[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 755841] Re: [sandybridge] video tearing
If indeed the problem this bug describes is the error (WW) intel(0): first get vblank counter failed: Invalid argument then I think my fix for bug 763005 will solve that. Because part of the fix for bug 763005 is to remove the need for compiz to get the vblank counter at all. If this bug doesn't become a duplicate of bug 763005, maybe it can be considered a duplicate of the more general tearing bug 880707 which affects any graphics chip and has an exact known cause. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/755841 Title: [sandybridge] video tearing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/755841/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I've been experiencing these same problems with my MacBook Pro 5.1 system. Based on all of your comments, this is my work around. 1. Login from LDM in Unity. 2. Add a link to /usr/bin/unity on your Desktop. 3. Open Nvidia Settings 4. Enable second monitor in Twin View mode. 5. It will fail leaving you with only one monitor. That's OK. 6. Enable second monitor in Twin View mode a second time. 7. You'll have a dual monitor desktop, but Unity will crash. 8. Double Click on unity icon on your desktop. 9. Nautilus will ask you how you want to load the file. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 14644] Re: Runlevel 2 starting GUI
As stated many years ago, this is a question of local policy. Some users want the same runlevel definitions as RedHat isn't a critical bug in Debian or Ubuntu, it's a local decision for the admin to make, should they want to. The argument that you need a text-only runlevel for maintenance is readily solved by single-user. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Invalid ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Assignee: Daniel Stone (daniels) = (unassigned) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/14644 Title: Runlevel 2 starting GUI To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/14644/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 14644] Re: Runlevel 2 starting GUI
Not quite. Single-user mode is useless if you need network connectivuty. That's the purpose of it, disabling all devices and getting to a bare running command prompt. If you instead want to work on the system *WITH* the network enabled, then a text-only runlevel is needed. Also, if you want to leave the system headless and only run GUI applications remotely, it's foolish to have a GUI running at the console. But as I had pointed out YEARS ago when first describing this bug; if you have hardware that will need some custom tweaking, you will need network connectivity **AND** no GUI running. I know, with the headlong lemming-rush towards Wayland, the idea that someone may need to work on a text-only system is completely alien. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/14644 Title: Runlevel 2 starting GUI To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/14644/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 883673] [NEW] X started by lightdm renders X11 screen ugly/unusable
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hi, after upgrading my system to oneiric, the X11 desktop is ugly and almost unusable, because the fonts and characters are stretched horizontally and blurred. I guess that the reason is a wrong/odd dpi value, because xdpyinfo says screen #0: dimensions:1600x1200 pixels (473x302 millimeters) resolution:86x101 dots per inch I would prefer to simply give X a better dpi value as a command line argument, but as far as I can see that damned lightdm does not allow to configure any command line parameters for X (which I consider as broken design). So I wanted to define it in .profile, but what ever I do, it seems to be cleared unconditionally after interpretation of .profile. Mouse the cursor over the bar above a window, click (don't release), and without taking your finger off of the touchpad, move around. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/367399 Title: Dragging with touchpad on MacBook does not work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/367399/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 820881] Re: [i945] Heavy screen and font corruption when free memory is low on GMA950
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82915G/GV/910GL Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2582] (rev 04) so yeah, it's not *exactly* the same hardware as per the bug report but it is exactly the same symptom and probably similar enough causes... For full confirmation someone would have to test on the exact system... mine's 910 vs. 950 GMA 82915 vs. 82945 - anyhow, it is what it is and I hope it is still helpful :) Mine usually started to corrupt within 20 mins but varied with what I was doing - java game opening multiple tabs, etc... If I wasn't doing much (surfing, checking e-mail) it would go much longer -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/820881 Title: [i945] Heavy screen and font corruption when free memory is low on GMA950 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/820881/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 878454] Re: --scale and --panning options do not resize the mouse area accordingly
I was one of the ones who had commented in bug 866065, and any other thread I'm finding (and there are QUITE a few, as this is affecting many people) Here's hoping somebody looks into THIS one, because the scale function of xrandr is a MUST on my netbook. I'm running the Unity/Gnome desktop on my version of Oneiric 32 bit. I believe the post-release version of fglrx is the package called fglrx-updates in Ubuntu 11.10. In Ubuntu 11.10 presently, fglrx is version 2:8.881-0ubuntu4 fglrx-updates is version 2:8.881-0ubuntu6 So you're unlikely to see any difference right now. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 884348] Re: Phantom HDMI Probe
Hmm, the old quirk table in the intel X driver appears to be long gone, so the trivial fix for this is no longer possible. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 562005] Re: Backlight controls of laptops with NVIDIA NVS and Quadro FX 880M GPUs no longer function while using proprietary drivers
The nvidiabl driver now detects ThinkPad T510s with model 4313CTO. This will not allow gnome-power-manager to control the backlight, but at least the keys will worksort of. With autodetected values, brightness can be turned down all the way, but can only be set to a proper maximum by switching to a VT and turning the brightness down a notch. If anyone would like to play around with backlight values, the instructions below will get them set up. nvidiabl's source can be modified to work with other ThinkPad models as well. ACPI backlight control must be set to vendor, the thinkpad_acpi module's brightness controls must be disabled and the brightness keys must be bound using acpi events. ACPI backlight controls can be set to vendor by setting 'GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=acpi_backlight=vendor' in /etc/default/grub and then running update-grub. thinkpad_acpi's brightness controls can be disabled by creating /etc/modprobe.d/thinkpad_acpi.conf and adding the line options thinkpad_acpi brightness_enable=0. nvidiabl source can be obtained from https://github.com/guillaumezin/nvidiabl , then installed by dkms. The scripts nvidia_backlight_down.sh and nvidia_backlight_up.sh should be copied from the scripts folder to /etc/acpi. Then the brightness keys can be bound to those scripts by creating/filling the following files: /etc/acpi/events/lenovo-4313cto-brightness-down event=video LCD0 0087 action=/etc/acpi/nvidia_backlight_down.sh /etc/acpi/events/lenovo-4313cto-brightness-up event=video LCD0 0086 action=/etc/acpi/nvidia_backlight_up.sh ACPI events were determined using acpi_listen. Alternately, there are .deb packages that install nvidiabl via dkms available from https://github.com/guillaumezin/nvidiabl/downloads . Currently only 4313CTO models have backlight support by default, but it's only a matter of adding PCI IDs and some basic detection stuff. That stuff can be passed when the module is loaded, check the docs for details. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/562005 Title: Backlight controls of laptops with NVIDIA NVS and Quadro FX 880M GPUs no longer function while using proprietary drivers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/562005/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
