[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 576648] Re: package nvidia-* failed to install/upgrade: nvidia-* kernel module failed to build (Unable to determine the target kernel version.)

2011-12-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It seems all the recent duplicates from precise (alpha-1) are just from
nvidia-173. No problem with nvidia-current in precise. So I'm fixing
nvidia-173 for precise today...

** Description changed:

- TEST CASE:

+ sudo apt-get install nvidia-173
+
+
+ TEST CASE FOR 10.04:

Starting with a fresh Ubuntu 10.04.3 installation...

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kernel-ppa/ppa
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get install linux-image-3.0.0-8-generic
  sudo apt-get install linux-headers-3.0.0-8-generic
  # or should that be: install linux-lts-backport-oneiric ?
  # REBOOT
  sudo apt-get install nvidia-173
  # The above command fails with an error.

  # Check the exact error:
  cat /var/lib/dkms/nvidia-173/*/build/make.log

+
  WORKAROUND:

Revert back to the kernel version that your Ubuntu release came with:
- Ubuntu 10.04 -- kernel 2.6.32
- Ubuntu 11.04 -- kernel 2.6.38

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 909061] [NEW] [sandybridge-m-gt2+] False GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x7a000002

2011-12-27 Thread Philipp Kaluza
Public bug reported:

This was diagnosed by my system. Not sure what to make of it.
Sometimes the screen just remains black after mode changes etc., and I have to
force a reboot.
rc6 is disabled. This is with kernel 3.0 . Some 3.1 package allowed me to boot
with rc6 enabled, 3.2 doesn't switch on the LCD screen at all, regardless of
rc6 and noapic commandlines.

Let me know if I can help to diagnose this stuff further.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 92599] Re: Incorrect (low/stuttering) refresh rate with NVIDIA driver

2011-12-27 Thread cicoandcico
Daniel, I don't know what are the changes between version vv9 and vv10
of compiz, but now things have improved considerably. Most notably, I
can't tell the difference with or without Twinview. I tested also with
several suspend/resume cycles and I saw no performance slowdowns.

Finally, also bug #888039 seems now fixed to me. Is it possible?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 908103] [NEW] gma500 psb-gfx resolution overflow in consoles

2011-12-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I pressed Alt+Ctrl+F[1-6], enter the tty console; I executed the
commad ls -al and I found that there're some lines I can't see, then I
pressed Ctrl+l to clear the contexts but the screen didn't really
cleared as expected.

My video card is the gma500 with a native 1024*600 resolution, and I
use ubuntu12.04 precise with the psb_gfx driver enabled.

It acts as if the OS(psb_gfx dirver) treat my screen as 1024*768
resolution, which caused a view overflow.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 843256] Re: any window should be able to fit into a netbook screen, if not it should be scrollable at least

2011-12-27 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
no change has been made, at least not to windows I mention in the bug
description. here is a screenshot.

btw, did I mention that Compiz config settings manager's window is
unpleasantly jumping up and down when clicking on it, trying to fill
that little space.

I think this should be of highest priority and a solution similar to
WinXP's is very professional.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 92599] Re: Incorrect (low/stuttering) refresh rate with NVIDIA driver

2011-12-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I'm not sure about bug 888039 because it's hard to reproduce (for me)
and hard to distinguish between other similar performance bugs. I think
it's likely half the people subscribed to that bug were actually seeing
different bugs, some of which are now fixed.

Versions vv9 and vv10 only changed the Move plugin to make moving
windows faster and more responsive (bug 764330). But it's excellent that
ppa:vanvugt/compiz now contains enough fixes that things have improved
considerably for you. I hope all the fixes in there get approved in time
to go into Ubuntu 12.04.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 909176] [NEW] black screen after logout using gnome 3.2 lightdm

2011-12-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Release: Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric
User Interface: gnome 3.2
loginmanager: lightdm

After logout from gnome-shell the system keeps running, while the screen is
totally black.
What i expected to happen is seeing the lightdm login shell.
Entering the password is logging in the user again, but there is no visual
response to entering the password and pressing enter, before the desktop
appears.

Gnome Shell has been installed using the Ubuntu Software Center. The
whole login works as designed when booting the system.

The background-image used in lightdm has been changed using the configuration
file,
so that it is using a different image form another path.
After booting the image is shown properly as background of the login manager.
The image does not seem to be a problem, as other users report the same
behaviour, using standard settings in lightdm.

I am not connected to the person reporting the same problem here:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/85788/ubuntu-11-10-with-gnome-shell-does-not-logout-properly
but the behaviour described is the same.

I am using a thinkpad x220 with intel sandy-bridge internal graphics.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 909176] Re: black screen after logout using gnome 3.2 lightdm

2011-12-27 Thread Phil. V
Thanks for your bug report. I gave this a shot on my x220. Upon logging
out, my screen is black for maybe half a second, but redraws after that,
which might just be normal behavior. I don't have a custom image for my
login screen, in the event that ends up being relevant. In any case I'll
open a task against xorg. Could you please run apport-collect 909176
in a terminal? That'll add some detailed system information to this bug
report
