I also confirm that the workaround in #37 works! The correct option is

Option ConstrainCursor no

...and not...

Option ConstrainCursor no

(it also needs a before the Constrain )

I also tried booting the 12.10 beta 2 CD on an older dekstop with a nVidia
9600GT video card, but it gives the same scrambled screen.
Also the live-cd function didn't perform any better.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1057000] Re: [Ubuntu 12.04.1/12.10] nVidia drivers 304.51 prevent autohidden Unity launcher from revealing

2012-10-06 Thread Andrew Flegg
I have 304.43-0ubuntu0.1 from precise-proposed and still can't get the
launcher to auto-reveal. nvidia-settings confirms the NVIDIA driver
version is 304.43.

Adding the constrain-cursor option to /etc/X11/xorg.conf had no effect
(though, worryingly, it still had 'Driver intel' rather than 'nvidia'.
But even changing that, and multiple restarts hasn't changed the
behaviour.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1062881] [NEW] [gm45] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x7b001804

2012-10-06 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Public bug reported:

Occurred after I tried to rapidly maximize a window. `sudo lightdm
service restart` in a tty failed to restart the session (something
having to do with permissions, according to the error message it
produced in the tty). I used sudo reboot to restart my machine, then I
was greeted by multiple copies of this problem in Apport periodically.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1062915] [NEW] Graphics slowdown with 12.04

2012-10-06 Thread hpkeck
Public bug reported:

After having used Ubuntu 10.04 for quite a while without problems I recently
installed 12.04. Unfortunately, I found that the graphics output performance
has gotten worse. The first thing I noted was that the Unity desktop was too
slow, so I switched to Gnome classic (no effects). This works reasonable, but
then I noted that it is almost impossible to play videos.
With 10.04 it was generally no problem to play videos (apart for HD) but now
even videos with size 640x480 either get stuck or flicker like hell (depending
on the player I use). It seems that the support of the radeon driver for my old
Radeon 7000 card has gotten worse. I already tried booting with
radeon.modeset=1 or setting RenderAccel off in the xorg.conf, but this
didn't help.

I currently have version 6.14.99~git20111219.aacbd629-0ubuntu2 of
xserver-xorg-video-ati installed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1041063] [NEW] mouse pointer periodically leaps to left and top of screen in llvmpipe session

2012-10-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm running Ubuntu 12.10 inside a VirtualBox 4.2RC2 VM, and Ubuntu
doesn't recognise the 3d drivers so it is falling back to llvmpipe.

When I move the mouse around, it sometimes vanishes completely, and
sometimes jumps over to the left or top left of the screen. If I'm
moving a window with the mouse at the time, the window vanishes or jumps
over to the left or top left as well.

With 'force complete redraw on initial damage' turned on, it seems that
glitch happens much more frequently.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1041063] Re: mouse pointer periodically leaps to left and top of screen in llvmpipe session

2012-10-06 Thread a7x
According to the upstream bug report, this is a bug in the X server, not
VirtualBox. It just happens to be that the bug is very noticeable in
VirtualBox.

** Also affects: xorg-server via
   https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54353
   Importance: Unknown
   Status: Unknown

** Package changed: virtualbox-guest-additions (Ubuntu) = xorg-server
(Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

- mouse pointer periodically leaps to left and top of screen in llvmpipe session
+ mouse pointer periodically leaps to left and top of screen with absolute
pointing devices

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1041063] Re: mouse pointer periodically leaps to left and top of screen with absolute pointing devices

2012-10-06 Thread a7x
Regression caused by
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit/?id=749a593e49adccdf1225be28a521412ec85333f4
in xorg-xserver 1.13, fixed upstream in
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit/?id=3d1051aecbb1955084804133cacd12c7f696833a
(not yet released)

** Tags added: regression-release

** Description changed:

I'm running Ubuntu 12.10 inside a VirtualBox 4.2RC2 VM, and Ubuntu
doesn't recognise the 3d drivers so it is falling back to llvmpipe.

When I move the mouse around, it sometimes vanishes completely, and
sometimes jumps over to the left or top left of the screen. If I'm
moving a window with the mouse at the time, the window vanishes or jumps
over to the left or top left as well.

With 'force complete redraw on initial damage' turned on, it seems that
  glitch happens much more frequently.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744]

2012-10-06 Thread Brettcornwall-1
Actually, someone built a package including some other recent fixes and
it looks like the problem has been resolved for a number of people. You
can check out the LP report for specifics (sorry, in a bit of a rush).

Regardless, I've installed the package from his PPA and have been using
normal lid-closing suspend (had been switching to TTY1, logging in as
root, then using pm-suspend for the past few months).

I haven't had a single issue since. So unless there's any claiming
otherwise, this bug is likely fixed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1063035] [NEW] [xorg-edgers] iwlwifi connection freezing on xorg-edgers kernel

2012-10-06 Thread Rebecca Menessec
Public bug reported:

I'm experiencing the problem referred to at
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=785561#c4 . This problem is
severe enough to completely kill WiFi connections on heavily-loaded
networks.

The xorg-edgers bug reporting guidelines are very unclear, at least
about kernel-related problems. I apologize if this is the wrong place.

Does anyone know if this bug has been solved in the stock Ubuntu kernel,
and whether the xorg-edgers kernel for precise (or any Ubuntu kernel)
has absorbed the fix? I've tried fiddling with a lot of iwlwifi modprobe
options, and none reduce or eliminate the problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1043513] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in memcpy() via cirRefreshArea() under KVM virtual machine

2012-10-06 Thread Dave Gilbert
Looks like 1048304 is another dupe of this?
1056511 looks like a very similar backtrace to me as well, even though the
driver at the last stage is nouveau rather than cirrus, the rest of it looks
the same.

As of todays Quantal update it's stable enough to allow me to login and
get a few minutes of useage before failing.

Dave

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1063091] [NEW] Bamboo Connect (CTL-470k) not responding

2012-10-06 Thread Ales Katona
Public bug reported:

My Bamboo Connect CTL-470 tabled (cable version) doesn't work in the latest
12.10 beta2.
The kernel recognized it and creates two new input devices. I can see it also
in the Xorg input list but not in the ubuntu settings/wacom. I can also see the
device in Inkscape, however it cannot be used or turned on. The pen does light
up the light on the tablet, but no mouse movement is registered from it.

Description:Ubuntu quantal (development branch)
Release:12.10
xserver-xorg-input-wacom:

I expected the tablet to work, it didn't. I'm reporting this under the X
driver since the kernel seems to have recognized it properly in DMESG:
