[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1085123] [NEW] headers not installed in kernel upgrade - nvidia kernel drivers not build - bummer
You have been subscribed to a public bug: This is at least the third time this happens with 12.10 amd A new kernel upgrade is installed, and after that nvidia_current drivers are not usable anymore All that needs to be done is make sure linux-headers-3.5.0-19-generic are also installed on kernel upgrade while any nvidia driver is installed. Rebuilding of the nvidia kernel mod fails otherwise with - no kernel headers for current kernel installed. Is that so hard? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1085783] [NEW] Kernel Panic
Public bug reported: I've reproduced this bug on two systems (same make/model) I can reproduce this kernel panic by doing the following (from a fresh kubuntu install) 1.) Home directories are NFS-mounted (SSO with kerberos & LDAP) $ apt-get build-dep zeroc-ice $ apt-get source zeroc-ice $ cd zeroc-ice-3.4.2 $ dpkg-buildpackage very shortly after running dpkg-buildpackage (somewhere between the patches being applied to the source and compilation begins (I'm not seeing the typical output of ./configure) the system crashes with a kernel panic. I hooked up a serial cable & dumped the console to it, so I could catch the crash, and the output is below. Additional: I installed http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel- ppa/mainline/v3.6.3-quantal/linux- image-3.6.3-030603-generic_3.6.3-030603.201210211349_amd64.deb (and its headers). The 3.6.3 kernel runs without issues, and I've been unable to reproduce the crash. So it seems likely that the problem is with the 3.5.0-19-generic kernel package. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 195982] Re: Shift key (and caps lock) stop working when using VMWare
fwiw, I just ran into the fubar keyboard problem with vmplayer 5.0.1 in Ubuntu 12.10, but found a workaround. Every single time that my mouse went into the vmplayer window, vmplayer trashed all the modifier keys so that CTRL, SHIFT, ALT all stopped working. xmodmap showed: shift lock control mod1 mod2 mod3 mod4 mod5 Running setxkbmap reset the modifiers correctly, but of course it was a huge PITA to do that every time the mouse went over the vmplayer window. However, vmplayer worked fine for another user, so I compared our default xmodmaps: shift Shift_L (0x32), Shift_R (0x3e) lockCaps_Lock (0x42) control Control_L (0x25), Control_R (0x69) mod1Alt_L (0x40), Alt_R (0x6c), Meta_L (0xcd) mod2Num_Lock (0x4d) mod3Control_R (0x69) mod4Super_L (0x85), Super_R (0x86), Super_L (0xce), Hyper_L (0xcf) mod5ISO_Level3_Shift (0x5c), Mode_switch (0xcb) The only difference was that mine had the "mod3 Control_R (0x69)" line, whereas the other user had a blank mod3 line. After issuing xmodmap -e "clear mod3" for my user so the two maps matched, vmplayer stopped trashing the keyboard modifiers for my user. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/195982 Title: Shift key (and caps lock) stop working when using VMWare To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/195982/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 980519] Re: Random log off in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
I have the same exact problem in 12.10 running the latest updates Im crashing to the login screen without any errors to the Xorg.log ... whenever i try to play a video . What i did is uninstall my nvidia 310 drivers ( that was working perfectly , i only got this problem today though i was using 310 for almost a month) and used the open source ubuntu default nouveau and the problem is still here . So there is nothing to do with the nvidia proprietary drivers. The culprit is somthing else and it isnt fixed yet although the bug says fixed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/980519 Title: Random log off in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/980519/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1072519] Re: After upgrade to Quantal, Dell mouse stops working - Dell Latitude e6410
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1019998 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1019998 I can confirm a very similar behaviour in my system. After upgrading from 12.04 to 12.10 I started to experiment some non random mouse freezes, in my case if I lift up the mouse from table and keep it for 2 seconds when I put it back on table it stops working (no cursor movement, no buttons response), even though the mouse remains powered (optical light remains on). I've been using the same laptop and USB mouse for years without any problem and after this issue has started to bother me, I tested this same hardware in different Linux distributions without experimenting such problem. When the mouse stop working, unplugging and re-plugging, makes it get back to work. I think this bug is a duplicate of bug #1019998. ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1019998 0461:4d51 Dell Laser Mouse stops working randomly -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1072519 Title: After upgrade to Quantal, Dell mouse stops working - Dell Latitude e6410 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1072519/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1084938] Re: evdev settings doesn't work at all
UPDATE: I've been playing around with this some more. None of the evdev settings work or have any affect on the touchscreen. "Evdev Axis Inversion" and "Evdev Axes Swap" do nothing. Changing the "Coordinate Transformation Matrix" has some effect, but doesn't work correctly. For example, the default matrix is the identity matrix: ⎡ 1 0 0 ⎤ ⎜ 0 1 0 ⎥ ⎣ 0 0 1 ⎦ To rotate the screen counterclockwise by 90 degrees, I would expect to use the following matrix = ⎡ 0 -1 1 ⎤ ⎜ 1 0 0 ⎥ ⎣ 0 0 1 ⎦ set using xinput set-prop 10 130 0, 1, 0, -1, 0, 1, 0, 0, 1 It "sort of" work but the mouse flickers all over the place and jumps when I lift my finger. Using xinput --test reveals that the while, for example, a button press event happens at coordinates (3636, 3673), the corresponding release event happens at (469, 422) in the opposite corner of the screen. I wonder if it's related to this bug: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54777 I haven't tried building the driver without mtdev. ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #54777 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54777 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1084938 Title: evdev settings doesn't work at all To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-evdev/+bug/1084938/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 967091] Re: Wrong tint in flash when it uses video acceleration
MC Reezy, did you apply one of the workarounds? You may need to remove libvdpau1 and reinstall the Ubuntu version. I followed what pst007x (turone) wrote on 2012-04-02. He provided the link to: http://askubuntu.com/questions/117127/flash-video-appears-blue. The fix at the top involves adding a repository "ppa:tikhonov/misc" to use a special patched version of libvdpau1. To revert back to the Ubuntu libvdpau1, I disabled the repository and then followed the steps to enable proposed updates. Here's what I did: Open Update Manager. Click on "Settings", then click on the "Other Software" tab. Uncheck (or remove) the tikhonov repository. Remove libvdpau1 at the command line with "sudo apt-get remove libvdpau1". Check that flash videos (e.g. YouTube) are "blue" again. Open Update Manager. Click on "Settings", then click on the "Updates" tab. Check the checkbox next to "Pre-released updates (precise-proposed)". Close Software Sources. At Update Manager, click on "Check". There should be about 59 or so updates that come up. If you just want libvdpau1, unselect all the updates by clicking the box next to proposed, then look for libvdpau1 in the list and check it. Click install updates. Once the update(s) is installed, you can go back to software sources and deselect proposed updates. Check that flash videos (e.g. YouTube) are fixed. Of course, if you applied a different fix, you will have to follow different steps to undo what you did. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libvdpau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/967091 Title: Wrong tint in flash when it uses video acceleration To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libvdpau/+bug/967091/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1085635] Re: Distorted display for resolutions with non-native aspect ratio
And I shouldn't have used the plural "resolutions" above. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1085625] [NEW] Scaled resolution are not available anymore
Public bug reported: I am often using cloned display settings between my monitor and my LCD television, to keep the same resolution and aspect ratio on both screens, as my TV native resolution is 1360x768 while my monitor can display up to 1900x1200. Until the upgrade to Quantal, it was possible to set the same 1360x768 resolution on both screens in the display properties. I guess 1360x768 was a actually a scaling of the monitor, as it is not listed in its native resolutions from xrandr Since the upgrade to Quantal, I cannot anymore select this scaled resolution, either in nvidia-settings or the gnome or kde display settings. I have to manually type the scaling using xrandr in console (adding a new resolution mode is denied). I tried all the nivdia drivers, from the open source Nouveau to the latest 310.14 proprietary experimental, so I guess it is an issue of xorg. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068341] Re: No way to specify correct dependencies for dkms packages (nvidia driver install fails to get matching header)
Someone discussed with Ubuntu developers about this issue? Are you guys sure that it is correctly addressed? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 931240] Re: Triple head on Ubuntu 11.10 with AMD Radeon HD 6470M not working
I just got the problem in 12.10 for the first time. I have a dual-screen setup at a Radeon HD 2600XT (I know). My main screen is horizontal, the secondary screen is vertical. This setup did work in 12.04. In 12.10 my GNOME Shell opens with a grey decorationless window on the left (see attached downscaled screenshot). I can use a context menu to copy the text in it out and into an editor, which reveals a localized version of the messages other users get. The fun thing is: the screen setup is 100% working - resolution, aspect, everything. But I still get the annoying window - and closing it isn't easy because there are no window decorations. ** Attachment added: "Strange login result" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/931240/+attachment/3449714/+files/screenshot1.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/931240 Title: Triple head on Ubuntu 11.10 with AMD Radeon HD 6470M not working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/931240/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1085541] Re: Latest updates break X
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need to know: - What version of Ubuntu are you running? - When was the update that caused this issue? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068341] Re: No way to specify correct dependencies for dkms packages (nvidia driver install fails to get matching header)
Personally, I have no issues doing some CLI work, but for the average user, this is a major deal breaker. The fact that this stupid bug still haven't been fixed is an embarrasment for anyone who advocates Linux desktop systems. Not a single person who is considering using Ubuntu is going to get a new computer with AMD/Intel graphics, just because Ubuntu can't install the drivers right. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-updates in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1068341 Title: No way to specify correct dependencies for dkms packages (nvidia driver install fails to get matching header) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dkms/+bug/1068341/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
