[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 868400] Re: Synaptics touchpad stops working
Apologies for being a little direct on the last post. I think that in many cases this bug might just be caused by those two syndaemon instances running, which would make sense as oneiric made the switch from lightdm to gdm, and this does not happen on my laptop if I use gdm (whoch does NOT start its own syndaemon instance). Of course, it is possible some people have the same bug behaviour with other causes. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 899669] Re: Screen Corruption and crash after Gnome Shell login
I found out that when this bug appears, what's actually happens is that there is a console hiding behind the GUI. When I type anything, then what I am actually typing is an input into the console. So for instance, when these corruptions appear, and I type the letter r (without pressing ALT-F2 first), it will restart Gnome Shell. It's a bit hard to describe, but it's basically a mixture between GUI and command prompt. The GUI is there, but the command prompt is there and working, manifesting as the corruption. I don't know how to turn off the GUI to see the actual console, unfortunately. CTRL-ALT-F1 etc. only take me to other workspaces. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/899669 Title: Screen Corruption and crash after Gnome Shell login To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/899669/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I can confirm that too. I'm using natty on ThinkPad T42 with 1GiB mem and Radeon 7500. I run modified Ubuntu classic session with compiz. After startup ubuntu uses 150MiB mem, but after 1h it starts swapping because all RAM is used. Also closing and opening windows jumps memory usage up, and also closing application does not reduce memory usage. xorg uses only 40MiB memory, and there is not any visible apps which have over 50MiB RAM usage. About after 2h computer is unusable. 150 processes and 900MiB on 11.04 when my server runs still 9.10 and over 300 process is running 24/7, only using 400MiB. This memory bug makes 11.04 unusably. But hopefully that's not what you meant. :) So long as bug 576648 gets updated with all fixes and status updates then it's probably OK to keep this duplicate separate... (?) I strongly suggest fixing lucid as soon as precise is fixed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 433142] Re: xf86-video-geode: 800x480 and 1024x600 Panel support is broken
Basically, the short answer to laptop support with the Geode X driver seems to be that it needs a custom xorg.conf for each laptop, since it cannot probe the display for ideal size. Upstream developers have now documented this fact and provided command examples for calculating display modes along with a sample xorg.conf that shows how the command's result can be used. This will be included in xf86-video-geode 2.11.13 to be released shortly. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-geode (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress = Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-geode in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/433142 Title: xf86-video-geode: 800x480 and 1024x600 Panel support is broken To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-geode/+bug/433142/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 899054] Re: nvidia-173 kernel module failed to build in Precise (Unable to determine the target kernel version - like bug 576648)
Oh I certainly do think that new bugs are more important than old ones, but no that's not what I meant. What I meant is that it looks like the instance of this build failure in precise may be due to something different than what's causing it in lucid. Because these build failures apparently weren't happening in oneiric (even though jockey bug #897681 was), I have a suspicion it's a recent regression, possibly kernel-version-specific. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/899054 Title: nvidia-173 kernel module failed to build in Precise (Unable to determine the target kernel version - like bug 576648) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-173/+bug/899054/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
