[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 874241] Re: Wrong resolutions in lightdm login screen when using external monitor connected to laptop

2012-01-11 Thread Bryce Harrington
The way the login display manager should look is now defined in the
Design team multimonitor specification. Rather than mirroring (which
causes this bug) lightdm needs to set the screens to extended, with the
primary screen showing the login and the secondary showing a logo.

It probably makes sense to leave the X to the upstream default of
mirroring, and tie in with the settings daemon stuff. We can evaluate
if a more direct link to libxrandr-utils might make sense later.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 914713] [NEW] virtual display memory too small, primary display resolution incorrect

2012-01-11 Thread Alex Liam Kempster
Public bug reported:

Occurs when adding a secondary display to the system. Both screens have
been set to there standard resolution. When applying changes the
following error message occurs:

required virtual size does not fit available size: requested=(3600,
1080), minimum=(320, 200), maximum=(1920, 1920)

I am looking to create an extended desktop. The system does not pick up
on all graphics cards properly, i.e. does not recognise the two
secondary graphics cards. It seems like the system is attempting to
create one screen width wise and two screens vertically based on the
size of the requested display compared to the actual requested size.

The main monitor should be 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz and the second monitor
that is being added should be 1280x1024 @ 60Hz.

The primary monitor, with secondary turned off looses 45mm of screen
space widthwise and 26mm screen space vertically. It is centered the
display is 24 inches from bottom left to top right.

It would be first a benefit to get the secondary display working
regardless of display size.

When reducing resolution of the secondary display as much as possible it
will accept the changes but display the secondary desktop in a small box
embedded into the desktop on the primary monitor.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 914713] Re: virtual display memory too small, primary display resolution incorrect

2012-01-11 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Alex,

You will need to use AMD's configuration tool for setting up the config
you want, because it will require using Xinerama. The GNOME display
properties tool only works for displays connected to a single video
card; it can't do multi-card spanning.

If you need technical support for setting this up, the kind folks at
askubuntu.com should be able to help guide you through using amdcccle to
create your configuration.

The displays are both connected to the same graphics card. The

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 914787] Re: apache2 will not build on install / synaptic will not load

2012-01-11 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System -
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 752940] Re: GPU lockup (ESR: 0x00000010 PGTBL_ER: 0x00000010) - i915 unused but triggers apport on multi-gpu system unless blacklisted

2012-01-11 Thread Bryce Harrington
In Precise we're noticing that these fake gpu hangs don't occur like
they did in oneiric. I suspect those fixes address this case as well.
Reopen if you can reproduce this under precise.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 908542] Re: Switching outputdevice awfully slow and sometimes leads to unusable displays

Side note: when using Mint 12 (no Unity there) on my W510 it works, so
it's a IMHO strictly Unity related.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 844307] Re: No HDMI support.

2012-01-11 Thread mediterran81
reported from Luis de Costa:

There is a way to get the HDMI working perfectly, and use the Nvidia at
is highest speed with the nvidia drivers without the use of bumblebee...

The problem is that it is a very simple method, that requires to not use
the laptopt monitor when using the HDMI.

You just need to create the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf

and introduce this :

Section Device
   Identifier Device1
   Driver nouveau
   BusID PCI:05:00:0
EndSection

This one uses the nouveau drivers, you need to sudo modprobe nouveau
before using this...

For the nvidia drivers :

Section Device
   Identifier Device1
   Driver nvidia
   VendorName NVIDIA Corporation
   BusID PCI:05:00:0
   Option NoLogo true
   Option UseEDID false
   Option ConnectedMonitor DFP
EndSection

I hope this helps somewone... With this tecnique I was able to play a
flash video in 1080p in full screen on my TV using the HDMI !

Now I think that a little tweak with bumblebee, and we can have the
booth working at the same time ^^

I also removed all power sources after install your alps-mouse package.

I attach lsinput, xinput list, input-events and dmesg output.

This does not happen reproducibly. It hasn't happened in the last week, but it
did happen 4 or 5 times.
My monitor does not have a USB hub.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 914836] Re: package xdiagnose 2.0 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 101

2012-01-11 Thread Jason Conti
That really isn't a fix, replacing the code with /tmp 2.1, since now
you are copying all those files directly to /tmp, tarring up the whole
thing and then trying to delete /tmp at the end. This is not a good
idea.

Just use tempfile.mkdtemp.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 909926] Re: corrupted graphics on unity login

2012-01-11 Thread Marcelo Ruiz
Adding nomodeset to the kernel boot options allowed me to see Unity.
From there I installed nvidia-current and rebooted. Now instead of having the
corrupted graphics after the splash screen, I get a blank screen and the
computer freezes.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 394006] Re: external display not recognized

2012-01-11 Thread CraigMcW
Thank you sir! Unfortunately, this was a very long time ago and I don't
even have that laptop any longer.

Only recently (within 2 weeks) has there been an AMD driver that allows
my HP Pavillion system to run dual monitors with xinerama under 11.10.

I really hope Ubuntu solves the video issue soon. Nowadays many users
are accustomed to using multiple monitors.

The reason why it doesn't automatically recognize it is that you're
using the NVIDIA proprietary driver, which needs further configuration
to enable dualhead.

  external display not recognized

Status in “nvidia-graphics-drivers” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
When I first installed Ubuntu about 6 weeks ago, I plugged in an
external display and it was recognized and configured immediately.

Now, perhaps because of an automatic update, my laptop will not
recognize the display while running Ubuntu. (It does under Vista).

I have a 64 bit HP Pavillion dv9500 with a NVidia graphics card.

  This feature is sorely missed.
