[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 755791] Re: [RS690M] No 3d acceleration in Radeon X1200 with new Gallium r300 / 3d drivers in 11.04

2011-11-09 Thread Dennis Fehr
Hmmm.. On deeper investigation, my issue still remains. (I'm on nvidia)
.. The desktop eventually just lags on it's own, it was the reboot that
made it faster. Although when I disabled Wobbly Windows, it ran fast
again.. Thinking possibly it's a bug in Wobbly Windows..?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 753144] Re: focused, or maximized windows blank

2011-11-09 Thread sordna
For me upgrading to oneiric solved the issue, but please note I am using
xubuntu (XFCE). However the upgrade introduced a new compiz issue,
whenever I rotate the desktop cube, as soon as the new face settles in
place, the windows of the previous face flash on the new face for a
split second. Has anyone else noticed this? It's really annoying. If
this bug is reported already (on launchpad or any ohter site) please
point me to it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work

2011-11-09 Thread pauljohn32
Hello, Seth

It's me again, still trying to get good diagnostic output for the
driver. I have 2 files attached here, as you ask for.

In the previous post, I said that sometimes the mouse flies off to the
top left, and you asked if perhaps I'm touching the left part of the
touchpad. I've been checking. Definitely, I'm not touching the left
side. That still happens intermittently. And here's the weirdest part.
If I plug in a USB mouse and keyboard, sometimes the cursor flies about
wild up to the left, even if I don't touch the touchpad at all. Just
using the mouse does that.

The other weird problem is periodic "sluggishness". Sometimes touching
the pad just doesn't move the pointer much. Sometimes it will stay
sluggish for a long while and I modprobe the psmouse to shake it loose.
But sometimes it goes away after 5 or 10 seconds. I don't see any
pattern in it. I've been trying to get diagnostic output for those
moments. I change to the VT1 and create the diagnostic files, but I
fear the output will not help you because the sluggishness may be cured
by the act of hitting Alt-Ctl-F1. I mean, by the time I get there and
run input-events, I can't say for sure if the mouse is still sluggish or
not.

But I just have to rely on your best guess!

On Debian, my kernel is 3.0.0-1-amd64 and the psmouse patch is version
10.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 821749] Re: Screen Drawing Ceases Updating (ex, ScreenSaver stays black), Mouse-Pointer Updates Correctly

2011-11-09 Thread Dave Lindquist
I have upgraded to oneric, and this problem appears to no longer happen
(or at least, hasn't happened yet).

I suspect this was driver related, and given the fact that oneric gives
me about 600 fps as opposed to 60 fps in natty, I'm inclined to think
that the graphics driver quality has improved overall.

My guess is that this bug can now be closed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 888373] [NEW] Ubuntu 11.10 won't boot without safe mode

2011-11-09 Thread Alex
Public bug reported:

Hi!

I have a problem when I try to start Ubuntu 11.10. Ubuntu 11.04 worked
fine.

When I try to start Ubuntu this pops up:
http://i.stack.imgur.com/qJJxX.jpg
"[4.629137] phy0 -> rt2800pci_mcu_status: Error - mcu request failed, no
response from hardware" usually pops up there too.

I have no problems if I start Ubuntu in safe mode. Everything works is
safe mode(i think).

First I tried to upgrade 11.04 to 11.10, then I got this error. Then I
removed the broken 11.10 installation and installed 11.10. I still can't
boot without using safe mode. I have no problems on my laptop.

I've tried the suggestions posted here:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/68220/ubuntu-11-10-wont-boot-with-nvidia-driver-enabled?answertab=active#tab-top
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+question/174632

System specs:
CPU: i7-2600k
Memory: Corsair vengeance 16GB
Motherboard: Asus P8P67 PRO REV 3.0
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 560 Ti SOC
Disks: Corsair Force GT and two 1 TB drives for storage.
Dualbooting with Windows 7 Ultimate.

I'm not sure if Xorg is the right package for this, please correct me if
I'm wrong.

Any ideas?

Hi

I am sorry my system died in one of the many power breaks, it worked
however nicely with xubuntu 11.04 and before with ubuntu 10.10. It is a
HP desktop with a special powersupply, no spares here.

Good luck

Bert

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 755751] Re: Application windows clipped off when first opened

2011-11-09 Thread Dave Yarusso
Resolved in new release. Please close bug report.

** Description changed:

Upon first launching any application, the window is shifted to the right
about 1/8 inch and clipped off on the right side so the right side
scroll bar is nearly invisible. If I resize the window and then
  maximize it, it is fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 877789] Re: Choppy Audio After Upgrade To 11.10

2011-11-09 Thread Clint Smith
I have been having the same symptoms Cristian described. I upgraded
from Ubuntu 11.04 to 11.10 on a Dell Latitude E6520 (dual-boot with
Windows 7 Enterprise). At first audio and video were fine, but now I
get no audio, and video skips in "hiccups" every few seconds. All
multimedia exhibits these symptoms, not just Flash. It did not coincide
with any system updates that I recall.

I have tried several workarounds/fixes recommended online, but none have
had any apparent effect. I certainly look forward to a working patch
for this :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 770283] Re: [fglrx]title bar does not update on non-maximized windows

2011-11-09 Thread Derek White
Happens in 11.10 Gnome Classic running compiz & ATI 11.9 (fglrx 8.892).
Shaded windows still show their window decorations. Using
Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Left/Right to move windows between workspaces/viewports
is also broken - window just returns to the screen it started on.

Seems like window's got totally screwed over with the Unity re-
writes...and they still aren't addressing any issues they created even
after a second release. 7 months and only a tiny bit of triaging on
this...can't we even get a "report this upstream/to compiz/to AMD" or
"we are dropping support for gnome classic, bugger off" so we know you
are actively ignoring it, instead of passively ignoring it?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 771788] Re: nVidia driver activated and apparently being used but reported as not being used by jockey-gtk

2011-11-09 Thread Alessandro Ceschini
Hi Andrea
OK, I'll try this BUT I don't think it'll work. Remember this:

Unity support test:
Not software rendered: yes
Not blacklisted: yes
GLX fbconfig: yes
GLX texture from pixmap: yes
GL npot or rect textures: yes
GL vertex program: yes
GL fragment program: yes
GL vertex buffer object: yes
GL framebuffer object: yes
GL version is 1.4+: yes

Unity 3D supported: yes

So WTF is wrong here, and why should I buy a new card when the system
says it's not blacklisted? Buying a new card is acceptable only when the
card is blacklisted, otherwise it's not my fault. It's up to Ubuntu
developers to solve my problem.

Subject: [Bug 868757] Re: random mouse pointer freezes

Hey jaymac,

Hi, thanks for reporting this issue during the development period of
Ubuntu.

I notice there's not been further comments to the bug report since the
release came out, would you mind updating us on the status of it in the
release?

Are you still able to reproduce the issue? If not, do you think the bug
report can be closed, or do you think we should continue tracking it?

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 771788] Re: nVidia driver activated and apparently being used but reported as not being used by jockey-gtk

2011-11-09 Thread Linuxexperte
Hi Allessandro,
three years is not an age for a graphiccard!! more than 10 years would be
something, where I would say this is old.
But not in your case as well as mine. My Laptop is also only nearly two
years old. And for a Notebook, this is also
not a real age!!!
I experienced the same problem with my Graphiccard, I posted in LinuxMint
9. So I had to install this ppa-repository
and that helped me out of a mess with my nvidia-card. For me, the
display-resolution was way to big in that former
release of LinuxMint. But since this new driver has been publised, I do
not have these problems anymore. And on this
link they also write that it can be possible, that LinuxMint, Ubuntu and
its derivates do not support such so new cards
properly and that's why this ppa-repository is really recommended.

The change of your graphiccard would only be for the very worst case, if
this ppa-repository won't help you out of your
problem. I don't think, that reopening this bug would help a lot. First
try that hint with this ppa-repository. But if
that should not help, then you should really think about changing that one.

Greetings
Linuxexperte

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 793109] Re: VLC Crashes X when playing an FLV file

2011-11-09 Thread J
I'm experiencing this on Arch Linux (so yeah, everything's up-to-date -
xorg-server 1.11.2, VLC 1.1.12). It only started happening in the last
few weeks, though, but I didn't notice it soon enough for any updates to
stand out in the logs. Error message is the same (searching it got me
here).

I am also using 11.10.

I have a triple boot windows 7, FreeBSD 8.2 and Ubuntu 11.10. All three
are up-to-date. I see the error message "090D" every time I reboot from
Ubuntu. I never see this message when rebooting from Windows 7 or
FreeBSD 8.2.

Yes, this is still an issue in Oneiric. It won't even start with gksu either.
I don't know if I should file a new bug with the new crash report and close
this one, or just leave this one open.

It's not really a problem that I can't use amdcccle because I can change
between monitors in Ubuntu's settings as well.

I am using the Ubuntu 11.10 with all updates. I can confirm that the
error message "090D" is still there everything I reboot from Ubuntu when
I was in X in last boot of Ubuntu. And this never happen when I boot the
dual-boot windows 7.

Though the frequency of blank screen is greatly reduced, that I only see
it about once in about 2 weeks, and it's usually after some crash or
ungracefully shutdown of Ubuntu or X.

And I have hibernate working now. Though resume from suspend doesn't.

2011-11-09 Thread die_kale
Hey Bryce,

The bug was a little to anoying to ignore, and I met some other issues
with natty (ie no stable VPN connection to a certain cisco based
network), that I gave up after a couple of months, and did the brave
thing to downgrade to 10.04 LTS. Its not the most straight-forward thing
to do, and it gave me some amount of hassle, but with the community
based information I managed it. So three cheers to any-one who
participated in documenting a down-grade (and that it is possibel to
downgrade really shows how well thought an OS we are dealing with here),
and good luck with development. I cant say I am willing to try and
install oneiric, since I am running out of primary partitions on this
particular machine. Please feel free to close the bug, alas marked as
unresolved.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 887445] Re: I can not login

2011-11-09 Thread Steve Langasek
You have a significant number of server packages installed. It is
likely that one or more of these is handling the console inappropriately
at boot time.

cloud-init
monit
mysql-server-5.1
postgresql-common
tomcat6

I recommend that you try disabling each of these services in turn and
reboot after disabling each one, to see if one of these is the culprit.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 771788] Re: nVidia driver activated and apparently being used but reported as not being used by jockey-gtk

2011-11-09 Thread Linuxexperte
that's strange then. Because for me after installing LinuxMint or either
Ubuntu (right now) on my Notebook,
it went well in the first try. For me it works really fine. Then you
should really think about changing your
graphiccard.

Mine is this one: 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation
C79 [GeForce 9200M G] (rev b1)

And this one works fine for me.

Then the next hint for you would be to install this ppa-repository here:

http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Grafikkarten/Nvidia/nvidia?highlight=ubuntu-x-swat

Perhaps this could solve your problem. It could be possible, that your
card is too new to be properly
supported by the older versions of the nvidia-driver. This ppa-repository
brings a newer one, which
should work fine for you. Or if you have already installed it, then purge
this ppa-repository and run
these commands in your terminal

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Let these commands run through completely. Then afterwards, try to install
the proprietary nvidia-
driver.

Tell me, if these hints help you with your problem.

Greetings
Linuxexperte

Perhaps if you change your graphiccard??

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 852812] Re: [gm45] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x78080003

2011-11-09 Thread Corbin
Good morning,
This bug does still exist. After about an hour of testing, my tester's
game-play was ended by a GUP hang (see attached terminal output).

Before this was reproduced, there was a similar problem, which may or
may not be related. Because I have no idea what happened, I'll talk
about it here. While the tester was playing, the X server crashed, and
the screen switched to a TTY-like session with kernel messages about the
error, and the kernel seems to have completely crashed. I believe that
the kernel crashed because the computer was taking no input. I couldn't
switch TTY Sessions or anything, I just had to do a hard reboot. Because
I had no X server, the only valuable output I could get was by taking
pictures of the screen with my cell phone. I uploaded the images to my
site here: http://jdgregson.com/temp/ubuntubug/

Hope this helps. I will post this same comment on the bug report on
freedesktop.org, just to keep everything in sync.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 774623] Re: low perfomance in gpu-calculations

2011-11-09 Thread Aleksandr Tishin
Hello. I made some tests in oneiric. And results makes me sad. The
gpu-calculations slower in oneiric than in natty.
In maverick there are 48Ghashes/s
In natty - 38Ghashes/s
In oneiric - 29Ghashes/s

And in oneiric both my processor cores are 100% loaded.

I don't think there will be a natty backport (at least I am not going to
do it). What you can do is either:

- Uninstall the overlay-scrollbar package
- Switch to a style which is not affected by the bug and does not have
the tooltip issue. I think Plastique should work fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 887445] Re: I can not login

2011-11-09 Thread Steve Langasek
This error is in general caused by some other software setting the
console in an incorrect state. It's not an X bug, but a bug in
something else which has changed X's console underneath it.

Did you install any extra packages besides the defaults when installing
this system? Can you provide a package list from the system ('dpkg -l |
grep ^ii') ?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 808114] Re: Screen is unresponsive after wakeup from screensaver

2011-11-09 Thread Jeremy Foote
I haven't seen this again since upgrading to 11.10. IMO, it's a tough
call as to whether it's worth backporting. It was obviously a severe
bug, but it was pretty rare, at least in my case.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 857938] Re: Endless GPU reset loop on wake from blanking screen

2011-11-09 Thread phil
I'm not sure I'm ready to upgrade to oneiric just to test this bug. A full
system upgrade seems somewhat risky and I'm still learning about the UI
changeover. As I understand it, Oneiric no longer has Gnome classic.
I have briefly tried the Oneiric Live CD. But, this problem is intermittent
and I don't have a well defined way to reproduce it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 787587] Re: Cannot change screen resolution on Dell Duo in Natty

2011-11-09 Thread Martin Hammer
@jm-leddy #17

1024x768 is a 4:3 resolution which does appear in the Displays dialogue
and works "as expected", i.e. there are large vertical black stripes on
both sides of the screen (since the screen itself is 16:9).

I presume you actually meant to ask does the screen black when 1024x576
resolution is set using xrandr. Alas, since I have little knowledge of
xrandr and jagosta mentions in #4 he "blindly" sets the resolution back,
I am a bit afraid to try this by myself. However, I would be willing to
test it with some instructions how to get a working screen back in case
it blacks out.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 787587] Re: Cannot change screen resolution on Dell Duo in Natty

2011-11-09 Thread James M. Leddy
That's bizarre, I don't even think 1360x768 is a real resolution. That
is certainly still a bug.

Otherwise, Does the screen still blank out when you select 1024x768?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507062] Re: synaptic assert failure: synaptic: ../../src/xcb_io.c:385: _XAllocID: Assertion `ret != inval_id' failed.

2011-11-09 Thread Eliah Kagan
To clarify
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libx11/+bug/507062/comments/94,
both bugs are duplicates of this and contain detailed descriptions, but
only bug 887189 is in Precise.

As a separate matter, it's interesting how, looking here and at public
duplicates, this bug appears to happen far more often on i386 than
amd64. There is, however, a Natty amd64 system (duplicate bug 736997),
as well as a Maverick amd64 system that probably shouldn't be considered
a duplicate (bug 659397), and even a Maverick powerpc system (duplicate
bug 659060).
