[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 124406] Re: Keyboard keys get stuck and repeat

2011-12-16 Thread Wojciech Musial
I also experienced the exact symptoms of the bug, combined with a bunch
of other problems (sound crackling, system freezes).

This workaround fixed it all together for me (ubuntu 10.04, 2.6.32-36-generic):
http://jannepikkarainen.fi/clocksourcejiffies-ja-ubuntu-910-hidastumiset-pois

Quote:
---
 in /etc/default/grub change line

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash

to be

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash clocksource=jiffies

Then enter sudo update-grub and reboot. See if your problems are gone.
---

Unfortunately that triggered another bug: hd-audio0 eats up 20% of my
cpu, but that's another story.

Maybe, but hard to say since there isn't a stacktrace given there.

Sarvatt references upstream bug
http://www.spinics.net/lists/dri-devel/msg17211.html, which has a
stacktrace that does not appear to be the same stacktrace I got. Also,
they mentioned that fault occurs 1x/hr, whereas in my case the crash
occurred only one time over several dozen hour's use.

So, while I agree these sound suspiciously similar, I don't think there
is solid enough evidence to prove they're dupes yet.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 720096] Re: No video output via HDMI on Nvidia 8200M

2011-12-16 Thread bruno
I hve the exact same problem in both 10.04 32bit and 11.10 64bit. I also
own a Compaq Presario with a NVidia Geforce 8200M.

A detail which may be of some importance, according to the driver search
on the NVIDIA website, there aren't any drivers for the 8200M. The linux
drivers which seem to work perfectly (apart from the HDMI situation) are
made for 8200M - and for pretty much any other NVIDIA graphic card.

I have no idea why this is, or if there's any way one might complain.

So, yes, same here, HDMI port sends no signal under ubuntu.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763005] Re: Compiz's Sync to Vblank makes display stutter/slow with some drivers (like fglrx)

2011-12-16 Thread Bucic
Still no luck. I've updated from both of the PPA's - for Compiz and for Unity.
Compiz seems to be vv7 already:
Package: compiz
Versions:
1:0.9.6+bzr20110929-0ubuntu6vv7
(/var/lib/apt/lists/ppa.launchpad.net_vanvugt_compiz_ubuntu_dists_oneiric_main_binary-amd64_Packages)
 (/var/lib/dpkg/status)

My settings (just in case):
Sync to VBlank - OFF
AMD: Tear-free - ON
AMD: Wait for vertical - Always

Please note that animations like Win+W, minimizing/maximizing and all
alike are perfectly smooth. Only dragging windows seems to cause
stuttering. And the stuttering occurs after a second or few, not right
away.

Super Meat Boy will either give an error MojoShader compile failed or

All of these problems go away if Mesa is compiled with the --disable-asm
flag.

Both the error message from the game and the backtraces from the
segfaults point to the games themselves so I'm not sure if this is Mesa
exposing a bug in the games or the other way around. I did however
notice that Fedora explicitly makes use of the flag to turn the assembly
off with this comment i do not have words for how much the assembly
dispatch code infuriates me.

A bug report for the games is filed here:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 773471] Re: No brightness on LCD monitor (Acer Aspire 5732Z)

2011-12-16 Thread Kamal Mostafa
I have prepared a PPA test kernel for Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric) including a
patch which might address the inverted backlight brightness or
backlight off at startup problems, for laptops with a Intel GPU's
only:

https://launchpad.net/~kamalmostafa/+archive/inverted-backlight

Feedback to this bug report will be appreciated.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 828761] Re: Resume from suspend takes much more time when nvidia-current driver is installed.

2011-12-16 Thread martin
I experience this issue as well on my desktop computer (shuttle xpc) since I
recently installed a gfx-card with two digital outputs for a xinerama-setup and
activated the nvidia-current driver. Before that I was using the internal
graphics of my core i5 where everything worked fine (except that I couldn't
connect my second monitor).
Now with the nvidia-driver, waking-up from suspend takes 30s. First, the
screen is black showing only the mouse pointer, which freezes repeatedly. Next,
the mouse moves normally but it still takes several seconds until the
locking-screen comes up. After unlocking, the unity bar shows colored noise
until I hover over it which redraws it to its normal state.

Hope this will get fixed soon.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 905505] [NEW] Page fault in drm while using Unity's software center overlay

2011-12-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
Public bug reported:

Was attempting to install Evolution to try to repro bug 874146. Opened
Unity's software installer, clicked on the Add Software button, typed in
Evolution and clicked the Evolution icon that appeared. Suddenly X
crashed and the lightdm login screen appeared. I had dmesg open in
another window during this time and saw this appear in the dmesg output
at the moment X crashed:

[ 163.755960] [drm:i915_gem_object_unbind] *ERROR* Attempting to unbind
pinned buffer

Next, I re-logged in. The password was accepted and the screen cleared,
showing the standard purple background, except it was tiled 2x2. At
that point it froze up. The following got printed to dmesg in my ssh
session. I then filed the bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 868400] Re: Synaptics touchpad stops working

2011-12-16 Thread Karl
I seem to have inadvertently narrowed down the cause of my bug. The
problem is with Unity, not the synaptic driver. I installed a clean and
updated copy of 11.10 and still have the same touchpad malfunction with
Unity. The touchpad malfunction DOES NOT happen under GNOME 3. I've
logged several hours of touchpad usage with GNOME 3 without incident.
If I switch back to Unity, it takes only a few minutes for me to lose
control of the system and end up forcibly restarting from another tty.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 905505] Re: Page fault in drm while using Unity's software center overlay

2011-12-16 Thread Brad Figg
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during
any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all.
Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request
further testing. This is such a request.

We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel
than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test
again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still
exists or not.

You can update to the latest development kernel by simply running the
following commands in a terminal window:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to
Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from

Was attempting to install Evolution to try to repro bug 874146. Opened
- Unity's software installer, clicked on the Add Software button, typed in
- Evolution and clicked the Evolution icon that appeared. Suddenly X
- crashed and the lightdm login screen appeared. I had dmesg open in
- another window during this time and saw this appear in the dmesg output
- at the moment X crashed:
+ Unity's software scope overlay, clicked on the More Software button,
+ typed in Evolution and clicked the Evolution Mail and Calendar icon that

Next, I re-logged in. The password was accepted and the screen cleared,
showing the standard purple background, except it was tiled 2x2. At
that point it froze up. The following got printed to dmesg in my ssh
session. I then filed the bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 905074] [NEW] corrupted display on dual monitors

2011-12-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I am getting intermittent corruption on one of my monitors using
XScreenSaver.

I am running a fully updated Ubuntu 11.10 (64bit) installation on a dual
core AMD proc

The NVidia settings too reports that I am using driver #280.13 and XScerver
Version 1.10.4, and I am using an older NVideo card:
  *-display
   description: VGA compatible controller
   product: G73 [GeForce 7600 GT]
   vendor: nVidia Corporation
   physical id: 0
   bus info: pci@:01:00.0
   version: a1
   width: 64 bits
   clock: 33MHz
capabilities: pm msi pciexpress vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom
   configuration: driver=nvidia latency=0
   resources: irq:18 memory:fa00-faff memory:d000-dfff
memory:fb00-fbff ioport:ef00(size=128) memory:fc00-fc01

Corruption can occur on either one of the monitors, but I have not yet
seen it in both at the same time. Once corruption occurs, XScreenSaver
does not recover the monitor.

I have not been able to totally isolate the conditions, but it seems to
occur more often if one of the monitors is displaying a maximized
window.

What other info might be helpful?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 905074] Re: corrupted display on dual monitors

2011-12-16 Thread Tormod Volden
This has most likely nothing to do with the xscreensaver application,
but with your proprietary nvidia drivers. I am not sure where those bugs
go (is there a meta package for those, or still dozens of different
nvidia packages?) so I'll redirect this to the xorg meta package.

** Package changed: xscreensaver (Ubuntu) = xorg (Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

- corrupted display on dual monitors
+ [nvidia] corrupted display on dual monitors

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 873718] Re: External monitor via KVM switch flashes all the time

2011-12-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi ml,

Does this also occur in Ubuntu Precise (12.04)?

If you don't want to install Ubuntu Precise, it should be sufficient to
boot a Live USB session, configure the monitors, and see if it is
working properly now.You can get the current Live USB desktop image
at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and create a USB boot
drive using usb-creator.

I take it that with the monitor directly connected, without the KVM,
that it works fine?

This bug sounds familiar, I think we had one where the KVM was blocking
some/all of the EDID in such a way that the kernel kept re-probing to
determine the resolution. Something like that. But your log files
don't give any indication whether or not that's what's going on here.

In addition to testing on precise, one other thing that might help
reveal some clues would be to turn on drm debugging. Run `sudo
xdiagnose`, mark the first checkbox, Apply, and reboot. Now after
reproducing the issue collect the output of `dmesg`, which will have
more detailed debugging info for us. If my theory is correct, there
should be a repeating output in there relating to monitor probing, with
the same periodicity as you're noting with the effect.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 889212] Re: LibreOffice window resize corruption

2011-12-16 Thread Tom Weber
I see exactly the same behaviour on xubuntu 11.10 64bit
on a desktop machine (Sandy Bridge w/ integrated GPU) and
on a notebook (core2duo based).
both using the intel xorg driver.

So I don't think that's (only) nvidia related.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 868354] Re: Duplicate indicators bar and desktops with overlapped screens

2011-12-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
Allowing two displays to overlap and show different sized viewports of
the same desktop is totally permissible by X11 with RANDR. I can't
think of any particular use case where you'd *want* it set up that way,
but technically it is a permissible configuration as far as X is
concerned. It is more of a question of policy.

While I think I can reproduce it under some circumstances with xrandr,
I'm not sure that means we should implement the policy at the X level,
or if it just means we have two config tools that need the same fix.

** Description changed:

Using 4.22 in Oneiric with a dell laptop docked lid closed and with the
internal screen enabled and placed under the external one in the

close and I can reproduce it manually by dnding the monitor and then
enabling it), the indicators are duplicated

+ [Test Case - xrandr]
+ 1. With a laptop and external monitor of dissimilar maximum resolutions
+ 2. Set to extended (left/right or above/below) and each display at maximum
resolution
+ 3. xrandr --output LVDS1 --off
+ 4. xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto
+ Is: Both displays show the same workspace as if mirrored, except the
external display shows an extra main bar and background, at the laptop's
resolution.
+ Should be: Both displays shown extended as configured in step #2.
+
+ [Test Case - gnome-display-properties]
+ 1. With a laptop and external monitor of dissimilar maximum resolutions
+ 2. Launch gnome-display-properties (from Unity apps scope search for
screens)
+ 3. Set to extended (left/right or above/below) and each display at maximum
resolution
+ 4. Disable the laptop screen; Apply
+ 5. Drag the disabled laptop screen to overlay the enabled external screen in

+ Is: Both displays show the same workspace as if mirrored, except the
external display shows an extra main bar and background, at the laptop's

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 905591] [NEW] X/drm Lockup when trying to configure one display centered above another

2011-12-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
Public bug reported:

I was working on diagnosing bug 868354 (Duplicate indicators bar and
desktops with overlapped screens) by running the gnome-display-
properties applet on a laptop with external monitor. I was
enabling/disabling the displays and moving them around to different
orientations.

At one point I (roughly) centered the smaller laptop display above the
external monitor, hit apply, and the system locked up. dmesg shows:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 868354] Re: Duplicate indicators bar and desktops with overlapped screens

2011-12-16 Thread Treviño
FYI I've not worked on this until now since the problem is not only on the
panel, but also on nautilus.
So we should define how to solve this, as this is just a special mirror case.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 905591] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 00000018 when trying to configure one display centered above another

2011-12-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Summary changed:

- X/drm Lockup when trying to configure one display centered above another
+ BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0018 when
trying to configure one display centered above another

** Description changed:

I was working on diagnosing bug 868354 (Duplicate indicators bar and
desktops with overlapped screens) by running the gnome-display-
properties applet on a laptop with external monitor. I was
enabling/disabling the displays and moving them around to different
  orientations.

At one point I (roughly) centered the smaller laptop display above the
external monitor, hit apply, and the system locked up. dmesg shows:
