[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 983146] Re: [sandybridge-m-gt2+] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0xd208b6d0

2012-07-08 Thread Jose Blanca
I've tried to install the kernel packages several times, but with no luck.
Althoug they seem to be just fine, they do not appear in grub when I reboot. I
just have the option to launch the 3.4 kernel.
Here you have the log:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1021924] Re: Multiple Displays not working on Core i7 3770S + Intel DQ77MK motherboard

2012-07-08 Thread Rodney Dawes
Also, I am seeing some drawing problems in GTK+ apps now. I'm not sure
if it's a driver or theme problem, though. It was working fine before
the nvidia purge. Have mostly noticed it in pidgin as it's always
running, visible and mostly idle.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 971783] Re: 3 touch taps and clicks are broken

2012-07-08 Thread h1repp
You can remedy this as well. Just put a script (user/group: root/root,
executable) within the /etc/pm/sleep.d/ directory, the name starting
with anything between 00 and 49, e.g. 01_enable_middleclick and
following the instructions in /usr/share/doc/pm-utils/HOWTO.hooks.gz;
this will be executed as root whenever the systems suspends or
hibernates or resumes from either. Within this script call another
script (e.g. /usr/local/sbin/enable_middleclick) as your username using
su:

 #!/bin/bash
 case $1 in
thaw|resume)
su -c - yourusername /usr/local/sbin/enable_middleclick
;;
*)
;;
 esac
 exit $?

The referenced script /usr/local/sbin/enable_middleclick reads:

 #!/bin/bash
 DISPLAY=:0 synclient TapButton3=2

This ensures synclient knows where to apply the settings. That way three
finger tap middle click even works after suspend or hibernation. Its a
shame on has to resort to such nasty tricks to circumvent Unity's
greediness as this bug should have been fixed within this package (one
option to turn off the three tap feature would have been enough).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1021924] Re: Multiple Displays not working on Core i7 3770S + Intel DQ77MK motherboard

2012-07-08 Thread Rodney Dawes
Also, I've enabled the xorg-edgers PPA and upgraded Xorg. The theme
issue mentioned in comment #5 may be due to this, but I'm unsure. I also
tried kernel 3.5 from that PPA, but when booting that kernel, Xorg locks
up the system in some manner such that there is no keyboard or mouse
input, nor does the soft power button work to shut down correctly. The
cursor in the lightdm screen for password entry continued to blink
though, and during one attempt to use 3.5, I did notice on the lightdm
screen, there appeared to be a framebuffer vt cursor blinking in the
upper left as well.

I would be very happy to have this fixed, and even install Quantal on
this machine, but I can't install it while the system just freezes at
the end of the boot sequence (as it also does on the daily live images
now).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1022303] [NEW] Regression from 11.04 / 11.10 to 12.04 on NF 7050 / 7025

2012-07-08 Thread udippel
Public bug reported:

Actually, I am not sure that it is a nouveau-bug; could be nvidia / nv, whatnot.
What happened is, I had a working install (Kubuntu). After the normal upgrade
to 12.04, all was lost. nouveau wasn´t doing okay, with strange effects, wrong
colours, slowliness overall. So I decided to use the binary blob from NVIDIA.
Since that reboot, com, pletely nothing. Kubuntu would start, but then remain so
slow that the panels could not build up completely; I could not even get a
console to run `top`. Lost cause.
So I reinstalled Ubuntu 12.04 from scratch (ISO), that is Unity, over it.
Somehow, during the installation it also did NVIDIA, again. After the first
reboot, the same happened: totally slow. Just the background and a black line
where the panel should come up. No chance with Ctrl-Alt-Del; only Ctrl-Alt-F4;
back to command line. So i could at least harvest the Xorg log file and reboot
to failsafe. Failsafe also didn´t work, and I could harvest the Xorg Failsafe
file. Another reboot, and set Unity to 2D. Now this works okay, though, again,
with the NVIDIA-driver. The Xorg log is attached as well.

Strange enough:

With NVIDIA, no 3D-acceleration

With NVIDIA total slowness of the two independent systems

There is a - to me - strange loading and unloading of drivers going on
(see the Xorg log files). i could only make out that the NVIDIA is
actually active by checking it settings (NVIDIA X Server Settings
shows that the driver used is NVIDIA).

The auto-generated xorg.conf is

Section Device
Identifier Default Device
Option NoLogoTrue
EndSection

To me this is a bug and regression, because it was okay (at least better if not
normal) before the upgrade.
Secondly, a fresh install should work.

2012-07-08 Thread udippel
Something forgotten earlier:
Why is it a nouveau bug?
Because it stutters at boot of the install-ISO, showing
drm;drm_crtc_helper_set_config *ERROR*
a number of times.
Later on, with X being up, stuttering continues and it tends to freeze after
some minutes.
I reproduced this more than 5 times.
Freezing here means that the mouse can be moved at all times, but clicks are
not accepted, and neither keystrokes of the keyboard. Display and mouse pointer
itself are working okay, though (no garbled interface).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1022376] [NEW] Unaccelerated Video with installed Intel Video Card by default

2012-07-08 Thread Cefn
Public bug reported:

As far as I can work out (from performance) this machine is not using
the graphics acceleration available in the installed Intel video card.

Although xserver-xorg-video-intel is installed, perhaps there are other video
acceleration libraries or configurations which need to be loaded to benefit.
Currently, using the following video as a reference loaded in Google Chrome,
with HD turned off, and with the video embedded in the webpage (no
fullscreening)...
http://vimeo.com/44535515
...I'm getting something like 4 frames a second, which seems slow even for this
system.

My guess is that there's something not installed or not configured, but
there seem like a lot of options and I don't really know where to start.
Perhaps libva-X11-1 would make a difference? There's discussion of Mesa,
DRI and some PPAs to try like https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive
/graphics-drivers/ , but I'd be testing almost entirely at random
because I don't know how to diagnose the current situation. Happy to
experiment in any direction which makes sense.

Grateful for any help or suggestions, with the aim of being able to
auto-detect this hardware in future versions to avoid the configuration
step. Equally if there's a different way to load internet video which
loads the proper accelerations, that would be useful to know.

2012-07-08 Thread Cefn
I can confirm that the framerate is similar if not worse after
downloading the standard definition (not high def) video file, and
playing it within the Miro desktop video player (which I think wraps VLC
codecs).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 994490] Re: desktop crash in dual monitor mode on ATI Radeon X1900.

2012-07-08 Thread Massimo Svanoni
I solved creating a shell script with this command:

xrandr --output DVI-0 --mode 1280x1024 --rate 75 --left-of DVI-1
--rotate normal --output DVI-1 --mode 1280x1024 --rate 75

(please note you have to replace DVI-* with your output; xrandr -q to
find them out)

and putting it in starting application

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1021924] Re: Multiple Displays not working on Core i7 3770S + Intel DQ77MK motherboard

2012-07-08 Thread Rodney Dawes
The weird graphics artifacts in the apps I've noticed seem to have
gotten worse than when I made that comment. It does seem to be driver
related, though, as a large portion of the background was also having
issues at one point, when a redraw happened, and several rectangular
sections were just black until a window was moved over top of it. Looked
like possibly an issue with the frame buffer, and is likely a driver
issue. That was with current 12.04 3.2.0 kernel, and xorg-edgers Xorg
server.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1022423] [NEW] VESA and fbdev drivers get loaded and break the server under XWayland

2012-07-08 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Public bug reported:

If you've got xf86-video-vesa or xf86-video-fbdev installed, these will
be loaded by the X server by automatching as fallbacks. These drivers
can't work under Wayland, and so are disabled. However, that's not done
correctly - later in the Xserver startup process, xf86BusInit will try
to iterate over the driver array up to xf86NumDrivers, and will
dereference NULL because we've killed vesa and fbdev.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1022424] [NEW] Can pick wrong DRM device

2012-07-08 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Public bug reported:

The weston drm compositor backend will, when drm devices are not
annotated with seat info or the seat hasn't been specified, pick the
first drm device that udev enumerates.

In the case of hybrid systems this drm device is not necessarily hooked
up to anything, making the compositor useless.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 995570] Re: Wired PS/2 keyboard/mouse on Foxconn D270S Motherboard not responding in 12.04 Live CD or after install. Same hardware works flawlessly with 10.04

2012-07-08 Thread david krajewski
Just to be clear, I used a USB to PS2 adapter to collect the above
information. I don't want this to be a red herring and be targeted as
the cause of the issue. Using Ubuntu 12.04 on this motherboard, the PS/2
ports are unusable and the only way to pass any input to the OS is via
USB.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 362359] Re: Focus gets stuck to a window - impossible to select other windows

2012-07-08 Thread J Anakata
I have never hit this bug before, but for reference, I just hit it on a
10.04 LTS system; I let update-manager update it all the time so it
should have all the lucid updates. It was freshly installed to 10.04
from a CD about 2 years ago. x86-64.

I wasn't doing anything weird, I had just picked up the laptop after
having used it fine a few minutes prior.

The same behaviour described above in the bug (left clicks going to
focused window even if outside of it, right clicking on desktop seems to
fix it) occured so I'm pretty sure I'm seeing the same thing.

Being that I've been using this laptop with 10.04 nearly every day for
over two years, I'd say that this is a pretty rare bug for me, but
since the bug report matched exactly (and told me the workaround), I
figured I'd add a comment.
