[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1173217] Re: Screen edges are in the middle of the screen! AMD Radeon HD7570M
I get screen corruption and general problems as well. Tried both free and proprietary drivers, 12.04.2 and 13.04. The nasty workaround for me is to connect an external HDMI monitor, which helps /fix/ the problem. When Ubuntu tries to clone the laptop screen, this ends up fixing the screen corruption, when using the fglrx driver (For both the HDMI display and the laptop screen). I can then disconnet the HDMI display and the laptop screen continues to work well. When I use the radeon (free) driver, the HDMI display works find, however the laptop screen shows artifacts (either 'split' screen or flickering). Since both the free and proprietary drivers exhibit similar behaviour, it does look like a common kernel issue. Will try newer kernels. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1173217 Title: Screen edges are in the middle of the screen! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1142733] Re: Nvidia: unknown chipset
Thanks for the trace, it helped a bit for testing. I now have some hardware to test with. The fix is a bit more involved it seems. The nvd7 I have has no display engine, so it requires some fixes in the X driver and the kernel to work at all. It now works without acceleration for me, but without acceleration it's completely useless. I'll try to get the 3d engine working. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1142733 Title: Nvidia: unknown chipset To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/1142733/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1186800] Re: Video goes blank and system hangs (using an old kernel fix it)
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ubuntu ** Description changed: I'm on a very old Dell C400 P3 866 with 768mb ram which still works rock solid. I've upgraded this system from Lubuntu 12.10 to 13.04 but with every kernel above V3.6.11 (took from mainline ubuntu) system hangs randomly. I tried to install Intel video drivers from https://01.org/linuxgraphics/ (Intel(R) Linux* Graphics Installer version 1.0.1 for Ubuntu* 13.04 (32-bit)) but this did not solve the problem. I'm not sure if is driver or kernel related since on the last release change the drivers curiously works using kernel V3.9 but before revert to this release I would like to help to find a solution. uname -r 3.8.0-23-generic lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 13.04 Release: 13.04 apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-intel xserver-xorg-video-intel: Installed: 2:2.21.6-0ubuntu4 Candidate: 2:2.21.6-0ubuntu4 Version table: *** 2:2.21.6-0ubuntu4 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ raring/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status lspci -k 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82830M/MG Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 04) Subsystem: Dell Device 00c8 Kernel driver in use: i915 Kernel modules: intelfb, i915 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation 82830M/MG Integrated Graphics Controller Subsystem: Dell Device 00c8 Kernel modules: i915 hwinfo --gfxcard hal.1: read hal dataprocess 2789: arguments to dbus_move_error() were incorrect, assertion (dest) == NULL || !dbus_error_is_set ((dest)) failed in file ../../dbus/dbus-errors.c line 282. Hi Chris, The information collected are merged after an hang with kernel V3.8.0-23-generic and a forced reboot (pressing power button). Again, my system is stable with kernel V3.6.11, the Issue starts with kernel V3.7.0+. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1187009] [NEW] Apps like Spotify/Nevernote crash lightdm ending my session abruptly
You have been subscribed to a public bug: So launching apps like Spotify/Nevernote kills my session and restarts to the Ubuntu login screen. The whole system doesn't restart, just lightdm. This also happens with for example Ubuntu One login through settings menu when I click sign in. It works until I click sign in then it crashes to Ubuntu login screen. I'm not sure what extra details I can provide for this kind of a crash as the behavior seems quite random. I have the proprietary Nvidia drivers installed. Ubuntu 64bit Nvidia GeForce 320M/integrated/SSE2 - Driver: nvidia-313-updates Macbook 7,1 I've checked a bunch of log files in /var/log but can't see anything that might give a clue. Everything seems to work fine that does work. For example, I can play TF2 in Steam natively with no issues. I can run Spotify through WINE with no issues and I can run Netflix-Desktop with no issues. Opera/Chromium etc... all work fine. I can run Android- Studio with no issues so I'm not sure what causes the applications above to crash but it is quite a shock when launching an app and all of a sudden your left at your login screen if you had something important open. ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-313-updates (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Apps like Spotify/Nevernote crash lightdm ending my session abruptly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1187009 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-313-updates in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1186800] Re: Video goes blank and system hangs (using an old kernel fix it)
Nothing untoward stands out in the logs from the working setup. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1186800] Re: Video goes blank and system hangs (using an old kernel fix it)
Understood. Well for now the unique workaround I found is to block the grub entry on V3.6.11 on startup so the system works. It's not my primary machine then I would like to help you (or with the maintainer of the kernel in this case) to do a bisection. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1187032] [NEW] occasionally recovery required on readonly filesystem

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1186786] Re: nvidia-173 kernel module fails to build on kernels = 3.10.x [error: implicit declaration of function ‘create_proc_entry’]
Just some questions. Do we need to wait for nvidia? Is it possible to tell how long they may take? Got today time to look into the failed build log. To me (programming experience, but not in linux kernel) it looks like proc_fs.h changed, create_proc_entry removed. Guess being replaced by something else (can only guess which one, some with suitable parameters). Is it possible to change nv.c to make it compile and link? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1181355] Re: R300 (RS480): Intermittent flickering corruption top half of display (VGA, 1080p)
Reviewing state and this bug after wondering why the system wasn't flickering after a reboot, I am reminded that entering and leaving monitor sleep seems to be prerequisite to reproducing the issue. So every boot is fine until the monitor goes to sleep, and disabling it would be a workaround. ** Description changed: + [Edit: Issue narrowed down to Something Bad Happening when the display + goes to sleep. See wordy observations on how to reproduce and/or work- + around in comments ~#4-#7 in Launchpad.] + Any suggestions where to start welcome: Compaq SR1611NX desktop, Radeon Xpress 200 RS480 (R300) graphics. HP LV2311 LCD connected via VGA because that's the only output on this hardware. The VGA output used to be a little less than perfectly stable with older X.org (versions shipped from Ubuntu 9.x to 10.x). Unknown improvements since then have made the overall display much more stable - no more shifty horizontal flicker. In tradeoff, now the top half of the display occasionally flashes distractingly for fractions of a second (single frames?) with memory cruft as you might expect to see during boot or graphics init - generally offset large checkerboard-esque blocks of black and color with no obvious relation to what's on the display. This would seem to suggest it's an actual GPU/driver issue rather than a glitch on the VGA/monitor end of things. No idea how to trigger or reproduce other than that it will generally occur at least once within each 15 minutes or so of use. Expanding and retracting the dash (very slowly due to the current regression - takes about 5+ seconds to fade in and dismiss) will sometimes set it off, however. - - Recommendation for screen-recording software to see if it turns up in software short of pointing an actual camera at the screen? + Recommendation for screen-recording software to see if it turns up in + software short of pointing an actual camera at the screen? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1181355] Re: R300 (RS480): Intermittent flickering corruption top half of display (VGA, 1080p)
Per multiple re-edits just now, whups, starting LibreOffice with a few documents open from autorecovery and maximizing a window has started it up without the monitor having gone to sleep since booting. Will try to pay attention and report if this puzzler is connected to Libre somehow - I'm never not running it and all workarounds described have probably been discovered/tested with it running and never killed or restarted. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1181355 Title: R300 (RS480): Intermittent flickering corruption top half of display (VGA, 1080p) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/1181355/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1181355] Re: R300 (RS480): Intermittent flickering corruption top half of display (VGA, 1080p)
Testing suggesting it's not very application-dependent: 1. With Libre started and 'flickering' occurring, kill -9 it and make sure it's dead; flickering persists while using Firefox. 2. From that state, conduct 'change mode and revert' workaround: flickering stops and does not recur after restarting Libre (prior to letting display sleep happen at least). [Also noting I am likely to give up on this and drop a Radeon 6450 card in as throwing different hardware at the problem is going to be cheaper than the time-cost. Still interested in seeing it resolved to the extent that it's regressive and also always farcical when the hardware requirements for word processing outside of vi arbitrarily go up.] -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1181355 Title: R300 (RS480): Intermittent flickering corruption top half of display (VGA, 1080p) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/1181355/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1187149] [NEW] Sometimes when computer is suspended (this happens in both Raring Ringtail and Quantal Quetzal) by closing laptop lid, does not accept password
Public bug reported: Sometimes (more often in Raring) when I close my laptop and Ubuntu automatically suspends, when I open my laptop again and enter my password (possibly a coincidence that when I slide my finger over the fingerprint reader it does not acknowledge it) it just says Checking... and displays it for a very long time, and requires a force restart.
