[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 813343] Re: nvidia drivers, second monitor covered by black
HI Axel, Tried unity 2d, still get the Could not apply the stored configuration for monitors error on boot with missing theme, then as before I click OK and then the desktop is draw with correct theme yet nautilus is still missing theme. Also not sure how unity 2d acts on a dual screen, never tried before. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 874237] Re: Emulate3Buttons option does not work anymore to enable emulation of a middle button
It turns out that this is a gnome 3 configuration problem. [quote from http://who-t.blogspot.com/2011/04/gnome-30-middle-mouse- button-emulation.html ] GNOME 3.0 has a gsettings key to also trigger this behaviour on a per- user basis (see bug 633863). The default value is off (false). Settings applied from the desktop environment overwrite xorg.conf(.d) settings, so to get middle button emulation in GNOME simply toggle the gsettings key and don't worry about xorg.conf(.d). The command to toggle the key is: $ gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.peripherals.mouse \ middle-button-enabled true [/quote] -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/874237 Title: Emulate3Buttons option does not work anymore to enable emulation of a middle button To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-evdev/+bug/874237/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 813343] Re: nvidia drivers, second monitor covered by black
Hi psypher, as said in #30 I don't write to the xorg-file wiht nvidia settings (what one might do), only use a minimal. In very very old days, some monitors need to have appropriate modelines: see https://wiki.blue-it.org/Xserver_Issues#Modline_generator @#35: Did you install the package unity-desktop. Probably there are some packages missing? What theme is missing?: Lightdm or nautilus? Did you use any ppa's in former times? Or any other window-managers like emerald or so? Expo I cannot try in the moment, because I am on xfce4 in the moment - sorry (and I would open another bug on this). @#36: other bug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 880882] [NEW] X starts with garbled screen, restarting X from cli fixes
Public bug reported: I am running an Asus eeePC 1101HA with a (dreaded) Poulsbo video card. I upgraded from Natty to Oneric, and X wouldn't start anymore. Under Natty I ran X with fbdev driver since the default driver would break suspend/resume. I had applied the fix from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportComponentsVideoCardsPoulsboAlternatives to get 1366x768 resolution. After upgrading and trying all kinds of things to fix this, the situation is as follows: - Apparently, under kernel 3.0.0.12, the 'correct' way to run X is with fbdev, which is accellerated by a kernel module of either 'poulsbo' or 'psb_gfx'. I have re-enabled the fix from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportComponentsVideoCardsPoulsboAlternatives to get native resulution, under either vesa or fbdev. (If there is some other driver comination I should try, please tell me.) Without this workaround I can only get 640x480 resolution. - I can start and run under the VESA driver, everything works fine but screen updates in video are sloow. - I can run the system with the fbdev driver enabled. If I do this X starts up with a garbled screen. How it is garbled depends on the exact settings I'm using, but one common way is that each row of pixels is shifted a dozen pixels or so compared to the row above it. I have tried this last fbdev setup with several settings: - I have tried blacklisting 'poulsbo' and/or 'psb_gfx' in all four combinations in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf. If poulsbo gets loaded, X starts up with a garbled screen, but if I log into a console and kill X it restarts correctly. If poulsbo is blacklisted, X is garbled and stays garbled if I kill it. Disabling psb_gfx did not have any visible results. - I have played a bit with the GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX variable in /etc/default/grub. Different settings result in different ways the screen gets garbled, but otherwise there's no difference. Some settings of this variable cause even the text console to be garbled. I have also tried starting the system with the 2.6.38 kernel, which was the default before the upgrade, but to no avail. I suspect the problem is with the video mode transition from GRUB to X which somehow fails, while the transition to/from textmode works. (note: after startup, switching to a text console and back to X without restarting X does not fix the problem) I tried running a fresh Oneric from live usb, but it resulted in bug #880580. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 880882] Re: X starts with garbled screen, restarting X from cli fixes
Additional info: I was not entirely correct about the poulsbo/psb_gfx blacklisting combinations. Poulsbo blacklisted and psb_gfx enabled results in a garbled screen that isn't even fixed by restarting X. All other combinations result in a garbled X that can be fixed by restarting X. There is a visible speed difference from enabling poulsbo. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 873482] Re: elantech: Touchpad always reports 3 finger tap as 1 finger tap
bwat47: I've noticed the same thing, but I'm not certain it is related to the xorg driver. Last time it happened, I was looking at it in xev, and getting weird data. Certain taps would send a flood of events with weird button values between 4 and 6. I killed the x server and input- events was reporting strange values on triple tap as well (usually something like a double tap, triple tap followed by 5 or 7 position updates all followed by syns and then the double/triple release). Restarting the x server didn't help, which is what makes me think it isn't related. If I manage to reproduce it (happened after a suspend here too), I'll attach the logs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/873482 Title: elantech: Touchpad always reports 3 finger tap as 1 finger tap To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/873482/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 881004] Re: windows moving is too slow on fglrx
maybe it has some importance : with ubuntu 11.04 i was using gnome classic session and completely removed unity but unfortunately it seems to be much more difficult and and less usable in 11.10, so i reinstalled all and stayed with default unity session if the advice is to switch to gnome and try to tweak it until usable i'm gonna merrily jump on this solution -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/881004 Title: windows moving is too slow on fglrx To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/881004/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 688403] Re: Xinerama secondary screen still exists when unplugging cable
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected oneiric running-unity ubuntu ** Description changed: I have an external monitor attached with an HDMI cable to my laptop. I use Xinerama to use both monitors simultaneously. This works well, except for when I unplug the HDMI cable. I would expect xorg to reset itself to single screen mode. It blinks black as if it tries to reset, but the secondary screen still exists as it's possible to drag the mouse pointer out of the screen and applications that were on the secondary screen become invisible and are impossible to move. It would be nice if xorg could reset itself into single screen mode and automatically move all applications that resided on the secondary screen to the primary one when I unplug the cable. Using Ubuntu 10.10 with fglrx. xorg: Installed: 1:7.5+6ubuntu3 Candidate: 1:7.5+6ubuntu3 fglrx: Installed: 2:8.780-0ubuntu2 Candidate: 2:8.780-0ubuntu2 What you expected to happen: That the secondary screen be disabled when unplugging HDMI cable in Xinerama. What happened instead: The secondary screen remained active even though I couldn't see it and applications that were on that screen became invisible and impossible to move. + --- + .tmp.unity.support.test.1: + + ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu3 + Architecture: amd64 + CompizPlugins: [core, bailer, detection, composite, opengl, compiztoolbox, decor, grid, imgpng, place, regex, snap, vpswitch, resize, unitymtgrabhandles, gnomecompat, session, move, mousepoll, wall, animation, fade, expo, workarounds, scale, ezoom, unityshell] + CompositorRunning: None + DistUpgraded: Fresh install + DistroCodename: oneiric + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 + DistroVariant: ubuntu + DkmsStatus: fglrx, 8.881, 3.0.0-12-generic, x86_64: installed + GraphicsCard: + ATI Technologies Inc Madison [Mobility Radeon HD 5000 Series] [1002:68c0] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) +Subsystem: Dell Device [1028:02fe] + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot - Release amd64 (20111012) + JockeyStatus: + xorg:fglrx_updates - ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver (post-release updates) (Proprietary, Disabled, Not in use) + xorg:fglrx - ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver (Proprietary, Enabled, In use) + Lsusb: + Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub + Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub + Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:0020 Intel Corp. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 881046] [NEW] Panning in a virtual monitor is not possible after upgrade to Ubuntu 11.10
Public bug reported: When I go for a virtual monitor by issuing command xrandr --output LVDS1 --fb 1600x1200 --panning 1600x1200 on a monitor working at resolution 1024x768 (as I did before upgrading from Ubuntu 11.04 to Ubuntu 11.10), the WM bars on top and left side of the screen (in Unity) look like extending to the new area, but I cannot move the pointer to the new extra area and so I cannot pan. As far as I understood by reading around, this *could* be a bug in package xorg-server rather than in xrandr and *could* be related to the boundaries set for cursor position. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 838577] Re: GNOME Shell display problems with FGLRX
I've followed Steffen's instructions, including installing normal fglrx, then downloading the ATI driver from http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx, purching fglrx and fglrx-amdcccle then installing the new drivers. After a reboot I come to blank screen. I can boot recovery just fine, but even then im getting mediocre performance. glxgears is around 2500fps in gnome-shell but is at about 1fps in gnome-classic. Gnome-shell is generally choppier too. Window transitions and moving windows is not smooth. Is there a solution to the blank screen? Is my performance normal for the current state of drivers? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/838577 Title: GNOME Shell display problems with FGLRX To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/fglrx/+bug/838577/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 772873] Re: Vino does not work with compositing
I have the same problem with vino-server in an oneiric system with a ATI Video (ATI Technologies Inc RS880 [Radeon HD 4250]), but not running the fglrx proprietary driver. What I get is a session with sporadic updates - I can get the screen updated by wiping a terminal window around the screen. So I can confirm that this is not just an fglrx-specific bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/772873 Title: Vino does not work with compositing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/772873/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
