[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1045000] Re: Wacom touchscreen in HP tm2 laptop not works in Ubuntu 12.10

2012-09-16 Thread Timo Kluck
I'm trying Anton's suggestion of installing 3.6 now. I will report back
to confirm whether this solves the issue.

Anton, do you have a source for your statement? That may help people
identify the right changeset and maybe backport it to 3.5.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1043755] Re: Kernel Oops - Unable to handle kernel paging request at ffffc900117da000

2012-09-16 Thread Marco M Scannadinari
** Description changed:

Ocasionally, when I shut down, I am sent to the plymouth splash screen as
usual, however the ubuntu logo and the progress dots are static - they are not
moving. This has been happening more recently over the past week.
The hard drive LED on my case is not lit up at all when this happens.

  EDIT:
More info has been uncovered, after quietsplash was turned off at shutdown
and boot, these logs were in my view:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 812594] Re: HP USB Graphics Adapter (Displaylink) shows green screen

2012-09-16 Thread Marek Huras
Spent some time testing openSuse, Ubuntu, Kubuntu based on 12.04 release and
openSuse 11.4.
Unfortunately I couldn't get Fedora 17 working as described in this article
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=MTA5NjY
None of them was able to display more than green screen.
Using hints from this topic I made one of diplaylink screens to get xlogin and
xdesktop, though size was limited to 320x240.
IMO source of problem is located in X sever, which is unable to handle screen
coordinates split between different kernel drivers. Xinerama in this case seems
to not work.
Seems also that xrandr ignores existence of udflb devices.
That's why manual edit of xorg.conf or files in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d gives
partial success, sometimes.
Newer distributions are more difficult to handle, as thought to be automatic
thanks to xrandr. BTW: on Kubuntu12.04 nVidia Xserver writes its own xorg.conf
making xrandr for read only.

I'm waiting for Ubuntu 12.10 having xserver-xorg-video-displaylink removed from
distro. Maybe problem is solved there?
In the meantime I'm going to test Linux Mint 13 with KDE.

Greetings

Somehow it seems related to pm. Previously I had dynpm. Now I am using profile

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1043755] [NEW] Kernel Oops - Unable to handle kernel paging request at ffffc900117da000

2012-09-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Ocasionally, when I shut down, I am sent to the plymouth splash screen as
usual, however the ubuntu logo and the progress dots are static - they are not
moving. This has been happening more recently over the past week.
The hard drive LED on my case is not lit up at all when this happens.

EDIT:
More info has been uncovered, after quietsplash was turned off at shutdown and
boot, these logs were in my view:

BUG: Unable to handle kernel paging request at c900117da000

(This is not exact)

I also saw something about the chromium-browser and the fglrx driver
(Although it may be to do with dependencies or something as I had just
purged it .).

These bugs appear to by synonymous with my problem

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 926714] Re: continuous jerky mouse movements while using nouveau driver in 12.04

2012-09-16 Thread Lubomir Lackovic
I am also affected by this bug, but I have radeon graphics on my desktop
(Kubuntu 12.04, Intel i750, Radeon 4890). I had the same problem in
Kubuntu 11.10 and also in Ubuntu 11.10 - it was one of the reasons why I
used Catalyst before (it was not affected). Later I started using
opensource radeon driver and learned to live with this bug.

I have also found that people with intel graphics have the same problem:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/653815

I can also confirm that workaround posted by jones works.

Some basic system info:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 721471] Re: evdev is not compatible to QT-applications when using tablets

2012-09-16 Thread YAFU
@Alexei, This bug is not related to that bug.
The problem is related with this bug in Qt:
https://bugreports.qt-project.org/browse/QTBUG-25329

There is a simple workaroun that solves the problem by modifying the
src/gui/kernel/qapplication_x11.cpp file in
qt-everywhere-opensource-src-4.8.1.tar.gz source. I think the package in
Kubuntu is libqtcore4 (qt4-x11):
http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=139t=98347
In the Krita forum, in page 1 and 2 they discuss the workaround.
This bug causes that if you use a non-Wacom graphics tablet, the stylus
pressure sensitivity not working in Qt programs (Krita, pencil).
Would be nice if could be include that workaroun in Kubuntu 12.10 - Quantal

I am running Kubuntu 12.04, and after upgrading to the packages in the
xorg-edgers PPA, some OpenGL elements are no longer rendered correctly. Among
the package upgrades were:
 . xserver: 1.11.4 - 1.12.1+git20120502+server-1.12-branch.ed33772a
 . xserver-xorg-video-intel: 2.19.0 (x-updates PPA) -
2.19.0+git20120501.7e09babb

The rendering bug can be seen with GLX-dock. I have attached a
comparison screenshot where you can see the dock reflections are
incorrect. and the icon below the one with focus disappears.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 812594] Re: HP USB Graphics Adapter (Displaylink) shows green screen

2012-09-16 Thread Damiön la Bagh
@Marek Huras
From what I understood from Canonical xorg server does not look at the USB bus
for video devices. It does not understand that there could ever be a video
device at that location. This is why it greenscreens and why you need to tell
udev that this usb device needs to be coupled to a framebuffer device.
If xorg could just get a patch to look to the usb bus as well as the pci bus
then these display devices might work better.

The problem I'm having with 12.04.1LTS are:
1) the displaylink device only works with the Intel integrated graphics. Both
nVidia and AMD proprietary drivers ignore the displaylink device
2) with the displaylink Intel graphics combination you must set the vgascreen
to LeftOf the displaylink device in xorg.conf otherwise Unity goes completely
wonky splitting the screen into 3 inequal parts then opening windows off screen
not under the mouse.
3) lightdm surprisingly doesn't have too much trouble with the DisplayLink
device.

I have same problem on 12.04 using different kernel 3.2/3.4/3.6
The issue is for me visible only in Never Winter Night ( linux native version):
- cpu intensive use and heat
- render artifacts

Render Artifacts are experimented only when I wear some special object in the
game.
Cpu intensive use is bug as well, the game is very old and my pc is i5 + 4 gb (
during the game play temperature goes 90' degree and my pc shutdown, I have a

Those two screenshotss show a flickering, that very often appears on
windows. On 12.04.1 you would instead see a pulsating window while the
process seems to not respond for a moment. On 12.10 you get instead a
flickering transparent frame around the window, that also seems to
remove a part of the panel.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 992391] Re: [i915] xserver freeze on switching VGA1/LVDS1

2012-09-16 Thread nut
I have experienced this bug on my laptop with every version of Ubuntu
since 11.04 at least (I'm not certain if it occurred in 10.10). For this
reason I am still running 10.04 where it does not occur. It also happens
in Kubuntu and in Fedora 17.

I have my laptop lugged into an external monitor via HDMI most of the
time. The problem usually starts when I switch to just the external
display, with the laptop screen off. Behaviour appears normal for a few
second to a couple of minutes. Then the mouse and keyboard stop
responding, and eventuall y the screen will flash and go dark.

Sometimes I am able to switch to a non-X terminal and do a soft
restart. Other times I will not be able to do that and have to just
power down.

My Xorg log is attached.

My background is Java not C, but I'm more than happy to try to provide
extra info or run tests if that would be helpful.

I am seeing it on a T60 running Ubuntu 12.04 with an Intel 945 video
card. I have my lid set to no action so I am not even going into
suspend, and can get it to fail 20% of the time. There really is no
workaround except not closing the lid --- hope this is fixed soon. I
have 8 other T60s with the same behavior.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1047611] Re: Very weird mouse sticking issues

2012-09-16 Thread ian_hawdon
Looks like it's the touchscreen driver. After disabling the Wacom module
didn't do anything, I disabled the hid-ntrig one, which stopped the
touchscreen working, and since then the bug seems to have disappeared.

How do I go about filing a bug for that, will this one just be
transferred to the offending module, or do I have to file a completely
new bug report?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1051403] [NEW] jittery mouse

2012-09-16 Thread djm
Public bug reported:

When using the xorg intel_drv display driver, my mouse is jittery.
That is, as I drag it mouse across my desk the cursor jumps from
position to position on the screen instead of moving across the screen
smoothly. This does not happen when I pass in the nomodeset kernel
param (which forces X to fall back to the the vesa driver). I've tried
other distros as well (gentoo, redhat) and I have experienced the same
behavior.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1051354] Re: Ati HD 4330 + fglrx + HP x23LED screen = wrong resolution

2012-09-16 Thread Adam Niedling
I'm sorry, this is not a bug. There was a problem in my system. Looks
like both fglrx and fglrx-updates were installed somehow and it was
causing this issue. I removed both of them and reinstalled only fglrx
and now the resolution is fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1051362] [NEW] fglrx (not installed): fglrx kernel module failed to build

2012-09-16 Thread Christian Convey
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 12.10 beta, up to date as of 2012-09-15, 2 pm U.S.
Eastern time.

Uname output: Linux awesome 3.5.0-14-generic #19-Ubuntu SMP Fri Sep 14

My graphics chip is this (from lspci):
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI M97 GL
[ATI FirePro M7740]

Open-source graphics drive working okay, but I wanted to use the
Catalyst driver. So I downloaded amd-driver-
installer-8.982-x86.x86_64.run from AMD's website, and used it to build
Ubuntu/quantal debian packages. That went okay, so I installed them
using sudo dpkg -i *.deb in the directory containing the packages.

I got the following output from that dpkg invocation:

cjc@awesome:~/packages/x$ sudo dpkg -i *.deb

Original bug reports:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eog/+bug/1005292
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=676938

I'm using a freshly installed Precise on a fairly old computer.

eog: 3.4.1-0ubuntu1
xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: 1:0.0.16+git20111201+b5534a1-1build2

The problem is that eog shows a black stripe in some of my jpg pictures. I
think the position of the stripe depends on the resolution of the picture. If
the resolution is high the stripe is located close to the top, if it's medium
the stripe is in the middle. If the resolution is low then there is no black
stripe. Please take a look at the sample images.

I used the printscreen button to create the eog version of the images.
There is no problem with other image viewing tools.

Sample images:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eog/+bug/1005292/+attachment/3166211/+files/original.JPG

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eog/+bug/1005292/+attachment/3166215/+files
/eog-version_2.png

First I reported this as a Gnome bug on bugzilla.gnome.org but after
some investigation it turned out that this problem only occurs with the
nouveau driver. There is no problem with the official nVidia (173)
driver.

This bug does not happen with the nVidia-173 driver so the problem must
be with nouveau. So I've added xserver-xorg-video-nouveau as an affected
project.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-173 and nvidia-96 uninstallable on Precise

2012-09-16 Thread giardia
who tried the new nvidia96 drivers? im using the new release and i have a
little more higher FPS (363 FPS against 235 of nouveau) maybe a faster
performance but some visualization problems in firefox, for example in ubuntu
forum pages and youtube search field is bit flickering; also in Totem, when i
play mp3, the visual effects are shown with a line cutting the field from top
right to bottom left. im using nvidia geforce2 mx400
also im using gnome-classic (no effect), because with effect, the frames of the
windows arn't visible (with nouveau was working fine)

just another question: if i want to uninstall package libgl1-mesa-dri
(it give 3D support for nouveau), it ask me to remove also xorg and
ubuntu-desktop; should i leave installed, or should i remove from non-
graphic mode and then reinstall xorg and ubuntu-desktop?

ps: about my comment #121 i managed to set the best resolution for my
monitor adding a metamode in nvidia-settings

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I was very excited to try out the new beta but couldn't get it to boot
without the nomodeset option. This problem also comes up If I upgrade
the kernel to 3.4 or 3.5 in 12.4. I think it might be a problem with
some trinity chips. I have tried using the discrete gpu (7490) disabled
enabled I have no idea why lenovo chose to put a weaker discrete chip
than the integrated one.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 47793] Re: DRI module load fails (undefined symbol: _glapi_Dispatch)

2012-09-16 Thread Raymond Wells
Had the same problem on Quantal Quetzal (beta, x86_64).

DRI modules would not load. In my case it was r600_dri.so

I found the modules in: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri

That directory is not on the path searched by libgl when it tries to load the
modules. I solved it by symlinking:
ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/r600_dri.so /usr/lib/dri/

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 980519] Re: Random log off in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

2012-09-16 Thread Risto Ronkka
I did update yesterday (14th September) and after that when I try to
start Firefox, Thunderbird or Details, (12.04LTS) system logs out. I can
start Libreoffice with no problem. Google earth shuts down but does not
logout the system. I have old Intel +, nvidia+benq system. When I
tried to fix the problem as #124 says and tried logout, there was
messages about missing keyring password but logout did happen. Then I
tried to change the resolution, disable network with no effect.
Something odd looking was on login screen, resolution changed to high
resolution but changed back to lower resolution.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993907] Re: [nvidia GT 240] no desktop after X started

2012-09-16 Thread pat
I downloaded the driver for 64bit ubuntu here:

http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/47534

which is the official driver from nvidia and run it under graphic safe
mode. Then reboot and it works fine.

DON'T update your driver in the software center if you got this work,
since I update the nvidia there and it just crashed.

I'm not totally sure Mesa #49442 is the same as this bug. But maybe.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1049460] Re: [Intel HD4000] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x01000000 IPEHR: 0x01000000

2012-09-16 Thread Edward Donovan
Hi Bryce -

Two X sessions. I knew that description didn't seem good; I'll update
it.

I cannot reproduce it at will, or at all, so far. I've had problems a
number of times when switching between two X sessions, but certainly in
a minority of those events. Most of them I've considered bug 966744,
happening when one session had been idle long enough for DPMS to kick
in. X would stop displaying anything, but no crash or lockup triggered
apport.

I had a different strange problem yesterday, still under xserver-xorg-
video-intel 2.20.6-0ubuntu1, where X slowed way down and eventually
stopped responding. I haven't tried to file that, because, so far, no
problems have happened yet under xserver-xorg-video-intel
2.20.7-0ubuntu1. Hoping the problems were transient.

Happy to clarify these awkward descriptions as needed. Thanks!

** Description changed:

- I had two different user sessions, running on two vts, when this crash
- happened. This report was uploaded after a reboot. I could ssh into
- the system, but the screen was black and unresponsive. Thanks.
