[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
@Steve Riley: No offense, but this is ridiculous. You're assuming that just because the symptoms are a bit different, that we're dealing with more than one bug. It's not out of the question to consider that one bug could affect different systems different ways. This line of thinking may be what's holding you back and the reason why no results have been achieved. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1021019] Re: generic wireless mouse not working
We generally ask bug reporters to first request that the driver or patch be added to the upstream kernel. This can be done by mailing the Linux Kernel Mailing List or opening a bug at bugzilla.kernel.org. People affected by this bug are probably wondering why the kernel team doesn't just add the patch and fix it. The reason is that the kernel team is reluctant (not opposed) to apply any patch/driver to a kernel that is not from upstream. Applying patches and adding drivers that don't come from upstream add greatly to the support of the kernel as other upstream patches/drivers may touch the same area as the non- upstream patch and may prevent them from applying cleanly. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-mouse in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1021019 Title: generic wireless mouse not working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1021019/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1021770] [NEW] USB Keyboard works occasionally
Public bug reported: A few days ago I bought a SL640 Hama USB keyboard to use on my laptop with Ubuntu 12.04. But I'm having problems, as it works one time out of 10! On my laptop I have also Win7 in dual boot. And I have to say that it always works on it. And on my girlfriend's laptop, with Win Vista, always works. Here are some infos: ~$ lsusb Bus 006 Device 003: ID 04d9:1503 Holtek Semiconductor, Inc. Shortboard Lefty As you can see, the OS recognized it but the keyboard doesn't react ... even the Caps Lock and Num Lock keys don't blink. Regarding the legacy support (useful for GRUB), I have found no entry in the BIOS. But I'm not interested in it. I just want to use it in Ubuntu. However, in GRUB it works sometimes. Surprisingly, now I have booted my laptop: the usb keyboard hasn't worked in GRUB but it has worked since the ubuntu login! And now I'm typing with it. Well.. it means that Ubuntu has the right drivers and they work. But how to load them always correctly? thanks in advance! -- Another example. After several plug/unplug actions, now it works. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
Nothing's holding me back...not sure what you mean by that? If you look through all the comments in this bug, you'll see that the variety of systems and symptoms is so varied that it's difficult for the developers to find anything common. Some people experience complete and total freezes, where every process stops: no mouse, no clock, no ability to SSH into the box, total dead-ness. Others experience something less than a total freeze: mouse still moves, can access via SSH. Some people have Intel graphics. Some people have AMD or nVidia. Some people seem to relate the freeze to USB peripheral activity. Also, I don't think it's correct that the kernel update has fixed the problem for *everyone*. I've tried every single kernel, and all of them have frozen up at one point. Given all that, it's reasonable to state that this particular bug report is probably not too useful anymore. I'm not denying that there's a problem. But I can't believe that a single bug is responsible for everything that's been reported here. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1021924] [NEW] Multiple Displays not working on Core i7 3770S + Intel DQ77MK motherboard
Public bug reported: I have an Intel DQ77MK motherboard, which has 2 DVI connectors, and a Core i7 3770S IvyBridge CPU. Under Ubuntu 12.04, the multiple display support does not work, and I am stuck with a single display. The second screen only shows all pixels as 100% red. Enabling the second screen in Displays in System Settings does allow me to move windows and the mouse cursor to that screen, though I cannot actually see anything on it, as everything is red. For now I have had to force it to mirror displays, to avoid moving things to the second screen. Also, on the daily live image for Quantal, the system appears to freeze when X starts, and I am left with the primary screen being black, and the secondary screen being full red. The plymouth framebuffer is a fuzzy green image, and everything turns black when X comes up. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
Hello Sorry for my English (translated by Google) I built and sold computers mainly Ubuntu. Many comments have nothing to do with the bug that affects us. (black screen etc ...) Some wifi and Ethernet cards can also cause the system freeze. But then these are the new processor with the new chipset! Finally here's what I can bring as track. The gel system is done primarily using the browser (firefox, chrome ...) Sometimes evince! More mouse or keyboard, so brutally shutdown. The equipment: Gigabyte, Asus, Asrock, MSI chipset B75 H77 Z77 Processor Ivy Bridge and Sandy Bridge (no problem for them under the former Z68 chipset B75 H67) The problem is so new motherboard chipset backwards compatible Sandy and Ivy bridge and use the integrated graphics card (HD2000, HD2500, HD3000, HD4000) I do not understand what Canonical can not afford to buy a motherboard and a processor of the third generation to see for themselves the bug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 958279] Re: FGLRX DPMS support totally broken, fails to wake up the monitor after putting it to sleep.
Hi, * I leave a low voltage LED display plugged in to the card using the DisplayPort connection and that's permanently turned on. *I'm using Debian packaged fglrx version 12-6-2/8.98.2. * DPMS (thank you for that tip), KDE (4.8.4)'s power management and screen saver are turned off. About 50% of the time the LED screen is still showing my desktop when I get up in the mornings or come home from work; the rest of the time it's blank. Sometimes you can turn your back on the screen for just a few minutes and its blank. Of those blank screens 20% of them don't recover; so far I'm on a winning streak betting with myself if the display is going to work. Similarly, if my house mate turns of the LED display then the Radeon HD 6950 goes in to deep sleep without recovering. I can connect through SSH with my Android phone or tablet and sudo shutdown; as sometimes a reboot isn't enough to bring the card out of sleep. It takes 2-5mins for the xorg process to finish, during that time the process hits 100% of single threaded CPU utilization. The .xsession- errors log file often has lots of DBus errors. Mostly I issue a kill -9 just to speed the up the shutdown. Getting rid of the Debian package firmware-linux-nonfree which contains the BIOS blobs for these cards for the Radeon driver made a significant improvement from the almost always doesn't recover to now if the LED display is sleeping and I turn the projector (HDMI) on, more often than not both displays will work. Public bug reported: Hi, I will like to report that ATI Radeon 9550SE (RV350) has a problem when performing ACPI S3 State resume in Intel D815EEA2 mainboard. When I put the computer into Suspend and try to resume, the computer will wake up, but the screen will display some colorful random gjunk. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 442932] Re: Linux Mint 7 Crash?
By judging from the screenshot and the timing of the onset, I'd say this is a hardware error. Apparently this is a known issue with this laptop: http://zipmypc.com/hardware-issues/diplsy-problem-charge-toshiba-m200/ http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Video-Display/lcd-problem-toshiba-satellite-m200/td-p/97667 http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=55131 It could be something like the GPU, a serial driver or the lcd screen itself. I vote the serial driver... especially if it's of brand National Semiconductor... :( (they had it coming...) As this is a hardware problem, Linux Mint 7 is long gone, the OP doesn't seem to be active on Launchpad and the Toshiba in question most likely is in a cupboard somewhere, I close this thread as invalid.
