[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 924743] Re: [Oneiric] Xorg (not kernel) hangs hard on laptop resume, Dell E6410, Intel Graphics

2012-02-02 Thread Michael
I had a similar but not identical hang (I will assume for now it is
related) just now on resume. The screensaver didn't kick in, the mouse
pointer moved, initially it also changed shape as I would expect. I was
able to switch to a VT, and restart GDM, which prompted me to log back
into my (still running) session. When I did so though the picture was
still unchanged. Killing the X session from the console got me back. I
made a copy of syslog and Xorg.0.log from before killing the session and
will attach them. Note the [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid
framebuffer id messages at the end of the syslog. (Note: Firefox and
VirtualBox were running at the time. I killed them to see before I
killed the X session. I don't think that they are related to the hang
though.)

2012-02-02 Thread Saso

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 924851] Re: Primary display is blank if external display is connected at boot-up

2012-02-02 Thread Stewart Wilson
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 has-workaround precise
regression reproducible running-unity ubuntu

** Description changed:

The Primary (internal) display of my laptop is blank if an external display
is connected when the laptop is started. The loader and Greeter will be shown
the external display, and the extended desktop will be shown on the external
monitor as expected.
However, the Launcher is not visible, as it is located on the internal
display. When this first occurred, I hot-plug disconnected the external
display, to try and force the desktop onto the internal display. A fuzzy white
grid pattern then started creeping in from the edges of the laptop display. To
recover from the problem, the external display had to be reconnected, restoring
the previous (incomplete) view of the extended desktop.

Starting the laptop, with the external display not connected, the
internal laptop display shows fine. Hot-plug connecting the display once
the machine is booted also works as expected, allowing both displays to
  be used.

This seems to be a regression in P (12.04 development branch), as this
setup was previously working fine in Oneiric.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 925387] [NEW] xinput-calibrator tells wrong path for xorg.conf.d

2012-02-02 Thread Michael Schieschke
Public bug reported:

The actual calibration works fine with my touchscreen, but the
instructions how to save the calibration values permanently (in Xorg
config file) need updating because they will confuse many users.

Example:

$ xinput_calibrator
Calibrating EVDEV driver for LBPS/2 Fujitsu Lifebook TouchScreen id=10
current calibration values (from XInput): min_x=74, max_x=950 and
min_y=70, max_y=927

Doing dynamic recalibration:
Setting new calibration data: 72, 949, 68, 927

-- Making the calibration permanent --
copy the snippet below into '/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/99-calibration.conf'
Section InputClass
Identifier calibration
MatchProductLBPS/2 Fujitsu Lifebook TouchScreen
Option Calibration 72 949 68 927
EndSection

With Ubuntu 11.10 (oneiric) the location should be /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/
and this has been like that since 10.10 (maverick).

From what i can see the following source code files need to be fixed:

$ rgrep -n /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ .
./src/calibrator/calibratorXorgPrint.cpp:89:printf( copy the snippet
below into '/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/99-calibration.conf'\n);
./src/calibrator/calibratorEvdev.cpp:473:printf( copy the snippet below
into '/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/99-calibration.conf'\n);

Additional information:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 11.10
Release:11.10

$ apt-cache policy xinput-calibrator

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 925426] [NEW] crash: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at (null)

2012-02-02 Thread Ayke van Laethem
Public bug reported:

When using the program Hugin to stitch photos together, X/nouveau/linux
crashed. It crashed when it was loading the preview of the photos (which uses
3D?). I used Unity.
I got a backtrace (like on a tty), but the mouse still moved. Keyboard didn't
work anymore but I could SSH into the computer.
I made a bug report with ubuntu-bug (attached) and made two photos of both
sides of the screen with the crash report.

I've had such a crash before, that was probably the same bug. I think
that was while revealing the Unity launcher.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 805700] Re: NattyOneiric - intel 82945G/GZ graphics card - Intel driver fails

Great!
I had the same problem (reported with bug report 902616) on the same Foxconn
board, same intel graphic chip with intel atom 230 processor. The option
pci=noacpi lets the problem disappear, miraculously.
Of coursed, then I'm missing acpi -- maybe 12.04 will be able to solve that
problem as well?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 359578] Re: [gm45] Warzone 2100 3D is rendered black with GMA4500MHD

2012-02-02 Thread Jan Tománek
The bug is back, I have Ubuntu 11.10 64bit and Intel 450MHD. With some
games, changing some graphics options helps, however not in Warzone,
everything rendered in 3D is black. Setting texture size to 64 showed
some parts of the vehicles in the game, rendered correctly, for example
cannon of a tank was cisible, however tank not. And some parts of
buildings were like a rainbow.

Is there any info I could provide?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 41301] Re: Mouse clicks stop working sporadically

2012-02-02 Thread Isaac Ullah
Just reporting back that restarting X works for me, and seems to provide
a longer time of normal mouse behaviour. I am now about three hours in,
and mouse is still working normally.

The exact procedure that worked for me was to reboot, log in,
immediately resart X, log in again, immediately restart X again, and
then log in one last time.

2012-02-02 Thread Brad Figg
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during
any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all.
Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request
further testing. This is such a request.

We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel
than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test
again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still
exists or not.

You can update to the latest development kernel by simply running the
following commands in a terminal window:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to New.
If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to
Fix Released.

If you want this bot to quit automatically requesting kernel tests, add
a tag named: bot-stop-nagging.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.

2012-02-02 Thread Bryce Harrington
Stephen verified the drm-intel-fixes branch contains a fix for the
issue. Upstream says a lot of snb fixes went in to that branch, so
presumably this will require backporting of the snb patch set. Since
the branch targets the 3.3 kernel, which we do not plan to ship in
ubuntu, we won't get the fixes automatically for Precise.

Potentially eugeni will backport them to the 3.2 tree. If that happens,
then assuming the kernel team updates to new stable releases of this
kernel series, we would get the fix then.

I'll leave it to the kernel team to finish the porting of the fixes into
the ubuntu kernel.

Hi nvucinic or others affected by this. How are you doing on testing
the mesa package I provided?

We're about to upload mesa 8.0, after which time this fixed package
won't be relevant, so I'd like to gain closure on this soon.

Hrm, pitty.

We will be uploading mesa 8.0rc either today or soon this week. How
about we have you guys re-test once that's in, and if it still occurs
I'll forward the bug upstream at that point for further analysis.

When you have mesa 8.0rc up, please re-test and report here. Attach a
fresh dmesg and i915_error_state.

This bug might be the same as the one here:

It sounds like a similar issue - given that he reports the computer works fine
via SSH (so it's purely screen not working).

I don't understand Kernel versions enough to work out if it's the same
though.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 905686] Re: nautilus assert failure: nautilus: ../../src/xcb_io.c:528: _XAllocID: Assertion `ret != inval_id' failed.

2012-02-02 Thread Bryce Harrington
We're in the process of updating the X stack in Precise (post-alpha-2),
including a new libxcb and other bits. There have been several fixes
for threading problems, and are wondering if they'll (finally) resolve
this long standing problem.

If you are able to reliably reproduce this bug, then after these changes
land (within the next day or two) please re-test and report back if it
still occurs. If you do still see it, please include your libxcb
version and the stack trace you got.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 925785] [NEW] Starting to scroll is erratic

2012-02-02 Thread Chris Coulson
Public bug reported:

Since the X transition in precise, scrolling is very erratic. When I
activate edge scrolling on my touchpad, the content I'm scrolling often
jumps by an unpredictable and large amount in either direction, before
scrolling correctly.

Other people have reported the same issue with mouse scrollwheels too,
so it doesn't seem to be touchpad specific.

This is easily triggered by using either of the other touchpad buttons
before scrolling. If I activate a scroll without touching any other
buttons, then it appears to work correctly.

Jani, thanks for testing and providing the feedback. I've copied it up
to the upstream bug. Feel free to comment and post directly on that bug
report, as it'll give a quicker turnaround with upstream.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 925785] Re: Starting to scroll is erratic with edge scrolling on touchpad or mouse scrollwheels

2012-02-02 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Aha! It seems that I can reliably reproduce this. For me the steps
are:

1) Plug in an external mouse
2) Move the external mouse
3) The start of the first set of scroll events from the touchpad is bad
(scrolling in the opposite direction). After the initial bad events, scrolling
works as normally until I move the external mouse again.

2012-02-02 Thread Bryce Harrington
pep, did you notice this behavior only recently (e.g. after upgrading to 12.04)
or has it always been like this?
If you can help us pin down when the issue first started happening it'll help
us identify where to look.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 916763] Re: [gm45] Ubuntu sometimes stutters in that the mouse will briefly stop moving, sometimes the screen will lock up completely.

2012-02-02 Thread Bryce Harrington
Just to be clear, in your description I gather that the behavior occurs
only on 12.04, and didn't affect 11.10?

Your description seems to imply you had been running 12.04 earlier
before your clean install and upgrade, is that correct? If so, did this
issue present itself in the earlier 12.04, or only this latest one?

Reason I ask is to help us narrow down if this is a regression in the
new X stack that we brought in a couple weeks ago, in which case it may
be due to the backported input stack. But if it's a pre-existing
condition then it may be an upstream bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 923421] Re: When any application accesses tv card the display resets to login.

2012-02-02 Thread Bryce Harrington
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 921384 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/921384

Downgrading fglrx would not help; the earlier binary driver has ABI
incompatibility with 1.11 and won't work at all.

The issue is known and will be fixed prior to the Precise release.
