[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 777882] Re: xmodmap not honored

2013-02-26 Thread Torsten Bronger
I confirm this on Lubuntu 12.10. An .Xmodmap file with

remove lock = Caps_Lock

has no effect, however,

keycode 66 =

successfully switches off Caps Lock (where the keycode is correct).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1070883] Re: Pivot causes missing single line on screen

2013-02-26 Thread pdknsk
Thanks, it works. It does also reduce the width by 1px effectively, but
it's better than a missing line in the middle of the screen.

In case anyone with the same problem wants to make this permanent.

sudo tee /etc/X11/Xsession.d/45custom_xrandr-settings EOF
xrandr --fb 1201x1920
EOF

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1133192] [NEW] Screen goes wonky when HDMI device is plugged in

2013-02-26 Thread Jeff Lane
Public bug reported:

On plugging in HDMI devices, the screen is scrambled. Pretty simple.

Boot and log in.
Plug in HDMI device
Watch the screen scramble

This occurs with the Radeon driver.

I managed to recover the system the first time by unplugging the device,
however, on the second attempt, the screen scrambled and stuck that way
and I had to reboot to recover the desktop.

Be that as it may, it was only introduced by 12.04/Precise. Before that I
didn't have any problem; so something changed to break how it works. That
still counts as a bug to me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2013-02-26 Thread Big Ben
Dear all,

I had the complete freeze bug with my laptop running ubuntu. Tried
installing gnome 3 (which I like much) but it did not solve the problem
(see previous posts). A few days ago, I installed kernel
3.6.10-030610-generic. The freeze problem seems to have gone for good.

I followed the procedure given at this address:

http://la-vache-libre.org/?s=installer+le+noyau+linux+3.6.10

The commands they give are:

cd /tmp

wget http://dl.dropbox.com/u/47950494/upubuntu.com/linux-kernel-3.6.10
-O linux-kernel-3.6.10

chmod +x linux-kernel-3.6.10

sudo sh linux-kernel-3.6.10

sudo reboot

That's written in french, but the sequence of commands looks rather
straightforward. The page first explains how to install the kernel 3.7. Scroll
the page down to the section where they talk of 3.6.10 (avoid odd numbers in
kernel versions...). Note that the authors nevertheless warn that installing a
new kernel can have (bad) consequences and that you'd better make a backup
(honestly, I did not and proceeded with the install).
The last sudo command given at the bottom of the page tells you how to remove
the kernel 3.6.10 if you're not happy with it:

sudo apt-get purge linux-image-3.6.10*

Note that you may have to re-install some of your drivers (or update some of
them). For example, I had to install the appropriate alx driver for my atheros
network card.

If after installing the kernel, you have troubles with your Nvidia card,
you may (hopefully) solve them with:

cd /usr/src/linux-headers-3.4.4-030404-generic/arch/x86/include
sudo cp -v generated/asm/unistd* ./asm

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1133490] [NEW] Xorg crashed with SIGABRT

2013-02-26 Thread Johan Thorén
Public bug reported:

This bug has been haunting me for a couple of weeks now.

It happens only sometimes when I interact with tabs in Firefox or
Chrome/Chromium (all three tested, both stable and beta), about 3-5
times per day.

What did I do before the crash:

Interacting with tabs, creating new on, closing existing or clicking on
active to change focus.

What should happen:

The browser should follow with the appropriate action, such as starting
a new tab, closing the one I clicked on or changing focus to the one I
clicked on.

What does happen:

X shuts down and kicks me out to the lightdm login screen.

Is this Unity related:

No, the same problem exists within Awesome WM.

Extra information:

* Using 2 SSD disks with full disk encryption.
* Using SNA and TearFree options to have totally smooth video playback.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 998414] Re: Black screen Sony HMZ-T1 (HDMI) with Intel drivers, 12.04

2013-02-26 Thread Chris Wilson
The first vital bit of information we need is the dmesg from boot with
drm.debug=6 appended to your kernel command line. Since this is HDMI,
testing with the v3.8 kernel from raring is essential.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 755841]

2013-02-26 Thread bwat47
running ubuntu 13.04/kde 4.10 on my laptop (kernel 3.8/ ddx 2.21,
ivybridge). kwin still tears at the top of the screen even with sna
enabled and vsync on in kwin, but I assume thats just this bug:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=307965

So I tried disabling vsync in kwin and using the tearfree option which
did remove all tearing, and seems to perform reasonably well for desktop
usage and video playback (haven't tried anything else)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2013-02-26 Thread rsoika
I have tested kernel version 3.6.10 in the past and this did not solve the
problem for me.
I think I have tested most of the versions between 3.0 and 3.8 with no luck :-(
I have a total freeze every two days and I search the internet every day for
any hints.

One thing I figured out some days ago was that ater the freeze I can
switch-off/on my laptop display with the function key (fn+F9). But this seems
to be the only thing which still works - strange?
My theory is that the freeze depends on the powermanagement and the situaton
when the battery is full charged. But I see that also some desktop users have
the same freeze so my theory is not relay strong.

I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 – since I upgraded to Natty Narwhal I see heavy
graphics corruptions in Gnome 2.32.1, the Gnome panel is especially
affected. I'm sure I already saw those corruptions in Ubuntu 10.10 (but
I had the backports activated…). I'm sorry but I can't narrow this
further down…

In addition I'm noticing increasing usage of my swap-partition. I have
4GB swap (don't ask me why) – within a few hours the graphics
corruptions and the swap-usage increases until the whole 4GB are in use
and the system freezes. I'm quite sure those symptoms are related…

I attached two screenshots showing different corruptions on Launchpad:

https://launchpadlibrarian.net/70632490/screenshot_stefan-nagy_01.png
shows a permanent symptom only affecting context menus of the Gnome
panel - in my case the gnome clock applet, the indicator applet and the
applet used to switch between open windows using buttons (in german
called 'Fensterwähler'). I *don't* see those corruptions when I open the
context menus of the menu bar and the netspeed applet.

https://launchpadlibrarian.net/70632558/screenshot_stefan-nagy_02.png
shows a symptom which appears after some time (an hour or more) and
tends to get worse i.e. one Gnome panel part after another is affected.

I'd really appreciate any help with this, please tell me if I can
provide additional information.

Thanks – option RenderAccel off seems to solve the problem, I tested
this for some hours now and didn't see any corruptions, swap-partition
usage looks normal… I'll let you know if I come across any corruptions
again.

Regarding the problem shown in my first screenshot it seems like it has
nothing to do with my graphics card – see

After testing this for 10 days now I have to say that I've seen some
minor corruptions (can't say more about that at this point). But that's
not the main problem… ram- and swap-usage aren't normal at all.

Normal ram-usage is now at 800 MB and this doesn't change so much over
time – but at some point the swap-usage increases without any obvious
reason. When it reaches 60% I usually restart gdm because the
performance sucks… Once or twice in the last 10 days the x-server
crashed – but I didn't observe the ram- and swap-usage… :-/

All in all it's possible to work with option RenderAccel turned off, but
the performance is quite bad at the beginning and gets even worse over
time… so this is no long-term solution.

the performance is much worse with option RenderAccel deactivated, but

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1133980] [NEW] unable to resume from suspend with radeon driver

2013-02-26 Thread Jeff Lane
Public bug reported:

While running 12.04.2 on an HP Pavilion dm1, the system is unable to
resume from suspend while running the radeon driver.

The system successfully suspends, but on resume, the system starts
waking and the screen does nothing but flash like a strobe light. The
system had to be power-cycled to restore usability.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1133978] Re: .....

2013-02-26 Thread Philip Wyett
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1103171] Re: Xorg freeze

2013-02-26 Thread Balazs
I have tested this with the following kernel versions installed:
- 3.2.0-32.51
- 3.5.0-18.29
- 3.5.0.25.31

And it only seems to work reliably with 3.2.0-32.51.

operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 154 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString)
