[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068341] Re: No way to specify correct dependencies for dkms packages (nvidia driver install fails to get matching header)
Since 12.10, the kernel header packages for Ubuntu are not installed by default. This breaks all DKMS modules, including virtualbox and nvidia- current. I maintain the DKMS module bbswitch and it is tempting to add a dependency on linux-headers-generic because Ubuntu/dkms screws this up. DKMS is used for building kernel modules, without headers it cannot do anything. In Raring, the dependency on linux-headers is completely removed, trusting the initial Ubuntu installer even more. Is this reasonable? I don't think so, the dependencies should be handled by dpkg, not by the installer. If DKMS cannot function without kernel headers, it MUST install kernel headers. ** Also affects: dkms (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-updates in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1068341 Title: No way to specify correct dependencies for dkms packages (nvidia driver install fails to get matching header) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dkms/+bug/1068341/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1077427] Re: System randomly hangs. Sometimes when unattended, sometimes using firefox
I ran some tests yesterday as this host was crashing too frequently and unusable. I reloaded from scratch with a 12.10 x64 distro and disabled UEFI and also created an XFS root disk partition as opposed to the standard ext4 filesystem. Only Firefox was loaded. the Nvidia drivers had not even been installed and X froze. I was able to ssh in and see the Noveau errors in syslog. [scrollback truncated]... i was unable to capture the errors today from yesterday's session. I made some changes and my system is now running stable. Not a single crash. My choices were to purchase a different graphics card (big unknown) or to reload a know good OS. $ cat /etc/issue Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS \n \l Sorry ubuntu 12.XX -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1077427 Title: System randomly hangs. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993655] [NEW] Unity looses mouse click handler when using enabling USB headset
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have a Plantronics D100 headset. When I press the button on the headset to enable it, Unity looses its click handler, in that it can not click and drag windows. The cursor is visible and moves just fine. I can switch applications using Alt+Tab, and I can launch new applications using the keyboard. But I cannot close the existing window, or change focus to another window by using the mouse. The Headset microphone and speaker work just fine! Tested this on a laptop and desktop machine. Both running Ubuntu 12.04. The headset I'm using is a Plantronics D100 unit.
