Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 247771] Re: [M4] Dell Inspiron 8000 shows split display on LiveCD
Yes probably a good idea the computer was so old that I recycled it. The problem maybe left though it should have little effect on anyone more than 12 years after it's launch. Från: Bryce Harrington 247...@bugs.launchpad.net Till: sankteper...@yahoo.com Skickat: lördag, 4 februari 2012 1:53 Ämne: [Bug 247771] Re: [M4] Dell Inspiron 8000 shows split display on LiveCD We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original bug reporter. However, if the issue still exists in the latest development version of Ubuntu and you are the original reporter please feel free to reopen with the requested information. If you are not the original reporter, please don't reopen this one but instead file a new bug and reference this one. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/247771 Title: [M4] Dell Inspiron 8000 shows split display on LiveCD Status in “xserver-xorg-video-ati” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: [Problem] On LiveCD boot, desktop is split into several unequally sized overlapping areas on the screen. Mobile drivers are not as common as desktop variants but today laptops are outselling desktops in most segments.I don't know what kind of experience Ubuntu would have given me on this old low spec hardware since the live cd may not have given it justice though i know that it would become e waste if it isn't possible to use it. It is really loud and flaming hot but it could work as some kind of server or backup to my other computers. Sure I'm mostly interested to know that it can work rather than that i need it to work still support would be a great thing. Under the Safe Graphics mode Ubuntu seem to be able to display the desktop correctly though not at full size\resolution. Rez 800x600 pixel What happened under the live cd was that the screen was corrupted with screwed desktop where it was wrongfully positioned and where it look like having a part of two desktops on one screen overlapping each other, though in reality and after investigation the screen were shopped up into three different fields and then thrown around so that when the pointer moved from one field to another the pointer might appear on a different part of the screen. The fields were not equally sized there were two-three bigger ones and one-two smaller ones. The CD was working very hard all the time as well as the CPU and many times the computer seemed to freeze though this could be just the poor performance of the live cd when i ran the hardware test in Gnome to send you a report which I decided would be easier to write by myself instead since it just didn't finish. It is very hard to get a feel for Ubuntu when things don't work or just barely works thus I want to say that improvements of the live CD is welcome. Also the loading screen of Ubuntu have a progress bar that moves back and forth this isn't really any helpful since you don't have any visual clues about how much is left in the loading process the same goes for when scanning hardware in the hardware test. Testing with Ubuntu 8.10 Appha 4 Intrepid Ibex: Both as Live CD and installed with Wubi: I've now tried using the computer with Intrepid Ibex and some improvement seem to have been made. For starters This is probably a combination of improvements to ATI drivers and the design of X.Org. The result is not the same for the live CD and when Ubuntu is installed through Wubi. Why this is I don't know. Crashes with Intrepid Ibex Alpha 4 under live CD wasn't able too boot all the way to GDM nor to the Ubuntu loading screen, This was displayed: Version number of Busybox and then ash and something called Initramfs and a prompt to write commands. When Intrepid Ibex Alpha 4 was installed with Wubi several errors appeared during boot up if this is the result of the unstable Alpha 4 or the physical CD I don't know. Though the praphical boot up could finish I noticed screen corruption during the Ubuntu boot screen where the progress indicator was duplicated and\or half visible on other places than the right

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 995570] [NEW] Wired PS/2 keyboard/mouse on Foxconn D270S Motherboard not responding in 12.04 Live CD or after install. Same hardware works flawlessly with 10.04
You have been subscribed to a public bug: My Wired PS/2 keyboard and mouse do not work in 12.04, either in a fresh install or from the Live CD. A USB keyboard and mouse will work. The PS/2 keyboard and mouse will work using the same hardware and a fresh 10.04 Ubuntu install or a fresh Windows 7 install. So far I've tried running in the fresh 12.04 install: sudo apt-get install sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get dist-upgrade After the apt-get upgraded the first time, I now get to the point where there are 0 items to be upgraded. Rebooted and still no PS/2 keyboard/mouse. I've also tried adding the following lines to GRUB at boot time (the PS/2 keyboard works in GRUB) acpi=noirq acpi=off Neither setting made any difference. The motherboard is a Foxconn D270S Atom based motherboard. Even more interestingly, 12.04 recognizes the same PS/2 keyboard and mouse on a separate Gigabyte AM3+ based motherboard. I only have this problem on this particular motherboard with Ubuntu 12.04. Update... I dug out an old PS/2 mouse that does not use a PS/2 to USB adapter but is directly wired for PS/2. Still no PS/2 keyboard or mouse after reboot. Again, I only have this problem with this motherboard and 12.04 Ubuntu. Other motherboards work fine with 12.04 and this motherboard works fine with 10.04. Update 2... I installed the 12.04 Server version. The text-based installer recognized the keyboard without issue, but after the first boot into the installed OS, the PS/2 keyboard would no longer respond. I tried installing Gnome on the Server install and the PS/2 mouse and keyboard don't work in Gnome either. --- AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently
Hi, I also have these random freezes (Pangolin 64 bit on a Acer 5720 laptop with Nvidia Graphics and the restricted / Closed source Nvidia driver installed). I have noticed though that it is 'only' the screenoutput that freezes/ comes to a halt. Yes, the mouse cursor still moves, but nothing else seems to happen. But as I was copying lots of files and my screen freezed I did not touch my system until I was confident that the copy process should be ready: in fact the control leds of my HD worked! and my Wifi indicator also worked (I was also downloading a file). After a while (led of HD and Wifi returned to idle) I switched off my system and rebooted the system. The files were copied correctly and my download was saved properly in my downloads directory. I have also noticed that starting any browser (Firefox / Chrome) will hang the system more quickly. I have also noticed that other 'screen- intensive' software like e.g. shotwell or any fotoviewer will cause the system to hang if used heavily. This bug seems to be highly related to screen output and apparantly nothing else. As Pdparo reports this on AMD Radeon as well (and even without the closed source driver installed) it is most likely not a problem directly caused by those drivers. I have noticed that my screens sometimes 'flashes' (on/off, but then very very fast) as it seems to refresh the screen. If you google this subject you will find lots of posts in forums as well: this seems to be a huge issue! I hope this information will help killing this nasty bug asap! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/993187/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 995913] [NEW] White desktop, no launcher icons
Public bug reported: After a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS from CD I experience the behavior described in bug #902670: The main desktop area is dead white. No display of anything except the pointer cursor. The launcher bar shows in some kind of purple, but without icons. Hovering the mouse over the launcher bar flashes 'tooltip' descriptions of what should be there. These extend over the white desktop. The top 'tray' bar shows with its proper icons. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: resume from suspend leaves me with black screen and a cursor
To add further clarification: - I experience the effects described in the initial report *any time* the lid is closed, with 100% reproducible results. Suspend, screen lock, etc. have no extra effect. Close the lid, X is completely locked up other than the mouse cursor. - I only started experiencing these effects after upgrading from 11.10 to 12.04. - I can switch to terminal mode (Ctrl Alt F1) and interact there. - Switching back to X (Ctrl Alt F7) returns me to the locked-up screen. Mouse still moves, but no interaction is possible. - If the setting for automatically locking the desktop when the screen turns off is enabled, I experience the black screen with mouse cursor result. If this setting is not enabled, I see a frozen version of whatever was last on screen. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/966744 Title: resume from suspend leaves me with black screen and a cursor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/966744/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 985065]
Unfortunately both xkm files are useless - they contain single us group (xkbcomp foobar.xkm -xkb out.xkb). Regarding the keymap file, in libxklavier: if (xkl_debug_level 500) { /* don't remove on high debug levels! */ if (remove(xkm_fn) So I was wrong - the file stays with debug level 500. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 968845] Re: bcm5974 touchpad doesn't work after S3 on MacBookAir
** Description changed: xorg-server SRU Justification = [Impact] When a laptop is suspended, X disables the input devices. If X believes the hardware has a button press when the device is disabled, it will not release the button on resume and device enabling. With tap to click turned out, the volatile mix of the touchpad and the LCD screen on lid closure can cause this problem on suspend/resume. [Development Fix] A one-line patch from upstream has been added to xorg-server 1.11.4-0ubuntu11. The patch can be seen in the SRU debdiff. It simply releases the buttons when an input device is disabled. [Stable Fix] The same one-line patch for the development fix has been made to xorg-server 1.11.4-0ubuntu10.2. Please see the attached xorg-server SRU debdiff. [Test Case] Close and open the lid to perform a suspend resume cycle on a MacBook Air. Repeat multiple times. Note that there will be issues until an SRU for xserver-xorg-input-synaptics is available too. [Regression Potential] Very minimal. The one-line change releases the buttons when an input device is disabled. It is a trivial fix. + + xserver-xorg-input-synaptics SRU Justification + == + [Impact] + When a laptop is suspended, X disables the input devices. The entire state of the device needs to be reset when the device is disabled so that it works properly when re-enabled. Without this fix, the trackpad may do odd things like behave as though there are active touches that no longer exist. This can manifest as scrolling with one finger, no cursor motion, and right clicking instead of left clicking. + + [Development Fix] + Upstream 1.6.0 has two patches that fix this specific issue, among other bug fixes. This has been uploaded to Quantal. + + [Stable Fix] + The Quantal 1.6.0 update has been uploaded for Precise and is identical to the Quantal package other than the Precise SRU version. The only changes from the previous package to the 1.6.0 package are various bug fixes. + + [Test Case] + Close and open the lid to perform a suspend resume cycle on a MacBook Air. Repeat multiple times. Ensure the trackpad continues to function properly.` + + [Regression Potential] + Minimal. The fixes for this patch are small and well-contained. The fixes for other issues in the upstream 1.6.0 release are also small and well-contained. Original Bug Report === I started seeing this immediately after installing updates that included xserver-xorg-input-synaptics from 1.5.99.901-0ubuntu2 to 1.5.99.902-0ubuntu1 and rebooting. When I initiate a suspend by closing the lid, after resuming the touchpad no longer works at all. I can see a stream of events by switching to a vt and running input events, and if I restart the display manager the touchpad starts working again. I do not see this issue if I initiate suspend from the menu, only when closing the lid.
