[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 898963] Re: Desktop performance (2d) much worse than expected.

I believe it to not be a problem with Unity, if radeon driver does not
work for you should use fglrx.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 868400] Re: Synaptics touchpad stops working

2011-12-06 Thread sven
Apologies for being a little direct on the last post.

I think that in many cases this bug might just be caused by those two
syndaemon instances running, which would make sense as oneiric made the
switch from lightdm to gdm, and this does not happen on my laptop if I
use gdm (whoch does NOT start its own syndaemon instance).

Of course, it is possible some people have the same bug behaviour with
other causes.

Regards
Sven

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 899669] Re: Screen Corruption and crash after Gnome Shell login

2011-12-06 Thread The Bright Side
I found out that when this bug appears, what's actually happens is that
there is a console hiding behind the GUI. When I type anything, then
what I am actually typing is an input into the console.

So for instance, when these corruptions appear, and I type the letter
r (without pressing ALT-F2 first), it will restart Gnome Shell.

It's a bit hard to describe, but it's basically a mixture between GUI
and command prompt. The GUI is there, but the command prompt is there
and working, manifesting as the corruption.

I don't know how to turn off the GUI to see the actual console,
unfortunately. CTRL-ALT-F1 etc. only take me to other workspaces.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 608917] Re: Please put Provides fields mimicking Debian packages

2011-12-06 Thread Tomasz Rybak
Would it not make more sense to have
Package: boinc-amd-opencl
Depends: ${misc:Depends}, boinc, opencl-icd

This way you could have any OpenCL implementation, and from my
experiments any OpenCL library can be used (although best compile with
AMD OpenCL).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 900795] [NEW] Intel driver reports hung GPU und disables acceleration

2011-12-06 Thread Rüdiger Kupper
Public bug reported:

Hardware info: product: 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated
Graphics Device

I get no 3d acceleration with the intel driver. Cheking the logs I see that the
driver reproducibly reports a hung GPU and disables acceleration.
The log file asks me to get the output of dmes and the debugfs error_state
file, which I attach below.
This is not a random lockup, which is often reported, but it happens *every
time*.

In addition, I randomly experience X freezes, even with acceleration
disabled.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763370] Re: xorg memory leak

2011-12-06 Thread Henri Keinonen
I can confirm that too. I'm using natty on ThinkPad T42 with 1GiB mem
and Radeon 7500. I run modified Ubuntu classic session with compiz.
After startup ubuntu uses 150MiB mem, but after 1h it starts swapping
because all RAM is used. Also closing and opening windows jumps memory
usage up, and also closing application does not reduce memory usage.
xorg uses only 40MiB memory, and there is not any visible apps which
have over 50MiB RAM usage. About after 2h computer is unusable.

150 processes and 900MiB on 11.04 when my server runs still 9.10 and over 300
process is running 24/7, only using 400MiB.
This memory bug makes 11.04 unusably.

Gnome terminal, gnome-panel, nautilus,pulseaudio and indicator-applet
are also using big amount of virtual memory, but they sticks in under
10MiB RAM.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 892544] Re: Unity slow after resume from suspend

2011-12-06 Thread Mario
With your ppa suspend resume has greatly improved, but not going as smooth as
in 11.04, very noticeable when displaying (Super - s) Mode Expo

I have checked with glxspheres64 in 11.04 and also get 32 FPS, but in
11.04 everything goes very smooth

I'm not sure, but I believe that unity in 11.10 when you turn on the
system everything goes very smooth, but after a while gives the
impression that the FPS decreases, this does not happen in either Gnome
Shell or Unity 2D.

Since I got back from vacation, I've been running the wider of the two
monitors solo using the VGA input. It worked fine for a little bit, but
the last few days I've had about one crash per day where it blacks in
exactly the same fashion as before. Often it happens when I'm listening
to a podcast in banshee (some of which are video podcasts) and develop
web applications with Firefox and gEdit.

Thanks for looking into this Sven. On my system, there is only one
instance of syndaemon open when the touchpad starts acting up, so this
does not appear to be the cause for me. Sven, do you experience erratic

2011-12-06 Thread sven
do you experience erratic mouse behavior after the pointer unfreezes,

no, mouse is fine always

and does synclient TouchpadOff=0 work for you?

well, it does, though I did not check if the freeze reoccurs after some
time, or if it is viable as a workaround for the complete session.

2011-12-06 Thread Thucydides411
Do other people for whom synclient TouchpadOff=0 works have multiple
instances of syndaemon running? It would be useful to see if this is
related to the difference between systems that experience erratic mouse
behavior and those which don't. Currently, it seems that we have two
different types of bug behavior among subscribers to this report, and
now at least two root causes.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 608917] Re: Please put Provides fields mimicking Debian packages

2011-12-06 Thread Steffen Möller
Hm. Maybe. I thought that this way it would be even easier for someone
to know what to pick. I would rather add another boinc-nvidia-opencl
package at the very moment. And: for anyone with a working set of
dependencies the regular boinc package is already sufficient.

I admit not to have completely grasped the role of OpenCL with Nvidia
hardware, yet.

Should nvidia drivers be disabled when updating? Is there a way to turn
off accelerated graphics otherwise? I know how to disable twinview, so
i'll try that next time.. Also, one monitor was VGA and the other DVI -
are there successful installs with accelerated graphics and twinview?

I think I might also be seeing this (or a similar) bug

I also occasionally get logged out because Xorg crashes and then
automatically restarts.

Most of the time so far it has been when coming out of suspend-to-ram,
but today it has also happened after trying to start an image with eog.
I haven't found a way to reproduce it yet.

I am running Ubuntu 10.10 64bit on a Macbook 4.1, graphics card is a

I am using gnome-classic as the window manager.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 892544] Re: Unity slow after resume from suspend

2011-12-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Is the low frame rate only after resume or does the frame rate degrade
even when you have never suspended?

Also, please try doing a system update because I think your issue with
expo slowing down was fixed in version vv3 in my PPA...

compiz (1:0.9.6+bzr20110929-0ubuntu6vv4) oneiric; urgency=low

  * Fix timer scheduling priority. It was set too high, which starved compiz'
own event loop of X and GLX events. This caused all sorts of tearing,
stuttering and hang-related bugs.

 -- Daniel van Vugt vanv...@gmail.com Mon, 05 Dec 2011 15:34:10 +0800

compiz (1:0.9.6+bzr20110929-0ubuntu6vv3) oneiric; urgency=low

  * Improved the frame timing fix (previous commit) to also avoid excessive
lag when doing fullscreen repaints. This means you can once again use the
compiz workaround Force full screen redraws (buffer swap) on repaint if
you want.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 899054] Re: nvidia-173 kernel module failed to build in Precise (Unable to determine the target kernel version - like bug 576648)

2011-12-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I don't think a bug being old makes it any less important. But hopefully
that's not what you meant. :)

So long as bug 576648 gets updated with all fixes and status updates
then it's probably OK to keep this duplicate separate... (?)

I strongly suggest fixing lucid as soon as precise is fixed. Because
lucid is where the vast majority of duplicates are coming from.

+ [sandybridge] Graphics tearing when playing video

** Description changed:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 433142] Re: xf86-video-geode: 800x480 and 1024x600 Panel support is broken

2011-12-06 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
Basically, the short answer to laptop support with the Geode X driver
seems to be that it needs a custom xorg.conf for each laptop, since it
cannot probe the display for ideal size.

Upstream developers have now documented this fact and provided command
examples for calculating display modes along with a sample xorg.conf
that shows how the command's result can be used. This will be included
in xf86-video-geode 2.11.13 to be released shortly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 899054] Re: nvidia-173 kernel module failed to build in Precise (Unable to determine the target kernel version - like bug 576648)

2011-12-06 Thread Bryce Harrington
Oh I certainly do think that new bugs are more important than old ones,
but no that's not what I meant.

What I meant is that it looks like the instance of this build failure in
precise may be due to something different than what's causing it in
lucid. Because these build failures apparently weren't happening in
oneiric (even though jockey bug #897681 was), I have a suspicion it's a
recent regression, possibly kernel-version-specific.

I ave a Fujitsu P1610. The laptop works perfectly well, Is just the
touchscreen that does not work at all. I had WinXp Pro before installing
Ubuntu 11.04 and the touchscreen was working. I think that it needs a
set of drivers to make it work. I'm relatively new to Ubuntu but I love
it. Thanks.
