[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 883030] Re: /usr/lib/libGL.so symlink missing

2012-10-03 Thread Wellu Mäkinen
When compiling simple Qt OpenGL program under Ubuntu there is following
line in Qt project file:

QT += opengl

This adds some include directories to the project and also tries to link
to /usr/lib/libGL.so which fails as there is no such file present in the
system.

After creating a symlink /usr/lib/libGL.so -> /usr/lib/i386-linux-
gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1 I'm able to link the program and run it normally.

Now, I think someone should create this symlink, right? Most likely
libgl1-mesa-glx package.

2012-10-03 Thread Edward Donovan
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Although I'm able to scroll right/left using two fingers.

Restarting the system solves it for a while but after some hours it comes back.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1017036] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 32-bit and ATI Rage 128 PRO Boot Screen Quality and ACPI S3 State resume problems

2012-10-03 Thread fpgahardwareengineer
(In reply to Bug Description)

Hi,

I need to give status update on this posting from while back.
Regarding the problems I have identified with regard to ATI Technologies Rage
128 display device driver, the ACPI S3 State resume freeze problem with ASUS
P4T-E was due to a buggy BIOS.
The BIOS I used when I posted the bug report was Revision 1007, which is ASUS
P4T-E's last official release version of the BIOS.
However, it turns out if I used Revision 1008 Beta 003 or Revision 1008 Beta
004, then the ACPI S3 State resume freeze problem will go away.
Here is ASUS P4T-E's download page.

http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=1&s=15&m=P4T-E

I have a policy of not using beta version BIOS whenever possible when filing
bug reports.
However, based on my experiments with ASUS P4T-E, the last official release
version was buggy around ACPI so I now use the beta version BIOS (Revision 1008
Beta 004) for this mainboard.
My view is that, beta version of BIOS (Revision 1008) was released specifically
to deal with Revision 1007's ACPI S3 State resume bug.
I will also add that ASUS probably forgot to qualify Revision 1008 as an
official release version.
I never tested this board with Windows 2000/XP so I don't know how it will fare
in a Windows environment.
Note that ASUS P4T-E's ACPI S3 State resume is done through video rePOST
(re-Power On Self Test) method, and that's the only method available for this
mainboard.
It does not give the option of not doing video rePOST, but since Ubuntu 12.04
works reliably now, I think I can conclude that I found a good solution to the
bug report I submitted.
I think it is fair now to close this bug report since I found a
solution to the problem, and for other issues I have raised in this bug report,
I will refile them later in a different bug report with relatively low priority
since the flashing green screen is not a fatal bug.

Regards,

fpgahardwareengineer

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1017036] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 32-bit and ATI Rage 128 PRO Boot Screen Quality and ACPI S3 State resume problems

2012-10-03 Thread fpgahardwareengineer
(In reply to #3)

Hi madbiologist,

What a miracle!
Someone let me know that device driver support is improving!
This is the first time I finally got a Linux developer to pay attention to the
bug report I have submitted!
Nice to hear that someone out there is still working on improving hardware
support for a 10+ year old hardware on Linux.
I still have quite a few 8 to 10+ year old hardware I picked up from e-waste
sites at where I live.
For the most part, the 10+ year old graphics card's performance is still more
than good enough for most non-performance critical tasks. (i.e., browsing the
Internet on Firefox)
I own about 5 ATI Technologies Rage 128/128 PRO cards, so if anyone needs
testing of the newer Rage 128 device driver, I can probably help out on that.
I also own many AGP 1.5V/Universal/3.3V slot mainboards from various chipset
vendors (Intel, AMD, SiS, VIA Technologies, NVIDIA) that can be used to make
sure that the Rage 128 device driver will work on as many platforms as possible.
Again madbiologist, thanks for letting me know about the development with
regard to Rage 128 display device driver.

Regards,

fpgahardwareengineer

ctrl-alt/option-f1) and use the terminal to get your /var/log/Xorg.0.log

easiest way:
1. plug in ethernet
2. sudo ifconfig eth0 up
3. sudo dhclient eth0 (assuming you get your ips from dhcp)
4. sudo apt-get install pastebinit
5. cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | pastebinit

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015183] Re: Inconsistent mouse events for Acer T231H multitouch monitor

2012-10-03 Thread Trent Piepho
I see this same behavior on a Samsung Slate 7, which has an Atmel
maxtouch multitouch touchscreen. Running Precise, with xserver-xorg-
input-evdev 1:2.7.0-0ubuntu1.2 and xserver-xorg-core
2:1.11.4-0ubuntu10.8.

If I don't touch the touchscreen since the X server has started, xev
reports the state of events as expected when using a mouse. 0x000 for
the ButtonPress, 0x100 for motion with the button down and the
ButtonRelease, then 0x000 after. However, after the touchscreen is
touched once, the state becomes 0x100 for the first ButtonPress from the
touchscreen and stays at 0x100 thereafter, even after the ButtonRelease.
Keyboard keys, mouse clicks, mouse motion, etc. are all state 0x100
until the X server is restarted.

my eMac video card is
ATI Radeon 9200
Chipset: ATY RV280
Bus: AGP
32 MB RAM

attached is my Xorg.0.log when using the command . That
results in a blank screen and what seems to be a frozen system in that I
can't even do from there to get to a command line.

On the other hand:

works for me, and all the graphics appear normal.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1056381] Re: [FFe: spice] error on x startup

2012-10-03 Thread Michael Casadevall
I've granted a FFE on this. I've reviewed the code changes in all the
packages, and is fairly low and the current amount of breakage is quite
high. In review of the code, given the vast majority of code merely
adds new enums and structs I believe risk of regression is acceptable.

Packages released from the queue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-10-03 Thread sglafata
I have two different makes and models of computers running Ubuntu Server
12.04.1 LTS and they are experiencing the same freezing that others are
experiencing.

One is a Dell Dimension 4600 and the other is a HP Pavilion 8679F. I
know these are old, but previously they both were running 10.04
flawlessly without the freezing.

I use the HP for DNS/DHCP in home and the Dell is my kids' Minecraft
server. The HP has little load on it and the Dell is has load when my
kids play Minecraft, otherwise it sits there throughout the day while
the kids are in school.

I am finding that on average, the freezes/hang state occurs every 24-48
hours. All currents updates have been installed on both machines. I am
running the '3.2.0-31-generic-pae' kernel on both machines. I do not run
X on either machine, although I installed Xrender on the minecraft
server because it complained that Java needed it.

After reading through this thread, I installed the 'linux-crashdump'
package on both machines and will report what I get from it the next
time this issue happens.

Also, per a previous entry in this thread, I added the kernel parameter
'drm_kms_helper.poll=0' to grub as well. I never had this entry before,
so we will see if that has any affect.

In either case, I wanted to inform the relevant parties that this issue
persists in the latest LTS release, and it does not matter what your
hardware configuration is.

I don't think this has anything at all to do with the nVidia drivers.
The brightness keys require a completely seperate driver from ASUS on
windows. There is no driver available from nVidia for them.

2012-10-03 Thread mr.The
So, update on my status too:
I trying to update kernel to 3.3.6(following this manual
http://www.upubuntu.com/2012/05/how-to-install-linux-kernel-336-via-ppa.html).
All going ok, but wifi turned off, and i can't install driver for my adapter
for this kernel. So, i fallback to 3.2.0. If you can help me with this, you are
welcome.

Also, i confirmed that problem in wifi:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1061073] [NEW] Desktop effects are slow and desktop corruption using mesa 9

2012-10-03 Thread Stefan Freyr
Public bug reported:

I have Kubuntu 12.10 set up on a ThinkPad T430.

I'm experiencing both desktop corruption and slow performance of desktop
effects. I've tried to downgrade mesa to 8.0.4 and that fixed the
problem.

Attached is a video comparing the two. The video does not show the
desktop corruption I mention (vertical lines appearing) but I will
attach a screenshot of that.

I originally thought this was related to bug 1042211 but they told me to
file another report since it seems to be different artifacts that I'm
seeing.

Of course I can't say for sure whether the slow performance and the
artifacts are due to the same problem but the artifacts seem to appear
when the desktop effects are activated. As you can see in the video,
mesa 9.0 displays much "jerkier" effects and it seems that when the
artifacts come this jerking becomes really bad just before the artifacts
appear. Just now I did notice that the artifacts appeared at the mouse
pointer when I clicked in a window. The artifacts followed the mouse
pointer as I moved it but after clicking a few times they disappeared.

WORKAROUND:
As described in bug 1042211 I downloaded the 8.0.4 version of mesa from
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/8.0.4-1ubuntu1. This fixed the
problem for me.

Since it took a little while for me to figure out how to get the .deb packages
from that page, here is how for anyone who wants to try:
1) Go to the above page.
2) Under "Builds" select your architecture
3) This will bring you to a page with all the .deb files for your architecture.
I only installed the libgl1-mesa-dri, libgl1-mesa-glx, libglapi-mesa and
libglu1-mesa packages.

2012-10-03 Thread Mario Vukelic
Anyway, I see in the Maintainers list that all ACPI-related reports
except for hardware-specific special cases go to linux-
a...@vger.kernel.org anyway, so it's maybe not crucial to be 100% sure
about the maintainer. However, it might also be this one:

1214 ASUS NOTEBOOKS AND EEEPC ACPI/WMI EXTRAS DRIVERS
1215 M: Corentin Chary
1216 L: acpi4asus-u...@lists.sourceforge.net
1217 L: platform-driver-...@vger.kernel.org
1218 W: http://acpi4asus.sf.net
1219 S: Maintained
1220 F: drivers/platform/x86/asus*.c
1221 F: drivers/platform/x86/eeepc*.c

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1046088] Re: No Brightness Control on ASUS G75VW Notbook (304.43)

2012-10-03 Thread Mario Vukelic
@Rainer: In the link given by Jospeh,
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/kernel, it says that the linux-usb
list is for reporting USB bugs, which this is not. Follow the
instructions under "Reporting non-USB Bugs Upstream". When looking in
the MAINTAINERS list linked from there, I think the correct maintainer
might be this one, but I'm not sure:

252 ACPI VIDEO DRIVER
253 M: Zhang Rui
254 L: linux-a...@vger.kernel.org
255 W: http://www.lesswatts.org/projects/acpi/
256 S: Supported
257 F: drivers/acpi/video.c

Maybe Joseph can weigh in. If that's correct, send the email to linux-
a...@vger.kernel.org. In this and everything else follow the
instructions at "Reporting non-USB Bugs Upstream"METICULOUSLY, otherwise
the report might get ignored upstream or worse. Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1046088] Re: No Brightness Control on ASUS G75VW Notbook (304.43)

2012-10-03 Thread Joseph Salisbury
This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest
upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug
report[0]? That will allow the upstream Developers to examine the
issue, and may provide a quicker resolution to the bug.

Please follow the instructions on the wiki page[0] and first email the
appropriate mailing list. If no response is received, then a bug may be
opened on bugzilla.kernel.org.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 365300] Re: Randomly I get double clicks when I do a single click.

2012-10-03 Thread Thomas Pilarski
Did someone experience this problem on an non Logitech mouse?

I exchanged many Logitech mouse at my dealer because of this problem.
The problem appears at the Performance MX after one month of usage, even
under windows. After exchanging the mouse the problem disappears. My
Anywhere MX mouse was exchanged after a year, after sending in to
Logitech. Same with Logitech V270 Cordless. Logitech is just using cheap
micro switches, which cause this problem. I even exchanged the micro
switches in one mouse, which solved the problem.

Perhaps the windows driver has a software debouncing and the problem
appears much later.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1058641] Re: "No devices detected" radeon regression

2012-10-03 Thread 2blue
I have the last iBook G4 with ATI Mobility Radeon 9550 card, and it
seems to work all fine when adding video=radeonfb:1024x768-32@60 in the
boot stage. I have installed and computer has booted fine the last two
days. When using video=offonly nothing works; coarse pixeled screen
image and non working installer.

How do you make sure the radeon driver and graphics card are activated,
or even check for it?

This commit adds support for using the new Composite command in spice

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1060970] [NEW] Mouse pointer goes crazy

2012-10-03 Thread Andreas Hohenegger
Public bug reported:

After a while the mouse pointer runs over the screen along a straight line
(upwards, downwards, diagonal etc.) if the numpad mouse was enabled using
setxkbmap -option keypad:pointerkeys
This bug will be difficult to reproduce as it seems to occur randomly and only
in certain setups. I encounter it working under KDE 4.9 on Ubuntu 12.04 (also
previous versions) which was why I asked here:
http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=111&t=106913
I encounter it only working in dual screen setup with external keyboard and
mouse (both Logitech) attached to my Lenovo T61 thinkpad. So far not if I do
indeed use the numpad mouse but when it was left on unintentionally (not
deactivated by pressing Shift+Num-Lock ).
The movement of the pointer can be compensated by moving the mouse in the
opposite direction but the pointer runs too fast to perform a secure
logout/reboot. At the same time the system does not react to keyboard input.
This is a serious bug which forces the user to force reboot the system without
any chance to close unsaved files.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 365300] Re: Randomly I get double clicks when I do a single click.

2012-10-03 Thread tyler_d
Confirmed here as well with bluetooth keyboard and with mouse clicks.

The bluetooth keyboard shows doubles on input however types and responds
just fine. The mouse however does cause issues within the system on
clicking. Simple usb Logitec M100 mouse.

Kernel
3.2.0-32-generic

lsusb
Bus 002 Device 006: ID 046d:c05a Logitech, Inc. Optical Mouse M90

Mouse Click/release output
xev output `xev | grep Button`
ButtonPress event, serial 33, synthetic NO, window 0x4c1,
ButtonRelease event, serial 33, synthetic NO, window 0x4c1,

Keyboard Press output
`xev | grep Key`
KeyPress event, serial 36, synthetic NO, window 0x4c1,
KeyRelease event, serial 36, synthetic NO, window 0x4c1,

annoying.

Just tried this with an older mouse and the double-click problem has not
happened once; however I did note the xev output is identical
`xev | grep Button`
ButtonPress event, serial 33, synthetic NO, window 0x561,
ButtonRelease event, serial 33, synthetic NO, window 0x561,

I believe this is a hardware problem based on the evidence from above coupled
with the feedback from the
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1429091&page=2
mice manufacturers focus on speed, and thus new mice spit the output out much
faster then older mice. of course I don't have much to substantiate this
claim; so at this point it's mere opinion.

Ultimately this hardware "bug" should be dealt with by the o/s though
and a mere measure implimented to determine that a human doesn't double
click in mere milliseconds.
