[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1164093] Re: FFe: new upstream release 9.1.1

2013-04-06 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hello,

@Timo Aaltonen: Is is maybe possible to include this tiny patch too?
vbo: fix crash found with shared display lists:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/commit/?id=c2665aacdd14beec9580246736c602e3ff04d7ae

It fixes crashes in Cairo-Dock and Avogadro UI and it's already in the
9.1 branch but not in the 9.1.1 version:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1084502] Re: fglrx doesn't work on 13.04 dev

2013-04-06 Thread Dean Smith
I have 3 monitors. 2 with 1280x1024, 1 with 2560x1600.
This worked in 12.04 with amdcccle, set as multidesktop setting 1 big
desktop, xenorate off, non-tearing on.

I upgraded to 13.04 beta 2. (all same hardware)
Now only one screen works with AMDCCCLE (reports 'hardware no supported' on all
3 screen). I tried every option offered by AMDCCLE.
Screens work with openGL. But my CPU is running high using openGL with no
GHardware acceleration - can't stay this way - please release a fix :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1162853] Re: trouble with free driver on AMD Radeon HD 7570M

2013-04-06 Thread Kalsan
So now I tried to install the Xorg driver via Sources, then I did apt-get
install --reinstall xserver-xorg-video-ati. This time, the login screen won't
even work (see attachments). I had to connect an external screen in order to
see something. The external screen is too large on its bottom.
Note that my version is 1:6.99.99~git20120913.8637f772-0ubuntu1, just like the
one out-of-the-box. However, it does work out-of-the-box and it does not work
with the updates installed.
Please help me out.

** Attachment added: This picture shows the login screen after --reinstall
treatment

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1165457] [NEW] screen corrupts - 13.04 daily build - unknown reason

2013-04-06 Thread Charles Ford
Public bug reported:

I was running USB tests when it first happened, and then unity crashed
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1161916)

Then it happened again without unity crashing, and then again (unless
it's all releated).

I don't have a working camera at this time, but the screen turned into a
series of horizontal lines, that would scroll up and down with the arrow
keys (I'm assuming it was the webpage I was on) but wouldn't scroll with
the mouse. The mouse pointer looked the same.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1161371] Re: X server sometimes fails to start on MacBook Air 5, 2: no screens found

2013-04-06 Thread Adam Dingle
OK - I installed linux-
image-3.9.0-994-generic_3.9.0-994.201304060409_amd64 and rebooted. On
my first boot I saw a blank screen on VT7, and when I switched to VT1
and logged in I saw that X and plymouthd had just crashed as evidenced
by files in /var/crash. The X log, however, included no error (EE)
lines such as 'no devices found' or 'no screens found'. The second boot
was OK. Let me know if you'd me to repeat this state and collect any
information in particular (e.g. apport-collect, /var/crash files, Unity
logs).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1165482] [NEW] unable to change screen resolution on HP G62 notebook with Intel i915 drivers

2013-04-06 Thread Carla Sella
Public bug reported:

I have a HP G62 laptop with Raring Final Beta installed.
This is my hardware:
http://wiki.ubuntu-it.org/CarlaSella/HP%20G62%20Notebook%20PC

When I try to change my screen resolution from 1366x768 to 1024x768 or
800x600 I get a messed up desktop and cannot read what's on it, have to
wait for the resolution to automatically go back to 1366x768.

I am attaching a screenshot of my desktop.

2013-04-06 Thread Chris Wilson
If you could double check the kernel you tested had the patch, that
would be fantastic. And you can install drm-intel-nightly from
ppa:mainline to confirm the bug is fixed somewhere between 3.8 and now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1157678] Re: unplugging an external monitor from laptop results in corrupted screen. Logging out fixes it.

2013-04-06 Thread Steve Langasek
Chris, I have no way to double-check that the kernel I tested had the
patch, I only have the binary build that Chris Arges posted so I have to
take his word for it.

I can certainly give the drm-intel-nightly kernel a try. Can you
confirm that http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-
nightly/ is the kernel you mean?

This is relatively common on laptops, where thermal management is

Thank you! :)

But now, should we disable this feature on Precise? and Quantal too
because I think the same drivers (intel/mesa) are used on Precise and

2013-04-06 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hold on, is there going to be a fix for 12.04?

I guess the best thing to do is to fix this bug in video drivers but I'm not
sure that it will be possible.
But there is a workaround (as said fabounet on our forum: )

by the way, a workaround is already possible: in the option 'How to draw
minimised windows', select 'Make the icon transparent' instead of 'Show a
window's thumbnail' (advanced configuration, section 'Taskbar')
(you probably need to restart your session)

I'm also quite keen to get rid of all the development stuff I had to install
 in order to build cairo-dock.
You can simply relaunch the script (in /opt/cairo-dock_bzr) and select the
third option ;)

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Cairo-dock-team] [Bug 1127281] Re: Artifacts when scrolling

2013-04-06 Thread Fabounet
Dmitry, could you please confirm that, under the 12.04, if you disable the
windows thumbnail option of the dock (in advanced configuration -
'Taskbar' section - how to display minimized windows), the visual bug is
not present (you might have to close the windows, possibly close the
session) ?

If so, then we don't have to do anything, because it would break this
option, and it's only affecting a few graphic cards.

Yes but I think there is another problem: by default, this 'windows
thumbnail' feature is enabled and it's hard to find this workaround (the
user needs to read this bug report or disables this feature in the
advanced mode of the config panel).

Moreover this bug is really annoying and this feature no longer worked
with previous versions of the dock and recent WMs. (and WMs like Compiz
have maybe removed the used of this function due to this kind of bug)

Solving a bug with another bug is not an option.
This function works properly with most drivers, and can be disabled (which
is an acceptable workaround, we'll write it on our wiki).
(and this function is used in GTK, chromium, Qt, etc, so there is likely to
be no major problem with it, excepted with a few drivers that keep
improving).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1127281] Re: Artifacts when scrolling

2013-04-06 Thread Matthieu Baerts
and this function is used in GTK, chromium, Qt, etc, so there is likely to
be no major problem with it, excepted with a few drivers that keep
 improving

Yes but the dock uses it for other windows. It's maybe not a common way
to use this function and we can maybe find this bug with other apps
which are already using it.

I see this bug on other computers and this is very annoying (e.g. hard
to use correctly Nautilus and Gedit with a lot of files/lines). And this
feature is a tiny feature (personally, I never minimise my windows
thanks to the use of 4, 6 or more viewports/desktops)

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Cairo-dock-team] [Bug 1127281] Re: Artifacts when scrolling

2013-04-06 Thread Fabounet
You can use this function for any window, you only passes the X id.
And removing an option just because it doesn't work for a few users is not
a good idea, especially since we now know that it can easily be worked
around. There's nothing wrong with the code as far as we can tell, it works
great for most users.
The problem lies in the drivers, so the only correct way to fix it is to
install the latest version of the drivers.
