[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 954293] Re: [regression] Xorg freeze

2012-03-16 Thread Eugene San
Yesterday I had very unpleasant incident due to this bug, my Laptop got
overheated.
Video driver hang also blocks power control, therefore bug severity should be
raised.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 956208] Re: Screen corruption on AMD with Radeon driver

2012-03-16 Thread Timo Jyrinki
The llvmpipe CPU gallium driver nowadays supports OpenGL quite well,
although it seems it's not yet correct enough for Unity. VMWare is
mentioned as the vendor since they've (probably) done most of the
llvmpipe driver work, so they get the credit.

The key problem is that fglrx driver was in use, and radeon driver was
tried to be temporarily used instead. Removing the fglrx driver has a
long history of not working too well - I'm not sure about the current
situation - and at least it needs to be completely removed/purged before
trying out radeon driver, because of the diversions it makes to move
normal Mesa OpenGL libraries away from usage.

So, two issues:
1. llvmpipe should be probably blacklisted for Unity for 12.04, forcing to
Unity 2D. Even if it would work, it'd mean something's wrong for
ati/nvidia/intel users that should use GPU ccelerated drivers.
2. fglrx may need some fixing, although in this specific case some additional
questions need to be answered: a) was fglrx removed using Jockey or by manually
removing the package (just to collect data, there is no valid reason why both
shouldn't work, but with the manual method purge must be used), b) was the
computer rebooted in between (both NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx and dmesg
indicate the module being loaded, possibly interfering)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 682198] Re: Keyboard backlight does not function under Ubuntu - workaround needed

2012-03-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
I don't think X should be involved in managing these settings. Like
screen brightness, the configuration setting should be set and managed
by Gnome.

For cases where there isn't a driver available for a particular
keyboard, bug reports should be filed against the kernel.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948938] Re: Mouse input (warp and clipping) broken in Wine 1.4rc6

2012-03-16 Thread entonjackson
I cannot apply the patch, because i can't compile it on amd64.
it tells me there are 32bit X libraries missing... anyway.
Please commit the fix, if it's really fixing this issue without creating
another.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948938] Re: Mouse input (warp and clipping) broken in Wine 1.4rc6

2012-03-16 Thread Rocko
The problem is that the patch doesn't allow for any acceleration or
clipping that X normally supplies, so it is unlikely to be committed.

If you are having trouble building wine on ubuntu 12.04, there are some
workarounds you can try that I detailed in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/949606. One of them
is to install all the i386 dev libraries that you need, even though it
breaks amd64 compilation (you can reverse the process afterwards).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 647802] Re: amdcccle crashed with SIGSEGV

2012-03-16 Thread Mark Fernandes
I had this problem when I booted my laptop into single display
(basicially just the laptop screen) mode after having configured it
earlier in multiple display (extended desktop) mode.

Worked fine when it was configured in single display and later connected
an external monitor (in that situation only mirrored desktops worked)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 851612] Re: Logging out from a FUS session does not reliably return to VT7

2012-03-16 Thread Ubuntu Foundation's Bug Bot
The attachment lightdm_patch_for_oneiric.debdiff of this bug report
has been identified as being a patch in the form of a debdiff. The
ubuntu-sponsors team has been subscribed to the bug report so that they
can review and hopefully sponsor the debdiff. In the event that this is
in fact not a patch you can resolve this situation by removing the tag
'patch' from the bug report and editing the attachment so that it is not
flagged as a patch. Additionally, if you are member of the ubuntu-
sponsors team please also unsubscribe the team from this bug report.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 927051] Re: On bootup, 'screenshot of shutdown' flashes up

2012-03-16 Thread Greg Auger
It's difficult to tell: I only get this when autologin is enabled.

It's probably worth noting that this only happens when restarting (as
opposed to shutting down, and then pressing the power button to turn
back on).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 947833] Re: When copying selection to clipboard in LibreOffice Calc 'X' process begining to eat 100% cpu

2012-03-16 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Alexander, could you please execute the following at the Terminal and post the
results to this report:
apt-cache policy nvidia-graphics-drivers

** Description changed:

- Step to reproduce:
- 1) open Calc
- 2) type something
- 3) make selection of some cells
- 4) press Ctrl+C
+ 1) lsb_release -rd
+ Description: Ubuntu 11.10
+ Release: 11.10

- After this 'X' process begining to eat 100% cpu until Calc application is
being closed.
- It looks like that this moving dots around selection (animation which appears
right after Ctrl+C) are causing this behaviour.
+ 2) apt-cache policy xorg
+ xorg:
+ Installed: 1:7.6+7ubuntu7.1
+ Candidate: 1:7.6+7ubuntu7.1
+ Version table:
+ *** 1:7.6+7ubuntu7.1 0

+ 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
+ 1:7.6+7ubuntu7 0
+ 500 http://pt.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main amd64 Packages
+
+ apt-cache policy libreoffice-calc
+ libreoffice-calc:
+ Installed: 1:3.4.4-0ubuntu1
+ Candidate: 1:3.4.4-0ubuntu1
+ Version table:
+ *** 1:3.4.4-0ubuntu1 0

+
+ lspci | grep VGA
+ 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G84 [GeForce 8600 GT]
(rev a1)
+
+ 3) What is exected to happen in Calc:
+ + open Calc
+ + type something
+ + make selection of some cells
+ + press Ctrl+C
+
+ and the CPU resource consumption does not ramp up to 100%.
+
+ 4) What happens instead is after this, the 'X' process begining to eat
+ 100% cpu until Calc application is being closed. It looks like that
+ this moving dots around selection (animation which appears right after
+ Ctrl+C) are causing this behaviour.
+
+ WORKAROUND: Tools/Options/View and uncheck Graphics output: Anti-
+ aliasing. Now copying to clipboard doesn't eat cpu.

Tested on libreoffice-calc 3.4.3, 3.4.4 and 3.4.5. All theese versions are
affected.
Also tested on Write. Write is not affected. Copying to clipboard doesn't
eat cpu.
  My config:
  - GeForce 7300 GT
  - AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+
  - 512Mb ram
  - Ubuntu 11.10
  - 3.0.0-16-generic kernel
  - nvidia 295.20 proprietary video driver.
  - dual-monitor configuration
  - packages had been installed manually (ubuntu network installation), only
minimum set of packages for xfce to work. So it's not default Ubuntu
installation from cd/usb with default set of packages.
-
- WORKAROUND: Tools/Options/View and uncheck Graphics output: Anti-
- aliasing. Now copying to clipboard doesn't eat cpu.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 918791] Re: qemu-kvm dies when using vmvga driver and unity in the guest

2012-03-16 Thread Serge Hallyn
@Martin,

No - Im still not sure about its responsibilities, so I don't know
whether it's deemed a bug that it is using negative values, but
certainly (virtualized) hardware shouldn't crash due to it, so that's
where we're fixing it.

So I'll mark the -vmware package part of the bug invalid.

Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 955917] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in BlockHandler()

2012-03-16 Thread Roger
I can now report that the 290.10 drivers from Nvidia work flawlessly for
me in Precise. I'm using an Nvidia 9800 GT card and an Asus P6T DELUXE
V2 motherbord on a desktop computer. No more crashes.

If the 295.20 drivers don't work with search in gnome-shell, regardless
of system it seems, and cause session crashes in unity, at least on some
systems, maybe it would be a good idea to provide the tried and true
290.10 drivers in Precise, at least as an option?

Is there a similar bug filed for Intel driver?

At least in RedHat's bugzilla there's a relevant patch:

I don't see any patches there. Is it perhaps hiding in the .srpm?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 544496]

2012-03-16 Thread Sven Arvidsson
The need to manually configure drirc to use driver=dri2 is filed as bug
34401.

I'm still not sure if toggling vsync on/off inside an application is
supposed to work (it doesn't seem to with r300g in Sauerbraten or
M.A.R.S. for example). What component should a bug be filed against in
this case?

At least M.A.R.S. seems to be using glXSwapIntervalSGI for vsync.

Actually, forget about this part. It works, at least in MARS. Not sure
about Sauerbraten, but it could be a bug in the game.

Update to latest Ubuntu, and then play whatever 3D games you'd been

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 954293] Re: [regression] Xorg freeze

2012-03-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
Interesting, you're definitely getting a GPU lockup:

Xorg.0.log
[ 339.944] [mi] EQ overflowing. Additional events will be discarded until
existing events are processed.
[ 339.944]
Backtrace:
[ 339.944] 0: /usr/bin/X (xorg_backtrace+0x37) [0xb7795007]

dmesg:
[ 107.897744] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed...

[ 107.897804] [drm] capturing error event; look for more information in

(awaiting 17410 at 17406, next 17411)
[ 243.583933] cfg80211: All devices are disconnected, going to restore
regulatory settings

That means X.org couldn't write to the GPU's memory, which is a symptom
of a hung GPU.

However:

Time: 1331732836 s 509176 us
PCI ID: 0x0116
EIR: 0x
PGTBL_ER: 0x
ERROR: 0x

I assume you gathered these by ssh'ing in when the system was hung?

In both your i915_error_state files, there are no errors registered,
just 0's which indicate the GPU isn't hung on a software error. Any
chance it could be a hardware error? Try booting an older ubuntu livecd
from before you started noticing the error, like alpha2, and see if it
reproduces there. If so, a hardware problem might be a good guess, so
keep an eye on the cpu temperature and see if you have a bad fan or some
such.

If it doesn't reproduce on the older ubuntu, then the kernel would be
the next thing to look at.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 957298] Re: Mouse is very slow after starting a session on Precise

2012-03-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
Marc, thanks. Can you do a bit more experimentation?

It's possible only one of the outputs are causing the problem, or else
only the DP or only the HDMI. Can you test dropping those sections one
by one to see which are actually required?

Also, you told me on irc that it doesn't have any displayport connectors
wired up. Are there any HDMI ports?

Oh, and also sometimes laptops will have support for these so they can
be used with a docking station. Any chance you have the docking station
for this hardware? If so, what graphics ports does it have?

I'll try removing the entries one by one to report the problematic
one(s) later. For now, I can tell you that I only see a VGA port on the
side of my laptop. The other ports are probably used by the docking
station but I don't have one, nor do I know anyone with one.

2012-03-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
Thanks, I'll wait to ping kernel folks until you've had a chance to do
that testing.

Hmm, referencing this on X200 docking stations:

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Docking-Station-options-for-X200-X200s-X201-X201s-X201i-X201si/ta-p/400573

Ultrabase has 1 VGA, 1 DisplayPort

So, guessing we can safely disable all the HDMI ports, but need to leave
at least one DP port on.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 957397] [NEW] mouse freezes after upgrading to 3.0.0-16 on eee pc R105

2012-03-16 Thread owen
Public bug reported:

Title explains it. There is just a mouse cursor that does not move in
the middle of the screen.

sudo modprobe -r psmouse; sleep 2; sudo modprobe psmouse
did not fix the problem.

all other function keys seem to be fine.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 950551] Re: No Mouse Cursor

2012-03-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
When did this behavior first start? Does it occur all the time, or are
there steps to reproduce it, or does it just happen randomly?

X allows client programs to hide the mouse cursor, so sometimes there
can be situations where a client app hides it and then fails to restore
it. Are there any unusual programs you're running, or apps installed
out of a PPA?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 955976] Re: Chrome is restarted after a graphic bug!

2012-03-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
I don't know how to view a .webm file. Can you just describe what
happens in text?

Your dmesg indicates that unity-2d crashed; do you think that could be
the problem here?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 939770] Re: package nvidia-current 295.20-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-03-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
Alright, I think it's not a bug in the nvidia driver, but more of a
general problem with installing onto a usb stick.

In oneiric we saw an issue where it'd fail because it couldn't update
the bootloader on a usb stick. I think that got sorted out. There was
also an issue with running out of disk space when installing proprietary
drivers on usb sticks, that the installer didn't handle. I don't know
if that got sorted out, but assume so.

Anyway, not really sure where this bug should go next for
troubleshooting, so just going to bump it to the ubuntu queue.
