This is annoying when I want to configure network interfaces via
interfaces(5). Network Manager can do just a little simple
configuration. Why should this even be call by the developer a feature?

BIOS appears to choose the GF9100M rather than the GF9600M GS, so very
little 3D acceleration, though nvidia-settings knows both chips are

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 891571] [NEW] blank screen appears after a few seconds

2011-11-17 Thread vince
Public bug reported:

after upgrading from ubuntu 10.10 11.04 11.10 the laptop acer 5336 showed
the grubloader after a few seconds the screen went blank. ubuntu loaded normaly
when i conntected a external monitor was this one working. via screens i
'closed' the laptopscreen and turned it on again. now the laptopscreen as
image. i adjusted the grubfile: it looks like this:
GRUB_DEFAULT=0
#GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true
GRUB_TIMEOUT=10
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2 /dev/null || echo Debian`
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash
#GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=i915.modeset=0 quiet splash acpi_osi=Linux
#GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=acpi_osi=Linux

now the laptop startś up showing the grubmanager, a few seconds a purple screen
and turns to blank. When i hit the control keys i get the backlight on.
I tried several solutions, but nothing was a final solution.
In ubuntu 10.10 everything works fine.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 800140] Re: radeon: [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id

2011-11-17 Thread Doug Stanley
I have a similar but different problem. When I lock my screen and come
back, often times the screen will wake back up, but the dialog that
normally appears to unlock the screen never appears. Sometimes I can go
into virtual console and kill the screen saver daemon, and get back to
my desktop, but it doesn't always work.

This is with the open source driver, and it's been a problem for quite a
few releases for me. I'm trying the fireglx driver next, I seem to
remember having other problems with that one in the past, but I'm
desparate.

 Hey janning-h,

You filed this bug report against natty, but I see it's still open and
doesn't appear to have much activity recently. So, now that oneiric
is released and stable, this may be a good point for you to upgrade
and re-test if this issue is still present there.

If it's solved in the new release and you think it's worth backporting
the fix, please indicate that. Or if having the fix in the new release
is good enough, feel free to close out the bug (or let us know and we'll
 close it.)

If it's not solved, leave the bug report open. I can't promise we'll
get to it (we get way more bugs filed than we can usually get to), but
your testing and feedback can help out if and when we do.

I still see the problem on my system even with the same version of xserver-xorg

The workaround provided by Greg King (greg-james-king) works but if you close

the UI and it makes one CPU-core go to 100%).
Any fixes for this?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 770082] Re: missing 10-wacom.conf

2011-11-17 Thread Bruno Veilleux
Hi, I just wanted to say this just happened to me as well (and thanks
Favux as your posts on UbuntuForums allowed me to fix it). My tablet
worked on the first day after adding the PPA. xserver was only updated
(or downloaded at all?) at the next boot and everything had been working
as intended. Then today (first reboot after the update), I lost the
ability to use the stylus after tapping the pad until I moved it out of
range and brought it back. Both buttons were also completely inactive.

10-wacom.conf was indeed missing so I created one with the suggested
code and now it works again.

Looking at my sources, it seems I have Doctor Mo's PPA as well. Got the
link from Ubuntu's French doc at http://doc.ubuntu-
fr.org/wacom_bamboo_pen (2nd method). But since it worked perfectly
until xserver got added, I'd be tempted to place the fault on the
latter.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and a Bamboo Pen. Let me know if I can help and
thanks a million for your work. Hopefully this will help my wrist pain.

2011-11-17 Thread Rufus K.
This bug affects my machine too, running Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric. Video
card is nVidia 9600GT with recommended nVidia driver 280.13. The
launcher bar is corrupted after suspend and resume, as well as the top
panel. The top panel sometimes stays corrupted even after hovering the
mouse over it and after clicking menu items.

2011-11-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

was using 11.04 and did an upgrade to Oneric and all video playback is now blue
tinted and sound is fuzzy. If you pause the video then play, then pause then

Tried DVDs, digital videos and different types of video with no change, and is
blue in Movie player and VLC.
This DOES NOT affect youtube, streaming flash, Minitube.

BTW, your Arrandale DisplayPort issues are probably fixed in the
drm-intel-next tree, given that Keith has been working on these exact issues
recently.  You might want to give this kernel a try:

  git://people.freedesktop.org/~keithp/linux drm-intel-next

(AFAIK we don't have autobuilt packages from this, sorry)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 871471] Re: AntSpotlight screensaver causes xbuntu 11.10 beta to lock up on Averatec 3280

2011-11-17 Thread Peter Belew
This problem is definitely still happening on this Averatec laptop. I
reinstalled xscreensaver-gl, version 5.14-1ubuntu1, carefully set the
delay for the screensaver to 10 minutes, and selected AntSpotlite.
Within a few minutes the system completely locked up. I had to shut the
system down with the power switch to continue.

After rebooting, I clicked on the xfce Settings Manager, selected the
Screensaver Icon, and quickly selected another screensaver to keep the
system from locking up again.

This is now the released version of xubuntu 11.10.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 891898] [NEW] Massively different touchpad acceleration in y than x, when two monitors connected in vertical orientation

2011-11-17 Thread Carey Underwood
Public bug reported:

When connecting an external monitor to my netbook, I have to use a
vertical orientation of screens in order to retain acceleration. In
this setup, I also use an external mouse and keyboard. They work fine.

The laptop's touchpad however becomes weird to use: vertical movement
is massively exaggerated. I'd say a given movement in the y dimension
will move the cursor about 3 times as far as the same movement
horizontally.

This makes it much more difficult to target window decorations, url
bars, and so forth (including the menu bar of the lower screen, which no
longer has a screen edge to act as a backstop for the cursor).

This started occurring some time in the last week or two, and I install
updates (including from -proposed) every week or so.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 891901] [NEW] package fglrx-amdcccle 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured

2011-11-17 Thread Adrian Vander Vaart
Public bug reported:

While upgrading from Ubuntu 8 to the 10, this was the error it gave me.
I know that I have a new graphics card, which is probably the problem.
Originally my graphics card was on the motherboard, but ever since I've
upgraded I've had graphics issues. To avoid the problem I only used the
windows side of the partition because it was easier to fix this driver
problem. I figured with the upgrade I could fix the problem. Guess not.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 764195] Re: laptop screen blacklight brightness always at 100% (even on battery), can't be lowered

2011-11-17 Thread Xiao-Long Chen
This bug still exists in Ubuntu 11.10 and will continue to exist in
future Ubuntu versions because, as far as I know, this is a bug in the
nVidia blob that only nVidia can fix.
