[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 883030] Re: /usr/lib/libGL.so symlink missing
When compiling simple Qt OpenGL program under Ubuntu there is following line in Qt project file: QT += opengl This adds some include directories to the project and also tries to link to /usr/lib/libGL.so which fails as there is no such file present in the system. After creating a symlink /usr/lib/libGL.so - /usr/lib/i386-linux- gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1 I'm able to link the program and run it normally. Now, I think someone should create this symlink, right? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1058641] Re: No devices detected radeon regression
@Ron thanks that confirms my problem in that the radeon card is not detected and the Xorg server is not starting. It seems for you, additionally, the radeondrmfb is not working correctly (hence the blank screen). @2blue thanks for trying to help out, but those logs have nothing to do with this bug because you haven't disabled the radeonfb framebuffer in them. When you do use 'video=ofonly' and it appears to be hanging, do you get a black screen or does the text stay on the screen? Can you try 'live video=ofonly radeon.agpmode=-1' to see if that stops the freezing? For me the regression is definitely in the latest xorg radeon driver, but I note wxl is having similar symptoms with nouveau (KMS)on PowerPC. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 36812]
As in comment 101, the current behavior of X prevents a lot of interesting usage of shift keys as shortcuts. A Windows-only compose key program uses the ctrl key as the compose key. This is apparently impossible to do in X input methods because you can only bind actions to the press of ctrl. What is wanted is an action if ctrl is pressed and released without hitting any other keys. I think this can be solved more easily. For any shift key, you can bind actions to them, but they are only triggered if you press release the shift key. All other keys trigger bound actions when they are pressed. The keyboard switching is NOT a special case. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/36812 Title: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-control-center/+bug/36812/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 36812]
(In reply to comment #108) I don't know what they have done in Ubuntu but 12.04 understands both press and release. Layout switching happens on release. Ubuntu have simply applied Ilya's patch (one of the revisions attached here) to fix the layout switching problem. If you press Alt you see the global menu and after release HUD uppears. This is a different behavior and one that works with the pristine X.org server - the ALT key, when used without any other shift keys, fires down when pressed and up when released. The Ubuntu HUD listens for this sequence and triggers when ALT is used like that without any other shift key. The problematic behavior (as documented in this lengthy bug report - kitates, please read the discussion), is that when you press down on the second shift key, X.org fires the keyboard layout change (problem 1) and also immediately fires the up event for the second shift key, even though the user is still holding the key down (problem 1). Problem 1 means that when the user wants to use shift1+shift2+key as a keyboard shortcut (when shift1 and shift2 are the shift keys used for layout switching, for example ALT+SHIFT or CTRL+ALT), then the user will inadvertently also trigger a layout switching that wasn't supposed to happen. Problem 2 means that the actual keyboard shortcut will never actually trigger because when the user holds down key, even though all keys are physically held down X.org only acknowledges that shift1 and key are held down. Looks like everything has been fixed. But if you use Ctrl or Alt for layout switching you still can't use this key for anything more, it's exclusived :( So ridiculous. It shouldn't work like that - I've tested the Ubuntu built X.org (with Ilya's patch) and it worked properly when using CTRL+ALT as the keyboard switching. It was immediately after the patch got accepted (at 11.04) but as ALT+SHIFT still works fine, I don't see a reason everything shouldn't continue to work (though I don't have access to an Ubuntu machine ATM to test).

I installed xdiagnose, python-apport and python-launchpadlib but when I run 'apport-collect 1061073' I answer a series of questions but at the end when I press the 'Send' button I get this error: stefan@atlas-stfs:~$ apport-collect 1061073 dpkg-query: no packages found matching mesa Traceback (most recent call last): File /usr/share/apport/apport-kde, line 519, in module sys.exit(UserInterface.run_argv()) File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/apport/ui.py, line 634, in run_argv return self.run_update_report() File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/apport/ui.py, line 554, in run_update_report attachment_comment='apport information') File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/apport/crashdb_impl/launchpad.py, line 358, in update report.write_mime(mime, skip_keys=skip_keys) File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/problem_report.py, line 504, in write_mime attach_value = CompressedValue(v, k).gzipvalue File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/problem_report.py, line 44, in __init__ self.set_value(value) File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/problem_report.py, line 50, in set_value gzip.GzipFile(self.name, mode='wb', fileobj=out).write(value) File /usr/lib/python2.7/gzip.py, line 131, in __init__ self._write_gzip_header() File /usr/lib/python2.7/gzip.py, line 176, in _write_gzip_header self.fileobj.write(fname + '\000') TypeError: 'unicode' does not have the buffer interface ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: I have Kubuntu 12.10 set up on a ThinkPad T430. I'm experiencing both desktop corruption and slow performance of desktop effects. I've tried to downgrade mesa to 8.0.4 and that fixed the problem. Attached is a video comparing the two. The video does not show the desktop corruption I mention (vertical lines appearing) but I will attach a screenshot of that. I originally thought this was related to bug 1042211 but they told me to file another report since it seems to be different artifacts that I'm seeing. Of course I can't say for sure whether the slow performance and the artifacts are due to the same problem but the artifacts seem to appear when the desktop effects are activated. As you can see in the video, mesa 9.0 displays much jerkier effects and it seems that when the artifacts come this jerking becomes really bad just before the artifacts appear. Just now I did notice that the artifacts appeared at the mouse pointer when I clicked in a window. The artifacts followed the mouse pointer as I moved it but after clicking a few times they disappeared. WORKAROUND: As described in bug 1042211 I downloaded the 8.0.4 version of mesa from https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/8.0.4-1ubuntu1. This fixed the problem for me. Since it took a little while for me to figure out how to get the .deb packages from that page, here is how for anyone who wants to try: 1) Go to the above page. 2) Under Builds select your architecture 3) This will bring you to a page with all the .deb files for your architecture. I only installed the libgl1-mesa-dri, libgl1-mesa-glx, libglapi-mesa and libglu1-mesa packages. Please let me know if you need more information. p.s. I had some problems choosing the package for this bug. It wouldn't let me put it on libgl1-mesa so I put it on libgl1-mesa-dri. (In reply to comment #12) I added the patch to the distro kernel (based on 3.2.29), and then after maybe an hour of uptime I got a full system lockup, and after maybe half a minute the monitor powered off. That's pretty much guaranteed to be a different issue ;-) The question is whether the patch fixes the flicker or not. ... so it was a bug in the monitor default settings. Samsung is wise enough to have a setting for off timer and the timeout of 1h. By default.. I have no idea if it should use some sort of a sensor, I've turned every eco mode setting off since they don't work. Looks like this is related though it's hidden in another menu. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 755841]
Forwarding a message from Axel Rohde Hi Chris, I just tested the standalone OpenGL compositor fbcompose from this site https://launchpad.net/~fluxbox-maintainers/+archive/nightly/+packages fluxbox-fbcompose_1.3.2+nightly+120311-1_amd64.deb ... on a i5-3550, Debian wheezy, xf86-video-intel-2.20.7 using SNA, fvwm2. By just starting fbcompose without any arguments I got rid of tearing in non-fullscreen(!) mplayer2, mplayer-vaapi, smplayer2, totem and vlc/rvlc windows. The latter three used to tear in fullscreen mode, too. Since I was too lazy to compile it, I faked the unmet dependency on libGLEW.so.1.6 by symlinks in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu ln -s libGLEW.so.1.7.0 libGLEW.so.1.6.0 ln -s libGLEW.so.1.7.0 libGLEW.so.1.6 This seems to be the home of the project: http://git.fluxbox.org/fluxbox_gediminas.git/ Before stumbling across fbcompose I tried Cairo-compmgr and dcompmgr, both are unusable as they simply screw up the display. The only side-effect of fbcompose I've spotted so far is upscaling instead of tiling of the background bitmap. This workaround can become a valueable comment to https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37686 for all users of vintage window managers. -- Please note that this is the equivalent of Option TearFree, with the extra latency of going through an external process. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/755841 Title: [sandybridge] Graphics tearing when playing video To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz-core/+bug/755841/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

(In reply to comment #105) I still can see tearing even if driver option TearFree is enabled, when I rotate display right or left (xorg monitor Option Rotate), so when the axes are reversed. Yup, that's expected at this moment in time. To avoid tearing down will require another indirection which I haven't added just yet.
