[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1088806] [NEW] X crash on full screen game exit with unredirected windows on
Public bug reported: Running compiz from ppa:unity-team/sru with unredirected windows switched on in ccsm Start session (issue only seems to happen when system started from cold, can't reproduce on second run after a crash). Launch minecraft (not tried other full screen games), go full screen with F11 Play the game for a bit - usually 5 mins is enough, not tested with shorter durations Without leaving full screen, exit minecraft gracefully Quit Game X crashes. I did a quick backtrace. Let me know if there's anything else I can try. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 914773] Re: [radeon] Compiz memory leak and blank screen unable to login when using radeon driver
This appears to have been fixed in Mesa some time by 12.10. Last time I could reproduce it was in oneiric (Mesa 7.11) but can't reproduce it now in quantal (Mesa 9.0). Given the comments on this bug kind of stopped around April, it could be that the fix was released in Ubuntu 12.04 with Mesa 8.0... With quantal right now I can confirm that radeon's glXWaitVideoSyncSGI no longer hangs when the screen is asleep. I see it returning regularly. So even if no leak was explicitly fixed, the fact that it doesn't hang at all any more could be working around any potential leak. Next step is to find out if the bug is fixed in precise too (Mesa 8.0.4). ** Changed in: compiz Status: In Progress = Invalid ** Changed in: compiz/0.9.8 Status: Confirmed = Invalid ** Changed in: compiz-core Status: Confirmed = Invalid ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Invalid ** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Fix Released ** Changed in: compiz Milestone: 0.9.9.0 = None ** Changed in: compiz/0.9.8 Milestone: 0.9.8.8 = None ** Changed in: compiz-core Milestone: 0.9.7.12 = None -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/914773 Title: [radeon] Compiz memory leak and blank screen unable to login when using radeon driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/914773/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

After an installation on an Acer One 522 , with AMD C50, went apparently well , I tried to reinstall a newer version beacuse of the huge amount of upgrades (810 Mb) and from this point I always get the PC freezing after the splash boot, and to see a live cd working I had to go back to Ubuntu 10.10 or Mint 10, this evening I will try with Mint 14 to see if anything change. stefano -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
I have the same problem on 12.04 x86_64, kernel 3.2.0-34-generic #53-Ubuntu SMP on HP ProBook 6560b. System freezes completly But: 1. Some time ago I was lucky enough to connect via SSH and run top (I think that PC was'nt freezed completely). I saw X process with 100% CPU. After few minutes box hanged (no ping etc.). 2. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] Intel/fglrx hybrid systems status
Following the previous discussion about Bug: #1068404 [1] and the hybrid fglrx/intel systems not working in ubuntu, I would like to add some things. I also include the hybrid-graphics-linux list in CC since this issue would concern also them. [1] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1068404 As stated previously this bug has many issues: - Segmentation fault when the X server starts: There is an incompatibility between the fglrx and the intel driver ( 2.20.2). In order to get around that, the workaround for now is to revert an upstream commit [2]. Reverting this commit seems to be safe enough, as stated by the upstream developers of the intel driver [3] On the actual request to merge this patch in the ubuntu package [4], the bug was marked as Invalid blaming the fglrx driver [5] (Comment #62) This might be true, but the important thing is to fix this issue for the users, not find out which project to blame for. Till the fglrx driver is not fixed, this is the only way to use the fglrx drivers in hybrid systems from Quantal and later on (intel driver 2.20.2) I kindly request to reconsider the decision of not including this patch in the intel package. [2] http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-intel/commit/?id=05dcc5f1699ba90fc14c50882e8d4be89bc4a4f9 [3] https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56494#c7 [4] https://code.launchpad.net/~andrikos/ubuntu/quantal/xserver-xorg-video-intel/fix-ati-hybrid/+merge/132956 [5] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1068404/#62 - Unity does not load: This was caused mainly by some paths missing in the dri/mesa/opengl paths of the fglrx driver. The fixes [6] have been already merged in the upstream git [7] [6] https://code.launchpad.net/~andrikos/ubuntu/quantal/fglrx-installer/fix-switch-to-igpu [7] http://www.phorogit.com/index.php?p=fglrx-packaging.gita=commitdiffh=c864a5807ca4db4b98ab27450e5bb77c0faa219bhb=9eaed4a5fee3d67c8ca8cd026189f8cc461a532a - X server crashes when integrated (Intel) GPU is selected: After these two fixes above are applied, there is an issue when selecting to use the integrated GPU. After having successfully used it during an X session, on the next X server invocation (because of reboot/restart/etc) there is a crash on the X server. If we reboot after the crash, then X server works ok (but enabling the crash for the next restart) This is described in Bug: #1088220 [8] and being currently looked into [8] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1088220 Bottom line: It is possible to have fglrx/intel hybrid working in Quantal, but we need the aforementioned fixes. The fglrx fies are already included and they will be released soon. The intel fix has been marked as Invalid, I kindly request to reconsider this decision and include the patch in the Ubuntu package. After the patches applied, there is still the issue when using the integrated GPU, but the situation is already an improvement with respect to the previous state and the issue is being looked into. Thanks, Nikos 2012/11/27 Bryce Harrington br...@canonical.com: Hi Nick, thanks for flagging this to our attention on this list. I have added this to our TODO list, and hopefully someone will get to this before too long. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/TODO FWIW, with fglrx, the packaging is maintained by tseliot in github. A good way to get changes reviewed and included is to branch his fglrx updates tree and propose a merge that includes your changes. https://github.com/tseliot/fglrx Bryce ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Public bug reported: See bug 1069199, 1088722 and 1068404: Im using quantal. Not fixed by nick andrikos's ppa. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI#WORKAROUND After installing ATI proprietary drivers for my Radeon video card, Unity doesn't start anymore. LightDM shows up, and I'm able to log in, but Unity doesn't load. Obs: The same occurs when installing fglrx package (if I choose it, instead of fglrx-updates). Removing the proprietary driver fixes the issue. This is the output of lspci -v | grep vga 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Caicos [Radeon HD 6400M/7400M Series] with the radeon driver the fan was really loud, the laptop was overheating and the battery was draining fast. Then I tried fglrx but unity wouldn't load(only the wallpaper and the mouse) so what I did for now is: Remove fglrx and use opensource radeon Use switcheroo (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HybridGraphics) to disable the discrete card(amd). You can add echo IGD /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch echo OFF /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch right before exit 0. This lets the system work , with norma fan, heat and battery. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1088854] [NEW] Dell e6420 - monitor frequency issue
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hello guys, colleague and I have Dell e6420 (identical HW) and we're both running UBUNTU 12.04. We've noticed we can't focus on the monitor due to the noticeable blinking (seems like the refresh frequency is not 60 Hz - you can see in xrandr output that it's set though). This is very evident when the background is gray/black (basically happens on darker colours - or it's more evident). I know this is very difficult to describe, but colleague and I think that this could be the driver that runs our graphical card...As you can notice from the outputs this laptop has 2nd GC - NVIDIA, however I read that it's not recommended to use NVIDIA on UBUNTU (not so well supported). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1080612] Re: Installing fglrx/fglrx-updates does nothing. radeon still in use.
Multiple possible solutions have been found allowing for a proper fix to be implemented, hence Triaged. And there are no unanswered questions posed in the above comments, hence not Incomplete. Yes, if you want a bug to be visible to the maintainer it does not hurt to assign it to them. There is a difference between a bug being assigned and in progress. It is not in progress so there is no implication (yet) that anyone is working on it or will. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1080612 Title: Installing fglrx/fglrx-updates does nothing. radeon still in use.
