[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1023004] Re: xorg crashes when clicking in inkscape work area

2012-12-03 Thread Tuomas
Last week (28th November) I was using inkscape without problems. I tried
to downgrade all ubuntu packages that were upgraded last week, but
without success. Now it does not work at all. My workaround is to use
inkscape through VNC.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1085168] Re: 16 Bit colours / Banding on Intel HD4000

2012-12-03 Thread peterrus
** Description changed:

On my Asus Zenbook UX32V (Intel HD4000) I experience 16bit
colours/banding on the internal LCD panel. The external monitor works
fine (no banding is to be seen).

  This happens on at least:
  linux-image-3.5.0-19-generic
  linux-image-3.5.0-18-generic
  linux-image-3.5.0-17-generic

  and not on
  linux-image-3.5.0-10-generic

Others were not tested as I reinstalled my system.

+ I experience the same behaviour when using the xorg-edgers repository.
+
This issue might be related to
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1085166 in some way
as they started occuring at the same time (This sounds vague, and it
indeed is as I only noticed after doing some more kernel updates, so I

fast-user-switching from the applet works well. The display flashes couple of
time due to mode change, but the up-coming Wayland display manager will fix
that too.

I have Nvidia GeForce GT 525M graphics chipset with these drivers:
$ dpkg -l | grep -i nvidia
ii nvidia-current 304.64-0ubuntu1~quantal~xup1 i386 NVIDIA binary Xorg
driver, kernel module and VDPAU library
ii nvidia-current-dev 304.64-0ubuntu1~quantal~xup1 i386 NVIDIA binary Xorg
driver development files
ii nvidia-settings 304.64-0ubuntu1~quantal~xup1 i386 Tool for configuring
the NVIDIA graphics driver

I just can't wait for Wayland display manager.

ubuntu

** Description changed:

  Ubuntu version: 12.04 LTS 64bit
  Package version: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.6.2-1ubuntu1~precise2

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Try the Ubuntu 12.04 live - UltraNav is not working (neither the touchpad,
nor trackpoint)
  2. Install and update Ubuntu 12.04 - UltraNav is not working (neither the
touchpad, nor trackpoint)
  3. While debugging, it seems the device is detected, it just doesn't work.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745112] Re: [arrandale] desktop is messed up with external monitors (x86_64)

2012-12-03 Thread psny18
I'm not sure if I'm in the right place, but on my T61 + docking station
I have an issue with desktop files/folders not being displayed
correctly. With either VGA or DVI, everything works great but the
files/folders in the Desktop/ folder are not constrained to the viewable
area. They remain on the laptop monitor (can be dragged to the external
monitor) but they are off the screen. "Organize Desktop by Name" has the
same result.

So, it seems that the area allocated to icons is bigger than the actual
display.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1075418] Re: Radeon HD 6400M/7400M Series

2012-12-03 Thread Verdomde
It is a bug, i believe- duplicate of 1068661, or at least I think the
other bug will also happen, I tried to upgrade to the fglrx drivers
because of this- there is some serious overheating too. I ended up using
my intel 3000 instead, Now I haven't the foggies idea how to return, and
the fglrx still doesn't work, it's been months...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1083790] Re: Connecting external monitor shows incorrect resolution on external screen and correct resolution on laptop screen

2012-12-03 Thread Bryce Harrington
How's the testing gone? KVM boxes can do funky things with the monitor
EDID.

However, so far if I had to guess, it's sounding like the hotplug logic
in gnome-settings-daemon isn't handling this case, since running xrandr
--auto works. Did you indicate if this is a regression from 12.10, or
did you have the same behavior there?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1082187] Re: Asus “out of area” warning in the middle of the screen

2012-12-03 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hmm, well the modeline itself doesn't appear to have changed:

X.Org X Server 1.11.3:
[86.127] (II) RADEON(0): Modeline "1680x1050"x60.0 146.25 1680 1960 2136
2240 1050 1053 1059 1089 -hsync +vsync (65.3 kHz)

X.Org X Server 1.13.0:
[25.032] (II) RADEON(0): Modeline "1680x1050"x60.0 146.25 1680 1960 2136
2240 1050 1053 1059 1089 -hsync +vsync (65.3 kHz eP)

The eP difference just means it's the preferred mode from edid. So,
this rules out it being an altered modeline.

listed the candidates all of which are fairly minor changes. You can
test downgrading each in turn to identify what caused it if it is indeed
X. (I'm guessing it's *not* X, since these types of bugs almost never
are typically, but easy enough for you to verify.) If you can pinpoint
it to the updated package, it should be a short list of changes to
review.

Ok, since quantal kernel doesn't resolve it, going to guess it's not the
kernel for now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1085338] Re: One pixel column that belongs in one monitor shows up in the other instead

2012-12-03 Thread Bryce Harrington
Is this a new behavior? Did you see this on quantal? (Or, can you try
booting into a quantal livecd image, set up the external monitor, and
see if it happens then as well.) If you didn't see it in quantal, did
it occur as soon as you upgraded or installed, or did it occur only
later?

I notice you have virtualbox installed, but I am gathering you're seeing
this behavior unrelated to any VM sessions?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1084842] Re: Crash in r600_dri.so while playing Call of Duty 4 with Wine

2012-12-03 Thread Bryce Harrington
Null pointer deref apparently. ctx seems not to be null, so guessing it
to be ctx->screen that holds the undefined pointer.

static void evergreen_set_global_binding(
struct pipe_context *ctx_, unsigned first, unsigned n,
struct pipe_resource **resources,
uint32_t **handles)
{
struct r600_context *ctx = (struct r600_context *)ctx_;
struct compute_memory_pool *pool = ctx->screen->global_pool;  /* <--
crashes here */
struct r600_resource_global **buffers =
(struct r600_resource_global **)resources;

A null ptr check would be easy enough to slip in there, but I'm not
certain that would be a proper fix. This probably should be forwarded
upstream.

Looks like this code didn't change in 9.0.1, so presumably this bug
existed previously as well. Had you found that setting up screen
parameters had worked properly in the past, or was this just the first
you've tried?

Jaime, can you jot down the exact set of steps you take to reproduce
this bug? I.e. note each control you click and in what order.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1082314] Re: Raring wake up from S3 broken

2012-12-03 Thread Anca Emanuel
I am running the stock raring ringtail, and after I noticed that
upgrade to libwayland0 version 1.0.2 and something, I decided to:
sudo apt-install weston
but nothing hapened.

Quote: "There hasn't been much in the way of X changes in raring so far;"
I can confirm that the shape of the startup messages from kernel are changed.
I khow how they are before, and I can allays compare with my precise install.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068920] Re: Pointer screen crossings broken in Xorg server 1.13.0 (regression)

2012-12-03 Thread Thomas Lundquist
Upgrading to the ubuntu8 package set did not help me.

Loking at the text in the fix:

> * Revert the change to 500_pointer_barrier_thresholds.diff, causes
issues with unity launcher.

Does not really look like the text for the patch applied in the
freedesktop bug:

> 0001-dix-fix-zaphod-screen-scrossing-54654.patch

I have not looked at the content but again; This does not fix my X.

I don't get a white screen on computer unlock, but I frequently do get the
contents of a window painted completely white on unminimize.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1081185] Re: Touchpad can't be deactivated after a while

2012-12-03 Thread Paul Abrahams
I doubt if this will be of much help:

pa@morchella:~$ apport-collect 1081185
Fontconfig warning: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/50-user.conf", line 9: reading
configurations from ~/.fonts.conf is deprecated.
ERROR: connecting to Launchpad failed: [Errno 2] No such file or directory
You can reset the credentials by removing the file
"/home/pa/.cache/apport/launchpad.credentials"
pa@morchella:~$ ls .cache/apport
pa@morchella:~$

It seems that I can circumvent this bug most of the time by using the
Synaptic program to deactivate the touchpad when the mouse is active
(something that I would have expected to be in System Settings, but it
isn't).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1080156] Re: Xorg freeze --Ubuntu 12.10 hangs on the first boot of the day, works only after hard shutdown.

2012-12-03 Thread stefanhgm
When I switch the PC on it takes from 10 to 120 seconds until the
complete system freezes. Nothing excepts the reset button works anymore,
but after that everything works fine.

If any other information or log files are needed please mention. I would
be pleased if this annoying bug would be fixed!

Hi. It is not an issue for me anymore because I'm using a different
computer with ATI graphics now. I'm using Kubuntu 12.04. I don't have any
issues (especially now that I have firefox-kde-support, which is unrelated,
of course) :-)

I got my watch couple days ago. I did like to thank to you first of all. The
watch is fantastic and by the way thanks for the pen. It’s beautiful. I was
very skeptical about buying things from the internet at the beginning but you
changed my opinion. Now I know there are some serious business owners on the
internet such as you. Great, reliable and on time service!
Say thank you

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1085338] Re: One pixel column that belongs in one monitor shows up in the other instead

2012-12-03 Thread shankao
Actually, I have seen these problem since the time of oneiric (around the time
when I bought this laptop), but it's only evident on fullscreen -like while
watching a movie- and so, I always ended forgetting to do the bug report.
Anyway, the effect happens all the time, and yes, it happens unrelated of any
VM being running or not.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1085541] Re: Latest updates break X

2012-12-03 Thread Dave Gilbert
Hi Jorge,
If you use shift during booting to get the 'grub' menu to display, it should
let you choose a previous kernel version to try;
if that helps you then please add a note saying the kernel version that works
and the version that fails.

Also can you describe the make and model of the machine you are using.

Dave

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1085338] Re: One pixel column that belongs in one monitor shows up in the other instead

2012-12-03 Thread Dave Gilbert
Have you got a different resolution monitor that you could borrow to try it
with?
I notice the monitors you are using are 1366x768 and I've seen other problems
with that res because it's not divisible by 8
exactly, and various things sometimes get upset.

(Only a hunch, may be wrong).

You can create an empty file to override it:

  sudo mkdir -p /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/ldm/rc.d/
  sudo touch /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/ldm/rc.d/X51-opengl
  sudo ltsp-update-image

Adjust i386 for amd64 if you're using amd64 clients.

Note that if it is ever fixed properly, you'll want to remove this empty
file.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-12-03 Thread Rabit rabit
*Update*

So I make the jump and install kernel 3.6.3-030603-generic 5 days ago.
( I use the instruction from here
http://www.upubuntu.com/search/label/System)

And also install a new Nvidia driver 3.04.64.

For about 5 days I didn't have any crash untill about 5 minutes ago.
Bummer.

It crashed again. the same crash. Keyboard blinking. Then after a while
finally reboots itself.

Wow. This is very frustrating. This time it crashed while I was moving my
mouse.
I wasn't playing any movie or songs. Although I did play some streaming videos
about an hour and again about 10 minutes before crashing. But nothing was
playing when it crashed.

h ubuntu sucks... (that statement is surprising coming from me... )
still hoping tho...
