[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 972125] [NEW] Right and middle mouse button do not work on clickpad
Public bug reported: On my HP Pavilion DV6 laptop, using the beta2 of Ubuntu 12.04 (off a USB drive), the clickpad right button and middle button do not work--they report as button 1 using xev. These buttons both used to work back on Ubuntu 10.04 with the 2.6.32-32 kernel (see bug #826054 for more info). I understand that the clickpad functionality has been removed from the kernel and added to x (xinput-synaptics), but the functionality appears to be only partial--only 1 button works! Since clickpad support is advertised as one of the major new features for Precise, it would be nice if it worked correctly. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 626321]
I finished checking the following games in fullscreen using Ubuntu 11.10 with Unity, Kubuntu 11.10 (KDE) and Ubuntu 11.10 with Gnome3: + Trine2 + Half-Life 2 (PLus Ep1, Ep2 and TF2) + World of Goo + PLants Vs Zombies + Skyrim + Left4Dead + Left4Dead2 + Prince of Persia (Sands of Time) + Prince of Persia (Warrior Within) + Prince of Persia (Forgotten Throne) + GTA San Andreas + GTA Vice City + Spore + Hitman: Blood Money + Penumbra: Overture + Amnesia: The Dark Descent + Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne In ALL cases the problem is the same for all 3 desktops (KDE, Unity, Gnome3) If you open the game in fullscreen (In this case my resolution is 1680x1050, but the fullscreen was tested in 1280x1024, 1024x768 and 1360x768) after exiting the game, 100% of the time the resolution of the system will turn into the resolution of the game. So if Ubuntu has 1680x1050 and you open a game in fullscreen with a resolution of 1024x768, after exiting the game Ubuntu will have the resolution the game has. This was tested using an Nvidia 9500 card, Nvidia 440 card and an Intel 945. Did not have an Ati with me but I am guessing it will have the same result. I spend about a week and half testing this to maybe find some workaround that could fix the problem. No luck. I also tested this on Windows 7 and this does not happen. You can exit the game and the resolution will be the correct one for the desktop. Tried changing the Windows Version in Wine from XP, to 7, to 2003 and even tested Vista. Same result. Games were tested with OpenGL if they had the option or DirectX. Same result. The monitor I used was a Soneview 32' 16:10 TV 1080p just in case this has some influence. There was also no output error. For what Wine could know after exiting the game, everything was perfect. But of course the resolution after exiting was not. I also remember having this issue from 1.1.x, 1.2.x, 1.3.x and right now with the official 1.4. This pretty much sums everything up. If affects any program that uses fullscreen or has the ability to use fullscreen. If any of the games I have mentioned are used in a windows resolution (less than the actual desktop resolution) then no problem shows up. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 883319]
I use xrandr for scaling to make a small netbook screen able to display apps that don't fit in 1024x600 and noticed this regression over the last year in 1.11. I finally decided to look closer since 1.12 didn't seem to fix the issue and came across this report. I looked at the revert commit to get idea of area that could possibly be fixed and it seems like crtc_bounds() is probably a function that should be returning a value related to panning/scaling. I traced were xrandr output is querying the panning/scaling values it displays and looks like comes from ProcRRGetCrtcInfo() and that function makes use of RRCrtcGetScanoutSize() to scaling width/height to correct size. Panning uses rrGetPanning(). To test the idea, I modified crtc_bounds to handle scaling case by adding ProcRRGetCrtcInfo() call. It does seem to work and I've not noticed a negative in limitted testing. I patched a source RPM so I can't offer a real patch right now but here is my modified version of function to get an idea: static void crtc_bounds(RRCrtcPtr crtc, int *left, int *right, int *top, int *bottom) { int width, height; RRCrtcGetScanoutSize (crtc, width, height); *left = crtc-x; *top = crtc-y; switch (crtc-rotation) { case RR_Rotate_0: case RR_Rotate_180: default: *right = crtc-x + width; *bottom = crtc-y + height; return; case RR_Rotate_90: case RR_Rotate_270: *right = crtc-x + height; *bottom = crtc-y + width; return; } } -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/883319 Title: xrandr --scale restricts area in which mouse moves To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/883319/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I reviewed the other patchwork patches just now. Patch 6209 in Comment 7 addresses panning part of issue in crtc_bounds() using same logic from ProcRRGetCrtcInfo(). If you combine my modification from Comment 17 with the patch 6209 then you'll get solution for both scaling and panning. Not sure its the right solution and it seems a little excessive to compute each X/Y movement... but I hope it helps move us along to final solution. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/883319 Title: xrandr --scale restricts area in which mouse moves To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/883319/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Sorry for the delay in follow-up: Yes, the patch when cherry-picked into a recentish mainline kernel shows noticable improvement. Subjectively, it still feels a little chunky when starting up (I think the login manager and gnome 3 both seem to issue a large number of xrandr requests), but night and day compared to the previous succession of stalls. w.r.t. bug 29536? I can't say whether it's a dupe or not. i specifically wasn't getting the periodic stalls every 10-30s. But perhaps the other reporter had something that was doing xrandr requests with that frequency whereas for me it was only during log-in. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/855124 Title: XRANDR operations very slow unless (phantom) HDMI1 disabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/855124/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 972324] [NEW] server fails to start up if TMPDIR is set to something on a different filesystem from /var/lib/xkb

This is because XkbDDXCompileKeymapByNames uses tempnam(xkm_output_dir, NULL) to create a temporary file. As documented, tempnam(3) prefers TMPDIR over the directory argument if TMPDIR is set. Perhaps this code should use something based on mkstemp(3) instead, which would permit finer-grained control. All as described happened the first time i ran the Try Ubuntu. I shut everything down and did everything exactly the same a second time to confirm and write this bug report. BUT - The Try/Install page is always split in the middle and the far top of the screen keeps flickering as described (to be exact, the entire screen is flickering with seemingly diagonal lines moving across light purple/orange/gray areas - difficult to describe but annoying to such degree that is affecting usability - almost as much as Unity :-). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/972294 Title: Precise GMA500 screen resolution and flicker To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/972294/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 32042] Re: OpenGL subroutine man pages missing
I feel this bug is miscategorized. These man pages should not come from Mesa, for two reasons: . not all systems use Mesa; some systems utilize the proprietary drivers, and they should be able to install these manpages as well. . Mesa is not the 'upstream' for these manpages, even if they happen to include the documents. The standards development group in this case is Khronos. Khronos provides a method to create these manapges. Thus I think this should be a new, separate package which is sourced from the Khronos documentation. Their subversion repository is: https://cvs.khronos.org/svn/repos/ogl/trunk/ecosystem/public/sdk/docs/man and their manpages can be generated using 'docbook2x-man -N' on each XML file. The Khronos documents are (mostly) considered BSD-licensed: http://www.opengl.org/wiki/Getting_started/XML_Toolchain_and_Man_Pages#Licenses I checked this myself, however. They are actually licensed under one of either the SGI Free Software B license, or the Open Publication License: $ grep -i license *.xml | cut -d: -f2 | sort | uniq Free Software B License. For details, see Free Software B License. For details, see Silicon Graphics, Inc. This document is licensed under the SGI Silicon Graphics, Inc. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 970632] Re: ATI Video
I should have mentioned in the bug report this is during a gnome session. Unity should have stayed in the Ubuntu Netbook Remix where it belongs, but that is neither here nor there. Install media was 10.04 LTS, I run the LTS on this machine because it is older. That is what I alluded to. Gnome ran fine on 10.04 with compiz enabled and effects set to extra. I may have booted unity once for testing. This is a regression. If the bug is nor resolved I will have to go back to 10.04 to get compiz effects on gnome and consider going upstream. The screen shot shows the issue clearly. You can see some artifacts above the bottom bar. Below the top bar the problem is worse. On Tue, Apr 3, 2012 at 8:13 AM, Timo Aaltonen tjaal...@ubuntu.com wrote: Unity demands more from the hw than what your machine has, so unity with compiz will not work. You need to either run the fallback unity-2d (which seems to have the bug you described) or gnome classic, see http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2012/03/gnome-classic-in-ubuntu-12-04-its- like-nothing-ever-changed/ note that a screenshot don't necessarily show the corruption -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/970632 Title: ATI Video Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: ATI 345 video card. compiz worked. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948234] Re: xorg intel driver returns less than 3fps in glxspheres test
This looks like a duplicate of bug #944627. It is most definitely a problem when just running the intel driver as well as when running the nvidia driver. However, the intel driver performs at least 20 times more slowly compared to Ubuntu 11.10 (on my PC right now it is running over a hundred times more slowly) whereas the nvidia driver only runs half as fast compared with 11.10. Should bug #944627 be reported against the intel driver instead of against compiz?
