[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 980519] Re: Random log off in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

2012-06-14 Thread CBnation
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 973096 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973096

Same here, also Nvidia.

However, there are 2 users defined on my computer. With my login, I have
never encountered the problem since I upgraded 2 months ago but my
daughter, who has her own user account, experiences this very often. So
same machine, but only one user is affected. The only difference between
the two accounts is the language setting. If I login, the PC runs in
English, but when she logs in it runs in Dutch.

In terms of programs used, we both watch you tube and other flash based
movies. So no difference there.

appears. On a different machine with same hardware the error does not
occur any more. Strange.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 999910] Re: [IVB]12.04 64 bit System freezes (mouse, keyboard)

2012-06-14 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Carl: that commit is in 3.3.6 and 3.2.17.

3.4-rc2 seems stable here so far, too bad that the fix is likely in the
-rc1 set which is quite big to bisect (and a bit more work since the
kernels need to be built)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1011994] Re: Connecting / disconnecting DisplayPort often causes crash

2012-06-14 Thread Matt Muschol
I have the same problem on a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. It occasionally
did that on 11.10, but since the 12.04 upgrade, it does it virtually
every time.

Note that this week I installed 12.04 from scratch to see if it improves
it, but the situation is still the same.

The only workaround I have found is to power off before
connecting/disconnecting an external display.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 917159] Re: EOG do crash xserver session when opening image

2012-06-14 Thread tolostoi
I think, thre is a fix released :)
In dev branch

 lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu quantal (development branch)
Release:12.10
Codename: quantal

Now with attached image no problem with crash.

** Tags added: apport-collected quantal single-occurrence

** Description changed:

I don't know where is the problem :( I read Xorg.0.log, but nothing
interesting in. When opening image with eog (image shoot with nokia n9
phone) the Xserver crashed. When open image with gimp, everything is
normal. I atached one of the problematic images, after make corections
to file with gimp (because in image have personal things) still crashed
  the session.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1000944] Re: package fglrx (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-06-14 Thread bugbot
We're closing this bug since there has not been a response from the original
reporter. However, the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the
requested information. If you're not the original reporter, we'd prefer you
file a new bug report.

Some tips:

  * Report X.org bugs via the command:  `ubuntu-bug xorg`

  * Test against the latest development Ubuntu.
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/
Bugs marked as affecting the development version tend to get priority
attention.

  * The `xdiagnose` utility has functionality for enabling debugging and
analyzing a few common X problems.

  * Tag your bugs with the Ubuntu versions you have reproduced the issue
in.

  * See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting for tips on writing good bug
reports.

2012-06-14 Thread Dave Lentz
Thanks for reporting, but this is not a bug with the nvidia driver. You
should not install the nvidia driver directly on systems that have both
an intel and nvidia GPU (a.k.a. Optimus or hybrid graphics).

I suggest you purge the nvidia drivers and use bumblebee:

2012-06-14 Thread andre_f
I had the same problem with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64bits and a Nvidia GTX580.
I don't want to jinx it.but I tested several solutions
(including the 290.10 version), and the only way to overcome the problem
was by installing the latest Nvidia drives, available at:

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=2557224

I dont have a single crash for 3 days Hope this helps!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-96 and nvidia-173 uninstallable on Precise

2012-06-14 Thread Maarten Fonville
The new version is now also available in Debian:
http://packages.debian.org/sid/xserver-xorg-video-nvidia-legacy-173xx

Can Alberto Milone please also put this driver in the Ubuntu
repositories, so that Precise will finally become usable for those of us
with older hardware? nVidia did their bit, now it is Canonical's time to
do theirs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013038] [NEW] Suspend does not work reliably without nomodeset

2012-06-14 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have a really common laptop an Acer Extensa 5220 with integrated Intel
VGA GM965. I remeber suspend working perfectly with Ubuntu 10.04. Now
fiddling a lot I found how to make it work reliabily again: adding
nomodeset at the boot. That disable the composition windows manager and
I am currently using Ubuntu-2d. I now that this workaround is a bit hard
but I really _NEED_ suspend and I can't afford a freeze with the
potetially loosing of my data.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982863] Re: [i945gm] False GPU lockup EIR: 0x00000010 PGTBL_ER: 0x00000013

2012-06-14 Thread Martin Wildam
Is this somewhat related to bug #981297 ?
Because I get those on a fresh install (laptop always open - not closed as
mentioned in that bug) with all updates applied I still get those a few seconds
or a minute after login - all-the-time. Don't want to completely disable apport
completely as I am willing to report bugs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1004843] Re: cant boot after installing fglrx on ubuntu 12.04

2012-06-14 Thread Dave Lentz
Thanks for reporting, but this is not a bug with fglrx. This happens
because you are using a custom Xserver from a PPA. The version of fglrx
(8.960) found in Ubuntu Precise/12.04 does not support Xserver 1.12.x

You'll either need to revert to the Xserver found in the Precise
repository or install the Catalyst 12-6 beta (which adds Xserver 1.12
support): http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=MTExMTU

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013167] [NEW] Recursive apport message GPU lockup EIR: 0x00000010 PGTBL_ER: 0x00100000 after login

2012-06-14 Thread Martin Wildam
Public bug reported:

On each boot after login I get - after 30 seconds to 2 mintes - an
apport message about a gpu lockup which never occured:

GPU lockup EIR: 0x0010 PGTBL_ER: 0x0010

There are similar bug reports around with same or similar number but
slightly different circumstances so I decided to file a new bug because
I read in bug report documentation that for X issues this is the
prefered method if not sure about the cause.

I have two laptops (Dell Latitude E-5500 with the same hardware). On one
the error was also there at the beginning but then accidently
disappeared. Second one - fresh install - now gets the same error
message.

E.g. Bug #981297 is such a similar bug.

It is very likely a fake message because everything looks fine - GPU is
working and did not crash or freeze.
