If keep a finger on the trackpad and press and release button1, the GUI stay depressed until I move the cursor. (I do not have to move the cursor off the GUI button -- a tiny movement within the borders of the button is enough.) what happens when you use an intensive OpenGL app? XBMC in windowed mode is a good place to start, since you can minimize it and watch your heat, or rather anything using windowed mode+OpenGL at any larger scale. you can watch your heat with this (it's what I have in conky lol): nvidia-settings -query GPUCoreTemp | grep Attribute | grep -o '[0-9]\{2,3\}' after a minute or so I'm up to 90+°C and after a few minutes I end up over 100°C I'm using XBMC in windowed/maximized mode and a desktop resolution of 1920×1080@60Hz with DynaimcTwinView disabled (I use grandr to resize, with DynamicTwinView enabled, XBMC fails to get an output list and I end up with massive stutters) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/882710 Title: Monitor(s) black out and session freezes. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 770283] Re: [fglrx]title bar does not update on non-maximized windows
I have finally got into tracking this issue again. I did some tests and it really seems like some driver weirdness: I modified the gtk-window- decorator to send PropertyNotify events (complete redraws) on every decoratation change (like title change or button change) and also the decor plugin to save to disk the decoration Pixmap on every such update. This way I could confirm that the Pixmap IS correctly drawn to by the decorator - compiz sees the change in the Pixmap, but the resulting change is not visible on screen. This means that the only logical place where the problem might be hidden is with binding the Pixmap to a texture (GLXPixmap) and updating of the texture. I will be contacting ATI about this problem and hopefully getting some answers and reporting a bug - if it's indeed the case. Maybe it's a known quirk in the driver. In the meantime, I'll try on working on a workaround for this issue. Maybe we could add to the workaround plugin an option to explicitly force texture rebinding on decoration update. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/770283 Title: [fglrx]title bar does not update on non-maximized windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz-core/+bug/770283/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 967229] [NEW] Text mode shown briefly with various cryptic texts when logging out or shutting down
Public bug reported: Text mode hits in for about a half a second every time one logs out or shuts down the computer. The attached video Text-mode in logout and shutdown.webm is a combination of two clips showing this on one of my computers. This one has slightly more text output than my other machines, but on every machine it catches attention by being ugly and I'd guess cryptic or suspicious for ordinary people in the otherwise smooth experience starting from the bootup ubuntu logo. Tested on up-to-date Ubuntu 12.04 on an Intel IGD graphics netbook, Intel Sandy Bridge laptop and Radeon HD 4670 (open drivers) desktop machine. The video is from the sandy bridge one. xorg is most certainly wrong but that what ubuntu-bug got me for reporting screen corruption :) Might be plymouth, might be lightdm? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 626321] Re: X.org server should keep track of and restore its initial (desktop) resolution and refresh rate
I finished checking the following games in fullscreen using Ubuntu 11.10 with Unity, Kubuntu 11.10 (KDE) and Ubuntu 11.10 with Gnome3: + Trine2 + Half-Life 2 (PLus Ep1, Ep2 and TF2) + World of Goo + PLants Vs Zombies + Skyrim + Left4Dead + Left4Dead2 + Prince of Persia (Sands of Time) + Prince of Persia (Warrior Within) + Prince of Persia (Forgotten Throne) + GTA San Andreas + GTA Vice City + Spore + Hitman: Blood Money + Penumbra: Overture + Amnesia: The Dark Descent + Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne In ALL cases the problem is the same for all 3 desktops (KDE, Unity, Gnome3) If you open the game in fullscreen (In this case my resolution is 1680x1050, but the fullscreen was tested in 1280x1024, 1024x768 and 1360x768) after exiting the game, 100% of the time the resolution of the system will turn into the resolution of the game. So if Ubuntu has 1680x1050 and you open a game in fullscreen with a resolution of 1024x768, after exiting the game Ubuntu will have the resolution the game has. This was tested using an Nvidia 9500 card, Nvidia 440 card and an Intel 945. Did not have an Ati with me but I am guessing it will have the same result. I spend about a week and half testing this to maybe find some workaround that could fix the problem. No luck. I also tested this on Windows 7 and this does not happen. You can exit the game and the resolution will be the correct one for the desktop. Tried changing the Windows Version in Wine from XP, to 7, to 2003 and even tested Vista. Same result. Games were tested with OpenGL if they had the option or DirectX. Same result. The monitor I used was a Soneview 32' 16:10 TV 1080p just in case this has some influence. There was also no output error. For what Wine could know after exiting the game, everything was perfect. But of course the resolution after exiting was not. I also remember having this issue from 1.1.x, 1.2.x, 1.3.x and right now with the official 1.4. This pretty much sums everything up. If affects any program that uses fullscreen or has the ability to use fullscreen. If any of the games I have mentioned are used in a windows resolution (less than the actual desktop resolution) then no problem shows up. It only reveals itself in fullscreen. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/626321 Title: X.org server should keep track of and restore its initial (desktop) resolution and refresh rate To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/wine/+bug/626321/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 967320] [NEW] [FFe][MIR] Please promote xcompmgr to main for LTSP
Public bug reported: Recent experiment in upstream LTSP showed a significant drop of bandwidth usage and increase in performance when using compositing. The bandwidth benefit of this change may be of as much as 50%, so very significant for LTSP users on crowded application servers. Sadly compiz doesn't always work but xcompmgr in our tests always did. As such, we'd like xcompmgr promoted to main so that it can be used by the next bugfix release of LTSP. The package will end up on ubuntu alternate and edubuntu but it only weights 24K so I doubt it'll be a big problem. LTSP would only use xcompmgr -a so not any of the fancy shadowing code. I tried to reproduce each of the bugs at: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xcompmgr/+bugs And couldn't see any of these in the target environment. Same thing with the bugs at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?repeatmerged=nosrc=xcompmgr I tried moving windows around quite a lot, dragdrop, resize, minimize/maximize, locking the screen, all without a single glitch in our target environment. The package wasn't updated in the past 2 years, however it's I think feature-complete and simple enough to be pretty much risk free. ** Affects: xcompmgr (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - [MIR] Please promote xcompmgr to main for LTSP + [FFe][MIR] Please promote xcompmgr to main for LTSP -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xcompmgr in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/967320 Title: [FFe][MIR] Please promote xcompmgr to main for LTSP To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xcompmgr/+bug/967320/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

It will depend on the timing of when we can get it in. Agree it would be good to get that level of performance improvement in. Talked to jdstrand, and he said security audit wouldn't be necessary. Approved if we can get the MIR done, and change made by April 4. ** Tags added: rls-mgr-p-tracking ** Changed in: xcompmgr (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xcompmgr in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/967320 Title: [FFe][MIR] Please promote xcompmgr to main for LTSP To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xcompmgr/+bug/967320/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 967434] [NEW] GPU crashes after running »Portal 2« with wine
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have a Lenovo Thinkpad R500 with an intel onboard graphic system and an additional discrete nvidia video card. I use the bumblebee system to run graphic-intensive applications on the nvidia-card. (This doesn't work with the wine games I tested [portal, portal 2]). Portal 2 crashes in regular intervalls after hanging for some seconds. I am greeted with this message in dmesg: [ 707.693945] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung [ 707.693969] [drm] capturing error event; look for more information in /debug/dri/0/i915_error_state [ 707.720940] [drm:i915_wait_request] *ERROR* i915_wait_request returns -11 (awaiting 449234 at 449229, next 449235) After the game crashes, no application that uses OpenGL works. glxgears and all other glx* testing aplication do a segfault. Additionally, colors on some applications like gnome-terminal randomly change (whenever there is any kind of change on the screen). After a restart of X, OpenGL works again, although very slowly. (glxspheres gives 13 FPS with the Intel card instead of 60 FPS before). All this only affects the intel card, the nvidia card (probably because it isn't used) remains unaffected and is capable of rendering any graphics. (glxspheres: 150 FPS) I don't know where the bug is, the only PPA I use that may affect this is ppa:bumblebee/stable. I see forward to a fix. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 967320] Re: [FFe][MIR] Please promote xcompmgr to main for LTSP
As discussed on IRC, the next planned LTSP upload is on Friday and I'd ideally like to have ltsp-client depend on xcompmgr then. I realise it's a bit last minute, though we only discovered today that compiz and unity-3d won't be an option for LTSP as unity won't work with indirect rendering. unity-2d + xcompmgr is the only sane alternative from a bandwidth and CPU point of view, besides telling users to use gnome-session-fallback instead of unity... I forgot to say it in the description but I'm obviously happy to be responsible for xcompmgr and deal with any required update/fixing required for Precise and any later release. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xcompmgr in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/967320 Title: [FFe][MIR] Please promote xcompmgr to main for LTSP To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xcompmgr/+bug/967320/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 967905] [NEW] Xorg using excessive CPU
Public bug reported: I'm using Thunderbird 11.0 from Mozilla (not the repositories) so that I can share a profile with other installations. Just over the last few days, if I start Thunderbird as soon as I've logged into Precise, xorg starts hogging CPU. Top shows over 90% in use, and the system becomes very sluggish. The only cure seems to be either rebooting or (simpler) logging out and in again. Sometimes I have to kill the Xserver instead of logging out. Waiting for a little while (say, a minute) before launching Thunderbird seems to solve the problem. If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.
