[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 874241] Re: Wrong resolutions in lightdm login screen when using external monitor connected to laptop
The way the login display manager should look is now defined in the Design team multimonitor specification. Rather than mirroring (which causes this bug) lightdm needs to set the screens to extended, with the primary screen showing the login and the secondary showing a logo. It probably makes sense to leave the X to the upstream default of mirroring, and tie in with the settings daemon stuff. We can evaluate if a more direct link to libxrandr-utils might make sense later. ** Package changed: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) = unity-greeter (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/874241 Title: Wrong resolutions in lightdm login screen when using external monitor connected to laptop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-greeter/+bug/874241/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 914713] [NEW] virtual display memory too small, primary display resolution incorrect
Public bug reported: Occurs when adding a secondary display to the system. Both screens have been set to there standard resolution. When applying changes the following error message occurs: required virtual size does not fit available size: requested=(3600, 1080), minimum=(320, 200), maximum=(1920, 1920) I am looking to create an extended desktop. The system does not pick up on all graphics cards properly, i.e. does not recognise the two secondary graphics cards. It seems like the system is attempting to create one screen width wise and two screens vertically based on the size of the requested display compared to the actual requested size. The main monitor should be 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz and the second monitor that is being added should be 1280x1024 @ 60Hz. The primary monitor, with secondary turned off looses 45mm of screen space widthwise and 26mm screen space vertically. It is centered the display is 24 inches from bottom left to top right. It would be first a benefit to get the secondary display working regardless of display size. When reducing resolution of the secondary display as much as possible it will accept the changes but display the secondary desktop in a small box embedded into the desktop on the primary monitor. The GNOME display properties tool only works for displays connected to a single video card; it can't do multi-card spanning. Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it. Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally, in the report please include: 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System - About Ubuntu. 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by checking in Synaptic. 3) What happened and what you expected to happen. The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures . That really isn't a fix, replacing the code with /tmp 2.1, since now you are copying all those files directly to /tmp, tarring up the whole thing and then trying to delete /tmp at the end. This is not a good idea. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 909926] Re: corrupted graphics on unity login
Adding nomodeset to the kernel boot options allowed me to see Unity. From there I installed nvidia-current and rebooted. Now instead of having the corrupted graphics after the splash screen, I get a blank screen and the computer freezes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/909926 Title: corrupted graphics on unity login To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/909926/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 394006] Re: external display not recognized
Thank you sir! Unfortunately, this was a very long time ago and I don't even have that laptop any longer. Only recently (within 2 weeks) has there been an AMD driver that allows my HP Pavillion system to run dual monitors with xinerama under 11.10. I really hope Ubuntu solves the video issue soon. Nowadays many users are accustomed to using multiple monitors. -Original Message- From: boun...@canonical.com [mailto:boun...@canonical.com] On Behalf Of Timo Aaltonen Sent: Monday, January 09, 2012 4:29 PM To: craig.r.mcwilli...@gmail.com Subject: [Bug 394006] Re: external display not recognized The reason why it doesn't automatically recognize it is that you're using the NVIDIA proprietary driver, which needs further configuration to enable dualhead. ** Package changed: xserver-xorg-video-nv (Ubuntu) = nvidia-graphics- drivers (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/394006 Title: external display not recognized Status in “nvidia-graphics-drivers” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: When I first installed Ubuntu about 6 weeks ago, I plugged in an external display and it was recognized and configured immediately. Now, perhaps because of an automatic update, my laptop will not recognize the display while running Ubuntu. (It does under Vista). I have a 64 bit HP Pavillion dv9500 with a NVidia graphics card.
