[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 887993] Re: desktop sluggish after resume from suspend

2011-11-12 Thread Mario
Also affect me, with 11.10 [64 bits] and radeon 5770.

This is a bug in Unity, because it does not happen in Gnome Shell.

How to play:

Go to Unity Dash, show all applications, move icons up and down with the
scroll bar, suspend and resume, perform the same operation and notice
that is very slow.

Confirmed that the bug is in Unity

Alt-F2 -- unity --reset fixes the problem.

This bug should be passed to Unity instead of xorg?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 889466] [NEW] dead desktop area using dual monitors with different resolution

2011-11-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

while this long standing problem has been mitigated with some previous
work and patches (eg: #389519) at least keeping the mouse away from the
dead area, the desktop behaviour is far from being precise still.

when using a couple of monitors with different vertical resolution,
icons can easily get lost on the shortest monitor, to reproduce the bug
just put on the shortest monitor enough icons to exceed a single
column, click on the desktop with the right mouse button and then
organize desktop by name.

another issue is with compiz corner hotspots bindings, they are never
triggered if there's a dead area above or below theme, it depends on
where your shortest display is aligned in respect of the tallest (top or
bottom margin), to reproduce try for example to bind the Show Desktop
action on a corner of the shortest display.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 858916] Re: [nouveau?] Graphic card 108°C in Ubuntu 11.10

2011-11-12 Thread RobinJ
This might be a kernel bug. This seems to happen with every version of the
Linux kernel past 2.6.35, and it's a lot worse in the 3.x series.
Adding `pcie_aspm=force` to the kernel line in grub.cfg also killed my battery
in a few weeks time.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 889212] Re: LibreOffice window resize corruption in Xubuntu

2011-11-12 Thread Jim McDonald
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected oneiric

** Description changed:

  In Xubuntu 11.10 - using nVidia drivers [nvidia-current 280.13-0ubuntu6] -
dual-screens. [not sure if this is a factor]
  LibreOffice version Installed: 1:3.4.3-3ubuntu2

LibreOffice seems to not like being resized from the top or left sides of the
window [or the top-left or bottom-right corners].
If I resize from the bottom or right sides, it works fine and the window
redraws normally [if a bit slow and klunky]. If I resize from the left or top
sides/corners, the window does not redraw properly. It make it look as if the
part you resized down has just disappeared, so for instance you can no longer
see the title-bar or menu-bar if you resize down from the top. If you resize up
or out from the top/left edges, it still doesn't redraw properly, and the added
window space is filled with what appears to be corrupted desktop image data.

Once the window is corrupted, alt-dragging the window doesn't help, but
if you maximize then unmaximize the window [say from the task-bar] it
  then redraws properly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 889532] [NEW] GL applications segfault after updating nvidia driver

2011-11-12 Thread Ronald McCollam
Public bug reported:

in oneiric on my 64-bit install. However at some point they stopped
working and I automatically fell back to Unity 2D (and did not realize
this until I tried to play a GL-based game).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 889545] [NEW] Vari-Bright™ is enabled by default

2011-11-12 Thread Florian Hars
Public bug reported:

In the default configuration, Vari-Bright™ is enabled, which makes a
laptop mostly unusable, as it arbitrarily messes with the backlight
brightness, turning is so low that you cannot see anything on websites
with a dark background and so bright as to hurt the eyes in fullscreen
editor windows with white background, sometimes changing the brightness
if you scroll just one line or even pulsating with the rhythm of a
blinking cursor. That would be acceptable as a work of conceptual art,
but not in a productivity tool.

Fix: disable Vari-Bright™.

2011-11-12 Thread Dennis-martin-herbers
I can confirm this is NOT fixed in 1:0.9.6+bzr20110929-0ubuntu6
(proposed). However, it is fast again (as expected) with Daniel's PPA.
Please add this fix, there's more than two AMD users out there and they
would love to have better performance.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 841792] Re: Enabling/disabling secondary screen is flaky/unstable

2011-11-12 Thread Christoph Buchner
Well I haven't measured the exact durations he mentions, but since
upgrading to Oneiric, my experience with secondary screens shows most of
the symptoms the OP describes.

2011-11-12 Thread Stefan Ebner
Unfortunately this bug is still present in precise which is not that
surprising though. As someone pointed out in the upstream bug, there are
patches floating around but it seems nothing got into any release yet.
As I'm quite short on time atm I can't really look for these patches and
try to make a test package myself :\

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 878235] Re: System unusable after update

2011-11-12 Thread Eliah Kagan
@Ken Sharp
Annotating bug status changes with insults instead of explanations is not
constructive; plus, the message from Bryce Harrington was likely automated
(i.e., posted by a bot acting on his behalf). This is necessary because of the
high volume of bug reports, many of which are duplicates or which document
conditions that are ultimately revealed not really to be bugs (or to be bugs,
but in different software from the software against which they are reported).

One of the reasons not explaining your status changes is bad is because
others might think they are incorrect and revert them...which is what I
am doing right now. When a bug appears after an update, it is usually
caused by changes to the software, which would also have made it into
the subsequent release. If the bug is not in the subsequent release,
then additional changes have likely eliminated it, and then those
changes can be used as a basis for fixing it in the earlier release
(i.e., the changes in the later release can be *backported* to the
earlier release). If the bug *is* in the subsequent release, then
efforts to fix it must focus on multiple releases, including (probably)
the development release, so as to avoid future releases shipping with
the bug.

You are the only person who has indicated that you are affected by this
bug. Therefore, any troubleshooting or testing has to be done by you. If
you are unable or unwilling to try Oneiric, that's OK, but it does mean
that unless someone else comes along who is affected by the bug, that
the bug cannot very efficiently be worked on (if it can be worked on at
all). So if you're unable to do the necessary testing, then you can
simply leave this bug's status as Incomplete. After a while it will
expire (or be manually marked Invalid), but you can hope that someone
else who experiences it will come along and be able to provide the
information that you are unable or unwilling to provide. Sometimes that
happens.

Rather than upgrading to Oneiric (which very well might solve your
problem!), you might consider testing Oneiric from a live CD. This might
or might not provide the necessary information, but if you test from a
live CD and report your results and more information *is* required, then
a developer can always post again asking for additional information.
Therefore, if you test Oneiric from a live CD and report the results
here, please feel free to change the bug's status back from Incomplete
to New.

If you are looking for *help* with this problem specific to your
situation, then you should post a question about the problem. Working
with triagers and developers in this bug is still probably the most
effective way for you to get the problem solved, but if you are unable
or unwilling to perform the steps indicated by Bryce Harrington (or his
bot) and also unable or unwilling to test Oneiric from a live CD on the
affected machine, then you may still be able to receive meaningful
assistance in a question. (See https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu.) In
contrast, work done in bugs has the goal of fixing the problem for
everybody who might experience it (by figuring out what has to be
changed in the software, and then changing it), not specifically of
fixing it for you.

2011-11-12 Thread Brendan Donegan
I'm putting this in Xorg's park, even though it's probably not a bug as
such - just something unsupported. This certainly has nothing to do with
Ubuntu Friendly (you wouldn't have been able to even run our test suite
without anything on screen) so I've marked the bug there 'Invalid'.
Probably if you can SSH in then running 'apport-collect 889459' would be
helpful to diagnose your issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 889586] [NEW] Emachines e525 cant see if turned comp, cant change brightness

2011-11-12 Thread Kangarooo
Public bug reported:

This is since 11.04 and now im reporting it from 11.10
This bug doesnt exist in 10.04 but about 10.10 i dont know.
1. if i turn comp on- all is black so i cant see anything- it reacts if i make
volume up/down so i know its turned on
also cant change brightness
2. i was able to manage when changing brightness once up and once down right
before grub starts loading then all is seenable but still cant change brightess
so its max all the time.
If i press brightness shortcut fn+brightnessDown/Up indicator shows up in
screen but brightess doesnt changes.
One interesting thing if i fn+brightnessUp then i get symbol ± so 10 times
making brightness up would give me in text editor ±± even thought its
already to max and indicator also shows its max.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 782855] Re: missing pixels (horizontal lines) in font rendering

2011-11-12 Thread Akkana Peck
Not fixed here. I upgraded the Vaio to Oneiric yesterday and am seeing
font corruption after running it for about 2.5 hours this morning with
several suspends.

I'm also seeing the i915 module loaded in oneiric. I can't test what
module it used in natty (replaced that partition in the upgrade) but
Debian Squeeze, which also shows the problem, loads i915 just like
oneiric does.

I'm not convinced using lots of fonts makes a difference -- I've seen it
when I wasn't doing much more than rehearsing/presenting a talk, with
only a few fonts on the slides. I think running for a while is more
important (usually several hours, though once or twice I've seen it
sooner than that). Suspending may be relevant; I've never seen
corruption in a run where I didn't suspend at least once, but it's rare
that I have my laptop running that long without suspending.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 889459] Re: Nothing on screen on Tablet with 11.04 and 11.10, worked on Maverick

2011-11-12 Thread PEIGNOT Kévin
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 running-unity ubuntu

** Description changed:

I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on my tablet. It's the LDLC Janus one, a tablet
selled by the French seller LDLC without any OSes :
  http://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00118640.html

The installation works great (live CD is OK, including touch screen
(even if without multi-touch, maybe this is normal)). But when I reboot,
there is nothing on the screen, even if I Ctrl+Alt+F1 or F2... But I'm
sure the tablet boots in background : I can ear the login sound.

I tried with Ubuntu 11.04, exactly same problem. With Ubuntu 10.10, it
works, but without screen touch (that's why I choosed utouch to report
the bug even if I'm not sure that's the good attachment). I tried Fedora
15 and 16 it's OK (always without multitouch, but maybe it's normal).

- Thanks to this answer : http://askubuntu.com/questions/78400/how-to-
- report-a-crash-bug-with-nothing-on-screen I can connect via SSH to the
- tablet to launch dmesg or other. Can you say me what you need ?
