BTW: Double-clicking on a maximized window's title bar (i.e. the global
menu bar) works and the window correctly toggles to its unmaximized
state.

This worked for me prior to upgrading to 12.04. After the upgrade to
Precise it stopped working.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 820881] Re: [i945] Heavy screen and font corruption when free memory is low on GMA950

2012-05-06 Thread Thorsten Kohfeldt
Sitsofe,

I experience this problem in Oneiric:

cat /proc/version
Linux version 3.0.0-19-generic (buildd@vernadsky) (gcc version 4.6.1
(Ubuntu/Linaro 4.6.1-9ubuntu3) ) #33-Ubuntu SMP Thu Apr 19 19:05:57 UTC 2012

dpkg -l | grep xserver-xorg\
ii xserver-xorg
1:7.6+7ubuntu7.1X.Org X server

dpkg -l | grep intel
ii libdrm-intel1 2.4.26-1ubuntu1
Userspace interface to intel-specific kernel DRM
services -- runtime
ii xserver-xorg-video-intel
2:2.15.901-1ubuntu2.1 X.Org X server -- Intel i8xx, i9xx
display driver

lspci -nn | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ
Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2772] (rev 02)
cat /proc/version

I can easily reproduce the problem instantly after boot when running
bonnie++ benchmarks while switching between multiple X servers via
Ctrl/Alt F7-F12, given the following lightdm config (I am logged into
one session and the other sessions just show the greeter):

cat /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

[LightDM]
greeter-user=lightdm
seats=Seat:0 Seat:1 Seat:2 Seat:3

[SeatDefaults]
allow-guest=false
greeter-hide-users=true
greeter-session=lightdm-gtk-greeter
user-session=xubuntu

[Seat:0]
user-session=xubuntu
autologin-user=

[Seat:1]
user-session=xubuntu
autologin-user=

[Seat:2]
user-session=xubuntu
autologin-user=

[Seat:3]
user-session=xubuntu
autologin-user=

[Seat:4]
user-session=xubuntu
autologin-user=

[Seat:5]
user-session=xubuntu
autologin-user=

[XDMCPServer]
enabled=true

In case I swapoff -a before starting the test, then the problem seems to
be gone though.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 995380] [NEW] X keyboard layout behavior changed after upgrade to Precise Pangolin

2012-05-06 Thread Gard Spreemann
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from 11.10 to 12.04, X keyboard layout behavior has
changed for systems that use an Xorg config file. I have one system
where I need to have such a config file (due to an odd display that
needs a modeline), and in 11.10 the X keyboard layout was defined by
/etc/default/keyboard. After upgrade, the layout set there (no) seems
to be ignored, and a US keymap is used instead.

As a workaround, setxkbmap does work.

Behavior is correct on system that don't use an Xorg config file.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 995372] [NEW] switching external monitors impossible

2012-05-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

after upgrading to 12.04 I've encountered the following problem with
gnome3 desktop:

I have 2 screens for my laptop (dell xps502z), one at home and one at
work. they have different resolutions, and both connected via the mini-
displayPort socket (the hdmi socket on this dell doesn't work due to
Nvidia Optimus crap).

When moving from one monitor to the other, the monitor doesn't get a
signal. Opening the display manager shows the screen blackened, and
trying to enable it brings about the following error:

GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: No such interface
`org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.XRANDR_2' on object at path
/org/gnome/SettingsDaemon/XRANDR

restarting X11 solves this, but of course means I have to exit any open
window, and reconfigure my dual monitor layout each time. this was 100%
fine in 11.10.

this happens when moving from either screen to the other.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 986509] Re: In XFCE, window backgrounds go black

I can confirm, that switching to Ambiance or Radiance themes in the XFCE theme
settings fixes this issue.
I'm assuming this is a bug in XFCE in combination with GTK-Apps and maybe GTK 3.

Public bug reported:

Have installed a Dell flat screen monitor. Claims to be running at 640x480 but
monitor displays only a quarter tile of the desktop ie about 3500 dots
resolution
How do you install the software and is the no entry sign from system update
anything to do with it
regards Mike

Actually downloading 12.04 didn't actually help was over-optimistic after
having backed up my personal data..
On third attempt after 4 hours downloaded the iso file. whilst i can get one of
the three copies of this that i made to launch a desktop, am totally unable to
install the software for various reasons including a fault in the error
reporting module!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 980017] Re: [i965gm] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x02000004

2012-05-06 Thread beccatoria
Awesome - thank you VERY much, I'm happy to report that adding the xorg-
edgers repository has largely solved my issues.

For information, I am still getting the error message a few minutes
after startup most of the time (a few times it has not happened). And
if I try to report it it seems to freak out and spawn infinite errors.
But if I cancel reporting it and ignore it, then there's no further
issue, I receive no further error notifications, and Unity + Compiz seem
to be working fine together. When changing some settings in the Compiz
Manager and on a few other occasions, it seems as though Compiz has
rebooted itself (I briefly get a blank desktop with nothing but my
wallpaper before everything reappears), but this has only happened to me
on once outside of actively fiddling with the Compiz settings and every
time it's recovered in 2 - 3 seconds rather than crashing and dying, or
providing a corrupted display as it was previously.

It's very useable now as long as I don't try to report that initial
error. *gigantic thumbs up*

Thanks again for being so helpful, Ben!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 995339] [NEW] Move notifications to main display

2012-05-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm using 3 monitors with my NVidia card (TwinView). The way I see it,
people that use more than one monitor usually have a *main* one, placed
more directly in their field of view, and secondary displays might be
placed elsewhere, near or far, including other areas out of the user's
field of view.

In my case, all notifications pop-up in my third monitor (or whatever
monitor I added last). It it's counterproductive. Notifications should
pop-up in the main monitor.

If that is not something that can be coded as a default, an option to
choose where notifications will pop-up could be added to g-c-c
Displays setting.

Regards,
Effenberg

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 556782]

2012-05-06 Thread Carl Fink
Since this bug was reported over a year ago and no real progress has
been made in fixing it, may I ask a knowledgeable person what the last
working version of the code was, before this bug was introduced? Is
there any way to create a radeon-unsupported module for those of us
who have chipsets X.org doesn't plan to support with their newer
versions?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 950950] Re: nvidia-settings does not remember settings, full hd monitor runs in interlaced mode every logout/reboot

2012-05-06 Thread e633
Same problem with the refresh rate here.
There are many open bugs which IMHO are duplicates: the main problem is that
nvidia-settings won't properly save reuse the settings.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 995524] [NEW] Periodic X lockups on Dell Latitude E6320

2012-05-06 Thread Scott Kitterman
Public bug reported:

This has been happening once every day or two since I upgraded to
Precise. Next time it gets wedged and I'm somewhere I can ssh into it
and collect additional information, I'll be glad to.

The visible symptom is that the screen and mouse freeze (or if it
happens while I'm away from the computer it just doesn't come back on).
The keyboard is active at some level because the backlight still comes
on when you press a key. Switching to a VT does not, however.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently

2012-05-06 Thread Sentrist Starleaf
This also affects me. It seems to have a higher chance while browsing the web,
regardless of the browser I use.
When it freezes, nothing but the cursor responds. I am using drivers from
xorg-xserver-video-ati, no proprietary driver.

Ubuntu 12.04 32bit.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982485] Re: [regression] Nvidia 295.40: Unity 3D does not work at all with the new nvidia driver

2012-05-06 Thread Ben A
Fix Released? Could have fooled me. apt-get still wants to install the
same old broken driver and steadfastly insists that nothing newer is
available.

I had to manually download a deb from here:
https://launchpad.net/~suraia/+archive/ppa/+build/3464331

It did, however, solve my problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 995544] [NEW] Video corruption after login (GeForce 6150 LE)

2012-05-06 Thread Robert Lee
Public bug reported:

After upgrade from 11-10 to 12-04, no longer have video after login
screen.

Screen is Black with a couple of multi-color horizontal lines at the
bottom.

Mouse cursor displays, fine.

Ctrl-Alt-Backspace will momentarily flash a black desktop with icons,
then revert back to a black screen with the noise at the bottom.

Ctrl-Alt-F1 will get me to a terminal window.

From there, I have: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get ugrade

Some packages updated, but video is still corrupted.

Tried xrandr, but get: Can't open display
Tried glxinfo, but get: Error: unable to open display

lspci | grep VGA gives: NVIDIA Corporation C51 [GeForce 6150 LE] (rev
a2)

** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 995339] Re: Move notifications to main display

2012-05-06 Thread Alvaro Leal (Effenberg0x0)
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 possible-manual-nvidia-
install quantal reproducible running-unity single-occurrence ubuntu

** Description changed:

  Regards,
  Effenberg

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 980298] Re: [nvidia 295.40] compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in GLWindow::glDraw() from UnityMTGrabHandlesWindow::glDraw()

2012-05-06 Thread Paul
I noticed by looking at my logs and the changelog to the Nvidia-current
in the repo that the day nvidia-current was updated and released on
April 12, was the same day my nvidia crashed.

The change log with the changes are:
nvidia-graphics-drivers (295.40-0ubuntu1) precise; urgency=low

  * New upstream release:
- Added support for the following GPUs:
  o GeForce GT 635M
  o GeForce 610M
- SECURITY UPDATE: privilege escalation via kernel
  memory access (LP: #959842).
- Fixed a bug that caused DisplayPort devices to
occasionally fail to turn back on after the system
  is resumed from suspend.
- Added a ModeValidation X configuration option token,
AllowNon3DVisionModes, to allow modes that are not
optimized for NVIDIA 3D Vision to be validated on 3D
  Vision monitors.

I'd like to hear from Alberto Milone.

In other news, this has ticked me off so much, 1) major graphics
breakage days before a LTS release, lack of a reasonable fix, blaming
NVIDIA, etc, that I am testing another Linux OS.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-96 and nvidia-173 uninstallable on Precise

2012-05-06 Thread picomike
As Tom Cornell said in #24, my GeForce Go 7300 works now perfectly with
current nvidia drivers (using the /etc/environmet change to bypass the
blacklist), so at least this graphics card shouldn't be blacklisted
anymore. I didn't even try this before because in Oneiric, current
nvidia drivers caused compiz to freeze.

Thanks Tom. No need for 173 drivers now :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 947250] Re: System Restart on Intel MotherBoard DX58SO

2012-05-06 Thread Piyush Roy
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected precise ubuntu

** Description changed:

I am not sure how to reproduce it. But I found that the problem is
predominant when I enable power related options in the mother board
(DX58SO) like EIST and others. It seems some application loading or any
task initaition causes this system restart, this application or task
could be anything. Tha last time it happened when youtube video was
going to load (Firefox 10). I have never got the problem when the system
  is idle.

Addtionally, this bug is valid of all non LTS Ubuntu Versions.
