[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1085280] Re: bugs

2012-12-27 Thread bugbot
We're closing this bug since there has not been a response from the original
reporter. However, the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the
requested information. If you're not the original reporter, we'd prefer you
file a new bug report.

Some tips:

  * Report X.org bugs via the command:  `ubuntu-bug xorg`

  * Test against the latest development Ubuntu.
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/
Bugs marked as affecting the development version tend to get priority
attention.

  * The `xdiagnose` utility has functionality for enabling debugging and
analyzing a few common X problems.

  * Tag your bugs with the Ubuntu versions you have reproduced the issue
in.

  * See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting for tips on writing good bug
reports.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-12-27 Thread audunpoi
My version of this bug:
complete freeze: no tty, no ssh.
happens almost exclusively when screensaver starts or similar power-management
related stuff. (turning everything related to power-management off did not help
though.) Happens only with my EVGA GeForce GTX 560Ti graphics card. Tried
differnt kernels and many Nvidia drivers. None was stable. I'm using the
onboard graphics for now, and will try again later with new drivers and
kernels. I'm on 12.04 and have to stay til next LTS.

(The card just has 3D in it's name, that's it

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 30969] Re: monitor suspends regardless of gnome-power-manager timeouts

2012-12-27 Thread rhayman
Still a problem people...

I did not have this problem from Dapper through Maverick, but since
updating Maverick through Natty, Oneric, and Precise, to Quantal in one
day this week, this bug has now affected me - I don't know which release
intorduced it, but my guess is that Oneric or Precise were the culprit
since I took a break after the Precise install and the problem appeared,
so I upgraded to Quantal to see if that solved the problem but it did
not.

The only software changes to the workstation have been the upgrades the
OS imposed and the retirements the OS imposed.

I have made no BIOS setting changes to this workstation since I built this
workstation in 2008 and installed Hardy on it.
The workstation has an American Megatrends BIOS v0804 on the ASUStek Rampage II
Extreme mobo, a 2.93GHz Core i7, 12GB RAM, 6x250GB RAID (2 hot spare), and dual
ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics cards.

10 minutes after boot, WHETHER I'M ACTIVELY USING THE SYSTEM OR NOT;
whether I'm logged in or not, both of my dual monitors shutdown and the
only way to get them back on is to reboot the machine, then I have 10
minutes of use before my workstation is pretty much worthless again.

'xset [-display 0:0.0] dpms force on' does not turn the monitors back on.
'xset s reset' has no effect because apparently this isn't a screensaver issue.

I have 2 ATI Radeon HD 4850 (RV770) cards in this workstation, but I'm
only using 2 monitors now, not 4, so only 1 card is being used.

I do not have gnome-screensaver installed
it doesn't matter if I have xscreensaver installed or not - problem occurs
regardless
it doesn't matter if I forced off dpms (xset -dpms)
it doesn't matter if I forced off screensaver settings (xset -display 0:0.0 s 0
0 )
if dpms is on, and the monitor has shut down, ssh'ing in xset -q tells me the
monitor is on, but it's not...
it doesn't matter what video driver I used (Ubuntu's default, fglrx, or the
proprietary ATI drivers)
it doesn't matter if I'm using cinnamon, gnome, or unity
it doesn't matter if my power settings are set to not sleep or suspend
It doesn't matter that my brightness settings are set to NOT turn off the
monitor

In case you think the monitors themselves are shutting down on their
own, they're not. They are HP LP2465s and they are connected to two
different workstations - two dual monitor setups, and the other
workstation, when selected, has the monitors active and they work just
fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1052000] Re: external monitor is invisible through vga-hdmi adaptor

2012-12-27 Thread Ralph Meijer
The dongle supplied with the Zenbook Prime (UX31A) is a mini-VGA to VGA
cable, no HDMI involved. I haven't tried hooking up an external monitor
with stock Quantal, but with the xorg-edgers PPA, I have found no
problems hooking up a monitor with said dongle.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1063656] Re: [Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 32-bit] Unity GUI will hang during bootup with ATI Technologies Radeon X600 (RV380) and VIA Technologies PT880 Ultra chipset

2012-12-27 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
fpgahardwareengineer, regarding your providing the results of
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelBoot :
1. Boot the machine. 2. During the BIOS screen, press the shift key and hold it
down. You should see the GRUB menu after the BIOS loads. 3. Navigate to the
kernel entry you want to boot, and press 'e'. 4. Then remove the quiet and
splash keywords (found in the line starting with linux) 5. Starting with Natty
(Ubuntu 11.04), also remove the parameter vt.handoff=7, and on the line that
reads set gfxpayload=$linux_gfx_mode, replace with set gfxpayload=text
Press 'Ctrl+x' to boot.

Did anything show on the computer screen that you could take a picture
of with a camera, or perhaps a video via smartphone and attach to this
report?

** Description changed:

- Hi,
-
- I recently obtained a mainboard called ASUS P5VD1-X.
- This is a little odd ball of a mainboard.
- It contains an AGP 8X Slot (AGP 1.5V) and a PCI Express Gen 1 x16 Slot (x16
connector, x4 link).
- Both AGP and PCI Express are connected to the Northbridge chip, VIA
Technologies PT880 Ultra.
- PT880 Ultra is one of the last VIA Technologies chipset that supported Intel
platform.
- A perfect mainboard to do hardware compatibility validation against number of
cards and Linux.
- I updated the BIOS to the last release version (Revision 0704).
The problem is, booting will stop after displaying Unity GUI default
background wallpaper image under Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 32-bit.
It won't get to displaying launch bar with icons on the left side of the
screen or a title bar on the top part of the screen.
- Note that I observed the same exact problem with XFX Radeon HD 5450 512 MB
DDR3 SDRAM graphics card (AMD Radeon HD 5450, Cedar PRO).
- This bug doesn't seem to occur on Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA chipset-based
mainboards for some reason.

- System Configuration:
+ This is a Ubuntu version regression going from Lucid to Natty.

- - Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 32-bit
- - ASUS P5VD1-X mainboard
-   * BIOS Revision 0704
-   * VIA Technologies PT880 Ultra (Northbridge)
-   * VIA Technologies VT8237R Plus (Southbridge)
- - Intel Pentium D
-   * 2.66 GHz
-   * 533 MHz FSB
- - 512 MB DDR 400 DDR SDRAM
-   * 256 MB DDR 400 DDR SDRAM DIMM X 2 (in dual channel mode)
- - ATI Technologies Radeon X600 graphics card
-   * RV380
-   * 128 MB DDR SDRAM
-   * PCI Express x16
- - Pioneer DVR-111D PATA DVD-RW drive
- - PS/2 keyboard
- - PS.2 mouse
-
- Note that because I cannot boot Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 32-bit, the files attached
is from Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS 32-bit.
- Other than that, the system configuration is identical.
- Please fix this bug as soon as possible.
-
- Regards,
-
- fpgahardwareengineer

Workaround for Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin) and Linux Mint 13 (Maya):

With this method the change will last until the xserver-xorg-input-
