Thanks for the info... Playing a bit with it, I realized that the issue is actually related to using a .Xmodmap file. When I remove it from $HOME the issue is gone but it comes back as soon as I create a new .Xmodmap (which is important for me to get catalan characters in a us keyboard). ** Summary changed: - xorg temporarily reaches high cpu usage (90%-100%) after resume + .Xmodmap file makes xorg temporarily reach high cpu usage (90%-100%) after resume or when coming back from tty to X session -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/998310 Title: .Xmodmap file makes xorg temporarily reach high cpu usage (90%-100%) after resume or when coming back from tty to X session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/998310/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1010947] Re: Gnome screen crashed after update
I had more than enough reasons to mark this as a security bug. It was what I saw to be its potential for intrusion and exploitation. I'm positive if you only considered any given bug's security status according to their confirmed "evidence" of enabling users for attacks you'd be missing on the most vulnerable, critical access points, which so explains why I reported this bug immediately. On the other hand, the Bryce Harrington thought the information provided was not sufficient for a proper report. I believe I provided more than sufficient information for a well-prepared developer to trace its origins, else Mr. Harrington is far too incompetent to understand so. I suggest for you to locate a Latin American developer and forward this report to him; I'm of the mind that he would see more than sufficient information herein, and might in turn know how to fix it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1010947 Title: Gnome screen crashed after update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1010947/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987933] [NEW] Ubuntu 12.04 shutdown hangs with proprietary nVidia driver
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Basically, if I shutdown soon after login on, my system shuts down and powers off ok but it I use the system for any prolonged time and try to shutdown, it hangs at the very last minuites. Based on the advice from Bug #985471, I modified /etc/default/grub, changing GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="reboot=pci quiet splash" Having done this, I am able to reboot my system however long I have been using it. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
Michael: To clarify, it is the 3.2.0-23-lowlatency kernel that doesn't crash. The generic kernel does. The exact procedure is to go into Synaptic Package Manager (install it if you don't have it), search for all instances of 3.2.0-25 and have it removed. The next thing to do is to search for the 3.2.0-23 lowlatency kernel, taking care to avoid the PAE kernel unless you're running a 64 bit system., and install: linux-headers-3.2.0-23 linux-headers-3.2.0-23-lowlatency linux-image-3.2.0-23-lowlatency You will definitely need to restart after that. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 794474] Re: latitude e6420 screen flickering (sandy bridge intel video card)
For your information: This bug exists obviously on more machines than one, but not on all Dell Latitude e6420 machines, but on some others. I guess it has something to do with the video card installed, anyway, I already filed a bug report back in 3/2011. Upstream bug: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35812 I'm currently on trying to reproduce the error for Daniel Vetter on 3.5-rc4. If it is still reproducable, we will try to track down this bug. Background: In times pre-3.2, this happened during KMS. It did not happen with kernel 3.2.8 (no clue why!). I am not sure about 3.3, since I never used 3.3 (did stay with 3.2.8 - it worked). Since 3.4 it happens (for me) only on X login, not at KMS stage! What KMS and the X-Login (on KDE) have in common? A resolution change. KMS changes the screen resolution, KDM is displayed afterwrads (in a wrong resolution), and after login it does set the resolution to the chosen one, where I personally get stripes today. I am not using ubuntu but chakra, so this is definitely no ubuntu issue, but an upstream one. I tried that with arch and fedora as well - same results. The situation has gotten better, but it seems the bug we formerly had in the KMS is now in the X11 resolution change. Even though, I could not reproduce it (yet) changing resolution after I logged in successfully. @Screen Flickering: This is NOT an issue, the screen won't break! I have had it running having the stripes for a day(!), and ye, it did flicker a lot afterwards. If you leave your laptop alone, shut down, it will not flicker after a few hours of resting. Since this bug got more attention now again by the intel guys (always very helpful and nice I gotta' say), I hope we can track it down for future kernel versions. Hope this helps to accept the bug report and get it to [upstream]. Maybe some others are willing to help as well. ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #35812 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35812 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/794474 Title: latitude e6420 screen flickering (sandy bridge intel video card) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/794474/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987153] Re: Xorg freeze
For the problem I am having, I don't have any issue if my monitors do not go to sleep i.e. I turn off the KDE option to turn off the monitors when the system is idle (I think KDE is turning off DPMS in the background). I also do not have any issue if I turn off KDE desktop effects before the monitors go to sleep, so it appears to be something related to Xorg being in a mode that uses the 3D part of the video driver i.e. OpenGL etc. One last point -- I think you are right about the root cause being the video card going into power save mode, since if the monitors go to sleep but I wake them up within a few seconds, there is no issue. It is only if I wake them up after some time that the EQ overflows. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 952521] Re: Screen blanking and dpms can't be turned off
I am having the exact same problem on one of my two laptops. First, please note I am not using Ubuntu or Kubuntu. I am running Arch Linux. I know this isn't an Arch Linux bug reporter, but wanted to note that this might be an upstream issue due to my having the problem on a different distribution. Another thing worth noting is that my laptop with Intel graphics doesn't seem to be bothered by this bug (though I only use that laptop around once a week or less). My Nvidia laptop has this issue. So I'm thinking: Either this is a KDE bug, or an Nvidia bug. Are you guys running Nvidia? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1016054] Re: travamento
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1017925] [NEW] Xorg.conf edits by amdconfig break X Server
Public bug reported: Hi. I have installed the closed source AMD Drivers, as adviced by Jockey (Additional Drivers GUI). As stated in the AMD Catalyst installation guide, I run (I have a dual GPU 5970): sudo amdconfig --initial --adapter=all Doing so generates a xorg.conf file in /etc/X11/. The xorg.conf generated by this command configures two monitors, but I connected only one. After that I reboot and log back in. If I move the mouse pointer on the far right of the monitor it disappears because xorg thinks that there is another monitor, as stated in the xorg.conf file. If I run AMD Catalyst Control Center, it correctly finds that I have only one monitor connected and modifies the xorg.conf accordingly. It seems legit to me but the system hangs with a purple screen before the login screen. I think it's a regression because I have installed the proprietary driver as suggested by Jockey. Thanks. I'll attach the two xorg.conf files.
