[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1043636] Re: Graphics/screen error bug does not allow computer to loggon
The problem also blocked out access to the command shell, doing the same as going into a failsafe shell. The probel was so bad that I had to do a re-install, this problem appears to be fixed in the beta version. ** Description changed: I used the computer that this happened on about 2 hours before the bug occured, it worked Normally apart from loading grub a bit slow. So I turn it on and it gets to a screen that says something along the lines of there is a problem with the graphics or screen and I that they needed to be reconfigure manually. It had 4 choises, they were something along the lines of: - Run in failsafe graphics for just one session - Reconfigure video - Troubleshoot - Drop to root for login For the first option it would not load after saying 'Starting...' and - would just hang there for a while + would just hang there for a while until I decided to retry For the second option I could reocnfiure from defualts of saved back-up. Neither worked and would flash back to the same window. The third option did something and showed me logs, failed to show a boot log. The fourth did the same as the first option. The bug disappeared after removing files from my home directory. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1043636 Title: Graphics/screen error bug does not allow computer to loggon To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1043636/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1065979] [NEW] external/internal monitors mirrored on boot when laptop lid is closed
Public bug reported: If I put my X220 in a dock, and plug in an external monitor. Then I close the lid and turn on the computer, the computer will boot up with both the internal laptop screen and external monitor on and mirror. Because I can't see the laptop screen, I would expect the external monitor to be only on at its maximum resolution. I've actually tried this without the dock by plugging in an external monitor to my laptop and shutting the lid during boot quickly, the same problem persists. This problem is exhibited on Precise/Oneiric as well as Quantal. In particular this specification mentions this behavior: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Blueprints/MultiMonitor In this user story: Alan goes to the office, puts his laptop with the lid closed into a docking station and boots it up. The external display should be run at its native resolution. Later that day he needs to see a customer. He suspends the laptop and takes it out of the docking station. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
I don't know that I can add enough information to solve this for everyone, but I suspect that I can help for some people. I have two Dell laptops that have been plagued in 12.04, and I've observed enough to know that there are probably multiple bugs at work here, and that is why it is difficult to solve. One bug is predominantly X related. It causes spurious logouts and freezes that only affect X (i.e. you can still SSH in). I've done so many things that I can't even count what might have fixed it, but this hardly ever happens to me now. I followed lots of advice, but I suspect one of 3 things was the final solution on my Dell XPS 14 (Intel video, Intel wireless, i5-3317U CPU): installing the X swat updates deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates/ubuntu precise main, upgrading to a new kernel (currently 3.5.5), or switching to the 2D interface. My daughter has my old Dell Inspiron 15, and she is still experiencing lockups with her laptop. I am very confident that her lockups come from the built-in Intel wireless, particularly when the computer gets to the edge of a hot spot where the signal is spotty (dmesg shows problems briefly before the computer locks up and the weak wireless is almost a sure trigger). I think there has been a regression in the Intel wireless drivers because it was solid for years and then got crappy about a year ago. I decided to order a USB wireless ethernet adapter this week and just disable the internal wireless, and I expect that to solve her problems as well. I'm disappointed by this, because of course I specifically chose Intel wireless when I bought that machine years back for the reliable drivers. So, perhaps nothing here will close the bug, but maybe it'll help someone else. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
My wife's Dell laptop had freezes as well. I believe hers was solved by uninstalling or disabling gnome-screensaver. She finds that if she never closes the laptop lid, it rarely if ever locks up. I also uninstalled gnome-screensaver on my laptop, since my forced logouts almost always came when it was time to unlock after a long absence. So I offer that as another place to look for people having problems. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 999431] Re: [G72] nvidia binary driver (295.40 and 295.49) segmentation fault
I've been experiencing this issue too, ever since 11.10, and still on 12.04. I've tried the nvidia drivers every few months but they still aren't working yet. I've even tried using the 304.51 drivers from the ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates repository, but still no luck. The default ubuntu driver (vesa, I think, possibly nouveau) works okay, but I can't enable multiple monitors on it, and I can't change the display resolution to the native resolution or aspect ratio (display is natively 1920x1200; only options are available are 1280x1024, 1024x768, or 800x600). Using the nvidia drivers causes a segfault every single time that X tries to start. Sometimes it manages to get just as far as the 'ubuntu' logo, but most times it doesn't. It displays a message along the lines of udevd[xxx] inotify_add_watch failed: No such file or directory a few times, and then does nothing further; I don't know if this is related. I've included the output that I get which corresponds to the already- mentioned output: From /var/log/Xorg.0.log: [17.923] (II) NVIDIA(GPU-1): NVIDIA GPU GeForce Go 7950 GTX (G71) at PCI:3:0:0 (GPU-1) [17.923] (--) NVIDIA(GPU-1): Memory: 524288 kBytes [17.923] (--) NVIDIA(GPU-1): VideoBIOS: 05.71.22.45.17 [17.923] (II) NVIDIA(GPU-1): Detected PCI Express Link width: 16X [17.923] (--) NVIDIA(GPU-1): Interlaced video modes are supported on this GPU [17.923] (--) NVIDIA(GPU-1): Valid display device(s) on GeForce Go 7950 GTX at PCI:3:0:0 [17.923] (--) NVIDIA(GPU-1): none [17.972] (II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode DFP-0:nvidia-auto-select [18.491] Backtrace: [18.500] 0: /usr/bin/X (xorg_backtrace+0x26) [0x7f8584167876] [18.500] 1: /usr/bin/X (0x7f8583fdf000+0x18c71a) [0x7f858416b71a] [18.500] 2: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0 (0x7f8583305000+0xfcb0) [0x7f8583314cb0] [18.500] 3: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xorg/extra-modules/nvidia_drv.so (0x7f857cec7000+0x4df1f3) [0x7f857d3a61f3] [18.500] 4: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xorg/extra-modules/nvidia_drv.so (0x7f857cec7000+0xde2f5) [0x7f857cfa52f5] [18.500] 5: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xorg/extra-modules/nvidia_drv.so (0x7f857cec7000+0xde9e0) [0x7f857cfa59e0] [18.500] 6: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xorg/extra-modules/nvidia_drv.so (0x7f857cec7000+0x8facb) [0x7f857cf56acb] [18.500] 7: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xorg/extra-modules/nvidia_drv.so (0x7f857cec7000+0x11102b) [0x7f857cfd802b] [18.500] 8: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xorg/extra-modules/nvidia_drv.so (0x7f857cec7000+0xc8b7e) [0x7f857cf8fb7e] [18.500] 9: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xorg/extra-modules/nvidia_drv.so (0x7f857cec7000+0xcd2b2) [0x7f857cf942b2] [18.500] 10: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xorg/extra-modules/nvidia_drv.so (0x7f857cec7000+0x4ae478) [0x7f857d375478] [18.500] 11: /usr/bin/X (AddScreen+0x171) [0x7f858402dbe1] [18.500] 12: /usr/bin/X (InitOutput+0x294) [0x7f858406d9b4] [18.500] 13: /usr/bin/X (0x7f8583fdf000+0x3d5ed) [0x7f858401c5ed] [18.500] 14: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (__libc_start_main+0xed) [0x7f858219876d] [18.500] 15: /usr/bin/X (0x7f8583fdf000+0x3daad) [0x7f858401caad] [18.500] Segmentation fault at address 0x238 [18.500] Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1063091] Re: Bamboo Connect (CTL-470k) not responding
After some additional testing it seems that the tablet works in a random manner (some reboots it does, most it doesn't but it doesn't seem to be related to it being plugged in USB on boot). When it works I get this xinput list result: ⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2[master pointer (3)] ⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointerid=4[slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ PIXART USB OPTICAL MOUSE id=9[slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPadid=12 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ Wacom Bamboo Connect Finger touch id=14 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ Wacom Bamboo Connect Finger pad id=15 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ Wacom Bamboo Connect Pen stylus id=16 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ Wacom Bamboo Connect Pen eraser id=17 [slave pointer (2)] and evdev on event14 works (note tho, I didn't get /dev/input/events for id 14 for some reason) But it should've worked on the pen device because this is the touchless version of the tablet. When it doesn't work I get this xinput list result: ⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2[master pointer (3)] ⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointerid=4[slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ PIXART USB OPTICAL MOUSE id=10 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPadid=13 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ Wacom Bamboo Connect Finger touch id=9[slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ Wacom Bamboo Connect Finger pad id=15 [slave pointer (2)] while still not having event15 in /dev/input (9 us there) I think the touch devices are probably dummy and that's what causing the problems. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xf86-input-wacom in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1063091 Title: Bamboo Connect (CTL-470k) not responding To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xf86-input-wacom/+bug/1063091/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1041868] Re: synaptics touchpad is being incorrectly detected as ps2 mouse on clausoft mnw737 (meenee)
Nick Pink, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (v3.6.2-quantal) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the kernel in the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested and remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the text: needs-upstream-testing If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why specifically you were unable to test it and add the following tags: kernel-unable-to-test-upstream kernel-unable-to-test-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.
