[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1062915] [NEW] Graphics slowdown with 12.04
Public bug reported: After having used Ubuntu 10.04 for quite a while without problems I recently installed 12.04. Unfortunately, I found that the graphics output performance has gotten worse. The first thing I noted was that the Unity desktop was too slow, so I switched to Gnome classic (no effects). This works reasonable, but then I noted that it is almost impossible to play videos. With 10.04 it was generally no problem to play videos (apart for HD) but now even videos with size 640x480 either get stuck or flicker like hell (depending on the player I use). It seems that the support of the radeon driver for my old Radeon 7000 card has gotten worse. I already tried booting with radeon.modeset=1 or setting RenderAccel off in the xorg.conf, but this didn't help. I currently have version 6.14.99~git20111219.aacbd629-0ubuntu2 of xserver-xorg-video-ati installed. --- .tmp.unity.support.test.1: ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu13 Architecture: i386 CompizPlugins: [core, composite, opengl, compiztoolbox, decor, vpswitch, snap, mousepoll, resize, place, move, wall, grid, regex, imgpng, session, gnomecompat, animation, fade, workarounds, scale, expo, ezoom] CompositorRunning: None DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: precise DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, GraphicsCard: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RV100 QY [Radeon 7000/VE] [1002:5159] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: PC Partner Limited Device [174b:0020] InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin - Beta i386 (20120328) MachineType: System manufacturer System Product Name Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.14.99~git20111219.aacbd629-0ubuntu2 PackageArchitecture: i386 ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-31-generic-pae root=UUID=b90b85f9-e205-4221-97b3-a64bbbd735a1 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-31.50-generic-pae 3.2.28 Tags: precise ubuntu Uname: Linux 3.2.0-31-generic-pae i686 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo dmi.bios.date: 11/03/2005 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: 0219 dmi.board.name: A8V dmi.board.vendor: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. dmi.board.version: Rev 1.xx dmi.chassis.asset.tag: Asset-1234567890 dmi.chassis.type: 3 dmi.chassis.vendor: Chassis Manufacture dmi.chassis.version: Chassis Version dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvr0219:bd11/03/2005:svnSystemmanufacturer:pnSystemProductName:pvrSystemVersion:rvnASUSTeKComputerInc.:rnA8V:rvrRev1.xx:cvnChassisManufacture:ct3:cvrChassisVersion: dmi.product.name: System Product Name dmi.product.version: System Version dmi.sys.vendor: System manufacturer version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1.4 version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.32-1ubuntu1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 8.0.3+8.0.2-0ubuntu3.2 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 8.0.3+8.0.2-0ubuntu3.2 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.11.4-0ubuntu10.8 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.7.0-0ubuntu1.2 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.14.99~git20111219.aacbd629-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4.1 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:0.0.16+git20111201+b5534a1-1build2 ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-collected precise ubuntu ** Tags added: apport-collected precise ubuntu ** Description changed: After having used Ubuntu 10.04 for quite a while without problems I recently installed 12.04. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1041063] [NEW] mouse pointer periodically leaps to left and top of screen in llvmpipe session
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I'm running Ubuntu 12.10 inside a VirtualBox 4.2RC2 VM, and Ubuntu doesn't recognise the 3d drivers so it is falling back to llvmpipe. When I move the mouse around, it sometimes vanishes completely, and sometimes jumps over to the left or top left of the screen. If I'm moving a window with the mouse at the time, the window vanishes or jumps over to the left or top left as well. With 'force complete redraw on initial damage' turned on, it seems that glitch happens much more frequently. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744]
Actually, someone built a package including some other recent fixes and it looks like the problem has been resolved for a number of people. You can check out the LP report for specifics (sorry, in a bit of a rush). Regardless, I've installed the package from his PPA and have been using normal lid-closing suspend (had been switching to TTY1, logging in as root, then using pm-suspend for the past few months). I haven't had a single issue since. So unless there's any claiming otherwise, this bug is likely fixed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/966744 Title: [i965] Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1063030] [NEW] fglrx 2:8.961-0ubuntu1: fglrx kernel module failed to build on kernel 3.5
Public bug reported: Description:Ubuntu quantal (development branch) Release:12.10 amd-driver-installer-12-4-x86.x86_64.run(which was running 12.04) AMD HD 4250 1)Was running the included ATI/AMD driver (11.3 I think it is) on the 12.04 install 2) Upgraded from Ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10 3)Screen went from 1080x1whatever it was, to 640x480 On attempted to edit settings, received Initialization Error There was a problem initializing Catalyst Control Center Linux edition. I can now get * 0. 01:05.0 ATI Radeon HD 4250 * - Default adapter But on attempting to get the Control box, The same There was a problem initializing Catalyst Control Center Linux edition. It could be caused by the following. No AMD graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning properly. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1063035] [NEW] [xorg-edgers] iwlwifi connection freezing on xorg-edgers kernel
Public bug reported: I'm experiencing the problem referred to at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=785561#c4 . This problem is severe enough to completely kill WiFi connections on heavily-loaded networks. The xorg-edgers bug reporting guidelines are very unclear, at least about kernel-related problems. I apologize if this is the wrong place. Does anyone know if this bug has been solved in the stock Ubuntu kernel, and whether the xorg-edgers kernel for precise (or any Ubuntu kernel) has absorbed the fix? I've tried fiddling with a lot of iwlwifi modprobe options, and none reduce or eliminate the problem. Screen is frozen on last frame of video, or video fails to play. Switching to linux console and back to X11 seems to unfreeze the display. - will update with more info if I can gather more info + mouse pointer still shows when the overlay has crashed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1063091] [NEW] Bamboo Connect (CTL-470k) not responding
Public bug reported: My Bamboo Connect CTL-470 tabled (cable version) doesn't work in the latest 12.10 beta2. The kernel recognized it and creates two new input devices. I can see it also in the Xorg input list but not in the ubuntu settings/wacom. I can also see the device in Inkscape, however it cannot be used or turned on. The pen does light up the light on the tablet, but no mouse movement is registered from it.
