[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1041063] Re: mouse pointer periodically leaps to left and top of screen with absolute pointing devices
a7x, we uploaded a proposed package for quantal as xorg- server-2:1.13.0-0ubuntu6.1. Mind installing that package and confirming that it fixes the issue? Or, anyone who had been having this issue previously on quantal, if you can confirm the package in -proposed solves it, then the SRU admins can approve the package for release. ** Description changed: [Impact] When I move the mouse around, it sometimes vanishes completely, and sometimes jumps over to the left or top left of the screen. If I'm moving a window with the mouse at the time, the window vanishes or jumps over to the left or top left as well. [Fix] Patch cherrypicked from upstream [Test Case] - On affected hardware, move mouse around. + While using virtualbox, move mouse around. Expected: Smooth mouse movement Actual: Jerky movement with mouse jumping to 0,0 periodically [Regression Potential] Low. No known issues, and test has received review and testing upstream, and so is not expected to show regressions. Things to watch for include X server crashes, and strange mouse behaviors, both of which should be pretty obvious. [Recommended Validation] * Confirmation from a couple affected users * 1-week minimum time in -proposed to identify regressions [Original Report] I'm running Ubuntu 12.10 inside a VirtualBox 4.2RC2 VM, and Ubuntu doesn't recognise the 3d drivers so it is falling back to llvmpipe. When I move the mouse around, it sometimes vanishes completely, and sometimes jumps over to the left or top left of the screen. If I'm moving a window with the mouse at the time, the window vanishes or jumps over to the left or top left as well. With 'force complete redraw on initial damage' turned on, it seems that glitch happens much more frequently. Norbet, if you can reproduce it with SNA, due to the packing of the batchbuffer I can have much better idea of what is going on. The suspicion is definitely some dodgy state in the surface packet - but at this moment in time, it could even be an alignment issue that's been hidden by buffer layout. :| -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1081009 Title: [arrandale] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x0222 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1081009/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 301958] Re: no support for sis 671/771 video cards
Hello everyone, I have installed the video sis 771/671 drivers provided by Mr. Oliveira in an ubuntu 12.04 and worked perfectly from the beginning and the screen resolution is right at 1280x800, so thanks a lot; but later on I have found that when trying to play a video with Totem the screen turns into black and then returns to the login screen. When I try to play it with vlc, the video plays quite well unless I don't try to modify vlc window's dimensions or clicking on it so it understands to get to full screen, in that case everything crashes and I get the login screen again, just as with Totem. (Sometimes vlc shows a message that says that the video will be played at a very large resolution, but if you click Ok it shows in rather small window.) Is there anything to do to solve this problem or just it's the most it can be achieved with a sis 771/671 in ubuntu 12.04? Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1046450] Re: Xorg freeze with NVidia GT 610 graphics card under Xen
Hans, Nvidia customer support told me that they don't support Xen dom0. So my solution to this bug was to replace my Nvidia GeForce card with an AMD Radeon card. Here's some info that I posted elsewhere: Yep, it's a shame that Nvidia doesn't support Xen dom0 for most of their cards. I recently replaced my Nvidia GeForce card with a Gigabyte Radeon HD 6670 and it seems to work pretty well, at least for watching HD video and so forth, with Ubuntu 12.10 beta 2 as dom0 using the open source driver. And the card's 100mm fan is nearly silent under normal use. But to get HDMI audio output working with the open source driver, I had to edit the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line in /etc/default/grub to read as follows: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash radeon.audio=1 Interestingly, although my 6670 worked well with the open source driver, I couldn't get it to work with Ubuntu 12.10 beta 2 as dom0 using the AMD proprietary driver. Xorg doesn't seem to start. There is probably a fix for this, but I'm satisfied with the open source driver, so I haven't spent much time on it. See http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=189t=102193 I'll just add to the above that I am now happily running *Ubuntu 12.10* as dom0 using the open source driver. I manage my guest domains using virt-manager, the configuration required lots of research, but not much effort once I found the right procedure. But that's the subject of a future bug report. However, when attempting run Ubuntu 12.04 as dom0 in Xen using the 295.40 driver, my screen invariably goes blank just after seeing the initial Ubuntu splash screen. and always before the LightDM login screen is displayed. I'll just add that I have experienced nearly the same issue using the 304.43 driver obtained from ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates. However, when attempting run Ubuntu 12.04 as dom0 in Xen using the 304.43 driver, I can get to the LightDM login screen, but then my screen invariably goes blank when I attempt to start Unity from LightDM. I'll further add that the Nvidia card was installed to replace an older graphics card (which I no longer have and don't recall the make, but am pretty sure it didn't have an Nvidia chipset) whose cooling fan had died. I never had any problems running Ubuntu as dom0 in Xen with that older card.
