, it drops to a blank screen with a blinking cursor,
or a blank screen with the message mountall: Disconnnected from
Plymouth.

We tried updating one workstation to Oneiric. The issue was still
present, except it would always drop down to the blank screen, instead
of giving you the same switch user dialog. This would suggest that it
tries to switch to the next tty to start a new X session but is unable
to start the new X session.

We have 12 workstations with ATI cards (model is in the lspci output)
and 6 with Nvidia cards using the same image. This issue only occurs on
(all) the workstations with the ATI cards, not the ones with Nvidia
cards.

Downloading the driver from ATI's website and installing it manually
made no difference.

fglrxinfo output is below. Other logs should be attached automatically.

fglrxinfo output:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 560433] Re: [clarkdale] Xorg freeze

2011-10-20 Thread Marcello Romani
Seems the 3d screensaver was to blame. After configuring the system to
not launch any screensaver but just put the monitor to sleep the system
didn't show the problem anymore.

My guess is there is a bug in the video driver that shows when the 3d
section of the video card is used.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 838577] Re: GNOME Shell display problems with FGLRX

2011-10-20 Thread Didier Fort
Thanks.

I tried that:
sudo ./ati-driver-installer-11-9-x86.x86_64.run

But I get this:
[Error]A previous installation of fglrx driver detected to be loaded.
User must uninstall existing fglrx driver
or run install with force option.
Forcing the installation is not recommended.

I also tried to run:
sudo aptitude purge fglrx

And then run the latest ATI install, but it always complains about fglrx
still being installed.
