[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 192508] Re: mouse keys to easy to accidently turn on

2012-01-22 Thread Timothy Arceri
** Summary changed:

- mouse keys turns on randomly
+ mouse keys to easy to accidently turn on

** Description changed:

I am using Hardy Heron and several times now I have tried to use my
number pad only to discover that they now move the mouse. I don't know
if there is a short cut key I am hitting on accident, but it is rather
annoying. Then sometimes when I disable mouse keys, the numlock becomes
switched so that the system thinks numlock is on when the light is off
  and vice-versa.
+
+ Update: the shortcut is: shift+num-lock

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 828761] Re: Resume from suspend takes much more time when nvidia-current driver is installed.

2012-01-22 Thread Lukasz Olszewski
Well it seems that it does but (for me at least) it happens much much less
often with gnome-shell than with Unity and as you said it recovers much more
smoothly. The difference is so big that I'm not even sure that it's the same
bug... But if it is then we're left only with nvidia-drivers issue since
gnome-shell doesn't use compiz...
BTW nerdy_kid: are you using lightdm or gdm?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 912992] Re: [snb-m-gt2+] Primary laptop display not working, external monitor works fine.

2012-01-22 Thread Bryce Harrington
I now need the 'noapic' flag in my boot options again.
Is this the same bug, or a different issue?

Dunno, but it's a quite interesting clue.
Thanks for copying your info upstream, hopefully it'll give them some specific
ideas.

Glad to hear that toggling the LVDS1 serves as a workaround. It also
suggests there may be a race condition going on here or something. I'm
curious what ratio of times it works, roughly? Like 10%? 50%? 75%?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 728745] Re: [nvidia, 7300, 7400] display freeze when using unity desktop

2012-01-22 Thread Ray Nichols
I've been using #145 but be aware that when the kernel changes you will need to
re-install your Nvidia driver. There is no clear message (on booting) when this
has happened but my system booted and stopped at a message:
Checking battery state ... [OK]

Re-install of the driver fixed the problem (the required side effect is
to rebuild the kernel module).

BTW If you ever need to stop X in Oneiric, to re-install this driver,
the service is now called lightdm.

When Ubuntu includes a driver greater than 275.43 it will be great to
avoid this faff.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 919985] [NEW] Middle-Mouse clicks executed several times

2012-01-22 Thread entonjackson
Public bug reported:

I'm using Precise Pangolin 64bit and since this version, when i do middle mouse
clicks, it's executed several times.
sometimes one click does 2, 3, or even 4 clicks.

I don't think this defect is generated by my mouse, because in oneiric (2 days
ago) there was no problem.
I have Microsoft Notebook Mouse 5000

I don't know, if this is affecting 32bit version of precise as well. And
i actually don't know if this is the right package (xserver-xorg-input-
evdev) to report this bug.

Steps to reproduce:

Text-Editor Example:
1. Mark some text somewhere
2. open text editor like gedit
3. press middle mouse inside gedit
4. text is pasted several times

Webbrowser Example:
1. Open chromium-browser
2. do a middle mouse click on a hyperlink
3. 2 or more tabs are opened for this link

Hi,

I have an Apple MacBook Pro 7,1 running Ubuntu 12.04 (same problem on
Ubuntu 11.10) with a UK keyboard layout. The layout has never been
correct with either English (UK, Macintosh) or English (UK Macintosh
International).

Under English (UK, Macintosh) for example:-

The 'section' key (next to numeric 1) gives me a backtick and tilde (non-shift
and shifted respectively).
The 'backtick/tilde' key (between z and shift) gives me greater-than and
less-than.

Under English (UK, Macintosh International) for example:-

The 'section' key responds correctly with section and plus/minus.
The tilde/backtick key gives me tilde and backtick (only if I press the key
then space) - I presume this is used on international keyboards for accenting
characters. The quote/double-quote key operates in the same way.

So it seems I want the _layout_ of the English (UK, Macintosh
International) but with the single-press-for-quotes-and-ticks that the
English (UK, Macintosh) layout has. Hope that makes sense.

Al.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 881046] Re: Panning in a virtual monitor is not possible after upgrade to Ubuntu 11.10

2012-01-22 Thread Ernesto Torresin
Personally, I don't like downgrading, and I cannot help you with that.
However, since and I miss a virtual monitor not because of the small size of my
monitor, but because I often have plenty of terminal windows open, I found a
satisfactory workaround with a better use of my desktops.
I installed the compizconfig-settings-manager, then run it, enabled the
Desktop Wall plugin, then selected in the Edge Flipping configuration tab
the Edge Flip pointer option, and I have a quick access to sibling workspaces.

When I run NVIDIA X Server Settings it tells me: You do not appear to be

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 660596] Re: Black screen after installing Nvidia drivers on 10.10

2012-01-22 Thread Adam Niedling
I forgot to mention that I have two graphic cards in this system which
might be the cause of the problem:

$ lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core
Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GF106 [GeForce GT 555M]
(rev a1)

Actually it's not 555M (I wish it was), only 540M.

I also found bug #643895 which is a similar problem.
In my Xorg.0.log I also have:

(EE) No devices detected.
Fatal server error:
no screens found

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 643895] Re: nvidia propietary driver fails to load X with geforce 310M

2012-01-22 Thread Adam Niedling
I have exactly the same problem with an Acer 5755G laptop: Ubuntu 11.10
x64, nVidia Geforce 540M, integrated Intel® HD Graphics 3000, nvidia-
current 280.13-0ubuntu6.

After running nvidia-xconfig X won't start anymore. In my Xorg.0.log I
also get:

(EE) No devices detected.
Fatal server error:
no screens found

Bug #660596 looks similar.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 179797] Re: intel GM965 (X3100) no TV-Out (S-Video)

2012-01-22 Thread Raylene Macgillivary
Also affects Ubuntu 12.04:

I have a Intel GM965 integrated video card and SVGA out is not working.
It does work with 10.04, all subsequent versions it no longer works.

The TV is detected, I can see the screen flicker while it is being
detected, and I can move the mouse to it, but the TV screen is black.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 912381] [NEW] Error ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode directly after installation

2012-01-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I installed Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop on my Dell XPS 1330 (Nvidia 8400M GS).
The Live CD session works great and installation was no problem. But
after the first reboot I get the error message: ubuntu is running in
low-graphics mode.

On the terminal I tried to install manually:
nvidia-173 nvidia-173-updates
or
nvidia-current nvidia-current-updates

But non of the two packages resolves my problem. So i tried to install the
nvidia driver with jockey-text.
$ jockey-text -c
$ jockey-text -u
$ jockey-text -a
$ jockey-text -C
Additional Drivers
Downloading and installing driver...

Sorry, installation of this driver failed.

Please have a look at the log file for details: /var/log/jockey.log
$

For me it's not important to install the proprietary Nvidia driver. I just
would like to use the system. If possible with the nouveau or with the nvidia
driver

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 313514] Re: MASTER: evdev driver ignores keycodes 255

2012-01-22 Thread Thomas Hood
Further to the advice in #72 above, I'd just like to point out that as
of udev version 175, default udev keymapping can be overridden by means
of a file in /etc/udev/keymaps/ named the same as the file in
/lib/udev/keymaps/ that it overrides.

Suppose, for example, you want to make use of the Zoom key on a ThinkPad
X220. The file /lib/udev/keymaps/module-lenovo maps this key with
scancode 0x13 to zoom, i.e., KEY_ZOOM, which has a value of 372. To
change this to prog2, i.e., KEY_PROG2, value 149 (corresponding to X
event XF86Launch2, value 157), copy /lib/udev/keymaps/module-lenovo to
/etc/udev/keymaps/module-lenovo and change the line 0x13 zoom to 0x13
prog2.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 303224] Re: garbled Emacs display when running under compiz with nvidia drivers

2012-01-22 Thread gene
It is also true for my X200M radeon card with the radeon driver.
I started noticing it quite a long time ago, maybe even since the 10.04 version
(while I have no issues with the i915 machine LTS) . For the time being I am
running 11.04 on the custom-built kernel, uname: Linux 3.0.17-nonrad+ #1 SMP

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763052] Re: Ubuntu 10.10 can't boot on nvidia GeForce GT240

2012-01-22 Thread mhcabi
I have experienced problems with the GT240 on both 10.10 AND 11.10 (both
64bit).

On 10.10:
Installed the system from cd; couldn't uninstall nouveau-firmware because it
said package is not installed; removed server-xorg-video-nouveau and installed
nvidia-current.
Rebooted, couldn't get 3D to work until I uninstalled an re-installed the
proprietary Nvidia drivers, rebooted and everything worked perfectly - UNTIL I
installed Adobe Flash and tried to play a YouTube video - system completely
froze.
Also experienced same as above - constant reboots, not even a 'base-level'
keyboard etc.

To be honest im getting just a little bit fed-up with Canonical's antics
of the last 2-3 years (apologies if this is an Nvidia issue and not an
Ubuntu one) - this six-month release schedule seems to be a bit of an
encumbrance: instead of releasing every six months something that is
untested and faulty, why not wait a bit longer until more things are
sorted:

For example:
Installed 11.10 on my computer because I bought a new SSD - Previously working
ATI graphics wouldn’t work and my previously working network card wouldn't
work!!!
Thought that Nvidia would be a safer bet, installed a GT240 - ridiculous issues
with the system rebooting constantly.

I LOVE Linux, but the driver issues of recent years on Ubuntu are making
me really despair - instead of being 100% confident on an install (like
in the days of 9.04 for example) I am now almost totally reluctant to
want to change a system once it is working.

What is wrong!? Are there fewer devs willing to do the tedious task of
driver-coding? Or are Canonical just not bothered about checking things
like compatibility of VERY POPULAR RUN-OF-THE-MILL video cards, network
cards etc. before releasing. This is basic stuff!! There is nothing rare
or uncommon about a GT240! What kind of systems do they test Ubuntu on
for pity's sake?

Some comparison with asm from my own tree suggest that

%rdx == gtt_space
0x30(%rdx) gtt_space-size

%rax == obj
0x88(rax) == obj-gtt_space

0xb0(rax) == obj-mm_list.next

We die at NULL+0x30.

Stuff beforeafter makes less sense, and I'm misssing the function exit
code which should follow. Propably the add %rip does something fancy
out-of-line.

In other news we have an obj on the pinned list with gtt_space = NULL.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 912992]

2012-01-22 Thread Stephen Rees-Carter
(These are copied from the Launchpad bug - I figure they would be of use
here.)

I did a dist-upgrade of my machine, as well as installing the latest
Kernel you linked and have some interesting results:

1) I now need the 'noapic' flag in my boot options again.
Is this the same bug, or a different issue?
I have another bug open about this already:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/903558

2) The 'xrandr --output LVDS1 --off; xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto'
command succeeds in turning on the other monitor some times. Compiz
keeps crashing through, but it does switch on occasionally.

3) I did some testing with the Display settings and my Laptop monitor
works on 1360x768 and smaller, but the two larger resolutions, 1440x900
and 1600x900 don't work.

--

I just did an upgrade and have discovered that if I boot into 12.04 with a
second monitor, go into the Display Settings, ensure my laptop monitor is
enabled with the right reso (1600x900), clicking 'Apply' switches on the
monitor!
But it appears it will only switch on when the external is enabled too, so I
can't make it happen without an external monitor there and activated.

So I guess the question is, why can't it start up the monitor on boot?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 912992]

2012-01-22 Thread Daniel-ffwll
Hm, that's another report saying that plugging in a 2nd monitor and
switching it on on snb machine magically fixes things ...

A few things: Can you upgrade your kernel to the latest drm-intel-fixes
branch from Keith's git:

https://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/keithp/linux.git;a=summary

Also can you install intel-gpu-tools at least v1.1, hopefully ubuntu has
it. Otherwise grab the latest git from:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/app/intel-gpu-tools/

Then run tools/intel_reg_dumper for both a working configuration (i.e. 2
monitors switched on) and a non-working configuration and attach the
output to the bug. Please also attach the xrandr output so we know
exactly what output configuration the register dump is coming from.

The noapic issue is likely unrelated to your gpu woes.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 906086] Re: [arrandale] kernel OOPS setting external monitor to a higher resolution

2012-01-22 Thread Martin Pool
/home/mbp/build/linux/ubuntu-precise/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/i915_gem.c: In
function ‘i915_gem_create’:
/home/mbp/build/linux/ubuntu-precise/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/i915_gem.c:210:19:
error: ‘dev_priv’ undeclared (first use in this function)
/home/mbp/build/linux/ubuntu-precise/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/i915_gem.c:210:19:
note: each undeclared identifier is reported only once for each function it
appears in

This doesn't build when applied to the precise kernel, I guess because
it's based off something a bit newer... I'll look.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 920247] [NEW] display freezes at (random?) times

2012-01-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

frequently, everything but the mouse on my screen freezes. Moving the
mouse around, it changes shape, as if there is still an active screen,
but that is not being displayed, but only a frozen screenshot is
visible.

It might be related to chromium, but I can not confirm that with
certainty.

You are missing one declaration of dev_priv, around line 205. With that
fixed, it does build on the Ubuntu kernel. I'm going to test it with
slub_debug.
