[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1071530] Re: X Error of failed request: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)
glasen, are you sure about that? Last year you said: "All chips since the i830 (e.g. 855GM, 865G, etc.) do not use the i810-driver in Mesa. They use the newer i915-driver and get still supported by this driver." http://phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?59632-Legacy-Mesa-Drivers-Receive-Their-Death-Sentence&p=224719#post224719 And there is no mention about droping support in the Mesa 9.0 release notes: http://mesa3d.sourceforge.net/relnotes-9.0.html So if they use the same DRI2 driver, i915, why should those chipsets be afected by a DRI1 removal? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1071530 Title: X Error of failed request: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1071530/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1071530] Re: X Error of failed request: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)
Hi guys, The bug is basically a "won't fix"-bug because Mesa 9.x does not support the old DRI1-based graphics-cards any longer. This means all pre-i915-chipsets have no hardware-accelerated OpenGL with Mesa 9.x and you have to use the Software-based rasterizer "LLVMpipe": http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=OTgzMg To force enable "LLVMpipe" you have to add the following line to the file ".bashrc" in your users directory: export LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 Maybe there is a way to add the old DRI1-based drivers to Mesa 9.0 but currently -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1071530 Title: X Error of failed request: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1071530/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1076195] [NEW] Graphics driver problem repeatedly causes OS to fail
Public bug reported: I don't know if xorg causes the problem, but I have endeed up finding 'xdiagnose' when searching using the term 'repair' from the Dash on a live Ubuntu 12.10 DVD. Right at this instant my computer is running from the live DVD. This may affect the Apport data that accompanies this bug report. This problem has now occurred twice on Ubuntu 12.10 and caused the situation where I am not able to boot up the computer. I get an error message along the lines of 'Your computer (is being run, or something) in low-graphics mode, etc. I have tried all the options but they don't seem to do anything. I think that the first time (that I remember that) it occurred was after I had upgraded from Ubuntu 12.04 to Ubuntu 12.10 several weeks ago. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1059655] Re: 1002:94a3 fglrx doesn't work with ATI FirePro M7740 chip
** Description changed: The "fgrlx" package now installs successfully for me. However, I believe it's not recognizing my chip, the ATI FirePro M7740. This is the chip that Dell uses in the Precision M6500 laptop from about 3 years ago. I have a few reasons for thinking fglrx isn't doing its job for this chip: (1) When I run "fglrxinfo", I get the following output: cjc@awesome:~$ fglrxinfo X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation) Major opcode of failed request: 153 (GLX) Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString) Serial number of failed request: 12 Current serial number in output stream: 12 (2) When I run "amdcccle", I get a dialog box with this message: There was a problem initializing Catalyst Control Center Linux edition. It could be caused by the following. No AMD graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning properly. Please install the AMD driver appropriate for you AMD hardware, or configure using aticonfig. (3) When I run "aticonfig", I get this message: aticonfig: No supported adapters detected I tested https://launchpad.net/~andrikos/+archive/ppa/+packages?field.name_filter=&field.status_filter=published&field.series_filter=quantal but this did not work. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 926714] Re: continuous jerky mouse movements while using nouveau driver in 12.04
The work-around of disabling polling works for me. I have confirmed that on the M4600, the polling of its 5 ports take up to 484 milliseconds during which the system is "frozen". I haven't investigated why but I'm confident that they way nouveau is detecting the DDC and EDID information is causing these brief lockups. Gents, I have instrumented the nouveau driver to get exact timing and the problem is definitely the EDID probe for the HDMI port taking 250 milliseconds and DDC detection taking 160 milliseconds for each port! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1059655] Re: 1002:94a3 fglrx doesn't work with ATI FirePro M7740 chip

This is the chip that Dell uses in the Precision M6500 laptop from about 3 years ago. It could be caused by the following. No AMD graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning properly. Please install the AMD driver appropriate for you AMD hardware, or configure using aticonfig. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1058040] Re: fglrx-installer not working with AMD Radeon/Mobility Radeon HD 2000-4000 cards in Quantal
madbiologist / Max Bowsher, thank you for your comments. As this bug report has a clear focus on the Radeon legacy 12.6 drivers for Radeon/Mobility Radeon HD 2000-4000 series cards, the Ubuntu X team (fglrx-installer maintainers) are aware of this problem, AMD is aware of this problem, and this report has been marked Triaged, again, it would be demonstrably more helpful if Max Bowsher creates a new report as requested of him in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx- installer/+bug/1058040/comments/47 , so his hardware, driver, and solution may be tracked and addressed appropriately. This is as per Ubuntu X.Org team (maintainers of fglrx-installer), Ubuntu Bug Control, and Ubuntu Bug Squad policy and preferences: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/BestPractices#X.2BAC8-Reporting.Focus_on_One_Issue and the Ubuntu Community article: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette When opening up the new report, please feel free to subscribe me to it. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1075974] [NEW] nvidia driver install fails, etc, etc
Public bug reported: I used the the software sources to install the nvidia drivers (updates version), and it failed. I have noticed several things that are buggy- ish. I'll just list them off, leave it to you to find the bug. BTW, this is a fresh 64bit install, and I am willing to do a clean install to re-test if that helps. - X seems to start, along with network-manager. Unity does not. - The software sources installer reported success, even though I could tell the install failed by checking `dkms status` - headers package was missing, and that was the issue according to `dkms autoinstall` - 'linux-headers' is a virtual package and an unenforced dependency for dkms I feel like each of those things could be regarded as a bug. I leave that to someone else. Ultimately, the driver failed to install. FWIW, I already fixed the issue by installing linux-headers-generic, and running `dkms autoinstall`, and that was the state when I file this report. If it helps, I am happy to reinstall and re-test, or just remove the drivers/headers and retest. Regarding their mention of the FireStream 9250, it would be odd to reintroduce support for a card that was not supported in previous versions and given Max's descriptions of the errors and inconsistencies in other parts of the AMD website I strongly suspect the FireStream 9250 has been mentioned in error. Dave Lentz also thinks so. And it's only a beta driver, not a final version, which means that the release notes are also a beta version and not a final version. The conclusive way to determine this would be to test that driver on the FireStream 9250 on an earlier version of Ubuntu which does not have XServer 1.13. @Sean, if you are still reading this, are you able to test the Catalyst 12.11 beta driver on Ubuntu 12.04? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1058040] Re: fglrx-installer not working with AMD Radeon/Mobility Radeon HD 2000-4000 cards in Quantal
lspci has this to say about it: 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RV730 [FirePro V5700] The balance of evidence regarding the FirePro V5700 seems to be support was dropped in 8.982, and the AMD website is just getting it wrong when it offers 8.982.x for the FirePro V5700 in some combinations of clicking through the driver selector forms. The balance of evidence regarding the FireStream cards seems confused. The PDF release notes linked from individual driver versions at http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/fire/previous/Pages/fire_linux.aspx suggest support dropped, whilst http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/AMDCatalystSoftwareSuiteVersion1211BetaReleaseNotes.aspx is contradictory to this, suggesting support continues. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1058040 Title: fglrx-installer not working with AMD Radeon/Mobility Radeon HD 2000-4000 cards in Quantal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-release-notes/+bug/1058040/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1058040] Re: fglrx-installer not working with AMD Radeon/Mobility Radeon HD 2000-4000 cards in Quantal
So much for not making any more changes until we establish the facts :( According to the release notes for the drivers listed at http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/fire/previous/Pages/fire_linux.aspx the last driver to support the FirePro V5700 and the FireStream 9250 is 8.911.3.4, released on 20th June 2012. This driver was designed to support Ubuntu 10.10. It's "Known issues" section lists no bugs for the FirePro V5700 or the FireStream 9250 which match this one. The next driver, 8.982.2, released on 7th August 2012, includes support for Ubuntu 11.10 and 12.04, but no longer lists support for the FirePro V5700 or the FireStream 9250. The latest driver is 8.982.8.1, released on 25th September 2012 - it also does not list support for the FirePro V5700 or the FireStream 9250. Are we in agreement now that AMD has dropped support for these cards? Also, the chip information that I posted was not from Wikipedia. It was from Sean's lspci. @Max, can you please give us the output from this? lspci -vvnn |grep "VGA compatible" -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1058040 Title: fglrx-installer not working with AMD Radeon/Mobility Radeon HD 2000-4000 cards in Quantal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-release-notes/+bug/1058040/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1058040] Re: fglrx-installer not working with AMD Radeon/Mobility Radeon HD 2000-4000 cards in Quantal
My FirePro V5700 ceased to work with the fglrx driver with the exact same update, in the exact same way, as described here, and has the same underlying chip as Radeon HDs known to be affected. The AMD website is hardly a shining example of consistency - there's an 8.982 Linux driver offered for the FirePro V5700 at http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/AMDSupportHub.aspx if you select "Workstation Graphics" and "FirePro Performance Pre-WHQL Driver". The weight of evidence is certainly sufficient to convince me that it's all one issue. If AMD ever come up with a driver that supports the Radeon HD [234]xxx on X server 1.13 but does not support my FirePro, I'll reconsider.

Hi there, Nice to see, that my PPA: https://launchpad.net/~makson96/+archive/fglrx is working for most of you. As it goes to the rest: try only to downgrade X-Server using my PPA, but install drivers according to this: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/993427/comments/14 . If it works for you, than I might make some improvements during packaging to solve issue. If it still doesn't work, than the driver itself is screwed and there is nothing I can do about that.
