[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 882841] Re: Mouse pointer becomes invisible in most windows
** Description changed: PC running 11.10. Problem started as soon as upgrade was complete. + + The mouse pointer is invisible everywhere on screen. Sometimes, when the + region it's in requires a different pointer than the default arrow + (pointing finger, I-beam, etc), it will be visible, and on-screen + objects always react to the presence of the mouse pointer, even when it + can't be seen. + + The mouse pointer has disappeared ever since I upgraded to Ubuntu 11.10. + It's very frustrating that every attempt at using the mouse to navigate + within this website or within the windowed environment is a matter of + educated guesswork, since I can't see where I'm pointing the mouse. + + To my mind, describing the mouse pointer as invisible captures the + elements of the problem in one word. It's not that it doesn't exist, + for, like the invisible man, it still interacts with its surroundings, + but, also like the invisible man, it can no longer be seen. The only + time it becomes visible is when the mouse pointer changes from the arrow + to another form. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 881004] Re: windows moving is too slow on fglrx
i think i managed to get rid of the problem (i didnt notice any component update related to the problem) disabled no tearing in catalyst, set perf refresh to never except if app specify it in ccsm : opengl:sync disabled, composite:autodetect refresh off, composite:freq 60 reboot the problem was still here ccsm: composite:freq 120 reboot no more sluggish window moving, it was smooth but there was a lot of tearing so i decided to reenable settings one by one with reboots between ccsm: composite:freq 60 reboot - ok catalyst perf refresh: always reboot- ok catalyst no tearing on reboot - ok windows moving is still smooth and there's no annoying tearing my conclusion is that all these settings react not as expected when used/switched all together. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 882143] Re: Separate x-screens option does not result in a desktop manager on the 2nd screen
This Bug affects me, too. Using a Dell Vostro 1500 with nvidia 8600GTM with an external Monitor via VGA wth nvidia-current. Used to have 2 seperate X Screens on Lucid before with gnome2. Twinview works on both Screens, but with seperate x-screens options i either get a white screen or the wallpaper but no panel or dash. The Mouse can move over to the external Desktop but just shows a X like in low grafics mode. I tried my old lucids xorg.conf where the setup worked, but its no difference. ** Tags added: nvidia -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-settings in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/882143 Title: Separate x-screens option does not result in a desktop manager on the 2nd screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-settings/+bug/882143/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 822098] Re: [i965gm] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x78010004 - Playing GL game (mesa?)
Since the last comment, I have attempted to lock up the system in the same manner originally described in this bug. The screen does not go black and lock up and require a restart as before. Before, about one out of two times on the lock ups the screen would go black and no signal would appear to go to the external monitor I was using or the laptop screen itself and require a restart. I believe the lockups I was referencing in the last comment, may have been an issue associated to the game itself or a hardware overheating issue because the screen no longer goes blank but the game itself slows down and crashes. But, unlike before, I have not had to restart the system on the last few attempts to cause the original problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/822098 Title: [i965gm] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x78010004 - Playing GL game (mesa?) yup, same for me on Oneiric 64 bit, e.g. intel mobile graphics. same behaviour shows up both in unity and gnome shell, no difference at all. iirc, in one of the latest updates for 11.04 the problem went away (*on 11.04*) and I was able to pan as I needed, opposed to what was happening on fedora etc. Therefore seems a regression to me. please fix this soon, it's quite important for small displays (and a need on the job...) thanks -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libxrandr in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/878454 Title: --scale and --panning options do not resize the mouse area accordingly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libxrandr/+bug/878454/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 875504] Re: terrible screen flicker in 11.10
On my Desktop PC I am running 11.10 x64 with a AMD Radeon HD 6950 graphics card with Gallium 0.4 on AMD Cayman drivers, and I do not get any flicker at all. Although, on my AMD Radeon HD mobility 4200 series card on my laptop, I get horrible flicker while doing most things in Unity and Gnome-Shell, and that is while running the standard Gallium 0.4 drivers. Is there something drastically different in the drivers between these two different cards? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/875504 Title: terrible screen flicker in 11.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/875504/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 755791] Re: [RS690M] No 3d acceleration in Radeon X1200 with new Gallium r300 / 3d drivers in 11.04
There is a patch in freedesktop.org bug tracker, that seems to fix the problem. If someone wants to try it, it's there, but please be careful. ** Description changed: The bug is active also in Freedesktop.org : https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37679 + [edit] + The bug seems to be fixed with a patch provided by Freedesktop.org team. + [/edit] [edit] This bug is caused by interrupts. They're not working. The solution for this problem is: - To see if Ubuntu 10.04 (where all things worked well) used UMS instead of KMS. - If Lucid used KMS, to bisect the kernel to see what change caused the problem. [/edit] [edit] The bug description, updated: The symptoms: No 3d acceleration (glxgears shows a black window, Unity doesn't start), *but* no fallback into the software-rendering mode (glxinfo reports that the 3d acceleration is working) The hardware: ATI Radeon RS690M X1200 series The version of Ubuntu: Ubuntu 11.04 (final release) [and Maverick also]. The behavior was also observed in Debian and Fedora 15, as noted below (so it seems not to be Ubuntu-specific). The version of xserver-xorg-video-ati: 1:6.14.0-0ubuntu4 (default in Natty). Same problems with the xorg-edgers PPA in Natty Beta2. The software affected: Compiz (doesn't start because requires direct rendering); then, Unity (just the wallpaper or black screen and the mouse pointer). glxgears, Stellarium, Blender, Adobe Flash Player in fullscreen mode and Visual module of Python work if software rendering is forced (but of course they run very very slow). The history of the bug: all worked as expected (out of the box) in 10.04, but in 10.10 the problems started. The workaround was to disable KMS, but now, in Maverick, since the new Gallium driver doesn't have a non-KMS mode, that workaround is not available. This issue was reported when using 11.04 Beta 1 and Beta 2, then, in the descriptions below there are some strange things (xorg crash during startup, software rendering fallback), that don't occur any more. The issue is just the description given here. The exceptions: **sometimes** (??) the 3d acceleration does work as expected, but at the moment there is no way for us to know when it will work or not [help please!]. And, sometimes the 3d acceleration work but is so slow that it seems to be actually software rendering. The workarounds: `vblank_mode=0 glxgears` (or other program) gives correct 3d accelerated output. `export vblank_mode=0` also allows to start Compiz and 3d acceleration works after running that. That is just a workaround and the problem is not solved yet. [/edit] Binary package hint: xorg I installed Ubuntu 11.04 Beta 1, and I'm not able to run Unity and Compiz, because I have no 3d acceleration. However, I was able to run Compiz once, the next time I booted, I don't know why, Compiz doesn't work. After several reboots, I see the following: 1. Sometimes (?), I have 3d acceleration via software rendering. When I run `glxinfo | grep render` I get: direct rendering: Yes OpenGL renderer string: Software Rasterizer GL_NV_conditional_render, GL_NV_depth_clamp, GL_NV_fragment_program, And if I run `compiz --replace`, I get the following error: Backend : gconf Integration : true Profile : default Adding plugins Initializing core options...done Initializing bailer options...done Initializing detection options...done Initializing composite options...done Compiz (opengl) - Fatal: GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is missing Compiz (opengl) - Fatal: Software rendering detected Compiz (bailer) - Info: Ensuring a shell for your session prueba@prueba:~$ Window manager warning: Locale not understood by C library, internationalization will not work (metacity:2357): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 556782] Re: [rs690m] Graphics corruption with ati x1200
SOLVED Hi again. Sorry about the last two comments. I was in a carpool on CA-17 when I wrote them. I think. Anyway, I tried many of the above on my LT3103u and the only one that worked for me was passing nomodeset (not any of the modeset=0 variants) on the kernel commandline (first tested interactively by catching grub in the act of booting, and then by putting it in the /boot/grub/grub.cfg via /etc/default/grub and update- grub). For completeness, and to help out others who come across this via web search, here's the chip in question: $ lspci|grep VGA 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RS690M [Radeon X1200 Series] And I am in fact running 32 bit Lucid on this 64 bit machine, not 31 bit ;-) Now that this issue is solved, I'm ready to bump the distro back up a notch (I'd downgraded to try to get this resolved) Oh, and for the record, it made no difference on this machine whether I was an upgraded user or a newly created user. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 875504] Re: terrible screen flicker in 11.10
In Unity this issue mostly occurs when viewing different lenses. The whole 'lens' feature creates a black tear that streches the span of the screen and is very ugly. Also, when dragging a window to the top to use the snap-to-fullscreen feature it has HORRIBLE tearing. Unity tearing is far worse than Gnome-Shell tearing, but both are present.
