[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 983910] Re: Touchpad scrolling doesn't work occasionally with Nautilus

2012-04-21 Thread Argyris
I can confirm what James says above. Versions up through ubuntu4 work
fine, but the latest version (ubuntu5) produces the behavior described
in the bug and the comments. There is a noticeable difference in the
coasting speed between the two versions, which suggests that this patch
may be the culprit, as it's an obvious change from ubuntu4.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 985065]

2012-04-21 Thread Sergey V. Udaltsov
not sure why there's a double-space between 'fr' and 'oss' there. Might be
relevant?
It is not a double space, it is a tab char IIRC.

 ++ xkb_symbols { include pc+fr(oss)+us:2+inet(evdev) };
g-s-d always adds system layout - from gdm. So if your gdm has 'us' layout,
it is added as a 2nd one. I just wonder where you lost the compose(ralt)
option...

Could you please attach 2 results:

1. Configure fr(oss) in normal gnome way, add 'us' as a 2nd layout (all
through GUI). Then, do xkbcomp :0 -xkb out_gnome.xkb

2. Just do setxkbmap -layout fr,us -variant oss, -option Then, do
xkbcomp :0 -xkb out_manual.xkb

I want to compare the files

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 986509] [NEW] In XFCE, window backgrounds go black

2012-04-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After invocation of some (most?) programs the originally most correctly
displayed window frame areas (like the bar containing the document tab
headers in GEdit) turn black.

As an example a screenshot is attached: Opening gedit with a document as
parameter directly colors the tab display line black (left window) while
a fresh invocation without a parameter (in example: invoking gedit from
the desktop context menu) renders the bar line as expected (grey).

Behaviour is observed for many programs.

Same problems with Norwegian keyboard layout. It won't set properly
after configuration, and en-US layout is used in practice (even though
indicator says No[rwegian]).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 986576] [NEW] NVidia Driver (7150M) is broken after beta2 updates

2012-04-21 Thread Manu Kemppainen
Public bug reported:

I have HP Pavilion dv6500 with NVidia 7150M.
After installing Beta2 and updates the desktop does not work anymore.
Unity breaks - no bar, no panel, nothing.
If I select Unity 2D the system still works.

I propably already reported this as unity error (Bug #985768) but I now found
out that this is related to the NVidia driver installation.
NVidia driver is nvidia-current_295.40-0ubuntu1_amd64.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 986585] [NEW] eGalax touchscreen quirks with 12.04/precise

2012-04-21 Thread aanno
Public bug reported:

Every touch makes the cursor move first registers a click. Because of
this, mouse cursor is moved, but all text get selected. In addition (and
for additional confusion) there are 2 (yes, TWO) mouse cursors on
screen. One is moving reasonably, and one moving very strange diagonally
across the screen.

This is a upgrade from 11.10/oneiric, where the touchscreen has worked
good (after some configuration). Hence the device is calibrated.

** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

The problem is still there - now the system didn't boot into graphical mode
after a couple of boots -
the logging output is the same attached at #4 and #5

Purging, reinstalling and rebooting seem to help. Let's see how this
problem changes with 12.04.

I believe this is not just limited to trying to install both versions at the

Look at:

Maybe thread should be re-titled and those bugs marked duplicate?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 850763] [NEW] [Intel 945GM/GMS] Plugging in external display results in garbled screen

2012-04-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I plug in my external monitor, the image on the laptop (Dell
Latitude D620) and on the monitor (Lenovo L220x) is corrupted. Mostly it
goes black with some white diagonal blocks. See screenshot.

The problem occurs irrespective of whether Unity or Ubuntu Classic
desktop is used. Some parts of the screen return to normal as they get
refreshed, (e.g. network applet, system monitor applet etc), or the
focus is given to an application.

Using the laptop's LCD switcher key sometimes has no effect and
sometimes completely hangs the system to the point of a hard-reset is
required.

Running the 'monitors' program, or xrandr shows both screens are
detected correctly with the correct resolutions.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 850763] Re: [Intel 945GM/GMS] Plugging in external display results in garbled screen

2012-04-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Tags added: needs-upstream-testing

** Tags added: regression-release

** Tags added: oneiric

** Description changed:

- This does not appear to be the same as https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/753971
- which relates to Unity. I hope I've filed this under the right package.
-
- Note, all packages on this system are up to date as of 1 hour ago.
-
When I plug in my external monitor, the image on the laptop (Dell

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 774999] Re: [i865G] Upgrade should warn user about lack of support for old 8xx intel hardware

2012-04-21 Thread piccobello
I have an old machine with this intel graphics card:
 $ lspci -v|grep -i vga
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82865G Integrated
Graphics Controller (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
I am using Kubuntu natty since a while now, and I never had a problem
whatsoever.
I only learned about this bug as I got the scary warning while trying to
upgrade to oneiric.
Should I be worried? Is there something useful I can do?
I have arrived to natty via an upgrade, and I always kept all desktop effects
deactivated, I guess that may be why I never had any issues.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 901630] Re: multitouch + qt doesn't work (eg fingerpaint demo) with wacom serial touchscreen

2012-04-21 Thread bootchk
I had a similar issue and yes:

sudo apt-get remove xserver-xorg-input-wacom

changes the behaviour. Previously, SettingsInput DevicesTrackpad
showed no devices. Now, it shows my Wacom CTT-460. Also, mtdev-test
still fails as above but geisttest seems to show the device working with
pinches. (geisview fails because gtk is not installed.)

Other sources say that the kernel module named wacom, a *driver*, is
distinct from the *Xorg input driver* named xserver-xorg-input-wacom.
Also, the kernel module named evdev is distinct from the Xorg input
driver named similarly. I don't understand the difference, but
/var/log/dmesg still shows a wacom driver being used for my device.

I am running kubuntu 12.4b.

My best guess it is an architectural issue: client vs server. I recall
that Ubuntu is moving multitouch and gesture recognition to the client
side (the windowing system and application, more or less) from the
server side (Xorg, the X11 server.) IOW the Xorg input driver named
evdev passes raw multitouch events on to the client (Qt) instead of
interpreting them???

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 986576] Re: NVidia Driver (7150M) is broken after beta2 updates

2012-04-21 Thread Bryce Harrington
When you say I now found out that this is related to the NVidia driver
installation can you explain how you determine this?

There's a known issue with some older model cards with this version of
the driver, is that what you're referring to? If it is, I think we have
another bug tracking that, so this is a dupe.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 759331] Re: Right-clicking doesn't work on HP ProBook 4520s using trackpad

2012-04-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Dylan Taylor, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue?
Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images
are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in the
development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and
attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not
boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

** Description changed:

Right-clicking doesn't work at all in Ubuntu 10.10 or 11.04 when using
the built-in trackpad on the HP ProBook 4520s. When I plugged in my HP
MG-0133 wireless mouse, everything worked perfectly fine, but the
- trackpad would not recognize any right clicks. This is a very annoying
- bug, and I didn't know what package to file this under, so it's filed
- under linux, even though that's almost certainly incorrect.
+ trackpad would not recognize any right clicks.

2012-04-21 Thread Maarten Deprez
Strangely, i seem to experience this bug (at least, apport sent me here)
most often (not every time) when LibreOffice.org is suggesting a word...
On Ubuntu 12.04 testing, up-to-date. A few days ago, this would hang my
system, requiring reboot, but now it recovered.

Dmesg output (i915_error_state attached):

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 901630] Re: multitouch + qt doesn't work (eg fingerpaint demo) with wacom serial touchscreen

2012-04-21 Thread bootchk
According to some sources, multitouch doesn't work on Ubuntu desktop until
version Qt5.
Only on Windows desktop or some mobile platforms.

http://qt-project.org/forums/viewthread/12664

Just to be clear, Chase above is correct, uTouch should work, but its not
necessarily part of Qt?
uTouch is for the Ubuntu platform. Qt uses other technology on Windows.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 986576] Re: NVidia Driver (7150M) is broken after beta2 updates

2012-04-21 Thread Manu Kemppainen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 982485 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/982485

I pre-installed the 12.04 Beta2 system and run all the updates - there were no
problems.
After update I installed the proprietary NVidia driver (295.40) from Additional
Drivers.
The problem only exist if I am using proprietary NVidia driver.

BTW, This bug seems to be still duplicate to the confirmed bug #982485
