[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1175705] Re: Xorg freeze

2013-05-04 Thread ar
Solution: Remove /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Problem cause: Upgrading from older Ubuntu versions leaves the fglrx driver
installed in xorg.conf.
In ubuntu 13.04 this gives problems. Do not know why and how.

Installing the vesa driver is not a solution.

Tip for the developers: Remove xorg.conf during installation if fglrx
fails to load.

Bug can be closed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1176103] Re: Suspend mode doesn't work

2013-05-04 Thread Kom-Si
If you mean kernel 3.8.0-18 the answer is no. 3.8.0-19 is the only
kernel I have installed. Yesterday it got updated through Software
Updater, although the version did not change. Right after that I started
experiencing problems with suspend. However later that day (after
reading some reports on similar problems with suspend) I replaced NVIDIA
proprietary driver 310 with 313. Miraculously suspend got fixed, now
it's working again as it should.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1175705] Re: Xorg freeze

2013-05-04 Thread ar
This bug happened again without a xorg.conf file.

And on a second thinkpad with an intel driver it happened as well. No
xorg.file present.

On both machines starting is sometimes fine and sometimes hangs.

And a third machine with the closed Nvidea driver I see no problems.

So, it is related to open source drivers one way or another and is not
driver specific.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1176239] [NEW] Add SMSC x.org drivers for USB3 display adapters

2013-05-04 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

There are some USB3 docking stations or USB3 to HDMI (or alike) adapters
based on UFX7000 chipset by SMSC -
http://www.smsc.com/Technologies/ViewSpan/UFX7000/Download

I have one adapter branded by Gembird. Compared to DisplayLink - there are
drivers and it even can work on Linux (DisplayLink drivers exist only for older
USB2 chipsets). There are some problems.
- The Xorg driver is available only on SMSC website
- you won'tdownload it untill they let you in, and to do that you have to give
a lot of valid company data and hope they will accept it
- their packages are dated from 2011 so may become incompatible with modern
systems

The release notes mention Ubuntu LTS 10.04 and Centos/RHEL 6 as tested and
supported. You get RPMs and DEBs:
xf86-video-smsc_1.0.2.1-20111206_amd64.deb
xf86-video-smsc_1.0.2.1-20111206_i386.deb
viewspan_1.0.2.1-1_amd64.deb
viewspan_1.0.2.1-1_i386.deb

I managed it to work from LTS LiveCD. On my current 13.04 desktop xrandr
prevents it from working (release notes point out that their viewspan is
incompatible with it) even when having Xinerama config in xorg.conf (the
same thing worked from the LiveCD that does not have xrandr).

So it would be nice if big Ubuntu would try to talk to them about making
their drivers more available and more friendly with modern systems (and
XRandr for plug and play without xorg.conf hacking).

andvaranaut, thatk you for this workaround! I've been searching for
quite some time for a solution to this problem. (I also posted your
solution to the big thread devoted to muxless amd systems,

of course with proper attribution)

Many thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068404] Re: Low graphics mode in muxless hybrid ATI/Intel GPU systems after fglrx upgrade

2013-05-04 Thread christopher pijarski
Hello, I am just writing to say that there is also a workaround for raring.
I've been searching for this for some time so I thought that maybe this will
help somebody in a similar situation: the lastest intel driver apparently
causes trouble so reverting to the driver from the quantal repos makes the 13.4
driver work beautifully!
Solution thanks to https://launchpad.net/~andvaranaut from his bugreport
#1174278

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 927288] Re: Xorg crash with qt4 apps using nvidia drivers

2013-05-04 Thread James Avery
This started affecting me on 12.10 (no emacs, no skype, no Mathematica,
etc = impossible to use Ubuntu for work), had to revert to 12.04, but
had hoped the issue had been fixed for 13.04. It hasn't.

Hussam's hack fixed the problem (but why does it work?), and QT programs
no longer crash X. But why has this not been fixed for over a year? This
is a serious bug that renders Ubuntu completely unusable for many people
with NVIDIA graphics cards, and not everyone will be able to find the
solution, which must be temporary anyway (commenting out the font pipe
in xorg.conf is not really a solution).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1155327] Re: skype crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc@plt()

2013-05-04 Thread mtvoid
@gunnarhj: Maybe not directly an Ubuntu issue, but certainly an issue
with Skype. I'm curious if this bug affects other distributions too
(with Nvidia drivers, or libglib 2.37.0).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1176423] [NEW] Changing the screen resolution, and lost its brightness

2013-05-04 Thread ADR
Public bug reported:

Sometimes when after opening screen (laptop) maximum extension is 1024
by 768 and the laptop freezes for a few minutes.

Sometimes, it's just possible with naskani keys (Super Key and
control, but think of others as well).

Also, when connected to the laptop screen Cheryokha second HDMI (in my
case the TV) goes to the main screen brightness (not just reduced to a
minimum, and completely disappears) at an image and displays.

It all started after upgrading from 12.10 to 13.04.

Laptop: HP G62-813SL

I need to collect some information (logs, or a list of devices) on the laptop
or it's already been done automatically?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1174278] Re: REGRESSION: failed to allocate video resources with latest fglrx

2013-05-04 Thread JG
andvaranaut,
I ended up just installing the old intel server libudev0 from quantal's
repositories, and my installation is now fully functional!
Although after installing fglrx I got a bug similar to the one originally
posted in #1068404, on a guest account the bug was gone, so I wholesale deleted
my home directories .compiz, .cache and .config (wasn't sure what was the
problem) and everything works.

Thanks!
