[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1077616] [NEW] (EE) [mi] EQ overflowing. Additional events will be discarded until existing events are processed
Public bug reported: (Bug reported as requested by Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch) - see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1063156) Random hard locks on fresh installs of Ubuntu 12.10 (64 bit), requiring hard reboot. Keyboard is unresponsive, and unable to Ctrl+Alt+F5 etc. This happens with any Desktop environment (GNOME, Cinnamon, KDE). Using NVidia GT240 with NVidia binary blob. This appears to be no pattern to when this happens - can be using any application. Happens several times per day. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1075935] Re: login via dm fails.
Still no idea what happened to lightdm and gdm, but I have partially fixed the issue: now I can log in via kdm. Unlike others it crashed X. Logs said something about unrecognised options: Fatal server error: Unrecognized option: -nr So I went to /etc/kde4/kdmrc and edited ServerArgsLocal to -background none -nolisten tcp. That fixed the kdm issue. lightdm and gdm however did not crash X and the problem still remains. They both seem to launch X correctly, however the session terminates immediately. I am still unable to find anything in logs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1075935 Title: login via dm fails. Expected timing should be ~64Khz horiz 60.0hz vert. Actual sync timing from video card to LCD monitor is different than set by xorg in default conditions. Only by creating a special modeline in xorg.conf will monitor report correct timing using monitors' built in OSD. Native preferred timing modeline: 1280x1024 108.000 1280 1328 1440 1688 1024 1025 1028 1066 +hsync +vsync xrandr --verbose 1280x1024 (0x95) 108.0MHz +HSync +VSync +preferred h: width 1280 start 1328 end 1440 total 1688 skew0 clock 64.0KHz v: height 1024 start 1025 end 1028 total 1066 clock 60.0Hz Actual custom modeline required to create normal readings: 1280x1024_100 100.560 1280 1328 1440 1688 1024 1025 1028 1066 +HSync +Vsync Switching to VT1 or other terminal modes changes to the non-standard 69.5/65.2 mode. With GRUB_GFXMODE=1024x768@60 set at boot, of 2 monitors tested, monitor 1 (native 1280x1024) will still display both modes for troubleshooting, monitor 2 native 1600x1200 will fail with out of range message as soon as the hand-off occurs to the nouveau driver, and will not display at all in terminal modes, which prevent any trouble shooting. Have been unable to discover any custom modeline which will drive the 1600x1200 monitor at any resolution. I don't believe this is a bad hardware situation, as Both monitors display correctly with correct expected sync timings in Windows 2K using nvidia driver, plugged in separately or together, including support for dual mode with one attached to the VGA port and the other DVI port. EDID information seems to compare correctly between OS's I believe that this non-standard sync output is causing a lot of the blank screen out of range bug reports / forum postings that I have read, which all are solved by using nomodeset options at boot so to be able to install the nvidia closed drivers. This is not an option I want to pursue as all earlier attempts with various nvidia drivers have resulted in system freezes when I was using 10.04. The nouveau driver works well for me, have had no system freezes at all, so I am not much interested in the nvidia blob. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1077638 Title: nouveau drives lcd screens at non-standard sync To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/1077638/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

It solves the Mode-Button-Issue but I have to logout and login again after a reboot for the focus to work corretly (otherwise, the focus is locked on one window). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/615892 Title: Madcatz Cyborg R.A.T. 7 focus issues To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-evdev/+bug/615892/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1011732] Re: External display blinks off periodically
I noticed this issue affects my system mentioned above under WinXP too. Even more with WinXP. So I think this whole bug is hardware -related. This bug is not to blame Linux. I used WinXP to show animated movies to my kids as video quality is better with WinXP. Videos played without a glitch, but after that my wife surfed the internet using Firefox and XP, and black 1 second blinks appeared at approximately 5 minutes intervals. So, hardware related. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068341] Re: No way to specify correct dependencies for dkms packages (nvidia driver install fails to get matching header)
This is a serious problem. A fresh install of Ubuntu 12.10 followed by switching to the Nvidia binary drivers will give you a completely blank desktop on next reboot. Someone new to Linux will have no idea what to do. Steps to reproduce: 1. Do a new, clean install of Ubuntu 12.10, and boot into it. Optionally update packages to the latest versions, they don't fix anything as of this post. 2. System settings - Software sources - Additional drivers - select and activate any binary Nvidia driver. Installation completes without any errors. 3. Reboot, log in if not automatic. You now have a blank desktop, the resolution is wrong, and nothing works (except ctrl-alt-f1). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-updates in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1068341 Title: No way to specify correct dependencies for dkms packages (nvidia driver install fails to get matching header) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpkg/+bug/1068341/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1063046] [NEW] The whole system hanged and stop responding. Had to reboot and lost unsaved data
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I had a few applications open, namely: - Google Chrome - a Nautilus window - Gedit - a terminal Suddenly, after clicking on Google Chrome to give it focus, the whole system hanged and I couldn't give focus to any other window, nor close, minimize or move the current focused window (which was Chrome), nor do anything. - CPU consumption wasn't high (I can tell because the fan cooler wasn't running fast) - the Google Chrome maximized window, to which I had just given focus, was on front - I could see and move the mouse cursor, but wherever I clicked or dragged, nothing happened at all - Moving the cursor to the top of the screen would NOT show the window's top buttons nor the application menu - moving the cursor to the left would not show up the Launcher - alt+tab wouldn't switch to another window - Ctrl+Super+D would not show the desktop - left or right-clicking anywhere did nothing I couldn't save the files that I was editing in Gedit, so I lost a huge lot of unsaved work. Additionally, because of bug #1016457, I couldn't even open a virtual terminal and try killing some process or anything. The KEYBOARD DID RESPOND, in some way, meaning that for example: - the Ctrl+Alt+M shortcut that I have associated to the touchpad-indicator program did work and would disable and reenable the touchpad - Ctrl+Alt+F1 did show a black screen (which is what usually happen, because of bug 1016457, instead of showing the virtual terminal) However neither Alt+TAB nor Ctrl+Super+D (show Desktop) worked. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1063046] Re: The whole system hanged and stop responding. Had to reboot and lost unsaved data
Nvidia 304.64 is now stable and certified: http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux-display-ia32-304.64-driver.html I'm assigning this bug to the nvidia driver. It's not possible for user- space code like Unity to hand the system. Only something in the kernel like the graphics driver can do that. ** Package changed: unity (Ubuntu) = nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1063046 Title: The whole system hanged and stop responding. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1075035] Re: 1002:9452 fglrx graphics broken on upgrade with AMD FireStream 9250
I've installed 12.04, updated it, and tried installing the 12.11 beta driver form the link in #6. In case I did something wrong, here are my steps: 1. Download and extract the file. 2 In the directory of the extracted file, I ran sudo sh file.run The installer program came up, but it only returns the message Your graphics adapter is not supported by this driver. Installation will not proceed. I tried building an Ubuntu package for the driver but that also failed. I haven't yet tried the workaround in bug #1058040 that involves downgrading X.Org, but it seems like any attempts to run a newer driver on 12.10 fail for me. With the open-source drivers my previously whisper-quiet desktop computer sounds like a jet engine when playing a video full-screen, so I think I'm going to have to either go back to 12.04 or update my graphics card. (I'd been meaning to do the latter anyway - the firestream card isn't really appropriate for what I use it for.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1075035 Title: 1002:9452 fglrx graphics broken on upgrade with AMD FireStream 9250 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1075035/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1077805] [NEW] left click stops working after a while
Public bug reported: I did a clean install of Quantal a few days ago. I have a five year old Lenovo N100 3000 laptop. The install went smoothly and everything worked fine until later this evening. This started happening when playing scrabble on Facebook. The clicks would stop working. After a restart, it would work normally, but after an hour or so, it would stop working. I know this isn't a hardware issue, because I plugged in a USB mouse as well, and it had the same problem when the left click (and even right click on one occasion) wasn't working on my trackpad (tapping on the trackpad for left click stopped working too). How do I find out what's causing this, and more importantly, how do I fix it? P.S. I'll add an update in case it works fine if I don't use the Scrabble app. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1077805 Title: left click stops working after a while To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1077805/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068341] Re: No way to specify correct dependencies for dkms packages (nvidia driver install fails to get matching header)
** Description changed: Packages which use dkms require the linux-headers-$KERNEL_VER package to be installed for each linux-image-$KERNEL_VER which is installed. There's currently no way to specify this dependency. + + --- + + This bug is caused by the allowing of eg. linux-lowlatency kernel's + headers, while the actual bug people are hitting is bug #1068488 ie. the + Ubuntu 12.10 installer doesn't install linux-headers-generic by default.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1077804] Re: xorg
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. Thanks! ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1077804 Title: xorg To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1077804/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
