[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 747717] Re: 11.04 - opening too many windows causes new windows to render blank white

2013-06-05 Thread Olivier Debon
Issue popped again for some settings. I have nvidia-310 (exp) installed
everything is ok if you have default compiz settings. But I must have changed
something that made the issue back again. I'll try to figure out which compiz
setting reproduces the issue.

SNB seems unaffected, it's just ivy bridge with the slowness issue. I
can reproduce it on my snb too. Can we keep the package in -proposed for
a bit longer, to get better test coverage for the other hardware?

These are in fact raring upgrades on 32-bit, so this problem is not
restricted to running on 64-bit architecture.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 933289] Re: bad flickering with Radeon drivers in 12.04 Precise

2013-06-05 Thread Michael Murphy
This flicker is far worse on GCN hardware (Radeon HD 7xxx). The instant
you boot into Ubuntu with the open source radeon drivers, there is
massive amounts of black boxes flickering all over the screen. Even with
xorg-edgers/ppa like above, it does not solve the issue. The only driver
GCN hardware is functional on is fglrx.

FYI you can just update the compiz-plugins-default package from
http://is.gd/fsl3P0 to get this fixed for your radeon card.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 408903] Re: Does not handle microphone mute button (KEY_MICMUTE)

2013-06-05 Thread James M. Leddy
** Description changed:

- Ubuntu 9.04
+ [Impact]
+ * People buying thinkpad hardware are not able to use a mic mute key, that
comes with
+their machine
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Press mic mute key
+ * Observe that nothing happens
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * Very low. This is very isolated code. All it does is add functionality. In
fact there
+are very few deletions in the diffs.
+
+ * There is an existing acpi solution, that's already been mentioned in this
bug. I'm
+not sure how these users would be affected once the upgrade hits, but it
was never
+released as an official fix.
+
+ [Original Report]

Pressing the new microphone mute button does not do anything. It should
toggle the mute on the current capture device and toggle an led that is
  part of the button.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 408903] Re: Does not handle microphone mute button (KEY_MICMUTE)

2013-06-05 Thread James M. Leddy
Ideally, we get this SRUed to Precise. I've filled out the SRU template.
It's just a bit tricky because functionality cross cuts a lot of
packages. I've added branches for all of the packages that require code
changes. It works something like this:

1) x11-proto gets updated with a new #define
2) install x11proto-core-dev on the build server
3) rebuild libx11
4) update the remaining linked packages: udev, gnome-settings-daemon,
xkeyboard-config

I've subbed sponsors for some guidance and to get x11-proto updated.
Alternately if this is out of scope we can close this bug for precise.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1187861] Re: je ne sais pas

2013-06-05 Thread Daniel Letzeisen
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. We have instructions on
debugging some X.org problems at: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Debugging

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

It would also be hopful if you could run the command:
apport-collect 1187861

Thanks!

2013-06-05 Thread C de-Avillez
Closing INVALID. If the OP actually has an issue, s/he should actually
describe it better than je ne sais pas (I do not know). I suggest
the OP to, if needed, open a new bug with real data.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1176647] Re: Random Xorg freezes occuring hours after login

2013-06-05 Thread Leon Winter
For some other reason I switched my window manager to dwm and can now
almost reliably reproduce the failure by simply starting a video in
mplayer and wait for approx. 5 seconds. Before with gnome/metacity I
could sometimes watch entire movies of multiple hours. Sometimes it
would crash in between but sometimes not. However with dwm it crashes
all the time and almost immediately.

Since even with sync I could not see a file (error_state) being written
I finally got around to SSH into my maschine and observe the behaviour
which is worse than expected. At the time the crash happens my SSH shell
is also unreponsive any more which strongly hints that not only my
X/display subsystem is broken but rather the whole kernel. Due to this I
am unable to produce the error_state as the maschine is not responding
to any commands (either 'sleep X ' or SSH) as it is ~halted already.

This issue is really annoying and it can be assumed to be related to
video playback of some kind as this is the only way i can reproduce it
now.

By the way I upgraded to kernel 3.8.0-23-generic in the meantime.

How are you playing the video? If you are using mplayer, can you try the
various backends to see if any are more susceptible?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378823] [NEW] certain windows have their contents transparent

2013-06-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I've had this problem before in intrepid, but it dissapears and returns
at will. Now it's back.

The symptoms are these: in virtualbox or smplayer, the contents are
transparent in the window. smplayer plays the video but nothing is
visible because its transparent. In virtualbox only certain things are
transparent, for example during the BIOS black background when booting a
machine is transparent (but not the text) or certain applications colors
(see screenshot). When compiz is turned off, contents inside virtualbox
shows. However, the video in smplayer is blank instead (this is with xv
output module). I tried setting it to GL2, then the video output would
work, but the starting screen is as transparent as with xv.This is with
nvidia version 185.18.04, but occured with other versions of the nvidia
driver, and Xserver 1.6.0

I tried a restart, and the problem problem is gone for now - windows
contents in virtualbox and smplayer are showing normally now. Any
suggestions to logs i could look into to get clues on this problem?

There is a workaround for this bug, before launching an application enter this
command:

export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1

And execute your application. You can also make a script which would
look something like this:

#!/bin/bash
export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1
exec /usr/bin/smplayer.bin $@

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 932229] [NEW] Unity drag causes video repaint problem.

2013-06-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I am on a Mac Book Pro with an external monitor attached as well.
monitor 0 is the laptop LCD and monitor 1 is the external display.
monitor 0 is 1440x900 and monitor 1 is 1920x1200. Everything was
working with no changes on my end. The bug seems to have been
introduced in the last few days. I am sorry I dont know what was
updated to cause the bug.

When I move an icon in nautilus, thunderbird, firefox, etc. Basically
anything that allows a drag state on my monitor 0 (laptop) screen
moves up. The bottom of the monitor shows black and the top shows the
bottom of the old window. (ie the entire desktop moves up about 450px).

I have deleted the monitor.xml and removed and re-installed the nvidia
173 drivers to no effect. I can minimize the effect by enabling Force
full screen redraws (buuffer swap) on repaint in Work Arounds in
CCSM.

gnome classic and unity 2d work fine. My thoughts are that either CCSM,
Nvidia, or a unity update has caused this.

I am not a linux pro, so please feel free to instruct me on how to
attach whatever info you need.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1183269] Re: new upstream release 9.1.3

2013-06-05 Thread Edward Donovan
I edited the original report, above, removing the word 'bug' before all
the upstream bug numbers. Launchpad had the wrong idea, linking them
all to the wrong local bugs. It just makes for confusion, I think.
Anyway, I'll try to report back later, on how this works on my Ivy
Bridge system. Thanks.

** Description changed:

- [Impact]
- * Improves support for richland by adding new pci ids.
- * Closest the following upstream bugs in 9.1.3:
- Bug 39251 - Second Life viewers from release 2.7.4.235167 to the last
3.4.0.264911 crash on start.
