[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037896] Re: Starting Firefox kills xserver immediately

2012-08-17 Thread Harry
Nvidia-graphics-drivers (nvidia-current) do not work with xserver_1.13 branch
if a 3d desktop session is selected.
Also when using a 2d desktop (like gnome classic), you cannot use firefox or
thunderbird ATM.
Not even the latest stable nvidia drivers (304.37) work.

I'm seeing the same problem with an fglrx package version of
2:8.960-0ubuntu1.1.

Removing fglrx really isn't option, especially on an LTS release.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037947] [NEW] Un-checking Mirror Displays in the Display control panel throws a required virtual screen size error

2012-08-17 Thread Charlie Halford
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 856312 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/856312

Public bug reported:

I have a Dell studio XPS laptop with an external monitor connected to
the VGA port. I want to be able to span my desktop across my laptop
screen and my external monitor. I used to be able to do this, but trying
it today shows it to be broken.

To reproduce:

Open Launcher Launch Displays uncheck Mirror Displays Click
Apply

The following error message appears:

required virtual size does not fit available size: requested=(3840,
1080), minimum=(320, 200), maximum=(1920, 1920)

Click Close

This is followed by a second error message:

GDBus.Error:org.gtk.GDBus.UnmappedGError.Quark._gnome_2drr_2derror_2dquark.Code3:
required virtual size does not fit available size: requested=(3840,

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 956071] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in XIGetDeviceProperty()

2012-08-17 Thread Pirouette Cacahuète
I have similar issue, ThinkPad T420s. System randomly but constantly
crashes when suspending after closing the lid for a couple of weeks now.
My xserver-xorg-input-synaptics is 1.6.2-1ubuntu1~precise1.

I did not went down the road of downgrading this one, but I tried
suspending by hand before closing the lid, and I don't experience the
issue once I do it. As soon as I get back just closing the lid and
hoping it suspends correctly, I end up disappointed by a crash. So this
seems a trivial but nice workaround for now.

I just noticed that xserver-xorg-video-intel was also upgraded, from
2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4 to 2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4.1. This could also have something
to do with the problem having gone away.

  * Add 105_reduce_ivb_gt1_max_thread_count.patch, backported commit

The current release 304 drivers should work fine with 1.13. I'll check
this out on my Quantal machine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1028919] Re: External monitor Samsung SyncMaster 223BW not detected

2012-08-17 Thread Thomas Hood
Well, with the -extras- package installed there is now display on the
Samsung SyncMaster 223BW but there is still no EDID information for this
monitor printed in Xorg.0.log even though the Displays dialog does
have information about the monitor. Also, the system displays 1280×1024
on the monitor which is capable of 1680×1050. If I try to use
Displays to increase the dimension then I get a black screen and error
messages in Xorg.0.log:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 998546] Re: 0408:3003 Touch-screen did work on 11.04 but no longer works on 12.04

2012-08-17 Thread Zachary Salzbank
I was able to get around this by patching the kernel. It seems that
because my device (ID 03fc:0588 Elitegroup Computer Systems) supported
multitouch, it was no longer being picked up by the hid-core and hid-
input drivers. This patch removes those checks for now. The real
solution is to update hid-multitouch to support my device (and others),
but until then, I will do this.

This is for Ubuntu 12.04 3.2.0-29-generic-pae #46

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1011698] Re: Performance problems with Nvidia driver

2012-08-17 Thread rmcd
I've just installed 304.37 via x-swat ppa. Video is still broken. Here
are some examples. 1. Chrome doesn't work properly with youtube videos
(the screen essentially freezes while the video is initially loading and
the controls such as youtube's sound level control don't respond to
clicks ). 2. Firefox works better, but with odd bugs, for example when I
move a terminal window over a playing youtube video, the video is
visible through the terminal window. Everywhere else the terminal is
opaque (compositing is turned off). 3. The rgl package in R doesn't work
properly. In 11.10, I could resize and rotate graphics. In 12.04, the
graphics are resizable when I first log in, but a few minutes after
logging in the plot window freezes.

abiword (2.9.2+svn20120603-2) unstable; urgency=low

   * build verbosity increased with --disable-silent-rules

   not a symlink).
   * new patches:
+ format-hardening.patch to avoid FTBFS on --with-gtk2 build.
 + fix-wheel-scrolling.patch (Closes: #672149).
+ fix-paste.patch (backported) with fix for
Crash on unicode character paste (Closes: #681060).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037896] Re: Starting Firefox kills xserver immediately

2012-08-17 Thread Daniel Dadap
There was a change in the layout of an X server data structure, which
caused the NVIDIA OpenGL driver to call into invalid function pointers:
http://lists.x.org/archives/xorg-devel/2012-August/033307.html

This should be fixed in the next 304 release after 304.37. Thanks for
reporting this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1011698] Re: Performance problems with Nvidia driver

2012-08-17 Thread rmcd
Just to follow up on my previous comment, I had to downgrade to 295.40
because my system became unusable with any browser. I would click on a
tab in either firefox or chrome, and the browsers would hang with cpu
usage hitting 100%. 304.37 is not a fix for this problem.

Hi,

Lately, the bug occurred after I had switched from another user and
without having suspended the computer. It may hence not be linked to the
suspend mode.

I am still waiting for instructions from Timo regarding the tests he
want me to perform...

2012-08-17 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1009179] Re: Xorg crashes randomly and resumes to the login screen

2012-08-17 Thread hbernard
Hi,

on my system (EEE PC with i915 graphics), this bug occurs a few moments
(between one and five minutes) after waking up from suspend mode.

Install is fresh, but user profile is not (coming back from mint 12)
