Both X and lightdm are reporting a normal shutdown. Can you please
attach ~/.xsession-errors and see if you can find a log file for unity?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1069064]

2013-04-20 Thread Sndirsch-u
I don't know, which resolution your panel needs. It might be possible to
chose the right framebuffer mode. Try this

# hwinfo --framebuffer

Use the appropriate mode hexnumber (16bit mode recommended) as vga boot
parameter.

Example:
  Mode 0x0317: 1024x768 (+2048), 16 bits

-- vga=0x317

To be honest:
It's unlikely this ever been fixed. Nobody is still working on the sis driver
upstream, the SiS company is no longer active in this area, and the driver is no
longer building against the latest Xserver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1158934] Re: HP ProBook 6570b using acpi_video0 for backlight rather than intel_backlight

2013-04-20 Thread Chris Wilson
As a reminder acpi_video should always be a more appropriate controller
than intel_backlight. That it appears not to be is either a bug in the
acpi firmware or the acpi driver for your system.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1169333] Re: Screen resolution too low and missing launcher when connected to HDTV via HDMI

2013-04-20 Thread Christopher
Additional information. On both Quantal and Raring, the output on the
HDTV is about 5% larger than the laptop display. I can just get to the
lower half of the panel and about half the launcher.

Watching streaming videos is a bit hard as a result as some controls are
barely visible.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1170995] [NEW] Last Known Good Configuration

Public bug reported:

When installing drivers, particularly graphics drivers, new users
commonly find themselves at a black screen with no idea of how to back
out their updates. It would be nice if Ubuntu offered a fallback option
at grub that booted to a GUI, loading the last drivers that were
successfully used before the last manual logout.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 875195] Re: Screen is very dim after turning on Laptop

2013-04-20 Thread Kumbarov
I have an ASUS UL30A laptop with Intel® GMA X4500MHD graphics card and I
have had this problem ever since I started using Ubuntu (10.04). Now I
run 12.04 and the problem persists. I have tried everything but nothing
works except going to Brightness and Lock, decreasing Brightness to
the minimum and then increasing it again. I have to do this everytime I
log in or after unlocking the screen.

By the way I don't have Dim screen to save power checked, Turn screen
off when inactive for is set to Never and Lock is OFF but never
the less the screen dims and locks. So neither of the options on the
Brightness and Lock works for me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1171005] Re: glxgears gives Xlib extension missing NV-GLX on Intel video card

2013-04-20 Thread Robert Hooker
Why did you install nvidia drivers then? Used to have an nvidia card in
there? Remove that and it'll work properly, its working as intended
otherwise unfortunately because the proprietary drivers override the
open source stuff.

I believe that when I installed python-pyopencl it installed a bunch of
Nvidia stuff.

OpenCL shouldn't, in theory, depend on any particular graphics brand nor
should it break your X windows when you install it. IMHO

I should note I was able to fix this by removing a bunch of nvidia stuff
(dpkg --list | grep nv ) and then reinstalling xorg-xserver stuff

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1171061] [NEW] Icons not displayed correctly on desktop and in browser with color corruption over terminal.

Public bug reported:

1) Xubuntu 13.04 daily image 20130420
Live with persistence testcase
Dell Dimension 4550 with Nvidia Geforce4 MX420 graphics card
2) I assume it is xorg related but I also had problem with icons display issue
in virtualbox bug#1171018.
3) Ubuntu 10.04 is installed on this computer with no grahical issue like this.
I assume there is the possibilty that this graphics card is no longer supported
in Linux Kernel 3.8.0-19. I expected to have graphical issues as with xubuntu
11.10 and 12.04.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1058040] Re: fglrx-installer not working with AMD Radeon/Mobility Radeon HD 2000-4000 cards in Quantal

2013-04-20 Thread madbiologist
The other option for people on Quantal is to upgrade to Raring.
There's still no fglrx, but the open source radeon driver has improved
a *lot*.

Yes, the Linux 3.6 kernel finally enabled Radeon PCI Express 2.0 support by
default and the Linux 3.8 kernel introduces a-synchronous DMA support.
