[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1001183] Re: can't reach console mode TTY + nvidia current
I am experiencing this same problem with Ubuntu 12.04, stable kernel 3.3.6, and NVIDIA driver 295.49 with GPU NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS. I arrived at this configuration as a result of instability caused by the stock 12.04 installation. I first had to install NVIDIA 302.07 beta driver after I experienced crippling repeated compiz crashes (was initially running onboard GeForce 7025/nForce 630a but since upgraded to the GeForce 8400GS). The 302.07 beta driver appeared to fix the compiz crash, as it appeared to be a bug in the NVIDIA 295.40 driver that was the cause. However, about a week ago after performing recommended Ubuntu software updates including a kernel upgrade, I started having multiple applications crashing in sequence and frequent system freezes where nothing was responsive and a hard boot was required. I upgraded to kernel 3.3.6 tonight after reding some forum posts of others having similar problems, and this wiped out my NVIDIA 302.07 driver and defaulted to the VESA driver at lower screen resolution (I have a 1920x1080 LCD monitor). I was able to install nvidia-current which is now version 295.49, however I cannot see my text terminals when entering from desktop with Ctrl-Alt-F1 etc. (only enters black screen with a thin magenta bar across the top of the screen as described above), and I cannot enter grub by holding Shift at startup. I have tried purging and reinstalling grub, I have tried editing grub config to manually set screen resolution, all to no avail. I would like to reinstall the 302.07 beta driver and build a kernel module for this kernel, but it appears I have no way to enter Recovery mode or text terminal to turn off lightdm and run the NVIDIA installer. Any help fixing the grub screen resolution so that text terminal is visible would be greatly appreciated. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1001183 Title: can't reach console mode TTY + nvidia current To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/1001183/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 634648] Re: Saved settings are not used after log in/reboot/x server reboot
This looks like an xrandr issue. Output from xrandr shows that the highest and default resolution it detects is 1920x1080 @ 50hz. But my native resolution for my monitor is 1920x1080 @ 60hz, so it makes sense why it keeps resetting to what xrandr lists as the default, but it's a pain having to manually change it each session: 1920x1080 50.0*51.0 52.0 53.0 54.0 55.0 56.0 57.0 58.0 1680x1050 59.0 60.0 1600x1024 61.0 1440x900 62.0 63.0 1440x576 64.0 1440x480 65.0 1400x1050 66.0 67.0 68.0 1360x768 69.0 70.0 1280x1024 71.0 72.0 73.0 1280x960 74.0 75.0 1280x800 76.0 1280x720 77.0 78.0 1152x864 79.0 80.0 81.0 82.0 83.0 84.0 85.0 1024x768 86.0 87.0 88.0 89.0 90.0 91.0 960x72092.0 93.0 960x60094.0 960x54095.0 928x69696.0 97.0 896x67298.0 99.0 840x525 100.0101.0102.0103.0104.0 832x624 105.0 800x600 106.0107.0108.0109.0110.0111.0112.0 113.0114.0115.0 800x512 116.0 720x576 117.0 720x480 118.0 720x450 119.0 720x400 120.0 700x525 121.0122.0123.0124.0 680x384 125.0126.0 640x512 127.0128.0129.0 640x480 130.0131.0132.0133.0134.0135.0136.0 137.0 640x400 138.0 640x350 139.0 576x432 140.0141.0142.0143.0144.0145.0146.0 512x384 147.0148.0149.0150.0151.0 416x312 152.0 400x300 153.0154.0155.0156.0157.0 360x200 158.0 320x240 159.0160.0161.0162.0 320x200 163.0 320x175 164.0 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-settings in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/634648 Title: Saved settings are not used after log in/reboot/x server reboot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-settings/+bug/634648/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1004570] Re: Ubuntu picks wrong monitor to use when booting
Ok I looked it up. if that is the case it not working with all the 3. kernels. 11.10, 12.04 and parted magic, might even be ubcd as well. haven't tried it., new version of gparted . For some reason the intel graphics from 2010 that came with 1st generation I3, I5, and I7 processors seem to be effected. I do not know if new generation's are effected or it's just my gateway nv7922u laptop. My laptop has a I5 M430, 4 gigs of memory, intel HD graphics version 12. I can not use parted magic 5.0 and up, blank screen, gparted 0.5.1-1 works, 0.6.4-1 blank screen. I haven't updated gparted iso very often. the 0.5.1-1 worked just fine, but I did down load the 0.6.4-1 to work in virtual box. I can't let you know, if 10.10 worked or 11.04 I never downloaded the ISO. I decided with 8.04 to just stay with the LTS version. To get the ISO to work I have to press the F4 key constantly to get the main menu, then F6 and NOAPIC, see my post on UBUNTU under DWADE I just had a problem were with windows 7 virtual in 12.04 that it locked 12.04 up. I had downloaded something, I am still searching., but it destroyed my linux swap file, and corrupted the MBR. Had to get my 500 gig orginal hard drive put in laptop I have a 640 gig installed (Oh! another problem Linux or it's Ubuntu will not recognize above a 400 gig secondary partition, had to change it 400, in stead of 500 same with a usb 750 I have) gparted said no partition, used partition commander and gave it a new MBR and found swap file gone. Repair the disk change UUID's of both 11.10 and 12.04 to new swap file. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1004983] [NEW] Current Precise: TTY freezes, DVI stops working
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I've been running up-to-date stable for a few releases. Since a few days my system freezes. Maybe it's been since installing and booting into linux-image-3.2.0-24-generic, but I'm not sure. When I leave, I exit X.org, drop into TTY1 and log out there. When returning, my monitor won't find a DVI signal any mroe. Plugging DVI out and back in returns video output, but the boot log screen. I am unable to switch between TTYs or log in. SSH still works and everything seems to run fine. But without being able to log in locally, I have no chance but to reboot. This is highly annoying, and really new. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1005167] [NEW] Double click on a folder in a Nautilus window is very slow
Public bug reported: Since I have changed the NVidia graphic card driver from the proprietary to the open source nouveau, I have a strange problem with the response time of Nautilus and some other applications. For instance if I double click on a folder to open it, Nautilus is very slow. I have to wait more than 10 sec to have the folder opened. However, I have found by accident that if I move the mouse pointer outside the Nautilus window, the response time is very short as normally expected. It's like if moving the mouse outside a window, it forces in some manner the refresh of the window. I know that this sound complicated, so I have recorded for you a short video (attached here), to demonstrate the issue. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1005185] [NEW] Keystrokes get repeated one time too often
Public bug reported: Sometimes, keystrokes such as Cursor-Left get repeated one time too often. E.g., when I have this text: a| where my cursor is |, when I press the left arrow on the keyboard and stop pressing it between a and b, the cursor halts there (as expected). About half a second later, it steps to the left once more. This can be observed in different applications, e.g. in gedit and in vim running in guake. As I'm writing this, it does not seem to be present in chromium. The behaviour is not reliable, it seems to depend on the exact timing of the key up event. This is a regression, as the problem started with an upgrade to precise. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 934770] Re: [MASTER] Trackpad behavior change causes tap-and-drag to lock
I'm experiencing several erratic behaviors with the mouse in 12.04 64 bits. Don't know if they are related to this bug report... Should I file another report? Some examples: 1. In libreoffice Calc, if I hover the mouse over the zoom control bar in the bottom right corner of Calc's window, the mouse grabs the zoom control by itself. If I move the mouse left and right, without ever touching its buttons, it drags the zoom control left and right. 2. In libreoffice Calc, if I left-click a tab other than the currently selected one, the new tab is selected as expected, but the mouse behaves as if the clicked button stuck. When I move the mouse after selecting another tab, the mouse cursor changes to the arrow with the little rectangle, as if it was dragging a cell. 3. In Chromium, if I right-click a link and left-click Open link in new tab, the mouse behaves as if the left-click stuck. When I move the mouse after selecting the new tab, the mouse cursor changes to the little hand grabbing a sheet, as if I was moving the link. 4. In Chromium, if I middle-click a link to open it in a new tab and then left-click the newly opened tab, the mouse cursor changes to the cross with arrowed points (the move window cursor) and the window is restored, as if I started to drag it and let it go right after. Are these problems related to this bug or should I file another? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 932947] Re: [FFe] ClickPad support
Have finally had a chance to come back to this, but have decided that I'm not going to be able to use the Xorg-edgers repo, since this is a work laptop, and I cannot risk any form of instability :- / afaict, the X-swat team doesn't have the relevant package for precise just yet... so I guess I'm going to have to wait until it filters down to the official repo? apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 precise ubuntu ** Description changed: Using a regular 2011 imac 21,5 with AMD radeon hd 6770m and ubuntu 12.04 mac specific 64bits; installing the 'additional drivers' non post update fglrx, be it with an updated system or not, results in a black screen at the next ubuntu login screen; ubuntu recovery failsafex cannot initiate ubuntu anymore saying ''no suitable screen were found'; only by just loadind ubuntu recovery and type reboot at recovery command line mode can I acess ubuntu partition once only, before having to repeat the process. In rare cases one must also type 'aticonfig --initial' to login once at ubuntu before it returning to the black screen state at the next boot. The only way to get out of the blackscreen for the procedures above is by rebooting the mac using its powerbutton. fglrx 'post-update' do not even install, being the system updated or not. AMD site radeon driver from the site does not work if an ubuntu specific package is generated(it also seems this is the package used by ubuntu); only the plain non ubuntu AMD driver install to Xorg truly works(no more black screens), the distorted ubuntu initial logo before login shows the driver was truly recognized(nvidia also distorts the logo when recognized), also the solution mentioned only works if you have a clean install of ubuntu(the home folder does not matter, no clean install of /home is needed) The ati driver package at ubuntu repository from software center seems to be the regular fglrx non post update, so, same results. The Ubuntu Open source driver works, but is slower even to get a login screen, also it is useless for true 3d graphics(like games) for my video card model(AMD radeon hd 6770m). For drivers which were 'tested by ubuntu developers' me and countless others expected more. - I cannot test this right now, as to test this I should wreck my ubuntu - desktop again; and my internet connection isn't restored yet(very low - speeds); and the testing is a bit dangerous to my hardware I guess, as I - got a very soft 'stain' at my screen, exactly where the ubuntu unity - left dock use to stay(perfectly at the dock right limits) which persists - though mac boot and my OS X system and which only appeared after the - several video driver attempts above. + I cannot test this right now, as to test this I should wreck my ubuntu desktop again; and my internet connection isn't restored yet(very low speeds); and the testing is a bit dangerous to my hardware I guess, as I got a very soft 'stain' at my screen, exactly where the ubuntu unity left dock use to stay(perfectly at the dock right limits) which persists though mac boot and my OS X system and which only appeared after the several video driver attempts above. + --- + .tmp.unity.support.test.0: + + ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu5 + Architecture: amd64 + CompizPlugins: [core, composite, opengl, compiztoolbox, decor, vpswitch, snap, mousepoll, resize, place, move, wall, grid, regex, imgpng, session, gnomecompat, animation, fade, unitymtgrabhandles, workarounds, scale, expo, ezoom, unityshell] + CompositorRunning: compiz + DistUpgraded: Fresh install + DistroCodename: precise + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 + DistroVariant: ubuntu + ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, whatever it takes to get this fixed in Ubuntu + GraphicsCard: + Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2010] + Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Whistler XT [AMD Radeon HD 6700M Series] [1002:6740] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) +Subsystem: Apple Inc. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1004546] Re: Black screen at login after any ubuntu AMD radeon driver install
Strangely today, with just the amd site base radeon driver install directly to xorg(which was working) the same problems happened, and yet again, recovery failsafe x refused to start saying 'no screens found', just the initial configuration which the recovery mode do plus terminal 'reboot' worked to fix that(temporary fix maybe?) , currently I do not know if the issue will too start to happen with the base amd radeon driver install from AMD site, hopefully not, as it is the last option for a fully working radeon video card on ubuntu 12.04. As I said before, at the next month I will test this again but with the ubuntu driver package(which has the same issue above, so expect the same results), I will do the test with the ubuntu package without updating the system, as it is important to get this working already with a clean install, do you agree? Also, verify if there is already an identifiable issue at the apport provided above. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1004546 Title: Black screen at login after any ubuntu AMD radeon driver install To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1004546/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1005321] [NEW] Several pointing device related problems occur when a touchscreen is installed
Public bug reported: I'm running Kubuntu 12.04 64 bits on a Dell Inspiron One 2320, which has a touchscreen. Whenever the touchscreen is active, several weird problems related to the pointing device show up. Some examples: 1. In Libreoffice Calc, if I hover the mouse over the zoom control bar in the bottom right corner of Calc's window, the mouse grabs the zoom control by itself, without me clicking any button. If I move the mouse left and right, without ever touching its buttons, it drags the zoom control left and right. 2. In Libreoffice Calc, if I left-click a tab other than the currently selected one, the new tab is selected as expected, but the mouse behaves as if the clicked button had stuck. When I move the mouse after selecting another tab, the mouse cursor changes to the arrow with the little rectangle, as if it was dragging a cell. 3. In Chromium, if I right-click a link and left-click Open link in new tab, the mouse behaves as if the left-click stuck. When I move the mouse after opening the new tab, the mouse cursor changes to the little hand grabbing a sheet, as if I was moving the clicked link. 4. In Chromium, if I middle-click a link to open it in a new tab and then left-click the newly opened tab, the mouse cursor changes to the cross with arrowed points (the move window cursor) and the window is restored, as if I had started to drag it and let it go right after. 5. In Handbrake, when a dialog opens, hovering the mouse over its text without pressing any button selects the text. Until now I haven't noticed similar problems with native KDE applications, except that in Kontact/KMail the mouse cursor image does not change according to the context (arrow cursor, text insertion cursor, etc.). Besides, there are several other problems related to the touchscreen itself: 1. I can drag objects around the screen using the touchscreen, but I can't click anywhere. When I tap the touchscreen to click, the mouse cursor goes under my finger, but as long as I stop touching the cursor goes to some random place of the screen and the click is not registered. 2. While I'm dragging objects using the touchscreen or while I'm drawing in Gimp or Kolourpaint using the touchscreen, the mouse cursor keeps jumping down and going back to where my finger is. For example, if I'm drawing an horizontal line with my finger, what I really get on the screen is almost a filled in rectangle, because as I slide the finger to one side, the mouse jumps down drawing a vertical line and then goes back to my finger and keeps doing that while I'm sliding my finger horizontally. I get several vertical lines very close to each other. If I'm dragging a window horizontally, it keeps jumping down and up again while I'm sliding the finger horizontally on the touchscreen. 3. Multitouch does not work After I got these results, I installed the following packages: utouch and its dependencies xinput-calibrator They made no difference at all. I then tried the following package: xserver-xorg-input-tslib After a reboot, this package disabled the touchscreen completely (?!) and that was how I found out that the problems with Libreoffice, Chromium, Handbrake and Kontact/KMail mentioned above were related to the touchscreen. All problems were gone, but no touchscreen either. Before I installed this package, xinput --list returned one device named Quanta OpticalTouchScreen. After I installed the package, xinput --list shows two devices with exactly this name and the touchscreen stopped responding. Then I removed the previous package and installed this one: xserver-xorg-input-multitouch Which made no difference at all. The system returned to the previous state, i.e., the touchscreen is responding but all the above mentioned problems are back. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 952521] Re: Screen blanking and dpms can't be turned off
Jonathan, my blanking problem started immediately after xsettings-kde (0.12.3-0ubuntu2) was upgraded (0.12.3-0ubuntu2.1) last Friday. My 64bit precise installation display screen has been working perfectly since I installed Precise after the Alpha release.Xsettings-kde was the only upgrade on last Friday which was related to the xserver. All the others were related to the cups package. Another thing I have tried is to set the powersave parameter of the i915 kernel module: options i915 powersave=0 and that appeared to work for a while. I set it at around 2pm Saturday and after a reboot the screen did not blank for the rest of the day, till shutdown around 11pm.However, I booted up about 8pm tonight (Sunday) and about 10pm the blanking resumed. To keep the blanking off I have to open a Konsole and issue xset dpms 0 0 0 followed by xset -dpms and keep the Konsole open but minimized to keep out of my way. I should add that I am running KDE 4.8.3 from the Ubuntu launchpad ppa, which I installed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/952521 Title: Screen blanking and dpms can't be turned off To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/952521/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
