[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 887445] [NEW] I can not login

2011-11-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I've made a new install of 11.10 and I think I've finaly got rid of the binary
drivers (fglrx and fglrx-updates, there are two?) but I still can not log in in
X (I can login if I switch to console CTRL+ALT+F1)
When I try to login in X the following happens. I select my account and type my
password. Hits ENTER and then the screen switches to console mode, write some
gibberish (a few non a-z character) and then switches back to X and I'm back
at the login where I should select account and enter my password.

I had no problems like this with 11.04 and I have not found any
solution. it seems that X is crashing (I think Xorg.0.log file is
supplied automatically to this bug report) and I desperatly need your
help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 542731] Re: [gm45] Xorg crash - Failed to submit batchbuffer: No space left on device

2011-11-08 Thread Lukav
The bug still exists in 10.04 LTS.
With me it occurs when I open a mail in thunderbird with 2 big attached images.
I also doesn't plan to upgrade till the next LTS on this machine and think the
bug should be reopenned till a fix is release in the LTS repository.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 577340] hibernate

2011-11-08 Thread Karesz
Same here. Hibernate, resuming from hibernation works fine. Suspend works
fine. Resuming from suspend fails most times, s2ram made things worse. But
not every time! The Oneiric live USB (64bit) Resumed fine maybe 1 out of 10
times (approx.). And not all the other 9 times were complete failure:
sometimes it weren't necessary to take out the battery, press the power
button and then put it back together, and boot; a simple switch off-switch
on, or sometimes an Altgr+prtscr REISUB worked.
kernel version: 3.0.0-12

Still cannot resume from the suspend, however, I now can hibernate (to
disk) and resume successfully. s2disk apparently did not help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 783993] Re: unity freezing periodicly [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id

2011-11-08 Thread Lasse Makholm
I was wrong... What I'm seeing is a gnome-shell hang. Just hit it again
with no drm errors in syslog. X is still live but gnome-shell is stuck
on on a futex wait.

killall -9 gnome-shell from another VT fixes it.

Sorry for the noise...

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 771788] Re: nVidia driver activated and apparently being used but reported as not being used by jockey-gtk

2011-11-08 Thread Linuxexperte
Hi Alessandro,

if you have Ubuntu or LinuxMint installed, you can check this via your
Terminal. So open your Terminal and type in this:

lsusb (this lists all usb-devices on your computer; also internals)

lspci (this lists all the pci-devices in your machine)

Then copypaste these outputs here into this topic and then we can see,
what is wrong with your machine.

Could you please do so?? Thi would be pretty helpful. Thanks in advance,
Linuxhelfer

It's not a branded but an assembled computer.

 System Information says:

 Memory: 3,9 Gb
 Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 250 Processor × 2
Graphic card: UNKNOWN (that's the problem), it should be GeForce 8400
 OS Type: 64-bit
 Disk: 482,4 Gb

So, the Additional Drivers DOES recognize the graphic card, but System
 Information does NOT.

It's really slow when I connect another monitor. It was slow with Natty,
too, but not at unusable like the new Ubuntu version. I have tried
different version of the Nvidia graphics driver without any success to
make it better.

I noticed that after plugging in the monitor compiz needs unusal long to
recover.

Interesting stuff. I also noticed a successful resume once with the
metacity wm, however could not repeat it afterwards. In that
successful event an attempt to turn the compiz on gave me an
Xserver/gdm crash.

I am actually glad that at least hibernate is available.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 783641] Re: touchpad stops working until I switch the user or re-login

2011-11-08 Thread Tom Nicholls
It looks like the issue is related to GNOME's settings - specifically
the touchpad_enabled setting being set to false. See
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1606153 for discussion.

The following solution works for me. Open a terminal (or press Alt+F2), and
enter:
gconftool -s -t bool /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/touchpad_enabled true

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 859389] Re: [i915] DVI monitor via adapter to DisplayPort is reported as HDMI.

2011-11-08 Thread Joseph Salisbury
This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest
upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug
report at bugzilla.kernel.org [1]? That will allow the upstream
Developers to examine the issue, and may provide a quicker resolution to
the bug.

If you are comfortable with opening a bug upstream, It would be great if
you can report back the upstream bug number in this bug report. That
will allow us to link this bug to the upstream report.

The bugzilla.kernel.org site may still be unavailable due to the recent
break-in. If that is the case, please add the tag: kernel-needs-
upstream-bug-report

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 887756] [NEW] Black screen on boot with sandy bridge processor

2011-11-08 Thread Alan Goldblatt
Public bug reported:

This is on an HP Compaq 8200 Elite all-in-one, with an Intel i3-2100.
The live CD for Oneiric boots to a black screen. I instead installed
Lucid, which works fine, but without proprietary graphics abilities.
Upgrade to Natty resulted in a black screen on boot again. Booting with
the Lucid kernel still works fine.

I tried installing the 3.1 kernel, thinking the issue was supposed to
have been fixed, but it too boots to a black screen. For now I'm
running Natty with the Lucid 2.6.32-28 kernel. I'm afraid to even try
updating to Oneiric lest apt remove the one working kernel I have
left... Especially since my experiment with 3.1 failed.

It would seem that the sandy bridge support in the newer kernels is
broken, but the generic support works if one boots to a kernel prior to
sandy bridge support.

Thanks for your help everyone!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 820881] Re: [i945] Heavy screen and font corruption when free memory is low on GMA950

2011-11-08 Thread Rui Moreira
I'm experiencing this problem since I upgraded from 11.04 to 11.10.
I thought it had been a bad upgrade and I then did a fresh install and the
problem remains.
I've also experienced this on both Kde and Gnome sessions.
Sessions without acceleration like Ubuntu 2D are not affected.
My VGA card is :
VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82915G/GV/910GL Integrated
Graphics Controller (rev 04)

Note: I'm not going back to Windows over this! I'd rather poke myself
with a burning stick.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 887820] [NEW] Graphic boot mode

2011-11-08 Thread yelnats60
Public bug reported:

When GRUB is loaded this message appears on the screen 'Not Optimum Mode
Recommended Mode 1280x1024 60hz'. This is the mode I utilize in Windows 7. Also
within Ubuntu 11.10. I have an NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE nForce 430 winth 128MB
video memory that is on the motherboard, not a separate card. I would like to
find a way to get GRUB to utilize the correct Graphic setting so that I may see
the other Systems also installed with the GRUB boot menu. I utilize GRUB2. I
have been a fan with Ubuntu since version 6.04 was released. There has been
many changes and always to the best until the problem occurred which I now have.

As of today, it sometimes works, but it's hard to characterize when it
does and when it does not. Generally speaking docking the laptop while
it's powered on is problematic.

2011-11-08 Thread Phil V
Thanks for your bug report. I'm re-targeting this to xorg, as it is the correct
package for problems like this. I'm not familiar with debugging xorg issues,
but I can help you attach relevant system information and log files so that
others can help you. From a terminal could you please run the following command:
apport-collect 887794

After you do that you can go ahead and change the status of this report
back to new.

2011-11-08 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hey corbin,

Hi, thanks for reporting this issue during the development period of
Ubuntu.

I notice there's not been further comments to the bug report since the
release came out, would you mind updating us on the status of it in the
release?

Are you still able to reproduce the issue? If not, do you think the bug
report can be closed, or do you think we should continue tracking it?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 857816] Re: X fails to start on boot

2011-11-08 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hey parag-warudkar,

Hi, thanks for reporting this issue during the development period of
Ubuntu.

I notice there's not been further comments to the bug report since the
release came out, would you mind updating us on the status of it in the
release?

Are you still able to reproduce the issue? If not, do you think the bug
report can be closed, or do you think we should continue tracking it?
